entering the 0 world reveals the long last personal testimonies from the men and women who fought for all julian independence and variety to not knowing if this would be my last letter. letters of love letters or for analogies, 0 the us democratic party in disarray over joe biden, future as his presidential nominees after his debased performance on warranty and out of the race. but the president is digging his heels. so will he stay or will these goals and who could replace 5 and if he were to step aside, this is inside the flow and welcome to the program. i'm for the back people. many us democrats are questioning whether president joe biden is the right person to head the ticket in
3:31 am
november's election. his lancaster debate performance against donald trump has raised doubts about his capabilities. can bite and silence the nay sayers and unites his body. or can he be persuaded to step down and let someone else take his space? we'll go to a panel of guess in just a moment, but for us this report from vinton monona us president joe biden is used to pressure, but this time it's coming from his own party. his performance, the faith against the presumptive republican normally don't from his raise. questions about his business for office or behaviors i used to, i don't speak is movie i used i don't the bad debate as well as i use. well, i know what i do know. i know how to tell the truth. despite growing concerned, the white house says he's determined to continue his campaign to be re elected in november noon. everyone. the president is clear eyed and he is staying in the race . i don't have anything else beyond that. he has thank he's being in the race,
3:32 am
but some supporters aren't so sure. a recent poll suggested $1.00 and $3.00 democratic voters wants them to step aside. i am feeling hannah. i certainly liked laying in my bed at night like overcome with here. i do not think that you'll find in that is the best person to be running in the selection. i was very surprised when i saw that debate. i didn't know realize the condition he was in, or how he appears. several high profile names have been floated as replacements. among them, vice president campbell of harris, california governor gavin use in michigan. governor gretchen whitmore, some democrats in congress have called for biden to quit the race, but for now the party is closing ranks and democratic governors of premier support behind the president. i'm here to tell you today, president joe biden is in it so when it and all of
3:33 am
a sudden we pledged our support to him because the states cannot be hired bite and faces accruing campaign. the democratic party convention is an august and he'll face trump in another debate in september. and if he is convinced to step aside his successor, we'll have a narrow window to make an impression on voters before election day. since mom had elders era for inside story of the let's bring in a guess now in washington, dc is a scott bolden, chair of the national bar association, political action committee and former chair of the washington dc democratic party in dallas, texas were joined by ronnie, a beatrice, the veteran democratic party strategist and christian wolf is the chairperson of den across the broad u. k, which holds the same status as a state political party. kristen is joining us from working in the united kingdom. thank you. 2 or 3 of you for being on inside story today. we appreciate your time, scott. let me start with you in washington dc. as of now,
3:34 am
the biden campaign is projecting confidence that he will remain the nami, me, but just looking at the chaos over the last week or so, does this look to you like a campaign that's ready to go out? and when a lot, it's a campaign that is very beautiful. what is the way it is a whole nother story. there are the democrats on a top top position. we're 6 weeks from the, from the d as a convention where the nation will be formalized. and it is a campaign or why all right versus, is fitting out of control. not too much that by law, the fate or didn't for yeah, well it's how we did. it was like a kind of trying to put sensors together or thoughts together when he was very well to do that. it wasn't just as bad as a night race issue between 50000000 people. what the critics of said was that he was all i was mental acuity, wondering what it was should should be. i don't agree with that. he started doing
3:35 am
