of good news, it looks like we are heading for a drier spell for quite a few days in fact. but it will turn colder. it is drier as we speak. yes, there are some showers and some relentless rain in eastern scotland and windy conditions into the northern isles. a few showers in northern isles. a few showers in northern ireland, running down through the cheshire gap. but there is also some sunny spells across south—west england, central and southern england and not a bad afternoon for the bulk of scotland. temperatures through the afternoon around four to nine degrees. as we go through the night tonight that front across the northern isles will push north and it will weaken off a band of cloud to the east of the pennines. a few showers to the west. but as the winds fall lighter, mist and fog could form and those clearer skies. a touch of frost in sheltered rural parts. a chilly start to saturday. that weakening front to the east of the pennines bringing

cloud and the odd shower. to the west, the fog will lift and some sunshine here and a few coastal showers still. but west will be best for the sunshine. there is a phrase i have not use for a time. starting to get cooler though for most of us. high pressure will continue to build, the winds will fall light, as we go into sunday. and that means that again frost and fog could be an issue first thing. and we could be chasing cloud amounts around with more cloud from the north sea and the odd shower in essex and kent. and more cloud will mean it will feel chilly for some of us. a bit of a shock to the system, we haven't seen temperatures like this for a while. the high pressure will continue to establish itself across the country, pushing westerly, the winds rotate in a clockwise direction and an easterly direction, a coolish source, continuing to

bring a little more cloud off the north sea from time to time. but let's continue with that positive note, yes, frost and fog could be a problem first thing and it will be on the cool side, temperatures below average, but a lot of sunshine and most importantly no significant rain. . ~ and that's bbc news at one. you can keep up with all the latest developments on the bbc website. now it's time to join our colleagues for the news where you are. goodbye. hello and welcome to sportsday. everton consider appealing the controversial red card their striker, dominic calvert—lewin, was given following another var intervention.
