12:01 am
you and report says that's good news for the environment. i'm driving extra sports of jasmine probably makes history is she becomes the fastest tale and to reach the women's singles. fine. let me go to the thank you for joining us. caesar else, prime minister benjamin netanyahu has told military cadets the war on guys i will continue until victory is now says he remains committed to a c 5 d o that would see the release of old captives. but he insists how mosque must be defeated before any choice is possible. the life to that is all was inside us would never allow us to leave the war without a tv. and oh, the goal is to read the kid from us from gaza and the return of the captives and to our boat. any threat that might be imposed by you guys again as us
12:02 am
and to allow the people of the nose to go back safe to their houses and homes that someone cannot continue when this war will go on until the victory. meanwhile, mediators has a meeting in cotton trying to negotiate a ceasefire idea that would include a release of captives. the white house, as talks are the most promising they've been in weeks, but i'm off is it's not received any concrete steps to end the war. is there a drama spokesman has admitted failed to protect to civilians by not confronting thousands of amass fighters during the october 7th attacks. i'm the son who has won this from amman, jordan, israel government has bind us from a reporting from his job. that's why i'm dies reporting from my my. it is really army spokesperson, daniel ha, gary speaking on thursday at highlighting the 1st and only prove that has been
12:03 am
conducted into israel's failures. on october, the 7th, he said that in total a $101.00 people were killed in 2 boots buried. this is a town that falls along the guns of border that was attacked on october. the 7th, he says there was a series of logistical failures including in the lead up to the attacks and even the days beforehand. and all of this comes as israel's defense minister jo of the launch has called for a state commission inquiry, a full investigation into what happened on october the 7th. and this investigation wouldn't just be for the army, but it would be, for is really politicians and gallon highlighted that he himself should be investigated, along with his really prime minister benjamin netanyahu, who was sitting right alongside him. now nathan, yahoo, his government has long been rejecting any sort of investigation into the events on october, the 7th and the days leading up to it. because he has said that all of the focus of
12:04 am
resources should be located to the current war on garza. and in fact, the members of the far right government, including ultra nationalist, like each more bang there have said that there shouldn't be an investigation until after the war. it's also worth mentioning, but this is the 1st time these really army has revealed any sort of findings to any investigation as to what has happened on october the 7th. and they say that there are more investigations they're currently working on and are going to make those findings public once those investigations are completed. have the son, who's a jersey at all. i'm a and i'm reporting that from a mine again because israel's government has been dr. sierra from reporting from this. so what's covering developments from outside the country? meanwhile, senior mazda official who signed by john i sold on to sierra that permanent smith now is disrupting negotiations to serve his own personal interest. yeah, he did, you know, in the shop listen, yahoo,
12:05 am
who chose on people in front of the world can easily line the seas and give folks intentions. even the policies observing these motives and negotiations, including the united states. a fully aware that in this, in the yahoo is lying and is the main person from the occupation 10 during any agreement. we have always been positive and flexible, and now it's a moms that remains the same since the beginning of the negotiations. but when even the yahoo feels quoted by pressure from the policies following the negotiations, he shift the blame to hum us, but does not provide any real information or evidence to support his claims. well, let's discuss these latest development style with uh, my one but shy raw senior political. i missed joining us from paris. my one we heard the from my boss, the americans on the one hand sounding a beat about the prospects of a deal. but that's not what continues to insist, that the will continue is still talking about his red lies. what do you think is going on behind the scenes here? are they any close to a deal than they were in the last 2 weeks?