this really doing sort of legally much. there is a table campaigning. and when i get done that i was gone. so yes, lots of issues right around the part of lives are closing, right. all right, now we've got $250000000.00 in the bank, which is good. and right now we're waiting on a definitive hallway to see what the voters say because in the right, it's going to be up to the voters and the structurally by the control of delegates . in order for them to replace these go, at least of the race was willing to do that right now, let me ask you about something else before i bring in. ronnie, as scott, has president biden, you think, taking the steps to consider the growing concerns over his candidacy. there was some suggestion after his meeting with the governors on wednesday that he could be perhaps reconsidering his position. but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. as well, hopefully that's not the case, but literally unrealistic. my based on what my source tell me if it's sort of
3:36 am
a subject of discretion, real problem with the bottom campaign and why, how do they have not gotten ahead of the story to get ahead of the story. they need to let him go out to reporters, let him do some job queries and do another debate that this was just one bad, like you don't want to do that and they have so far. so your heart and the minute your finally have a real big problem, including the bigger problem america has a problem with the fraser. now these are last told, so he's going to get it together. he's going to get out of the race right around. yeah. your thoughts do you think the president and his team are being candid with the americans about his condition and his ability to leave the country right now? you know, i don't, honestly, i think that this is not a new situation and i agree with so much of what scott said in regard to this is was, wasn't just one back to bait. it really called into question something that
3:37 am
a lot of people across the country myself included, have been asking when the president of the united states takes a stage. we shouldn't be holding our breath and wondering which joe biden, which president binding is going to show up. and that's unfortunately what we've been doing for several months. so no, i don't think they've been honest. i think we saw it play out in the most atrocious setting on a debate stage across from you know, a truth bashes and, and as so many of us have been discussing, it's not just the country, the united states that's being going to be affected. it's the entire world, and we're, we're seeing these things plant right in front of our eyes. we saw the white house try to downplay it. i tried a gas light as quite frankly. and just like scott said, the only way to deal with something like this is to get him out there to put him on the stump. unscripted without a teleprompter. and unfortunately, i'm just not sure that president biden is capable of doing that. alright,
3:38 am
christine your thoughts? what's going on behind the scenes in the democratic party right now, what's your party strategy to control and repair the damage done by present biden's debate performance? well 1st, if i can just comment on your last guess, you said, you know he needs to get out there. he does and he will be doing that on friday. he'll be doing a long form interview with, you know, a very prominent news broadcasts are in the us political strategist. so stay tuned . president barton will be doing just what they have suggested he, he should be doing. but you know, well, the democratic party needs to do right now is we need to call out the real elephant in the room. and that is donald trump. donald trump has allowed us to be distracted as a democratic party about import, debating performance. when in his own debate, he stood on that stage and just spewed a litany of lies that was largely on challenge, and that is as big of
3:39 am
a problem and something that should be far more part of the public discourse right now than anything about joe biden. joe biden has a very long track record of accomplishments in just 3 and a half years. he inherited an absolute mess from donald trump, and we are going to get out there and start reminding voters exactly why they didn't like donald trump when he was an officer to begin with. and why? if he is to return to the office, he will be not only a threat to democracy in united states, but it's right to democracy around the world. so key message do not get distracted . that is the message i have delivered to my leaders in my work ization here in the u. k. and to make sure that we accomplish our job of work, which is to appeal to those independence, right. and those last republicans, kristen, let me ask you how, how is this being viewed in the u. k. and the rest of the world has people express concern to you about the chaos that's the, that's uh, you know,
3:40 am
we're seeing in the democratic party right now. people concerned about what's happening in america? well, if you, you can't escape the news stories, but the big question i keep getting asked is, why are we talking about donald trump? and that is, i think where we need to start shifting this dialogue quite quickly. we need to talk about his moral character. i mean, the man is a convicted felon for i should be talking about why is it that the republican party doesn't give us a another option. okay, ronnie, a as a democratic strategists, your response to that question says donald trump is distracting the democratic party and that the focus should be more on him rather than been present biden's debate performance or his ability to lead. if i agree that donald trump is a terrifying human being, we've already seen what he's capable of in one administration. i personally have no interest in seeing what he'll do, an executive administration. and which is to me,
