significant day in football. the proposal of a european superleague, which horrified groups of fans across the country a few years ago, has resurfaced. today, the european court ofjustice decided that it was unlawful for uefa and fifa to threaten to ban clubs from joining breakaway competitions like the european super league. which means there's nothing to stop it from re—forming. let's take a look at how it got to this stage: it was in 2021, that a breakaway competition called the european super league was proposed, involving some of europe's biggest teams in a closed shop format. six of the twelve clubs were from the premier league, but there was fierce opposition from fans and football's governing bodies. and in the following days, all six premier league clubs pulled out, leading to the league collapsing with just barcelona and real madrid remaining. at the time, uefa and fifa both said that any club who joined
