9:05 pm
but i graduated from middletown, ohio school in 2003, 21 years ago. and a lot of you know, the story of my family, a lot of you, i mean hell, a lot of you are my family actually were probably if you count 4th and 5th cousins, half of you are probably related to me in this room. but you know, this town was so good to me and i could tell so many stories about, you know, my, my grandma, my grandmother, i could tell stories about my mom and my sister. i can tell stories about it. we know it. we see here. we've got so many great. i think all those people here actually think cheryl or cheryl, you hear cheryl, i love you cheryl, my step mom. we just got so many good people who've been so good to me. but even if you've cast a wide or net, you know, ron selby was my math teacher in high school. ron's got to be around here somewhere . i know. yeah, that's fine hotel. i will tell
9:06 pm
a story that i don't know if the story is actually true or just the legend of ron selby. but ron, if it's not true, don't tell me because i've gone 21 years believing it, and i don't want to be. i don't want it to be contradicted now, but yeah, the story is that at some point, rhonda of course is a tough teacher. he demanded a lot of the students that i was a beneficiary of that. but the story goes that at one point, ron selby had a student who really didn't want to take one of those world famous wrong, selby math final exams. and so somebody called in a bomb threat to middletown, ohio school. ok. so everybody goes outside, of course everybody remembers the student one porter. no you get a bomb threat. you to go stand outside the fire department comes. but ron was really pissed off and somebody was met the best of with his schedule. so he walked over. he walked to the kids locker, got what was allegedly the bomb through to the trash can and said, i know this kid, he's not smart enough to make a bomb. let's get back to school. that's
9:07 pm
the legend around. so be i, you know, i, i could go through half an hour and longer, just talking about so many of us who may be, who i am, and i'm so grateful to you. and i said at the r and c convention, which was the craziest speech in the craziest environment i've ever given. it's, it's like all of you times a 100 people, right? they were just as excited as you guys are times about a 100 people. you could barely hear yourself think, but i said, i will never forget where i came from. ladies and gentlemen, i came from middletown, ohio. i am proud of it and i will never forget where i came from. events. oh, i might make the secret service. take me to central pastry afterwards to get some debts. here they go, they get nervous. they do not like an onyx and i loved mountains too. of course

both. i love both but bills is expanded a little bit. i feel you get no is not just at the, at the place, but they are on uh, what does that roosevelt get buildings anywhere now or at least a lot of other places. so it's, it's cast a wide or net. anyway, when talking about donuts all day, you can tell what, what, what i skipped lunch. so my minds on donuts here. but i, you know, and i'll tell you another story. you might, mammal was just an incredible woman and a lot of you newer and a lot of you newer personally. and i talked at the ard c convention and i'll, i'll repeat this story just because i think it illustrates how tough she was. that your memo died in 2005, and i was the united states marine at that point. and i was just about to leave for a rec and when it we and the rest of us went through her things. they discovered 19 loaded hand guns and mammals that is out of made up. now if that's the,
9:09 pm
that's well, you know, when she introduced yourself, sir, she is an app watching american which introduced yourself to my my uncle, my aunt weas husband. after the 1st time she said, i'm for brother county kentucky where a woman isn't fully dressed without her guns. so that's, that's, that's, that was mammals attitude. and you know, she was tough and she was disciplined and she is the reason why i've had so many of the good opportunities that i've had my life. but people don't realize she was an incredibly sweet and kind and caring person to. and i never forget, i was probably 10 or 11 years old and she picked me up from school. and there was just this, this very, you know, i've never seen this person. she was probably 14 or 15 young girl who was sitting in the back of the car and she was clearly a little freaked out. and i'm gonna get emotional. tell him the story. and i don't think that i've ever told the story before, but you know, memo said i said,
9:10 pm
who is this person who's in our car? and mammals said, don't worry about it any business. i said, okay, i'll shut up. eventually we dropped her off and then we went back home and i asked memo, it was that she said, well that was a that was a little girl. and i guess uh there was some, some pretty bad abuse in her house. and when that little girl ran away from home and tried to find a safe space, she asked, where could i go? and everybody said you can go to bonnie kansas house and that the and that is available, but that is the middletown that i knew you guys were always so good to me. i could talk about any number of public school teachers from ron selby to a number of others. i could talk about people who looked after us when we were riding their bikes around. memo was, you know, she was always worried about safety, but she was never that worried about safety in middletown,
9:11 pm
ohio because she trusted the people lived here and she knew they were good. human beings were look after all of us that we looked at for all of our kids. the, i, you know, i gotta be careful about that because michigan is one of the most important bout around states. so i cannot give the state of michigan any reason to vote against the trump dance ticket. we gotta, we gotta work hard for every single vote. but look, i, i, my point in intel on some of these stories is just that i love every one of them. okay. that was done on try this vice president nominate san isn't a found speaking in his home town of middletown, ohio. it is of course, as fast soto raleigh since being announced as trumps, new running beads. let's go to phil eval, who was also in middletown. he's outside, i believe. busy the. busy where a fence is speaking, so this is his home ground,