3:41 am
the reason that we have to act quickly and swiftly to replace the sitting president with a candidate who can be out on the stump and uh, and campaign vigorously, and, and to, you know, the, it's, yes, it's one to be in the in any other situation, we will be talking about the atrocious things that donald trump said and didn't get to use a wire and a convicted felon. and he from, from the debate state, he said black jobs multiple times, use palestinian as a racial flitter. we wouldn't be talking about all of those things and all the lies . had it not been so terrifying to see that side by side of president bided next to guess that convicted felon. and we have a very small window of time to really get it together in the reality is the president has not, was not doing great in the polls even before the debate. so this is, these are the realities we have to face. and as much as all of us wish we were in
3:42 am
the situation we, we actually have to do something about it. because again, it's as we're talking about not just the state of our democracy in the united states and the state of our country. but, but what's gonna happen in the rest of the world as well? all right. uh, scott, your thoughts about what ronnie had just said that is it possible inside for joe biden to step down, to have an open convention? uh, you know, when uh, august comes when the democratic convention comes in, what are the issues illegally with having a democratic candidate so late in the race? if 5 you were to decide to step down. this is the reality that we find ourselves in saying there are no good decisions or bad decisions. they're just decision that needs to be made and then you go make them right. i really right, these, these issues i have to my are calling from a you can we all agree with you? donald trump is a distraction, adolfo is a convicted felon, and he is a he has been found guilty or
3:43 am
a lot more manageable and sexual abuse. but you got to give the people alternative and buying as our alternative is. got a great track record, but it 50000000 people don't have cars because the pay the people, the independent suburban women voters and people make up the face of the democratic party, the down to, i mean, oh no, that's a, that's a good fortune. and so he drives this narrative just as before. but how big mistake today is, do i have this story making some decisions? i'm putting out the show that there's the origin. now the dmc is a 6 weeks right? right. control, all of this done. you would have to step down when draw a lift of delegates go. now, paris is on the status by the president. she would be a natural choice for number. the number was you wouldn't have to release the
3:44 am
delegates and you'd have $240000000.00 says debris haven't gotten there. doesn't have national appeal, hasn't been on the national stage. and that gets more complicated. visual challenger, the, to the legal implications of verification change and morrison. a decision has to be made now that later. ok. so that way, all right, and i want to get ronnie and chris and thoughts about who is finding what you decide to to drop out of the race. so it could be top of the ticket. but chris, and let me ask you 1st about the conversations that are going on within the democratic party right now. the president, in his, in is in a circle, seem to be adamant that he will stay on the ticket. but within the democratic party right now, what are people saying? because we're seeing a lot of mixed messages about what democrats want. do they want to wait for joe biden to decide that he doesn't want to be part of the race anymore? that he's going to drop out, or is someone else going to be making that decision. what they want is for joe by
3:45 am
and to come out the strong and show the jo buying that we all know and love. i mean, you have to remember, this is a man who is very well regarded within our party. and he has done a tremendous job since he took office 3 very well. here's how did you say question, but they awesome voice is within the democratic party who was starting to say that, okay, maybe he's not the right candidate for us. and people are entitled to that view. i mean that the reality is though, is that this party right now jo, buying is on our ticket. we are supporting our candidate and we're proud of the candidates record. we're proud of what he has done for our country. and we are going to stand by him unless he decides himself, but he doesn't want to run, in which case. then we have a hole in really impressive list of candidates that couldn't come forward, but the, our bench is our strength. that's where we are also in big contrast with the
