a speed another day of and time families being code and that's where the air strikes on gaza. yes, elizabeth, in fact the it's a novel that flo today where the is very many trees is up screening expenditure defensive on different areas across the besieged enclave now starting from the middle over night. so if the gaza strip, where the body forces have been focusing on the course of the past few days, they have been leveling to the ground. dozens of residential houses that are completely full of these activities and also city dwellers today. for example, one of the lakes protection, kill 2 palestinians. the most i rocked refugee camp off to their house, being completely reduced to the russell. i'm at on going to the bottom. it says well a for a bridge refuge account. now these areas and the initial days of the requested it to be a back to so these were the minutes we have with the crow from the outskirts of the, of the cities,
9:06 pm
which have become right now. see itself for the factories on people who do not have a clue show such them. now one news especially who have been slipping from russell in the past few weeks in light of the potential military. encouraging of the city. the same time russell had been attacked in the past hour where that is what he meant it to drone, how talking to them, agriculture, 11 boxes adjacent to make ship shelters were a number of palestinians after report it's ended up being transported to a much are also to receive medical treatments, elizabeth, we have seen so many attacks on agricultural land over the past few months, having to be potted. what are the conditions and java now is nothing you all who continues with is threats of sending ground troops and yes, in fact, palestinians see that any potential military installation of operations and roof means that there will be a fleet catastrophe. cuban to turn in consequences,
9:07 pm
including mass casualties, amongst the billions. also, it will lead to a extensive population displacement alongside with the collapse of the existing humanitarian respond square roof. of course, think i've come up with some interest in both the to now was to a completely functional and they are the main to guides for the flow of the humanitarian access to the territory. with the potential military inclusion for rough or civilians will be completely fixed it by the implications of repercussions of that monitoring cogent. and we have been hearing that is what the prime minister benjamin mr. neal has, has been spacing mosley with his ministry cabinets, and also to is very media outlets that military encourage and for rough uh will be carried out within just to myself time. and he will also propose a detailed plan for evacuating civilians are from this very densely populated area on what to go. it's still not until now it's

a known as the it's very minute treat to now does not find you solution. for the majority of the back to reason, odette 2 minutes highly dismantled the military infrastructure of how much movement as they have been claiming since october the 7th product. thank you very much for that. that is thought of who was there with the latest live from gaza. the german chancellor. all that shows as one does rarely prime minister benjamin netanyahu against his plans for ground defensive and offer the 2 latest measure west jerusalem shells urged nothing yahoo to protect civilians from gaza and highlights of the need for humanitarian aid. he said the world cannot stand bias, palestinians risk salvation. the longer the war last, the higher the number of civilian casualties rises. the more desperate the situation of the paper guides have become. the more this backs the question, no matter how important the goals kind of justifies,
9:09 pm
that's totally be high costs or are there other ways to achieve? you'll go take the ground to assess them safe and roughly the very to we logic is one consideration. but there is a few minutes telling logic as one house with more than one point. 5000000 people be protected where they go we've just had the i think, a very serious conversation, an important conversation among friends. you express your concern for the 2 things . one protecting civilians and 2nd provision of the humanitarian it. and i explained that these are concerns as well because we agree with both goals. meanwhile, and you commission president s live on the line echoed show for sentiments during a visit to kyra. as
9:10 pm
the . ready the a miss schedule correspondence from the sun who she's joining us live from occupied east jerusalem. so home, the, what spain, if any honest response to these european needs, it seems he's holding for these really prime minister has been speaking pretty much all day in this press conference to his cabinet and also giving interviews to american media, talking about the international pressure that is on israel, but how it will not be a deterrence when it comes to achieving the 3 goals of the war. and that's in yahoo has reiterated that no matter what,
9:11 pm
