performance right in making sure we did not ignite any flashpoints and we didn't lose our discipline in any way. easier said than done in the heat of the battle and incredible support. you can see the support as soon as you come out the pitch, the feeling that gave us was huge and it was a big motivation today to win for the supporters after the recent run we have been on. with the recent results in the derby so everything was there for us, but still very difficult to win and i'm very pleased with the players. probably one of the best feelings we have had in football. to come here and with the atmosphere and obviously was a massive result and a lovely kick—start for us. obviously massive rivals but massive respect for their fans and i thought they made a great atmosphere i also think they are a really good team. really young team and the way they try and play so it was always going to be a tough game but like i said, to walk out and you have the butterflies and we have had some big games this season but i don't think any were bigger than today. it was a massive point in our season to see where we are and the last

brazilian football legend mario zagallo who won 4 world cups as a player and coach has died at the age of 92. fifa president gianni infantino has paid tribute by saying the story of the world cup couldn't be told without zagallo a true great whose influence on football particularly in brazil is supreme. zagallo had been the last surviving member of the side that lifted the trophy in 1958, which was his country's first title. he won it again 4 years later, before then going on to manage what is widely regarded as the greatest international team of all time the pele—inspired side that won the world cup in 1970. zagallo's final triumph came as assistant coach in 1994. south america football writer tim vickery is in rio dejaneiro and told me zagallo's importance cannot be underestimated.

i certainly think that you could make a case for the argument that mario zagallo is every bit as important as pele in those years when brazil establishes itself as the country of football. it's obviously less glamorous than pele, less talented than pele. but what zagallo symbolised was the balance between attack and defence. he was the left winger, little left winger in those first two world cup winning sides. and this is a time when brazil are pioneering the back four. they're withdrawing another player to the heart of the defence. but they've still got four up fronts. now do your maths. that only leaves two in the middle of the field and zagallo realised that they had a lot of ground to cover. so what he did was not only he was an attacker when his team had the ball at left wing, when his team lost the ball, he would shuffle back and work like mad in midfield. that's why he was called the little ant. these days it's what everyone does those days. everyone does those days

mario zagallo was the pioneer and it's fascinating. and balance actually comes into play in my next question, tim, because if you've got so many stars as that 1970 team did on the field, you need somebody with influence, with authority, but with a bit of understanding about those stars to be able to organise a team into a successful one, the likes of which of course, we barely seen since. exactly, yes. and, you know, he only took charge of that team three months before the tournament and they were still stuck in time. they were still playing the old style, 4—2—4. and he immediately says, well, we're not going to do that. so he made in a little time that he had he made wholesale changes to the team. river lino, the great left footed midfielder, wasn't in the team before zagallo got there and i went in depth with him on this and he was quite happy to see his team as a kind

of prototype as a modern day, a—5—1 or 4—2—3—1 compact behind the line of the ball when they lost it, ready to explode together. you can bet your life if everything is looking as easy as that brazilian side made it look in 1970. there's some very hard work going on behind the scenes. and zagallo was the man doing those hard yards. i've got to ask you in a moment about fernando dennis, the man who is one of the successors to mario zagallo, is the brazilian coach because he's lost his job as the interim head coach of brazil. but the reason i'm going to bring him up is because longevity in brazilian football isn't necessarily an easy match to make. but zagallo, given everything that we've been speaking about and the generations upon which he influenced, there was a rare breed. yes, you've got to be a survivor to coach in brazilian football and especially the national team coach. it's like sitting in a coconut sky. you know very well that the players

are going to get the credit when things work, the coaches are going to get the blame when things go wrong. and we've touched on this with zagallo really being underappreciated for what it is did as a coach in 1970. now, fernando diniz was a stand in while brazil were waiting for carlo ancelotti, the real madrid coach. we now know that ancelotti's not coming, so there's no need to have a stand in. diniz is also a club coach. he coaches fluminense who were recently beaten by manchester city in the final of the club world cup. so diniz has gone. we don't know who's coming in to replace him. so the brazil at the moment, they don't have a coach and there's all kinds of chaos going on in the brazilian fa. it's enough to make people very nostalgic for the years when mario zagallo ruled the roost and just to touch when mario zagallo ruled the roost. and just to touch on what mario zagallo might have made of it, simply because, as you say, tim, there is a good deal of instability and the future for the brazil national side does not look as blessed as perhaps some of those teams that mario zagallo was a part of. he would have absolutely hated it. he was absolutely in love with the brazilian national team. i talked to him in depth in 2006

about the fact that pele decided not to play the 1974 world cup and zagallo who coached that side, he just couldn't understand it. he said, how can you pass on an opportunity to represent your country in something as important as this? and i said to him, this is in 2006, if someone selected you to play for brazil today, you still would. for brazil today, you still would? and he smiled and he said, well, i wouldn't do much running around, but i'd still play. that's the kind of man he was. he was an absolute force of nature. and football has today lost one of its true greats. let's have a quick look at some of the other stories making the headlines today. spurs have agreed a deal to take the former chelsea forward timo werner on loan until the end of the season from rb leipzig. the german international scored ten goals in 56 games for chelsea. and there's an option to make the deal permanent in the summer. david warner signed off his test career with a win

hello there. for many, it's been a much drier day today with some sunshine. but again, there are still around 200 flood warnings in force because all the rain that we've had is still making its way through the major river system. so for more detail, you can check out the website. but actually the drier weather is here for a while now. it will feel colder as it has done today and we will have some frost and some lingering fog like we had today in cumbria. and thatjust thickens up again this evening and overnight under the high pressure. but the high pressure is going to be responsible for the drier weather. it's blocking these weather systems from bringing their rain in off the atlantic. but it's not altogether dry. there have been quite a number of showers, which will continue to diminish for most this evening and overnight, although we may pick up more across east anglia and the south—east and they could fall as sleet or snow over the higher ground here, it's certainly going to be cold enough. widespread frost, and of course, because it's been so damp, so wet, there'll be quite a few issues

with ice, i should imagine. and certainly first thing sunday morning along with the fog. so potentially some freezing fog around. still quite a keen breeze up in the north of scotland and more of a breeze compared with today in the south and the east. one or two wintry showers around, but they should be easing, one or two showers to the east as well, but fewer further west. that's when we'll see the lengthier spells of sunshine. but it's not going to help our temperatures much, actually. it'll feel chilly wherever you are, and obviously it will be accentuated by that keen breeze. it's going to be picking up more so today across east anglia in the southeast. but then it's a return to frost and fog then through tomorrow night into the start of monday. and that cold air, that high pressure just hangs on this week. but that increasing wind across the southern half of the uk in particular preventing as many fog issues across the far south and the east, butjust making it feel colder still. and temperatures are dropping lower by night, so they're not going to rise as much by day. and you can see starting to get a bit polluted with some fog around here and there. so we will see some lingering fog as we go through the coming few days.

tuesday is a similar set up, although by then that brisk wind may just lift a bit more of the cloud in the south. so we might see a bit more sunshine on tuesday across southern and central areas, perhaps a bit more cloud coming and going further north. but it's drier right across the board. and that drier weather looks set to last through much of the coming week. temperatures may recoverjust a little bit towards the end of the week, but it's dry. bye— bye.