12:06 am
a good one, the united states says we are possibly close the deal. what possibly means? 50 percent. yes. and 50 percent. know if there were there were send we are probably close to the maybe that would be more like a 75 percent. so i think for the time being there are good chances on good or bad chances for the of the united states seems to lead by extracted you optimism it's been doing so for the past several months is the bombs schools and kills children and, and boundaries special both things and i'm just stories, hospitals, they americans continue to projects and that is true optimism that there is some form of negotiation song kind of a cease fire is coming. it helps the united states and it's diplomacy. and it stands in the world. but prime minister attorney, i'll continue to humiliate them, always emphasizing those red lines. i'm basically saying this one on my end
12:07 am
certainly not answer, but how much is the teeth if that doesn't seem to be a realistic objective? no more. the americans know that there is really literally understand stuff, but it seems to be a political objective on the part of the government in order to justify the long stay of his government. if, as you say, the americans know this, why do you think the binding ministration is sounding more positive? are they domestic considerations also at play here? especially at a time when there's been so much focus on present biden and his ability to lead. and it's not understanding um for the past several weeks since the offensive on girlfriend that the united states seems that this is counter productive and the war needs to wind down. and this for different reasons. one is because the americans actually think that is there a breach, it's potential and gosh on. and the part of this kind of go now the more it's going
12:08 am
to get stuck in the sense and into violence and then the blanche of god, just as it did before. the 2nd thing is that the united states thinks that's the reason that he's speaking. it's makes no more sense now to continue to widen the wards to 11 on and elsewhere. that's not good in control center stored in america. and sir, and yes, it is the political calculus by didn't is not for months into the election. and i think he really needs things to calm down in order for him to project an image of a peacemaker of a person who can manage a situation, not perceived president will have to run away from my guns. right, so, well the americans then put more pressure on or on netanyahu, and how might he respond to that if it would happen as well? it's doubtful. i don't think the i don't buy that has much leverage, especially when by them. so we control now, as you know,
12:09 am
with all the scandals about, you know, is age and, and his back performers and the debates and so on, so forth in an attempt checked on the see thing him and all of that. so all right, this is really not working through the advantage and is not making any executive very powerful, catastrophic pro president that's from table. this is able to pressure nothing, you know, already in his good guy when he was powerful and projecting force and ukraine against china. and taiwan, and yet he wasn't able to pressure nothing. yeah. into a cool yes. think the american demand. so now it's certainly not the case. what the united states is doing is trying to influence stuff in the out through the israeli military. the cause, the strongest relationship between this started the united states is the strategic one place where these really minutes, okay? and that's why you could sense that there's a bit of an agreement between the united states because also they is there, anybody says, doesn't have political ambition. or it's not gonna be a who does,
12:10 am
but they also because they understand a bit with more realism but the warden each to one darn and they cannot defeat how much, not a politically nor mean it's our new for the, for that matter, at least for the time be they need to release the captives and so on, so forth. so i think it's probably using it's leverage where they certainly mandatory with the european box notices, because now you hear the start murders and, and the, and the, and the cons of euro voicing interest and the cease fire. we're going to see more pressure. that weight remains to be seen whether or not that would be cool guess because he understands that perhaps his government's the future is on the line. my one, thank you very much for that. so that's our senior political analyst. my one bushera found the ground in gaza is really forces if can let me 50 palestinians in the past 24 hours. fighting continues in gaza city. so j district palestinians, returning to parts of the neighborhood, found most of the homes in ruins last week. the un estimated tens of thousands of

find, personal id, family, photos. these are the keys, are particularly sort oscar and the preferred that we were besieged before and had to leave and went to another place for a month and a half. after that, we return to our homes and found, or for story house completely demolished. we pitched a tent and south and it's waiting for the house to be rebuilt or for any assistance to be provided to us. then southern the we were asked to evacuate the place, so we evacuated. and when we returned, we found ourselves in this state. as you can see, there is nothing we can make yourself building that room and a stand in our structure for my significant damage, moves walls and foundations finch as services such as water, electricity, and sanitation have been severely disturb. power lines are down, water pipelines are broken and so systems are plugged destroyed,

measure rolled some past waves are full of the bristle farms out is to make you friends, will station within the neighborhood, nearly impossible. there have been numerous facilities with casualties, including facilities, activities, injuries, hospitals and clinics are overwhelmed with the injured of many of whom reflect urgent music vision. thousands of residents have been displaced, seeking refuge in temporary filters who are with relatives in the areas when they got in from an in the and if we were to be my dad is we were sitting safely, you know, homes and in the school sheltering displaced, people suddenly there was intensive foaming from aeroplanes and not hillary fire. we were forced to flee with great difficulty in efforts. but god granted us a new life. some people were killed on the button. miraculously we manage to escape and flee off to the intense bombardment started. the destruction we witnessed is
12:14 am
indescribable, unimaginable. we would deeply shocked when we return to the neighborhood. we found it completely destroyed with nothing left. there's no shelton, no water, nothing at all. it's obeying completely devastated environment and destruction have lived. seems like music as stars, particularly i'm going to children will have what is unimaginable terrors the other well these now and you, cranes, president has told me to that to win the war. he needs to hit military targets inside russia during and use conference at the need to somebody in washington with the alliance. the secretary general reason lensky was asked about restrictions on us and western supplied weapons. and then he says, the limits ukraine's ability to launch long rates,