no matter what kind of circumstances israel finds itself in the war, is going to continue. you have these comments from european leaders like are still a longer lion and as well as olaf schultz who been saying, but there is famine in gaza as well as the cost of human life has been far too high . but these really prime minister has been quite firm in deflecting that lame st. quote, him as, as the one using civilians as human shields, but not taking any responsibility for the nearly 32000 palestinians who have been killed. so in the face of all of this international pressure, the view is of some of israel's biggest allies like united states and germany are shifting a little bit while they reiterate that israel has the right to defend itself. they're saying that the cost has been too high for what time the war cabinet is meeting. now, what more can you tell us about that as well, there is descent from within netanyahu's own government. the war cabinet is meeting
9:12 pm
this evening is to discuss that mandate that will be given to negotiators once they head to del house to meet with mediators on talks on perhaps a pause in the fighting. that would see the release of some is really comped. it was a but we've been in espanol, whose own government you have for right ministers, like the smoke rich, who is speaking out in his really media this evening saying that the delegation shouldn't be going to go how that there shouldn't be a deal that military pressure in the form of an invasion into that box is the only way the captives are going to be released. and remember the missing yahoo himself has said that military pressure is the only way to bring back the captives as well . but in order to secure their release, nathaniel who does acknowledge that there could be a deal to bring them back. so this evening, that is what the main agenda item is going to be the mandate for those negotiators who are set to be in doha. sometime this week comes and thank you very much for that home. the son who is joining us with the latest live unoccupied,
9:13 pm
east jerusalem, and with as well as full time value because he's a professor of public policy at home. i've been calling for university. thank you. as always for your time, mr bar causing firstly a very strong statements from this level underlying and all actual as on the face of it, at least do you think that they put any pressure on nothing. yahoo, i doubt it. i mean, the state is significant given where they, where a few weeks ago, in fact, in november, both of them called origin rejected at the time the, the idea of facies fire. only recently, they showed some concern, but they still did not accept diagnoses for, for so for them to call for us as far as an improvement on the position of the day you and that as long as you, because of the division, the catastrophe has created within euro yeah, but still if you read carefully and the statements, there's to linking it to a cease fire that is attached to the release of the, of the couches. uh huh. so it's not just use for based on the humanitarian needs or
9:14 pm
to actually relieve this. i mean that the policy is, are a been exposed to at the moment, but they say that it is the don't they, they say for the release of captives. but also because the palestinians need humanitarian aid. you say that the position has changed significantly since november. why do you think that is what i think is because of the split that has created within the u. s. some countries like spain, breast, a belgium, and others. if taking a very strong pro humanitarian style and within the u circles, german, he found himself increasingly alone, maybe alongside hungry countries that they do not want usually to be associated with in terms of foreign policy affairs. and i, i think that's the very important role in them now coming out with these kind of positions. okay. but that we'd like to see it fairly on the humanitarian basis. not yet, because it seems as if it's part of a game to pressure the size to reach tracy's fire. and in particular,
9:15 pm
i think ok from us few days ago. but for the proposition that has not yet been studied by the israelis. yeah. and we know that that is going to be discussed and the license around deceased fund negotiations that are going to be held here in doha, from monday, the head of his ready intelligence most side will be traveling here. but how do these 2 sides find middle ground when israel will not agree to a permanency is fine and ha, says nothing less than a permanent sci fi will do. it would be very difficult for them to find a middle ground, if based on what the evidence they've seen from what influence the world hasn't is right. it's very difficult for him, us to accept any deal at the moment, short of its full term and you know, that they've already declared. and the, the way we see the united states with all his power, unable to push days, right, needs to open the borders is really ridiculous. it's it. and it tells the other thing is that you can try to trust that the u. s. will come on pressure is right to
9:16 pm
