hotspur hammer blow. west ham see off spurs at the london stadium to make it three wins out of four. and it's happened — the masters championjon rahm ditches the pga tour and joins liv golf. hello and thanks forjoining us on sportsday, wherever in the world you're watching this from. we start with football and a massive result for everton football club. they've thrashed newcastle 3—0 at goodison park to climb out of the relegation zone. worth remembering that everton were deducted ten points for breaching premier league financial regulations last month. but a flurry of late goals gave them a much deserved win. abdoulaye doucoure scored the all—important second with just four minutes left on the clock after
2:46 am
dwight mcneil had given the hosts the lead. the hosts punished a pair of mistakes from kieran trippier, before beto ran clear during ten minutes of stoppage — time for his first league goal to make sure of the points. it's stilljust the one away win this season for newcastle. but everton out of the bottom three. you forget we have been in this position before, points wise. ten, 20 points would be an amazing return, you know, relatively to the last two seasons. but the mentality is key for me. we took a knock. we know that. there have been a lot of knocks of the last couple of seasons but the mentality has been growing and growing, the team mentality, i can't emphasise enough, the commitment to each other now, the connection to each other. so, i know we have good quality, the belief in each other is growing and it is sticking and that's important. it wasn't our finest performance tonight. i thought it was a difficult game. first up, i thought the game was very much there for us to take and to try and show our dominance, but i think we lacked authority in our performance with the ball. everton players in a certain

way and made it difficult for us, put us under pressure, but we were well in the game and second half we probably had our best spelljust before they scored. so frustrating for us because i think there is an opportunity missed. west ham united continued their fine run of form following a second—half comeback at tottenham. cristian romero's early header had given spurs a deserved opener in the 11th minute. butjarrod bowen hit back for the hammers, firing in a 52nd—minute equaliser. james ward—prowse completed west ham's turnaround with 15 minutes left. it means spurs drop points from a winning position for a fifth consecutive game. while west ham pick up their fifth win in six across all competitions. the players have done a really good job. we were resolute. by the way, we played a hugely talented tottenham team today. we had a sort of defensive organisation platform structure to it which got us a result, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. we also had really good players who play on the break and can take the ball and so mohammed and jarrod and that, we had four players

who could do that. so i think you need to dominate the game in football, but you've got to sort of make that dominance turn into something meaningful — and we didn't. we kind of lacked real conviction in our chances, first and second half. and conceded two poor goals as well, you know, a lot of it is self—inflicted. so when you do that you pay the price. so, this is how the top of the table looks following the conclusion of matchday 15. spurs miss the chance to move level on points with fourth placed manchester city, while newcastle stay seventh. arsenal's last gasp win at luton keeps them two points clear at the top. at the other end, everton climb out of the relegation zone as luton drop into the bottom three. sheffield united are now five points from safety. it's one of the most iconic clubs in world football and, with eight league titles to its name, one of brazil's

most successful as well. add to that they're seen as the team with the most goals in football history. over 500 of them scored by its most famous son pele. i can't forget their three copa libertadores titles as well. however, the good times at santos are over for now. on wednesday — for the first time in their iii—year history — santos were relegated from brazil's serie a. here's our south american football expert tim vickery in rio. well, you know, the club was founded very night the titanic went down and now santos find themselves relegated to the second division. they are a miracle. the city of santos, by brazilian standards, is a very small city, it's less than half a million. it is the port, on a good day, about an hour's drive from the metropolis of sao paulo. sao paulo has 15 million people plus. so the fact that for so long santos were able to compete and win against the big

cats from the city is an extraordinary story. i suppose really it kind of belongs to the era when burnley could be the champions of england and nottingham forest could win the european cup. and, really, over the last few years, as financial gaps have opened up, there isjust a group, a small group of the biggest brazilian clubs have broken away, they are monopolising the major titles, and it has become increasingly difficult for santos to compete. the timing is very, very cruel, this is the first season since the death of the great man, the death of pele. he lies in a mausoleum which is pretty much in view of the santos stadium and that can't have been good viewing for the late pele. in the first season without him, santos in the second division. but it was, i fear,

a question of time. golf now. two—time major champion jon rahm has announced that he isjoining the saudi backed liv golf in another hit for the pga tour. the reigning masters champion, who was also a recent ryder cup hero, made the announcement live on fox news. it's a deal worth up to £400 million. liv has already enticed the likes of dustinjohnson, brooks koepka, bryson dechambeau, and others from the pga tour with huge paydays, but adding rahm is a real coup — he's the number three player in the world and an immensely popular among fans. finally, south african paralympic champion ntando mahlangu is one of his country's most successful para athletes. the 21—year—old became t61200m world champion in 2019 before adding the paralympic title in tokyo in 2021 and also won gold in the long jump. now, as he bids to retain his long jump crown in paris next year, he has switched training bases from his native country to britain and loughborough university — a move he hopes will pay dividends on and off the track. rachael latham has