3:46 am
republican party. they really don't have any one. we've got a long list of people. but right now we are candidate is joe biden, and were sticking by him. okay, uh, rodya your thoughts do you think the democrats will continue to stick by, by them, even as, as court said, you know, that the fall out from the debate performance continues to grow. there's this interview on abc on friday that everyone is keeping a close eye on uh about how he performs there. do. how does he change the narrative between now and the convention if he wants to stay as the democratic nominee? for if to your 1st question, i think we're seeing every day just last night we had another sitting member of the democratic caucus and the in the house called for president bindings and step aside . obviously we saw like congressman like dog. it do the same just a couple of days ago. i think these conversations are ongoing and i think we're gonna see more of that in the coming days. yes. you're right we,
3:47 am
everybody is sort of holding our breath a bit to see the interview with george stephanopoulos tomorrow evening and prime time. but the reality is it, even if he, i said this to a colleague just yesterday, even if he gets a cold or has allergies or some re either one of the realities of just being out in the world happened. he doesn't have that luxury anymore because of exactly what we saw. and so i do think these conversations are happening and growing behind closed doors. i think they're going to come out in public even more in the coming days. i do think the president has a responsibility to this country and again to the world to, to do what's right to do what's right for, for all of us. he's not doing well. and as we all know, the president of the united states is probably the hardest job in the entire world . not to mention the campaign that goes along side it and we cannot have again a fascist out there holding for rallies
3:48 am
a day. lying and telling all of these untruths and have a president who can't get out on the trail with that same energy. and in that same commitment, not that he doesn't have that commitment but, but we just, we can't have that contract. it's not how the numbers weren't good before the debate on thursday, and they haven't been getting any better sense. okay, scott, before we talk about the plan, be options for the democrats. do you think they wait for joe biden to decide to drop out of the race or, or are we going to see maybe the donors to be the ones making that decision as well? so now you have some democratic congressman called rims is step down. the donors are talking now my a sizable dollar to the gmc and all the buying and finance team and, and get the dollar to start to walk away. they're watching the money. they've got $240000000.00 in the bank, but the dollars the larger dollars to continue to give this dollars if you will,
3:49 am
the polling. so we need those answers real quick. i really, my colleagues from u. k. 5 is got the record and i'm about to present the heidi. but if you can't get it, you can't get it done and that's a reality. so the interview is a form, right? you've got the par, but then you've got to do some town hall meetings. and some be, are actually the press free style is the young people say, here in the u. s. and he cannot afford to swear. he cannot afford good because he's the, he's the baby. oh, sure. i see renters. the you won't be able to do it. you're right, right. he might not be able to do that. you got too much, i know in the next week or so. the following, cause he's 6 to 10 points down the decision making time for that will leave us with 5 weeks. and now you're going to have the discussions, what have you used to do better decision as to whether you still assume the
3:50 am
products here by stepping down or come in play as medical conditions so that we can all make some type of yeah, typical assessment. oh, i should be my own lies on the polls as you see. and whether or not undecided voters will actually, you know, move to trump or, or stick with, by the know go with bite. and let me ask you scott about plan b for the democrats. some names have been floating as a possible replacement for bite, and if he were to side you were to decide to to drop out of the race coming to hire is gavin use of the california governor breton with whitmore as well. how or african american votes is going to feel is come of the highest the vice president is not the top of the ticket as well. she certainly allowed to, she's been an incredible vice president just by her calling numbers being matched a well by bearing with young people very popular with anti abortion is very popular with people in voters of color as well as in america like history for americans.