do anything of a mind you live or a to stay solution or the return of refugees or dismantled those set to mentions on the create. do not have control over there is a decision making. you say they are unable to, but again, they are unable to or are they on willing to because they have great leverage with the as well they have if they want to use, we would like to think that they're not being able to do it with like we would hate to things as an ice age is 100 percent, compress it, and is behind the applied foot as i was doing. and in gaza, i think there's a lot of interest for the us in the middle east and my new friends in the middle east would like to think that they're trying their best. but they're not able to to make it happen. but the state really, anyone to think in the middle east who now believes that the us as trying it's best to stop what's happening in gaza. i think some of us who are hopefully fast we well we think they're doing the best given the constrains they have back home. i mean, the whole issue is now in tangled within their elections. and the is agent. i'll be
9:17 pm
back in washington. but the, from the statements that a blinking has put out a few days ago. and by doing this to try, it does sound as if they are trying their best to put the pressure on these varies . they've tried to threaten that then yahoo! and directly that has a partnership may not continue too long. that may be a need for election. someone else can take over. but the, the challenge always remains the way the us and by long as the west speaks to is and has always been requesting them kindly to do things. when it comes to the genocide, the tour with this thing in the famine. this should not be requested just should be imposed by the united nations security council resolution. yeah. as would have been the case, anybody in the world and we have had some of that experience as recently in the ukraine where the past decisions very, very quickly. just about a caught thank you very much for your time. that is so talking about a cup of home,
9:18 pm
i've been cliche university in the head of the u. n. agency for palestinian refugees felipe plaza day. and he has cooled as well as invasion of gaza, of woe on children and the future. more than 13000 palestinian children have been killed by his riley forces and gaza. at least $23.00 children have died from severe hunger and d hydration the cost as well as into long enough age into this trip. many have been permanently disabled. unicef estimates that $1000.00 children have legs amputated and the 1st 2 months of all alone. and there of course counting extremes, psychological trauma, fundable, and was says more than 1000000 children need mental health support. and we are joined now by steve, so to speak. his president and founder of his pa, this time, is the humanitarian, non profit organization which helps bring hundreds of injured and ill children to the united states from gaza for free can. he's joining us live from washington dc. thank you for your time. firstly,
9:19 pm
can you tell us about your organization's operations in gaza and just how they've been impacted by the whole as well or operations and gaza are addressing the urgent needs on the ground? they're obviously we're in a acute phase of survival for the palestinian people, particularly the children. so the basic necessities are absolutely required. at this time we're talking about food. for starving people were talking about shelter for those who had their homes destroyed, or talking about medical care and access to medical services which were at one time available, but no longer available on the ground. and gods are because of the collapse health system so that we're trying to address all of the urgent needs on the ground there in addition to the long term rebuilding of the lives of these children in gauze and which will take place after the dis, acute phase is over, but right now we're just trying to address the urgent needs, which so many aid organizations are going through and as we mentioned, the difficulty of doing this work to all of us face is having access to the
9:20 pm
warehouse literally is of trucks that are waiting to get in from egypt and we're also doing our work through services that are available are supplies that are available in the local market in egypt, which is obviously a huge challenge as well, excuse me and gaza. and therefore, i think all of us in. ready organizations are very frustrated by having the resources available to do this work, but not having the access and the availability, availability to the people who are in dire need of this mandatory need. and how again does your organization provide those services? do you have clinics yourself or do you work with already established centers or we have our own staff on the ground that are able to develop or to support direct food were running kitchens, for example, uh, in rough, i'm looking to open a kitchen in the north but in some instances, we are supporting the development of a new maternity department and a new pediatric neonatal intensive care unit. in rough up which will help alleviate some of the challenges with the lack of adequate services for the newborn babies
9:21 pm
