and the home side took advantage at the end of the first half — elijah adebayo heading home to put luton on course for what could have been one of the big upsets of the season. but not to be in the end, as city came out and delivered in the second half. bernardo silva and jack grealish with the goals for the victory, which ends pep guardiola's streak of four league matches without a win. they're still fourth, two points behind aston villa. luton stay in the bottom three. that is the challenge. people say city's over already. ok, so this is the challenge that we have ahead of us. so prove them wrong and still be there in the way they run and they fight and they, you know, come here and behave like we behaved. i'm really, really, really proud. i thought we were really brave. i thought the performance was excellent. you know, without the ball, really aggressive. tried to not allow them to get their rhythm and get their game going.
12:46 am
i thought with the ball, we took it, we were brave, and i think the goal was an excellent example of that as well. so, frustrated, to be honest, and especially when you go 1—0 up, but full credit to manchester city. you know, that's what top teams do. tottenham have also been struggling, but they ended their run of five games without a win in emphatic style by beating newcastle 4—1. spurs captain son heung min was the standout player at the tottenham hotspur stadium, providing two assists and scoring his tenth league goal of the season from a penalty he won. injury—ravaged newcastle got a late consolation with joelinton*s first goal of the season. the win keeps spurs fifth in the table, three points behind manchester city. newcastle remain in seventh. some part of me thinks i've been too harsh on them, because apart from newcastle — and you could see newcastle today, they're the only other club that's got injury
12:47 am
attrition we have — and it's very hard in this league. it's unrelenting. you miss one or two key players, you're going to slip. when you're missing virtually half your squad, yeah, we've gone through a tough time. hopefully, we're coming out the other side. you could see today with pape and richie coming in, 70 minutes under their belt, hopefully we're getting out the other side. difficult moment for us, and we probably expected it to come a little bit earlier than it has. i think the lads have been very, very good to sustain the results that we were having. the last two have been tough games, not us at our best. physically looked fatigued today, but as you say, difficult to do much about it. everton showed their resolve, claiming a third premier league victory in a row, putting further distance between themselves and the bottom three, despite their ten—point deduction punishment for breaching financial rules. sean dyche*s side beat chelsea 2—0 — that's the london club's seventh defeat in the league this season and drops them down to 12th place. today, we've had to fight against a very, very good
12:48 am
chelsea side with a top manager, in my opinion, someone i have a lot of respect for. we've had to fight, we've had to do all the ugly, hard yards, stay resilient as a team, press, defend and recover and stay solid — and we've done that against a very good side, some very good individual players. i think we started the game really well. of course, we were the better side against everton, but in the end, football is about to score goals and we were not clinical in front of the goal. we created, we had the chances and we didn't complete them. yes, really, really disappointed. rauljimenez continued his return to form with another goal as fulham thrashed lacklustre west ham to record their second five—goal victory in five days at craven cottage. it lifted fulham into the top half of the table, three points behind ninth—placed west ham, who missed the chance to climb into the premier league's top six.
12:49 am
the players, they understood the plan and they express themselves on the pitch. i think we did plan really well, and the players understand, the way they did it, they executed it. you know that you are playing premier league, you know that you are fulham football club as well. we are enjoying, the fans are enjoying for sure, but it's so tough to win a football match in the premier league 1—0 or 2—1 or 3—2. imagine to win with this score. it's something that doesn't happen often, even for the top clubs in this competition, for clubs that fight for titles in this competition. imagine for us. we enjoy, we wanted always more. the spurs game probably played such a big part in today. mentally, we were finding it tough, and physically as well. not many teams have had thursday—sunday games as many as we have had, and then we've got another one, two premier league games back to back away from home. certainly not helped us. but, look, we got a good win at tottenham. if you'd given me two draws at tottenham and fulham, i'd have seen that is probably
12:50 am
good results, so to take three points from two games, i'm not too disappointed. let's have a look at what all of that does to the top of the premier league table. it looks like this. liverpool finish the weekend at the top following their victory over crystal palace and arsenal's failure to beat aston villa. manchester city close the gap — they're now just four points off the top. spurs stay in fifth. fulham are also in the top half after their huge win this afternoon. and in the bottom half, everton pull further clear of safety. chelsea are in 12th place after that defeat to everton. luton stay in the relegation after their loss to manchester city. in spain, girona stunned barcelona to go top of spain's la liga. there were scenes of wild celebration from girona's players and staff, as they got their first ever victory over their neighbours, running out 4—2 winners.