3:51 am
but i can tell you this, that she's not the not let me because she's entitled to it as a number to then they're going to be some problems. you know that she does not know why she moves out to find the size or to to step down is that she helps him. she helps the ticket when voters of color, when the portion as young people to those groups that have a band in or left by the support of a bunch of different reasons. she shores that up. quite frankly, they come back and that's a pollution big doll truck before she to steal the banner. she sold super smart red car to different colors at the same time. i know her, she's a brilliant woman, has been in rehabilitation. and so, yeah, i think the american voters, for sure, if i, if she's fast or a ronnie as soon as strong endorsement they have from scott for coming to harris, what are your thoughts? you've come to harry's where to be top of the ticket. would that a piece,
3:52 am
democrats as a whole, would they, would they be unity in, in the padia around kind of the hires? my, i'm not ready to, to, to make any big claims around anyone i do. i will say that the vice president has a unique opportunity to grow, whereas the president, he's a known commodity. she does it very, very true. use me to grow. but the vice president does. she has an opportunity to bring together, just like scott set and disaffected voters, some in the black community, quite frankly, who had been upset with this administrator and over a number of things, including the inability to talk about reparations. a repertory adjusted from within the young community who care deeply about climate change, the other issues. then within the latino community it said, what about the i can tell you know, send me an estimate that the guy who don't, we should be so disappointed again that the biden administration's policies in the
3:53 am
middle east. yeah, absolutely. and that's as a 1st generation palestinian america. okay. and that was the very next thing that was going to say, she does have an opportunity to co last all of our community to bring us together to say, listen, i respect the front. obviously, she's not going to say anything against the president, but she has a very unique, very important opportunity to truly bring all of our communities together in an, in, not just a beautiful way, but it's incredibly important way. and she might be one of the only people that's being discussed right now who has that opportunity. but again, it's not just going to happen that advocacy is not just gonna say ok, she's our tech, and it's just going to magically, you know, occur. she's going to actually have to do the work and bring these voices and bring these folks into the room. i can give some assurance that is because there have been some very deep disappointment before that debate performance before a lot of things that have happened just in the recent months. there been
3:54 am
a lot of frustrations, right? disagree restriction with this president. okay, chris and uh, let me get your thoughts on that plan. be for the democrats, if they were to be a plan b, we're present binding in a couple of days or weeks before the convention decides that he doesn't want to run . he will drop out of the race, then we have an open convention of course, who could waiting for them across a dozen. or, as i said before, for stuff, it's a complete hypothetical. joe biden is our candidate. but should he choose to step down our bench string is really the party strength. we have diverse candidates everywhere, but i want to specifically talk about couple of harris. i agree with my colleague in washington. she is but nominal. she is marked. she is something that is a real energetic for us within our party. and she has been given such a hard time. she's the 1st woman to ever hold that vice president office and you
3:55 am
know, anyways, why do you think she's been given such a hard time sheet? it has to be say, she hasn't been very popular as a vice president. a lot of people, a lot of americans would say, what has she done, but you know what, what do you think it's, it's the case because she's a woman. i honestly do think that she is getting a hard time because there are people who want to see her fail and you know what, as a woman myself, i think that's a losing strategy for those people who, you know, have really made it their mission to disparage her throughout the last 3 and a half years. she is, i have met her personally. she is engaging, she's formed, she's bought full and you know, i think it is high time the weeds. if we really start to look at what she brings to the table. i do not know one single thing, but any vice president has ever done in the course of our history. other than enrollment, the prices, whether that is my bill. uh, mine pens doing his job, which he was supposed to do on january 6th, or whether that was, you know,
3:56 am
someone in the face of, in his fascination. i know of nothing that they've done because their job is to prepare themselves to full the highest office in the land and they are there. she has. okay. big groups and she's ready. okay, i'm gonna ask you each one briefly. one last question and you know, in 20 seconds, if you could give me your honest answer, that would be great. so let me start with you can bite and get across to finish line judy, stay or should he go the next week or 2 with his boss. all right, ron, you should he stay or should he go? he's got to go. all right, that's all it got. okay. all right, kristen? yeah, i think i, i think i know your answer question, but still should, should president biden stay on the ticket or should he let
3:57 am
a comment of harris the top of the ticket and give the democrats a chance to win in november? i think present by and should do what he feels is the right thing for him to do. and whenever he chooses, i'm with president 5 and 100 percent. so let's go by and hear of thank you. thank you so much. all 3 of you for such a great conversation, scott bolden. vanya batteries, kristen wolf. so great to talk to you about this, and i'm sure we'll be discussing this in the next few weeks again, once things get clearer for the democrats, thank you to all 3 of you for joining us. and thank you as well for watching. you can always watch this program again, any time by visiting our website at all just here a dot com for further conversation. go to a facebook page, that's facebook dot com, forward slash a j inside story. you can also join the discussion of force on x a handle. is that a j inside story for me fully back to going whole team here in doha? thank you for watching bye for the
