hello and welcome to asia business report. i'm mariko oi. we begin with bitcoin and how a fake post by the official social media account of the us securities and exchange commission sent the crypto—currency�*s price for a ride. it was posted on the sec�*s x account, claiming that the commission had approved an eagerly—awaited financial product. that was followed moments later by another tweet saying the account had been compromised and the news was fake. here's more from our business correspondent erin delmore. if you're in the crypto world or curious about getting into it, then a spot bitcoin etf has been on your radar that would enable people to bet on bitcoin�*s gains and losses even if they don't own any bitcoin themselves. us regulators are widely expected to approve

the new exchange traded funds this week. so when a tweet was posted from the sec gov account saying essentially that it was noteworthy, it was also wrong. the sec and its chair, gary gensler, quickly posted on x that the sec account was compromised and that the regulator had not yet approved the listing and trading of spot bitcoin exchange traded products. the erroneous tweet also included a graphic with a quote claiming to be from chair gensler. a second tweet that only said dollar sign btc bitcoin�*s ticker symbol, was also posted, then almost immediately deleted. for bitcoin�*s value, a bit of a ride. the cryptocurrency climbed to nearly $48,000 on the false news, then fell back down toward 16,000 with reality. tesla has lowered driving—range estimates across its line—up of electric vehicles. it comes as a new regulation takes effect in the us with the goal of ensuring that auto—makers accurately reflect real—world performance.

according to a reuters investigation last year, tesla has historically issued range estimates that overstate what its cars can deliver. the social media giant meta says it will hide more content from teens on instagram and facebook. in a blog post the company said all teens will now be placed into the most restrictive content control settings on the apps and additional search terms will be limited on instagram. meta is under pressure both in the united states and europe over allegations that its apps are addictive and have helped fuel a youth mental health crisis. now to the growing fallout from the mid—flight incident involving a boeing 737 max nine plane on friday. the ceo of boeing has publicly acknowledged that the company had made mistakes, saying it would work with regulators to make sure it "can never happen again." hundreds of flights have