and for women to give deliveries. they were also sponsoring medical emissions to come in the future to provide medical support, surgery and training, and to help alleviate some of the challenges at the local health services are exhausted. to provide locally to the population and has your organization being able to transport any children to the us for medical care since the wolf again. yeah, we currently have 5 children in the united states being treated. we have many, many more on their way in the next few weeks and months. unfortunately, it's just a drop in the bucket compared to the thousands and thousands of children who need specialized medical care. they cannot get in gaza, but it's uh, the, the, something for these children. we have 2 children who are in intensive care units in united states with burns. we have kids who are here for an amputation. we also have kids who have medical conditions that they were born with that are here for surgery that otherwise would be treated in gaza, but if left untreated would result in the death of these children. so we're
9:22 pm
actually an organization that's helping any child the need. most of them are trauma cases, as a result of bombings, but many of some of them are even kids with birth defects. and paul from providing medical care for children. what was the bigger goal that you were trying to achieve and guys over the past as he is but the bigger goal was to develop a health sector that was independent and could provide the kind of medical services that the guys, that people, particularly because the children would not have to leave their families and travel outside for we built the cancer department for children, which was bombed on november 5th and closed. we were building up a specialized services in a variety different areas that otherwise would not be developed by training doctors by bringing equipment, by developing infrastructure and by bringing volunteer teams and from all over the world where the leading organization and doing that until october 7th. so all of those efforts to develop a very um, let's say the specialized health system that was adequate in meeting the needs of
9:23 pm
the population in gaza. yeah, that's been put baxter, 40 years now. yeah, i was just calling to over. yeah, i mean, i was just calling to ask, you know, what the role has meant for that bigger goal, if your focus has had to change completely to just the immediate needs of, you know, tracing the wounded. yeah. yeah, i mean we, as i mentioned, we have to start all over again, and that's only when we are out of this acute phase in which every day people are being killed. and there's a lack of adequate emergency services, let alone this specialized care. there is no electron procedures being done now the $500.00 babies that are born with congenital heart disease every year and gaza are going on treated and are going to die. the kids were having cancer in gods and there's hundreds of them. so not evacuated to health services outside are going to continue to suffer from this disease. and in many cases died kids with other conditions, many of them, birth defects, and some of them acquired from living in
9:24 pm
a crowded centers where there is no sanitation. those kids are not getting medical care, and in some cases these kids are dying. so this is a huge, huge challenge for all age groups that are working in the health sector. and how do we step to continue depth? not only of children who are suffering from trauma that kids are suffering from disease from birth defects and other medical conditions which could be adequately treat it's that's kind of now because of the collapse health system and just last name is decides to be given the immense challenges that you've outlined and also how much you've invested in gaza and the children over the last 3 decades. what hopes do you have for this generation of god and children? now that depends on us. are we going to respond to this and show these children that were in it for the long term to rebuild their lives, to get them healthy, when possible, to give them the mental health support and therapy and assistance that they need to deal with the psychological trauma what they've experienced in the last a 161 days, we're going to be involved in giving them opportunities for having meaningful lives
9:25 pm
in the future where their independence and not waiting for and g o's, or non profits, or governments to come in and provide them the basic necessities to survive. that's up to us. it's up to the international community. that's what people, palestine is trying to establish now is a long term response where we can give these kids this generation, this genocide, generation opportunities for having meaningful lives. but we have to get through this acute phase in which they're just trying to survive. once we get to, the rebuilding phase will come in and try to have a long term impact in a positive way or the lives of this generation of cause. the children must as high as be back to you so much for your time. and joining us to tell us about the very important work that you were doing in gaza. that is steve. so speak of hill palestine live in washington dc. thank you. as well. meanwhile, so those children still in gaza, unable to leave a balanced and in music teacher as helping displays children. forget about they've done circumstances. even the phone,
