newcastle to climb out of the bottom three. hotspur hammer blow. west ham see off spurs at the london stadium to make it three wins out of four. and it's happened. masters championjon rahm ditches the pga tour and joins liv golf. hello and thanks for joining us on sports day, wherever in the world you're watching this from. we start with football and a massive result for everton football club. they've thrashed newcastle 3—0 at goodison park to climb out of the relegation zone. worth remembering, everton were deducted ten points for breaching premier league financial regulations last month, but a flurry of late goals gave them a much deserved win. abdoulaye doucoure scored
12:46 am
the all important second, with just 4 minutes left on the clock. after dwight mcneil had given the hosts the lead, the hosts punished a pair of mistakes with kieran trippier before better ran clear during ten minutes of stoppage time for his first league goal to make sure the points are still. the points are still just a one away win this season for newcastle. but everton out of the bottom three. you forget we are in an amazing possession now points—wise. if itt wasn't for them 10. 20 points would be an amazing return, you know, relatively to the last two seasons. so i've not lost sight of that. we'll see what the appeal brings. but the mentality is key for me. you know, look, you know, we took a knock. we know that. but there's been a lot of knocks here over the last couple of seasons. but the mentality has been growing and growing the team mentality. i can't emphasize that enough. the commitment to each other now, you know, the connection with each other. that's a really powerful thing. i know we've got quality, but the belief in each other, it's growing and it's sticking and that's important. it wasn't our finest performance tonight. i thought it was a difficult game. first off, i thought the game was very much there for us to take and to try and show our dominance.
12:47 am
but i think we lacked authority in our performance with the ball. everton play a certain way and made it difficult for us under pressure, but we were well in the game and second half. we probably had our best spell just before they scored. so frustrating for us because i think it was an opportunity missed. west ham united, meanwhile, have continued their fine run of form following a second half comeback at tottenham hotspur. christian ramires early header had given spurs a deserved opener in the 11th minute, butjarrod bowen hit back for the hammers, firing in a 52nd minute equaliser. james ward—prowse completed west ham's turnaround with 15 minutes left. it means spurs dropped points from a winning position for a fifth consecutive game, while west ham picked up their fifth win in six across all competitions. the players done a really good job. we were resolute, but hey, by the way, we put a hugely talented tottenham team tonight and you know, we had a defensive platform organisation structure to it which got us a result.
12:48 am
sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. but we also had really good players who can play on the break and can take the ball and and so on. more mohamed and paqueta and jared, not with forward players who could do that. it's one thing to dominate a game in football, but you've got to sort of make that dominance turn into something meaningful. and we didn't you know, we kind of lacked real conviction in our chances the first and second half and now conceded two goals as well from a lot of it's self—inflicted. so, you know, when you do that, you pay the price. so this at the top of the table looks following the conclusion of matchday 15 spurs missed the chance to move level on points with fourth place manchester city while newcastle stay seventh at the top. arsenal's last gasp win at luton keeps them two points clear at the top of the premier league. at the other end, everton climb out of the relegation zone. as we mentioned, the starters luton though drop into the bottom three. sheffield united are now five points from

safety at the bottom. that's one of the most iconic clubs in world football, and with eight league titles to its name, one of brazil's most successful as well. add to that, they're seen as the team with the most goals in football history. over 500 of them scored by its most famous son, pele. can't forget their three copa libertadores titles as well. however, good times at santos are over for now. on wednesday, for the first time in their 111 year history, santos were relegated from brazil's syria. from brazil's serie a. here's our south american football expert, tim vickery, in rio. well, you know, the club was founded the very night that the titanic went down. and now santos find themselves relegated to the second division. they are a miracle. the city of santos, by brazilian standards, is a very small city. it's less than half a million. it's the port on a good day, about an hour's drive from the metropolis of sao paulo. now, greater sao paulo has
12:50 am
15 million people plus. so the fact that for so long santos were able to compete and win against the big cats from the city is an extraordinary story, i suppose, really. it kind of belongs to the the era when burnley could be the champions of england and nottingham forest could win the european cup. and really over the last few years, as financial gaps have opened up, there's just a group of small group of the the biggest brazilian clubs have broken away. they are monopolizing the major titles and it's become increasingly difficult for santos to compete. the timing is very, very cruel. this is the first season since the death of the great man, the death of pele. he lies in a mausoleum, which is pretty much in view of the santos stadium. and that can't have been good viewing for the late pele in the first season without him.