12:15 am
rein strikes on russia. and if it is a one to win for one to be for one to save our country and to defend date, we need to leave a mutation. we understand where the see when to see from what communities are base and be a tech has an even the talk to us and to our children in the hospital. that is crazy question why we come to answer and it takes movies, especially this person. these communities are lease we have from these guided was from jazz or miss how targeted us. i really am. i. connie diary navigators spoke to dominique tank on the former head of a french military mission to the u. n. n. senior nato official. he says the support shown by the lines ukraine sends a strong message from all members. i think the message,
12:16 am
which is very important is the support given to ukraine for the long term. and the fact that the or lost inside nature are united to put that forward and provide weapon system mainly a different system in order to protect the population in ukraine. which is a bone by, by a russian aircraft that me size. so i think that there is nothing new in the fact that grey will john natal sometimes we don't know what that is. the current support to, to, to trade is really that. and i think that was very important to show that including people are wall of inside they to a country loc honory finally signed the declaration, which is right and called it the only issue of ukraine. joining nato in the presence of landscape walks away from the summit just as disappointed as he was last year because he didn't get what he wanted and he didn't get what he's calling
12:17 am
for, which is a clear time table and a formal invitation for ukraine to join a so why is that not happening? it's not a surprise. it was expecting this sort of picture ridge and the fact that a country crane is up for a comp authorize. the fact that the crane will joan they to because if the crane join they to now or in the show that an a to a will be to again russia under us don't on that. and just over an hour us present, joe biden, we'll take questions from reporters, as he wraps up the nato summit in washington. it will be another test. the weather is his sharp enough to campaign for a 2nd time. 10 days after a poor debate performance against his republican challenger, donald trump, the pressure is still on biden, to step aside 12 democratic politicians, i've obviously called on the president to drop out on wednesday after george clooney said, democrats need
12:18 am
a new nominate in to be trump his comments came just weeks after he headlined a major fundraiser for joe biden. later the same day democratic senator of peter welsh became the 1st member of the chamber to call on by them to quit the race. and early in the week, former house speaker nancy pelosi declined to defend to deflect the effect definitively. sorry, back by this candidacy in a television interview, the speak to our white house correspondent about this company. how good it was that the nato summit in washington, a high stakes, he's conference surprises by didn't company. what can we expect that? well, in addition to kind of the regular things you'd expect from a native press conference, so we are expecting to watch the president very carefully to see how he performs because it's all stakes that are really the political future will be determined by how the president performed the said in advance of this press conference,
12:19 am
i can tell you the fight and political aids were off on capitol hill, trying to reassure a very nervous law makers that the president is still fit to serve, that he is still viable as a candidate. but what we're being told is that that meeting didn't go very well and that there is still a lot of nervousness, a lot of panic in washington about how the president is going to do under pressure in this press conference. so all eyes are on the president and right now the hopes are not high that he's going to be able to pull it off. so right now what we know is that there are mounting calls, as you said, for the president to abandon his bid at the top of the ticket for another run for the white house. we also know that when it comes to whether or not the president can do it, if he doesn't pull this off already, we have heard that there are plans from senior democrats for meetings on friday to discuss the next steps. i. kimberly, thank you for the moment. kimberly how can live there in washington?
12:20 am
well, let's speak to alicia cross about this. she's a democratic strategist and former obama campaign advisors. she's joining us from washington. d. c. m. u. shit. so good to have you with us on algae 0. so this news conference, a huge public test for present binding, it would seem, what does he need to do to inspire confidence and what are you looking out for? so i think you've got. ready questions, you've got an answer them straight. he's got to answer them directly. he's going to be taking, you know, media fire from both american journalists as well as foreign journalists. he's got to lean on the policy ideals and the goals that he's had. one that have kept it all together, the strength of nato, but also i think that he's going to get questions regarding regarding his health regarding business. and for me as somebody who voted for voting for obama, and was buying a spice from it and voted for, for buying in the 2020. and well, i'm going to form again in the primary to get him where he is. this is a guy who has gotten millions of boats and gotten through the american primary for the democratic party. i think that what you're going to be looking for is someone
12:21 am
who is going to reassure the american people. that is what they they, he can still lead. he doesn't think the have to refill a lot or. oh, gotcha. do you think he'll be able to do it? do you think you'll be able to do it? i think you'd want to be absolutely fine. i think the media has done a very good job of making a one and a half hour debate last for 2 weeks at this point. in that, quite frankly, the bible campaign did not push for the must or in the immediate aftermath that to be to quail some of the noise. quite frankly, there democrats are a little shaky that doesn't surprise me. democrats are always say become election cycles. right. however, there are a lot of downtown and races in purple districts, districts that do not leave democratic those, those individuals are fighting for their life. quite frankly. i don't buy who knows how to do these job. she doesn't have to prove that anybody. he's been doing the job, he's doing the job as we speak. he doesn't have the opportunity to just want to also not be present united, right? he's doing the job. the person we should be worried about is donald j thought.