9:26 pm
the phone out to michael apple reports from the sounds of it. it's just the music less of that could be taking place anywhere in the world. except it isn't . and it's not. tell us the new music teacher mohammed. oh, how boss has an ego audience here in central gaza at a center housing, displace, palestinians, even gifts and excited sums up and outcomes, the food among them many lumens per cent. it's one of our goals and the music centers to reach kids in the display centers all over the gaza strip. we want to entertain them either through music or to teach them something that gets to them now sells out of this out must be of war. smiles already these days. that music can do that. sometimes positivity can be contagious. being
9:27 pm
am made between india and the shop. when i have an activity i bring my 2 daughters with me to the display centers. we make activities to the children. the atmosphere is very nice and they count and wait for us to get here. whenever i come, they run towards me and asked me, why did i took so long for dina? the music lessons a suit. a welcome change from the sounds of alumnus and i came to learn how to sing and play music. i love to sing. i used to you bombing sounds and become scared. but now that i've started the music class, i can feel more comfortable. and my heart is called mohammed says he'll continue going to display some incentives, giving cause his children an opportunity to escape the reality just for a while. and that's something like level which is are

the to watching the news out with me, elizabeth put on them and don't have a mind to of on top stories the sounds. they have the most scenes of desperation in northern gaza, with palestinian scrambling to get hold of any age they can at least 27 how the students of already died of hunger and dehydration assignment takes home. germany's chances that has warned as well as the communist against has plans for ground, defensive and offer, and then your pin commission president has done the same thing does is face of simon at a full scale attack in the south would devastate the civilian population. that improvement is projected to win russia's presidential election. the polling stations now closed on about a quarter of the balance, counted the 1st result. and so he's taken 88 percent of the vote and then an action that was seen as a full gone conclusion. the 3rd and final day of hosting, so
9:36 pm
a silent protest stage across russia to meet them. evident, click reports, a silent queue on the final election day. this is one of the ways russians could demonstrate that discontent and not get arrested for it. these people have come to cost the pallets at the same time at the new, across the 10s of thousands of posting stations in $11.00 time zones, and a broad stalking will be jumped them a good. it's clear that the president will be elected without us. but at least we will show ourselves. i came personally to show that i disagree and to show that there are many of us. and there could you always be like, i guess i would like to expect change. i don't know if that will happen or not, but i believe my voice can make a difference. this action was endorsed by late opposition, lead to alex, 2nd of all the shortly before he died in an arctic colony. this protest campaign was going to change the outcome of the election. vladimir putin is overwhelmingly
9:37 pm
popular in russia. and if i want a continuation of the policy, as it is now in all country, that's why i've, i've just pull out president, president putin was running against 3 other candidates who never spoke out against him, or the war in ukraine. only results have revealed his expected victory fortune. let's see what was the rich vladimir putin, 87.97 percent of the votes of russia also held a selection in the occupied territories of ukraine and in crime near. that's despite the fighting that and shelling of both the territories and russia. anybody voting good participation that has the majority is something that to did. you can make sales to vote. and i know there are controversies of these points. these would be sold to the sound system in the future. process economy has

proven largely resilience despite the severe west and sanctions for the war in ukraine. and that's likely to help putin in the weeks and months ahead. with lot of my boots and securing another 6 years as president, that's little expectation that rushes domestic or foreign policies will change. between the in co, out to 0. will the version to place under the shadow will with you claim things. one person has been killed and 11 injured and ukrainian shouting on rushes belgrade region is the 2nd set of attacks on the city and as many days. well, she says it also shut down and military helicopter headed towards belgrade, as well as a drone and the political region. this is go live to julia shop of all of analyses that the central election commission in moscow and food and projected to win as expected. julia, what's the mood in the country right now?