12:51 am
santos in the second division. but it was i fear, a question of time. golf time. two time major champion jon rahm has announced he isjoining the saudi backed live golf in a deal reportedly worth up to £400 million in what's another hit for the pga tour. the reigning masters champion, who, of course, was also recent ryder cup hero, made the announcement live on fox news. liv has already enticed the likes of dustinjohnson, brooks koepka and bryson dechambeau, others as well, of course, from the pga tour with huge paydays. but adding rahm is a real coup. he's the number three player in the world and an immensely popular player among the fans. finally, south african paralympic champion ntando mhlongo is one of his country's most successful pa ra—athletes. the 21—year—old became a t61200 meter world champion in 2019 before adding the paralympic title in tokyo in 2021 and has also won gold in the long jump. now, as he bids to retain his
12:52 am
long jump crown in paris next year, he switched training bases from his native country to britain and loughborough university, a move he hopes will pay dividends on and off the track. rachel latham has been to meet him and tando mahlangu, ntando mahlangu, a name you may not have heard of, but this south african athlete is training for his third paralympics and he's only 21 years old with gold medals and world records already. unlike so many british athletes who leave to train in warmer climates at this time of year. ntando has done the opposite and moved to loughborough. but why? i've had my fair share of summer, i think. you know, even my coach worries a lot when i when i train outside without a jacket or so on. i think i love the cold a bit. it's a new, it's a new scene for me. the most important thing for me to come to loughborough was opportunities. you come from south africa, you're the best. so you don't have really that competition that you know.
12:53 am
so then when you get to the, to the world stage and you actually have people that are better than you now, you know, you have to approach the race in a certain way. ntando was born with fibular hememelia, meaning the bones in his legs did not develop as they should, significantly reducing his mobility. at only ten years old, he had a big decision to make. the doctor said, do you want to amputate your legs? and i said, yes. and we took the decision on that because it was becoming a problem for me to move around. after i amputated my legs. i then realised that actually ijust lost a part of me. so it was quite an emotional, you know, emotional hurdle that i had to overcome. when i got my prosthetic legs, i started gaining the confidence. you know, i was invited to come to a fund run and i quite enjoyed it. hearing the wind whistle in my ear. and i knew that day that, you know, this is the sport that i'll associate myself.
12:54 am
to continue to stay on top. ntando needs more than what the profile of para sport in south africa can offer him. the uk, however, can provide him opportunities and high performance facilities, and loughborough university's athletics coach john mcdonnell is eager to support him. i don't see disability as disability. ntango's an incredibly talented athlete. i was probably more excited than anybody else at the time that said he was going to come and train us. and and it'sjust he's quite calm. i was thinking, i've got really talented athletes. if i give them some technical input, they kind of do it once or twice and they get it and then they look like they've been doing it all their lives. and ntando does that. i've broken world records, so for me it's no longer about myself. it's something bigger now. it's about other people. it's about giving other people opportunities. it's about putting a smile on other people. you know, it's no longer about ntando. i've ticked all my boxes, but now it's about passing on the baton to the next one.
12:55 am
he's notjust the sprinter in paris 202a. he's going for gold in the long jump. but whatever the event, ntando malango is a name you'll be hearing a lot more of in the future. rachel latham, bbc news. that's all the time we've got left. you can, of course, get all the latest sports news on the bbc sport app or on our website at bbc.com forward slash sport. but for me, mark edwards and the rest of the team here at the bbc sport centre, we'll see you very soon. with more sports news. bye bye. hello there. thursday's weather was pretty wet for many of us, and we're going to see further bouts of heavy rain moving their way in over the next few days. but i think for many there'll be a brief respite in the really wet conditions on friday with some sunnier spells. but we've still got this area of low pressure into friday, and that's going to keep things pretty unsettled. but the bulk of the rain
12:56 am
that we had on thursday has cleared away to the north and the east. and as we start off on friday, temperatures for many of us positive, so about 6—8 degrees celsius. still quite wet and windy in the northern isles throughout the day, and we'll see these showers moving their way in from the west. but there will at least be some sunny spells, particularly towards eastern and south—eastern areas for much of the day. one or two showers eventually moving in, and temperatures probably getting into double figures for many of us. about 6—8 ceslius across scotland. now, the winds will strengthen for a time around the irish sea and the north channel coasts. with that, some further heavy rain spreading through, and then into saturday morning, another band of very heavy rain will slowly move its way in, making it a very wet start to saturday morning. but again, overnight temperatures into saturday staying up into positive figures. now, for the weekend, it will stay unsettled. there'll be rain at times, but it's not going to be a complete wash—out. there'll be some sunshine around for a time as well.
12:57 am
but a very wet start, as i mentioned, for many on saturday. some pulses of heavy rain spreading its way north and eastwards. by lunchtime, spreading into central parts of scotland, northern ireland. for england and wales, there'll be a few showers towards northern and western areas. 0therwise, though, a drier afternoon with some sunny spells. and again temperatures 11—13 degrees in the south, 7—8 degrees further north. that area of rain will continue to move to the north with that area of low pressure, and then another area of low pressure develops as we head into sunday. that's one to watch. we could see some pretty strong winds linked in with that, with again rain spreading its way in from the south—west, pushing north and eastwards. so, yes, a spell of rain for a time before it clears, and there'll be something a bit brighter towards england and wales into the afternoon. just eastern areas staying on the wet side, and temperatures once again about 6—12 degrees celsius. into next week, it starts to calm down a little bit from mid—week onward with something a bit drier. bye— bye.