12:22 am
right. even though anita was a boy, you got elected instigated january who doesn't have the vice president because of the price present and he did have he tried to have on january 6th. there are a lot of things that we could be talking about other than the presumptive democratic now. many was already walking into a convention with millions of both. yeah, but uh may sure we have 12 democrats not calling on the president to step aside. as you say, the democratic party is treat each there is going term lie within this body. we can't just ignore that. i mean is not, it doesn't bode well for the rest of the campaign is present by and what, where display economics. democrats is not a consummate majority of the democratic party. they are 9 democrats in the house. we'll call her buying the step aside. that is 9 democrats out of a 213 member body of the democratic party and congress. i think that what we're doing is amplifying very few voices and trying to make it whole, mystically bigger than it is. but what are the ones that are what about the role and find out? what about the posing the polling doesn't look good for buying. that may be seen useful. found the percentage of those the same side. the polling hasn't been in
12:23 am
favor of joe biden says, joe biden announced that he was going to run the pulling wasn't in favor of joe by the when he won in the primaries, the pulling hasn't been in favor of joe biden since the poli whole. basically favorability ratings for jo buying are exactly the same now as they were in april long before the debate happened. this is a president who was always for this, the president who was always the 5 colon and quite frankly, pulling in america this many months outside of an election cycle has proven policy on multiple occasions. this isn't the 1st cycle and we're pulling in america has been there. all right, and he said, you know, in the last 2 days we seen a growing chorus of voices calling on the president to step aside from a house speaker. nancy pelosi, democratic fundraiser. george clooney and now report at least some of the presidents own aids are, are discussing how to persuade him to end this re election bid. no matter how bad it goes. if the number of sentences you said is not consequential. if a number of sentences continued to grow, asking him to step aside,
12:24 am
none of that will change his mind. you think? and i think that this president is a nominee. this person is the only person who has been proven to show that he can actually be donald j. trump. he's already done it. this is a president who has been the most successful president in american history since f d r. when he comes to me, 1st from administration, all of his policies have kept the miracle on track. he rebuilt our economy. after the pandemic, he made us the envy of the will is adding comes with a balance of jobs every month to the american economy. reduced the cost of prescription drugs ensure that people will have a pathway to success were mired and steve loaded. this is the president who was proving his weight in gold. that's what's going to matter. i know where does this prep form a president obama stand on all this? uh, i know you're a former advisor, so you're in the know it's been reported that george clooney consulted obama before writing that opinion piece in the new york times reported that he consulted him before he actually had that opinion piece published. but if somebody who knows
12:25 am
president obama well, and he served on his campaign and then the administration, president obama has not more records than anything. and so the former president does, which he can call up any network he wants to. he wants to do so. where does not bad the game own just what the present it was, the former president may be thinking about the vice president that he chose to, to run, and to actually succeed him. okay. one last question is great to talk to you and he said, just one last question. do the democrats have a plan b? if i were to decide in a few days that he will step aside. the plan is you by manage your mind that same multiple times, nobody but the good lord is going to keep him from it. and the good lord is not stepping down to tell joe biden to step aside. so joe biden is going to be plan a plan b implants the come november. i mean, so very good to talk to you. thank you so much. i missed across a democratic strategist joining us there from washington dc. thank you for your time to start to kenya where the president is promising a lean, more efficient government. doctor sacking almost his entire cabinet when he moved

they want. although in some countries that are experiencing population decline, there is some concern that there are social and gender and legal barriers that are preventing people from having larger families. so that is something to be concerned about as well. and then for the countries that are continuing to experience rapid population growth, there are deep gender inequities that link to that. and particularly a lack of reproductive autonomy, an agency for women and girls to be able to have the number, timing, and spacing of children that they would like to have in their lives. yeah. tell us a bit more about past, you know, when you look at the trends, these demographic trends and, and the way they affect people's lives in sub saharan africa. for example, way young people are the majority. how, how does that affect people's lives that and it is usually impactful. we work with partners in new year for example, which is a really powerful example of where extremely useful population age structure and

very rapid population growth presents a lot of challenges for governance, for security, for resilience in the face of climate change impacts and dealing with issues around food in security. this is something that in the region of across the whole region of africa, there, there continue to be extremely useful population age structures. a lot of that is linked to social and cultural norms where child marriage is a, is a dominant phenomenon. so in these year, for example, up to 75 percent of girls are married while they are still girls. that leads to early child bearing and persists with the useful population age structure. yeah. so what uh, kathleen, do you think the international community should be doing to address some of these inequities revealed in these projections? yeah, there is a lot that needs to be done. and one of the areas that we focus on is the

population institute is thinking about global finance for reproductive health and family planning programs. we know that we are not investing enough around the world to meet people's existing needs for reproductive health and family planning services. in ways that would allow them to plan their families to be able to space and time pregnancies, or even to not be a parent if they don't want to be a parent. there is a huge funding gap there. and one that we really need to be thinking more seriously about if we want to see population trends move in a direction that leaves no one kathrine. thank you so much for talking to us about these. thank you for your insights. kathleen morgan, god is president and ceo of the population is to joining a sarah from washington dc and direct talks between don's military and the rockets for forces off to a slow start in switzerland,