9:12 pm
isn't it? so plenty of support for him that are plenty of support, although actually we had a bit of a unusual situation maybe about an hour or so ago because jp on so right the went in, you know, we sold all the bites. we sold the secret service and it was this line of hundreds of people outside who's being here for 67 hours, who were told, sorry, play cisco, you know, getting in. and they will angry. they were obviously very supportive of him because he had a local guy, but they were also not very happy. some of them left and they said they were annoyed. they taking the day off work. and then what we saw was a master class and setting the situation around because he had obviously been told about this. he didn't want to risk the negative headlines, people to think about it. so we came out and he went over that just see what those blue flashing lights, albany this night, those. and everybody rushed over that to get that self piece of the pictures with him. with him in the background. he gave them away. he was not there for very long, but it did a real job of turning the phoenix around and we saw people walking the life cycle that made it worthwhile as they made the right heard. but of course, yeah,
9:13 pm
as you say, this is his hometown. as we just heard him talking a lot about his personal stories about his childhood and about why it's so important for him to start his 1st rally here in middletown. i'm going to bring it taught now. totes, i guess that we've got, hey i'm, he's got a quite a unusual suspect because thoughts of an event that, you know, usually the guy sees the call, the caps, the flags, and all these events he sells his honey honey, you've seen a lot of these events don't right, let me think, how does the crowd here compared to what you've seen at that site when pens was running a few years ago, while the energy here is staggering the device, samuel? so, i mean, obviously he's in his hometown, but his story is where he came from. what are you 40? they basically, it's a great story and he's young and he brings the, the, if there's a voting, but it's just been criticism off him for the fact that he's changes. political timing right? about trump, you know, the probably the cold in america's handling and all that kind of stuff. um, people who don't see my both about that place. i got to change his mind to 300. and it was years ago, i mean, the 2017,
9:14 pm
a 28. that's 89 years. that's the grant and saw they've got a good we've got to come back with. thank you very much. all right, nice easily. here's, this is not why they leave you here. okay, uh we uh now listening to her kim jeffries. uh, let's have a quick listen to what he's got to say is the minority lead of the us house of representatives. let's see what he has to say. unfortunately, unfortunately we, we just caught the tail end of a key, jeffries, the let's go to our white house correspondent kimmy, how could she joins us from washington, dc. so here we are at this point for a couple of harris growing by the minutes. we've just had confirmation in the last few minutes or so can leave that for my house speak. and nancy pelosi is who said come out to endorse come to harris. it looks like the policy is trudy routing
9:15 pm
around as the democratic presidential nominate. yeah, and as you below c has but how came jeffries hasn't a he's a notable exception, but you're right, the former house speaker, someone who helped the job prior to uh had came jeffries. uh well, my dad, he's the party leader, but she's also held that position as well. so she has come out and endorse campbell harris. and this is a big one because, you know, she made history as holding the position as a woman. and so it was really important for her to endorse comma, la harris, potentially given the fact that couple of harris could make history as the 1st female president of the united states. so she and her statement that i feel confident that cala harris will lead us to victory in november. now, as the fact that she has come out means that it's just a matter of time before it came jeffries, the top democrat in the house of representatives, chuck schumer,
9:16 pm
in the senate top democrats there. brock obama and you know, bernie sanders, a permit democratic senator hall, somebody that was successful bid for the presidency. they will also come out and endorse commer harris because they were all part of that pressure campaign to get joe biden, to step aside. and kimberly we, we, we miss taking live what her team jeffreys had to say, but i can see on the why is that what he did say was that a man chuck schumer, you mentioned images to meet with couple of harris shortly. so just focus through the timeline, it's a month until that democratic national convention. what. what has to happen before that as well? what has to happen in the end? i actually come to la harris has said it herself and talk, she's been tweeting about us. uh, we want to take a look at her tweet, what she's saying is it's the 1st full day of our campaign. so she's heading up to wilmington, delaware later to say hello to our staff in our headquarters one day down
9:17 pm