been to meet him. ntando mahlangu! a name you may not have heard of, but this south african athlete is training for his third paralympics, and he's only 21 years old with gold medals and world records already. unlike so many british athletes who leave to train in warmer climates at this time of year, ntando has done the opposite and moved to loughborough. but why? i've had my fair share of summer, i think. you know, even my coach worries a lot when i when i train outside without a jacket on, i think. i love the cold a bit. it's a new scene for me. the most important thing for me to come provides opportunities. you come from south africa, you're the best, so you don't have really that competition that you know. so then when you get to the world stage and you actually have people that are better than you now, you know, you have to approach
2:53 am
the race in a certain way. ntando was born with fibular hemimelia, meaning the bones in his legs did not develop as they should, significantly reducing his mobility. at only ten years old, he had a big decision to make. the doctor said, "do you want to amputate your legs?" and i said, "yes." and we took the decision on that because it was becoming a problem for me to move around. after i amputated my legs, i then realised that actually ijust lost a part of me. so it was quite an emotional, emotional hurdle that i had to overcome. when i got my prosthetic legs, i started gaining the confidence. you know, i was invited to come to a fun run and i quite enjoyed it, hearing the wind whistle in my ear. and i knew that day that, you know, this is the sport that i that i associate myself. as soon as you are fully warmed up we willjust get into the... to continue to stay on top, ntando needs more than what the profile of para sport in south africa can offer him.
2:54 am
the uk, however, can provide him opportunities and high performance facilities, and loughborough university's athletics coach john mcdonnell is eager to support him. i don't see disability, i see ability. ntando's an incredibly talented athlete. i was probably more excited than anybody else at the time he said he was going to come and train us. and it'sjust, he's quite calm. i always think, i've got a really talented athlete. if i give them some technical input, they kind of do it once or twice and they get it and then they look like they've been doing it all their lives. and ntando does that. i've broken world records, so for me it's no longer about myself. it's something bigger now. it's about other people. it's about giving other people opportunities. it's about putting a smile on other people, you know? it's no longer about ntando mahlangu. i've ticked all my boxes, but now it's about passing on the baton to the next one. he's notjust a sprinter.
2:55 am
in paris 2024, he's going for gold in the long jump. but whatever the event, ntando mahlangu is a name you'll be hearing a lot more of in the future. rachel latham, bbc news. that is all the time we have got left for now. you can get all the latest sports news at from the bbc sport app orfrom our website — that's bbc.com/sport. from me, mark edwards, and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye. hello there. thursday's weather was pretty wet for many of us, and we're going to see further bouts of heavy rain moving their way in over the next few days. but i think for many there'll be a brief respite in the really wet conditions on friday with some sunnier spells. but we've still got this area
2:56 am
of low pressure into friday, and that's going to keep things pretty unsettled. but the bulk of the rain that we had on thursday has cleared away to the north and the east. and as we start off on friday, temperatures for many of us positive, so about 6—8 degrees celsius. still quite wet and windy in the northern isles throughout the day, and we'll see these showers moving their way in from the west. but there will at least be some sunny spells, particularly towards eastern and south—eastern areas for much of the day. one or two showers eventually moving in, and temperatures probably getting into double figures for many of us. about 6—8 celsius across scotland. now, the winds will strengthen for a time around the irish sea and the north channel coasts. with that, some further heavy rain spreading through, and then into saturday morning, another band of very heavy rain will slowly move its way in, making it a very wet start to saturday morning. but again, overnight temperatures into saturday staying up into positive figures. now, for the weekend, it will stay unsettled. there'll be rain at times, but it's not going to be a complete wash—out. there'll be some sunshine around for a time as well. but a very wet start, as i mentioned, for many on saturday. some pulses of heavy rain spreading its way north and eastward. by lunchtime, spreading into central parts of scotland, northern ireland.
2:57 am
for england and wales, there'll be a few showers towards northern and western areas. 0therwise, though, a drier afternoon with some sunny spells. and again temperatures 11—13 degrees in the south, 7—8 degrees further north. that area of rain will continue to move to the north with that area of low pressure, and then another area of low pressure develops as we head into sunday. that's one to watch. we could see some pretty strong winds linked in with that, with again rain spreading its way in from the south—west, pushing north and eastwards. so, yes, a spell of rain for a time before it clears, and there'll be something a bit brighter towards england and wales into the afternoon. just eastern areas staying on the wet side, and temperatures once again about 6—12 degrees celsius. into next week, it starts to calm down a little bit from mid—week onward with something a bit drier. bye— bye.
