as assistant coach in 1994. tim vickery is in rio dejaneiro. very few people sit astride international football like mario zagallo attributes we heard paid to him reflected that greatness. i certainly think you could make a case for the argument that mario zagallo is every bit as important as pele in those years when brazil establishes itself as the country of football. obviously less glamourous than pele, less talented than pele, but what zagallo symbolised was the balance between attack and defence. he was a left—winger, little left—winger in this first bowl cup winning sites and this was a time when brazil are pioneering the back for and withdrawing a number of players at the heart of the defence

and still have four up front, do your maths. that only leaves two in the middle of the fields and zagallo realise they have a lot of ground to cover so what he did was not only he was an attacker when his team had the ball at left—wing when his team lost the ball, he was shuffled back and work in the midfield that why he is called the little hand. these days it is what everyone does. those days it is what everyone does. those days mario zagallo was the pioneer. fascinating balance comes into play. my fascinating balance comes into play. my next question, if you have so many stars is that 1970 team did on the fields, you need somebody with influence, authority, but with a bit of understanding about the stars to be able to organise a team into a successful one the likes of which of course we had barely seen since. exactly. he only took charge of that team three months before the tournament and ever still stuck in time, they were still playing the

make but given everything we have been speaking about and the generations upon which he influenced, it was a rare breed. yes, we have to be a survivor to coachin yes, we have to be a survivor to coach in brazilian football especially the national team coach it is like you know very well that the players will get the credit when things work and coaches will get the blame when things go wrong and we touched on this wind zagallo really being under appreciated for what he did as a coach in 1970. fernando diniz was a standing while brazil were waiting for carlo ancelotti, the real madrid coach. now we know carlo and schlott he is now not coming so there is no need to have a standing and fernando diniz is also a club coach who were recently beaten by manchester city in the final of the club world cup so fernando diniz is gone and we don't know who is coming in to replace them. so impersonal at the moment they don't have a coach and there's all kinds of chaos going on in the brazilian fa. it is enough to make

northampton saints are back at the top of the premiership table after coming from 26—nil down and scoring a last minute try to win a2—36 at exeter chiefs. while saracens were beaten 19—10 at leicester in a week where 0wen farrell has been linked with a move to parisian club racing 92 and although the french club say no contract has been signed, they've not denied that talks may have taken place. drew savage reports. who knows were over in farrell may end up and now he's still on english soil but now many people want to haveit soil but now many people want to have it stay that way. it probably wasn't the speculation about a move to france that led to this unforced error — but either way, dan kelly accepted the ball with thanks and leicester tigers were off and running. the sort of pass farrell won't want to see again. saracens

got their noses in front after great work from elliott daly was finished off in style by tom parton. but the tigers improved their chances of making the play—offs — tries from matt rogerson and harry simmons saw leicester close in on the top four. meanwhile both exeter and northampton could have gone top of the table and for a long time it appeared that it was going to be exeter — four tries in 23 minutes put them 26—0 up. northampton made the most of two exeter yellow cards though — and 26—12 at half time became 35—29 to saints after a hat—trick of tries from 0llie slightholme. exeter hadn't lost at home all season and probably thought they'd done enough when rusi tuima put them in front again 36—35 with eight minutes to go. but northampton simply refused to be beaten — and in the final seconds, rory hutchinson sealed an amazing a2—36 victory — which puts them top of the premiership.

saracens extended their lead at the top of the women's premiership as they thrashed sale sharks 69 points to 3. they're six points clear of gloucester hartpury who moved up to second with a a2—2a win over loughborough. the late game is between bottom side leicester and harlequins. at half time, the harlequins lead 19—7. meanwhile the wolfhounds scored five tries away from home to knock edinburgh off the top of the celtic challenge table. aoife wafer scored twice, including the irish side's final try of the game as they secured a 27—17 bonus point win in the multi—national rugby competition. the wolfhounds are in scotland again next weekend, as they take on the glasgow warriors. the opening finals of the new tennis season are set as the first of the australian open warm up tournaments reach their conclusion. it's just a week and a day before the first grand slam of the year and the top two seeds holger rune and grigor dimitrov will meet in the brisbane internationalfinal. dimitrov beat the home favourite joredan thompson in straight sets whilst rune was also a comfortable

about that, for a third goalfrom raheem sterling to put chelsea very much in a comfortable 3—0 lead against preston. can't guarantee too much with time he has certainly been on our side. that's all from sportsday. hello there. for many, it's been a much drier day today with some sunshine. but again, there are still around 200 flood warnings in force because all the rain that we've had is still making its way through the major river system. so for more detail, you can check out the website. but actually the drier weather is here for a while now. it will feel colder as it has done today and we will have some frost and some lingering fog like we had today in cumbria. and thatjust thickens up again this evening and overnight under the high pressure. but the high pressure is going to be responsible for the drier weather. it's blocking these weather systems from bringing their rain in off the atlantic.
6:57 pm
but it's not altogether dry. there have been quite a number of showers, which will continue to diminish for most this evening and overnight, although we may pick up more across east anglia and the south—east and they could fall as sleet or snow over the higher ground here, it's certainly going to be cold enough. widespread frost, and of course, because it's been so damp, so wet, there'll be quite a few issues with ice, i should imagine. and certainly first thing sunday morning along with the fog. so potentially some freezing fog around. still quite a keen breeze up in the north of scotland and more of a breeze compared with today in the south and the east. one or two wintry showers around, but they should be easing, one or two showers to the east as well, but fewer further west. that's where we'll see the lengthier spells of sunshine. but it's not going to help our temperatures much, actually. it'll feel chilly wherever you are, and obviously it will be accentuated by that keen breeze. it's going to be picking up more so today across east anglia in the southeast. but then it's a return to frost and fog then through tomorrow night into the start of monday. and that cold air, that high pressure just hangs on this week.
6:58 pm
but that increasing wind across the southern half of the uk in particular preventing as many fog issues across the far south and the east, butjust making it feel colder still. and temperatures are dropping lower by night, so they're not going to rise as much by day. and you can see starting to get a bit polluted with some fog around here and there. so we will see some lingering fog as we go through the coming few days. tuesday is a similar set—up, although by then that brisk wind may just lift a bit more of the cloud in the south. so we might see a bit more sunshine on tuesday across southern and central areas, perhaps a bit more cloud coming and going further north. but it's drier right across the board. and that drier weather looks set to last through much of the coming week. temperatures may recoverjust a little bit towards the end of the week, but it's dry. bye—bye.