a $105.00 to go together. we're going to win this. she's got a lot of work to do. that's what she's going to be doing between now and august. 19th. as when the democratic national convention get started, she's making phone calls us or she did all day on sunday. she's trying to shore up her support because here's the thing. all those delegates that were pledged to joe biden in the primaries. well, they don't automatically go to her. she's got a wind them over and well by laws count. what i was looking at is she needs more than 2000. it looks like about a 1000 of already pledged for support for her, but that's unofficial. they have to do it formerly the democratic national convention, so she's shoring it up, making sure that she has all the support of the delegates and the superdelegates. she's already got the endorsements of more than 200 house democrats, more than 45 set of democrats, and 17 of the 23 nations democratic governors. so, i mean she's, she's pulling it off, but again, it's good it's, it's taken ruling of her sweet slaves making the phone calls. it's been hours of it
9:18 pm
and i hear she was doing it wearing her elevators, howard university sweatshirt. well eating pizza with anchovies all day on sunday. so now she's gonna hit the campaign trail and meet some of the campaign workers that are help her along the way. and kimberly, we just sold jd events that speaking at a riley in his hometown of middletown. what do, what is the republican policy make of the developments and the democratic policy of the last 24 hours? why don't they have to say about what's been going on as well? what they're saying is they're attacking comma le harris. they've called her a sort of tackling comma line, all kinds of flattering words, but really, why they're doing this because it's the absence of a strategy. and this is actually a problem for the republicans because what they don't have right now is sort of the village to campaign against right now. campbell is not, is the presumptive nominee. she's not the official democratic presidential nominee that doesn't become official until the democratic national convention. so there's
9:19 pm
a big question mark right now for the next month, and that makes it hard for donald trump to campaign. his whole strategy has been around campaign. it goes to by them, but with him stepping aside, their strategy is kind of up in the air and there's no running late for comm, la harris. the presumptive not democratic national. 2 rather, not many, so this really leads these kind of big for j, the balance as well. so it's hard to have a focus strategy when you don't know who you're running against. and so this is really problematic for the republicans and kind of leaves them hanging, which isn't really what you want to do and you've only got 4 months left until voters cast their ballots. okay, kimberly he'll get that for us at the white house, washington dc. now that president barton has quit the presidential race. let's have a quick look what is likely to happen next. so far as president, couple of harris will need to select a running rates. the democratic policy is use to hold
9:20 pm
a virtual votes for new nominate ahead of its national convention next month. but if the democrats caught united behind harris, it could lead to an open convention in this scenario, where there is no chosen nor many before the event begins. and if harris doesn't become the norman a, she on her running mate will have to be false to you to find a policy ahead early voting in september. and that's getting more and all this. somebody can speak. ashley bryan bailey, she joins is now from since not seeing ohio. she's the co founder of when black an organization campaigning to counter mis information. thank you so much for giving us your time here on out to 0. so we've seen the democratic party radi around couple of harris and the last 24 hours or so in the last few minutes we just had from nancy pelosi, who we still haven't heard from is barack obama. does that surprise you? i
9:21 pm
apologize. thank you for having me and, and, you know, i wouldn't necessarily say a surprise as a, as a former obama and bite and campaigns they offer. i am well aware of this strategic nature. and also the acknowledgment that i know brock has of the weight of his words, the weight of his decisions. but i don't think we're waiting on an obama endorsement . i think it's important to recognize that not just in the last 24 hours and but there are many in the democratic space that have been standing firmly with comma look as vice president on the ticket. but really re insuring the american people that the bite in here is ticket, what strong come a lot has been standing beside bite, and i over these last 3 and a half years leading across many different accomplishments. and so i think that, you know, it feels like the momentum, it's definitely an energized race because we are excited for a qualified top of the ticket. and we think by the end for taking such
9:22 pm
a great step in leadership to pass that towards to this next generation. but there's no me to wait on any other endorsements of the party were behind her. progressive organizations like myself and our firm at a be. we are on the ground and, and doing the work and, and ready to, to get her into the white house. we had again, okay, as, so assuming she is the nominee, i mean how, how do you think she's going to 5 politically in this match up against donald trump? sure. well, i, you know, i, i think that, you know, there is really no match up in my opinion. and your counselor really is a representative of the folks of this country as the daughter of jamaican and in indian immigrants. she is the picture of a public servant at donald trump. doesn't have, has the qualifications that a president comalla harris does from a district attorney to attorney general, to serving in the senate. and then now being
9:23 pm
a incredible vice president. i think when we're looking at just accomplishments to accomplishments, experience, and also being a unifier. and there really is no comparison. but look, there's a reality and there is no easy road to the white house, especially, and in the political landscape that we're in. and so we're very rooted in that reality and understanding that there's critical building blocks that we have some work to do. uh, black voters there. and you know, and lot of times there's, uh, black motors can be the difference between the margin of victory. but i also have to count, add that in 2016, you know, white women 50 to 53 percent voted to electronics. and so while you know, my focus will be really engaging and making sure we're telling the story and doing the research to make sure that we're up lifting come, lighting her accomplishments. but there's also work to be done to make sure that we're not finding ourselves in another position such as 2016 and,