well, that's right. uh, well actually pulls up close, now surrounds russia, but the russians are still violating in europe and overseas. the side of the central election commission has come and keep processed at about 24.4 percent of fathers and legitimate patients has right now let's may have a quick look. 87.5 percent of the vote was cool, stays at the preliminary results and they are being announced right now. and the, the figures are changing constantly. so we've had some representatives of the regional commissions announcing the results according to the official information. the number of versus this year has exceeded the previous 2018 presidential elections because of the central elections commission. a report more

than 74 percent of both of 10 out the overall turn out to apparently be maybe as as much as 7575 percent moved on at the full cost of fresh 70 percent. and this figure was the initial goal set by the crumb, and i'm gonna say the high turnout is a manifestation of peoples. well, the civic position on disclose this part is going to many people inputting stations . and it really seems like they really have all that heat shot at full day or so action. and it has of course, be in the 1st election since the invasion of ukraine. so how has that impacted as far as well, i can tell you the that said the discontent is grow a know lots of what works and people want to change. they want peace and they really saying that my team and patience, 24 get you guys and how it's way too long. downside of that. so they've been

closing a full of the candidates or they, they tried to spoil that many of those, the games but invitation was gathering at mid day today at the putting stations to participate. and so quote, noon against page and contain, and in such as frosty countries, including most coast st. petersburg and others. this is launch keys are formed as a, that's many pulling stations at 12 o'clock and not just the cost of finance, but also to see each other and show the world that let's me patient doesn't have the overwhelming support. and of course, we sold largest gatherings of russians abroad. they came in huge, huge quantities to that. and besides the world, just straight float and participate in this new the games patient campaign, we're still position code phone. you need to shop a lot of us. you want to has life from oscar with the, the nation from the presidential election as the results come in. thank you. yeah.

washing has also been taking place and ukrainian territories under russian control . the client has cooled, those votes and legged and void run. mcbride reports from case of this election is widely regarded here in ukraine is a facile b. it wants that according to ukraine, is accompanied by a threats, intimidation and bribery in the russian control, territories of ukraine, where this pilot is being held according to ukrainian intelligence and election officials in places like for these yet i'd kind of some have been going door to door with ballot boxes accompanied by on soldiers and also agents from russia's security service, the f s. b apparently to explain to voters who to vote for. and also apparently explaining that a boat not full vladimir putin might be considered to be anti russians as also to. busy of pressure being placed on business owners and public employees such as

teachers to turn out and vote. meanwhile, ukraine's parliament has condemned this whole exercise and cold upon the international community to do the same. and there's also be in a timely reminder, as has been issued previously when russian occupies, is a on known here of how these type of ballots in the elections in these a controlled areas of ukraine that any ukrainian citizens helping them do. it may well be held accountable, legally for legal action at some point in the future. run mcbride, i'll just say era. keith samuel dwayne is a professor of russian politics at kings college london and he's joining us live from london. thank you very much for your time. the supreme firstly, given we know who's going to win since the only real opponents for bod, from running. what do you think defending and hopes to achieve by holding the selection? this is a something original. the idea essentially is to communicate as much as possible to
9:44 pm
as many people as possible within the country. and if it's possible outside the country, v um the wrong 2nd level of support. uh, but the level of willingness of, of ordinary preference to tolerate. here's what you're exactly right. and as you, as you report indicates, right there really wasn't a choice all about this was an up or down up. so i decided it was meant to communicate the idea that, you know, russians don't have that choice, but they're willing to tolerate it. and so one fan does a lack of any real opposition and parliament, a lack of choice, as you say it, or a strong civil society mean for one person can do well, let's say it's a tricky thing, right? because the reality is that this election does not guarantee his time at all, but he didn't need to win this election to stay in office. it's. it's a useful tool for managing politics. but he will understand that it does not guarantee that he will serve out to the end of this next 6 year term. he will have
9:45 pm
to maintain his political control every day of every one of those 6 years. i think we can expect more regression. we're going to expect him to continue to use conflict with the west, including the war and ukraine as a tool. busy marginalizing his appointment's at home and communicating that the future for russia runs through him. he doesn't have many appointments left at home . does he? to me i'm certainly he does. right. so the, the 3 people home the ballot were not as important in any way. in addition to, to put towards the end of all they obviously was murdered. there are other political prisoners in english and prisons. most of the leadership of what remains of the opposition is outside the country. and yet we have seen the report indicated um, probably thousands of people across the country show up the top tens of thousands