12:51 am
it puts girona two points clear of real madrid at the top of the table, with barca down in fourth — behind atletico madrid, who are in third. to the women's super league now, where the title race is really hotting up after arsenal thrashed leaders and defending wsl champions chelsea 4—1. the game took place in front of a record crowd ofjust over 59,000 at emirates stadium, and the home side clearly relished the support. alessia russo scored twice as the gunners went level on points with chelsea, who only top the table now on goal difference. i don't think we have hit that level of performance yet this season, so it was really pleasing to see that. and i think that has been part of what we have been saying, that we need to grow and develop. we know that we have that level in us, we know that we probably have another level as well. this was the highest so far, so it was really pleasing to see. they bullied, they harassed. we didn't compete anywhere. i thought the whole team
12:52 am
was poor for us today. and when you play a good team and you're 3—1 down away from home, then 4—1, everything's an uphill battle. i think it was an extremely difficult game to coach. elsewhere, manchester united moved up to fourth place with an emphatic 4—0 win at tottenham. spurs are in sixth and are now winless in five league games. cricket, and england's women have lost the third and final t20 against india, but they did win the series 2—1. england batted first in mumbai, heather knight with a captain's innings, as she made 52 on the way to a below par total of 126, with four batters out for golden ducks. 0pener smriti mandhana got india off to an excellent start with a knock of 48 as the home side chased down the runs with an over to spare, winning by five wickets. the two sides play a one—off test this week on thursday in mumbai.
12:53 am
when i put the guys in the team that were in the team, i wasn't expecting three or four them to get out first ball, you know? but for us to still get reasonably close, in a tight game against their best 11, so like i said, i'm really pleased of the learning that we'll take from this game. in australia, the men's big bash league game between melbourne renegades and perth scorchers was abandoned afterjust 41 deliveries because of an unsafe pitch. the players were taken off the field after the umpires stopped play to inspect the pitch. the decision was greeted by boos from the fans. we finish with the newly crowned men's and women's kite surfing freestyle world champions, following the world cup finals in qatar. in the women's event, reigning world champion mikaili sol did her best to retain the title in doha, but a drop in wind for the final meant first place was shared by four surfers — a result which was good enough for the championship leader, brazil's bruna kajiya. at the age of 36, she's the oldest woman on the tour,
12:54 am
picking up herfourth freestyle world title. 0n the men's side carlos mario — also from brazil — had been dominant through most of the season and victory here seals his fifth championship. that is nearly it for us for now. just time to recap our top story once more. manchester city came from behind to end their four—game winless run with a 2—1victory at luton. they do, though, the champions, remain in fourth place in the premier league table. well, that is it from all of us. you can get the latest sports news on the bbc sport app orfrom our website, but from the team and from me, for now, goodbye. hello. for the second evening in a row, we've seen gusts over 70mph hit west wales.
12:55 am
of course, on saturday evening, it was storm elin that brought the very strong winds — whereas sunday evening, it was storm fergus, with a top of 74mph recorded at aberdaron. now those blustery conditions will tend to ease over the next few hours, with the winds picking up across the midlands, east anglia, and southern counties of england — might be strong enough to wake you from your slumbers. further north, the winds are that bit lighter, and it's here where we'll see the lowest temperatures. in scotland, 2—5 celsius, otherwise the winds keeping those temperatures up for northern ireland, england, and wales, so between 6—9 celsius. so quite a mild start to the day on monday. now monday, any rain left over across eastern england will be clearing pretty quickly, but there will be some patches of light rain coming and going through the day across eastern scotland. some showers work in across merseyside, greater manchester, and northwest midlands — but otherwise, it's a day where the weather will continue to get brighter and brighter with sunny spells breaking
12:56 am
out widely, and those temperatures lifting in places into double figures. make the most of that relatively quiet spell because, on tuesday, we're back to another area of low pressure. this one slowly rolling in off the atlantic, bringing with it some persistent rain in scotland — aberdeen*s already had over a month's worth of rain, so we could see some localised flooding impacts. bit of snow over the high scottish mountains, but nothing to get excited about, it's really high up. blustery conditions in the southwest with plenty of showers, some of them turning quite heavy, with an odd rumble of thunder. temperatures again quite widely into double figures, but again, scotland seeing temperatures around 6—7. now, that low pressure starts to pull away during wednesday — as it does so, the winds go round to a northeasterly direction, bringing some damp weather to eastern areas of england, but also dropping the temperatures progressively through the day — such that by the time we get to the afternoon, we're looking at temperatures typically around 6—7 celsius, feeling quite a bit cooler, but in scotland, around 3—4 for some. and then we have a weather front moving into that cold air wednesday night. could turn to snow for a time over the hills above
12:57 am
300 metres' elevation. the snow is short—lived — it will turn back to rain as slightly milder air begins to push in off the atlantic once again. that damp weather then continues eastwards on thursday. high pressure then takes over, giving us quite a long spell of dry and sunny weather. we have to wait until friday to see the best of that.