9:24 pm
and how much she sell itself against from given there are a number of undecided voters who didn't like either abiding or trump. absolutely, i mean there's so many things you know, unfortunately coming out of the assassination attempt to donald trump, the country really is still feeling that the vision and the color is a unifier. i think folks are looking for someone that's not going to have this device of nature that someone that is finding for a quality for all. well, it has represented that she's been a champion for women's and re pro rights. she was the 1st president or vice president to ever visit an abortion clinic color had been leading the 1st ever done by one's office at a federal level. and these are things that are very stark contrast between what age from presidency represents. and so i think that's what the american people are looking for and they're looking for someone. and that is a while experience. but also looking at the next generation,
9:25 pm
listening to what voters are looking for and calmly definitely represents that. he talks about her being the 1st woman to be a president or, but also the 1st woman of black himself asian descends. while those are amazing things. and what she's a change is incredible, conveys fact, is actually combined with the fact that she's have little time to campaign actually was against as a course. i mean there's, there's so many things are that can be challenging in this race. but i'm, you know, fortunately she has the access to the infrastructure that has been the bite in here as campaign. and there are boats to pull progressive organizations and many leaders that are standing with her using the weight of our teams and my team at a be. we're putting research in the field right now to make sure that we have all of the messaging and insights needed to tell the appropriate incorrect story. but
9:26 pm
color is a woman and a black woman running for president, and we cannot ignore that. she is going to face much of vitriol as she has sense to one of the highest offices. and so i am, well, i think that that is going to be definitely a devastating challenge. it also is the story because i think it's so great weakness and that that is their only strategy because there is no strategy. when you're going up against someone who has a wealth of accomplishment, we have a wealth of knowledge and experience. and the only thing you can do is go low and that is exactly what they're going to do over the next 4 months. and carmella and her team and, and teams like my own, are prepared to tell the american people the true story of her record of who she is and why she is the best choice for our nation. okay, we're gonna get this over to you. ashley bryan. bailey, speaking to us back from cincinnati, a higher co found

a win black and managing partner of a be a black own research and creative agency. thank you. as the director of the u. s. secret service says the attempted assassination of donald trump was the most significant operational failure in decades. kimberly g to a has a paid before the congress. she told a house committee, she's taking full responsibility for any security lapse. safety services come under intense scrutiny off to the attempted assassination of the former president. earlier this month, donald trump was hit in the ear by bullets. one person was killed, 2 others injured schedule. she advertise, he was the only person capitol hill in washington dc. so the secret service chief, she had has an acknowledge that it was her failure. the secret service is failure. do we have a better idea of what actually went wrong now? know, and as a result, we've just seen mounting and an inter, judith,

see that the chief will seem to think that she could just top out this hearing on those on the subpoena and they'll answer any of the most basic questions. most importantly, how is it that a roof so close to the podium and donald trump was speaking, could remain unsecured. how could the, the one of the assassin be a be allowed to be seen is suspicious, but of a frat? despite using a rangefinder to, to try and case the area for distances trying to imagine be you haven't use a drone in the past climbing onto a roof and you have, he wasn't approach control and then it was almost almost too late. so i think one, congressman just said, this is the worst performance he's ever seen in front of a congressional hearing. this is more, more shame on the secret service. he said to me, the initial assassination attempt in butler, pennsylvania. i think one of the reasons why there was more anger is when the director of the secret service together to have somebody who stalls it with the statement where she talked about transparency and accountability. the secret

9:30 pm
this could be to conspiracy theories and problems. but i think we're even happen to have an actual campaign right now. and we want to see changes now we can't wait for for 2 months of issues or the changes are being made. and yet she's not, she's not deciding to reach any conclusions or, or actually tell us the most basic information. so what we also know more and more close bipartisan goals for her to resign. i think this testimony is going to increase those schools. thank you for that. she advertise see that person capital him the still ahead on challenges. era may, within the european union of the hungry is position on the ukraine is full. dr. stadium isn't big enough to contain the hissing. if it's the biggest stone and the is the the
