for the second test against india, which starts tomorrow. hello there and welcome along to the programme. some big news to bring you from the world of formula one. bbc sport understands that lewis hamilton is poised to make a shock move to ferrari for the 2025 season. there've been rumours for years that the seven—time champion, who currently drives for mercedes, would like a move to ferrari. though a deal is yet to be confirmed, it's been reported that the italian team want hamilton to join charles leclerc, replacing carlos sainz. 39—year—old hamilton signed a new two—year deal with mercedes last summer but hasn't won a race since december 2021. earlier, we spoke to our formula one chief writer andrew benson. it seems like the hamilton move to ferrari is going to be confirmed at some point in the not—too—distant future. a number of sources have
1:47 pm
told us that the deal has been agreed. it is probably the biggest news story in formula 1 for many years and a huge shock, given that he signed a mercedes contract for this year and next year only a few months ago. we don't know why he has decided this yet. we don't know if he will say anything in the near future but hamilton to ferrari in 2025 seems like it's gonna happen. since he lost the eighth title in abu dhabi in 2021 in very controversial circumstances he has been driven by the desire to write what he perceived to be an injustice. obviously red bull and max and don't consider it the same way but the hamilton he feels he was robbed of that title and he very much wants eighth title before he retires. it is interesting he seems to believe that ferrari is the place to believe that ferrari is the place to get that because, ok, mercedes have been struggling for competitiveness in the last couple of years against the red bull onslaught since new rules will introduce a couple years ago. but ferrari have also been struggling and actually mercedes beat ferrari

narrowly overall to second place last year. but ferrari dilemma hamilton seems to have been convinced by ferrari and his work with that in principle before when he was coming up through the ranks. they are the teen are going to give him more success, so the move will be questioned but then the move to mercedes from mclaren back in 2013 was also questioned and that turned out to be an inspired move. it is interesting he has a whole year driving for mercedes ahead of him, assuming the ferrari deal is announced later. but it is not unprecedented for that sort of thing to happen. back at the end of 2005, fernando alonso announced he's leaving renault but then won the championship with them in 2006. unusual but entirely unprecedented in formula 1. the january transfer window for premier league and efl clubs closes at 11pm this evening and so far it's been relatively quiet. among the deals so far today,
1:49 pm
aston villa have signed forward morgan rogers from middlesbrough, for a fee of £8 million plus add—ons which may, in time, rise to 15 million. rogers has scored seven goals for championship club boro this season. and the brighton midfielder mahmoud dahoud hasjoined bundesliga side stuttgart on loan until the end of the season. the german joined the south coast club injune last year from borussia dortmund but has made just 1a appearances in all competitions. you can check out all the deals on the bbc sport website and app. there are two more premier league matches this evening. west ham host bournemouth and there's a mid—table clash between wolves and manchester united at molineux. erik ten hag's side have just one win in their previous five league matches, but he says he expects his side's form to improve. we miss players in crucial positions it weakens your team. especially when you have two stop every game almost. it doesn't help the routines in the way we play and also we have

seen some misunderstandings. but first of all is keeping the players fit. second, is getting them into betterform. the fit. second, is getting them into better form. the third, fit. second, is getting them into betterform. the third, when fit. second, is getting them into better form. the third, when we get that then the results will be better. now, how about this, from a social media video to the england test team, in the space ofjust eight months. it's a remarkable rise for 20—year—old spin bowler, shoaib bashir, who'll make his test debut when england take on india in the second test in vizag tomorrow. bashir only played his first first—class match for somerset last june, and this social media video from that match impressed england captain ben stokes so much, that he alerted the england management. bashir was then picked for the tour, although he did have problems getting a visa sorted in time to be available for the first test, which ended in that famous england win. he will though get his chance tomorrow, with jack leach injured. james anderson also comes in for mark wood. well, the man facing bashir in that video was none other than former england captain and leading run scorer alastair cook, who was

playing for essex against somerset. he's been speaking to the bbc*s test match special team and cook believes, like former england spinner graeme swann, bashir*s main asset is the ability to turn the ball. i think he has got the main attribute he spins the ball very hard, which i think graham swann was a big advocate of. it is early on in your career if you can spin the ball, the control and the discipline learning how to you can teach all that but actually the ability to spin the ball as well. he is tall, so he has some very natural attributes which will help. what i was impressed with when i faced him was impressed with when i faced him was he didn't bowl that many bad balls. cardiff full—back cameron winnett will make his wales debut in their six nations opener against scotland on saturday. but centre george north misses out through injury. north is replaced by owen watkin, while there are also recalls forflankerjames botham and prop

leon brown. the tournament gets underway with france v ireland in marseille tomorrow. former us open champion bryson dechambeau says a merger between the pga tour and liv golf needs to happen to bring the sport back together. negotiations between the pga tour and saudi arabia's public investment fund pif, which bankrolls liv golf, are continuing after they failed to reach an agreement at the end of last year. you are going to see both grow and at some point will come back together. it needs to happen. i hope people can just put down their weapons and come to the table and figure it out because that is what is good for the game of golf and fans in general. but again, i guess any additional capital going into the game of golf is always positive. i have always said that. it may not be exactly what we all think it should be but as time goes on i think things will settle down in a positive way for both. it all starts with the battle of the lukes, as the premier league darts series begins tonight in cardiff. world champion luke humphries, and now—17—year—old luke littler, are among eight players in the tournament who will visit
1:53 pm
cities across the uk, as well as berlin, and rotterdam, culminating, with the final in london in may. it follows a thrilling world championships at the start of the year with the run of teenager littler, who lost to humphries in the final, and they'll play each other first. i understand the attention is on luke but he has brought about a lot of noise to the sport so you can't argue against it. i think he deserves it ijust hope it doesn't affect him too much and he doesn't have too much on his shoulders. you know, everyone trying to get a piece of him because he's still young. i think he stilljust wants to enjoy life and be a darts player but he is the most famous darts player in the world, so it comes with a lot of added pressure i guess. and finally, despite being 51 years old and undergoing a hip replacement, multiple world champion surfer kelly slater is back riding waves. the american hadn't surfed competitively since last august and was given a wild card to take part in the opening day of the world surf league championship tour season. during the off season, slater had hip surgery to solve long term issues. but, as you can see,
1:54 pm
he was more than good enough to advance out of his heat. the other day my hip hurt really bad doing turns and so i was kind of depressed for a few days but then i got some work done and when i served yesterday felt ok. but yeah i just need some more time to heal. as far as performance surfing i don't know if i would be anywhere near ready right now but tube riding, let's go. it is always inviting and managed to get a good kick today. you can get all the latest sports news at from the bbc sport app, orfrom our website — that's bbc.co.uk/sport. from me and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye.

hello, thanks for joining hello, thanks forjoining me. the outlook is looking rather like the picture behind me. these lumpy, layered clouds on the way over the next few days. on top of that it will be very mild, windy, a little bit of rain around. there has been a little bit of talk about wintry weather possibly heading our way sometime next week but really that's a long way off. in fact, it is quite the opposite of the moment. if anything, we will see even milder air streaming anything, we will see even milder airstreaming infrom anything, we will see even milder air streaming in from the south. this arc of cloud here, weather front to the south and high pressure here. take a look at this mild air from the southern climes spreading across the uk and pushing cold air towards the north and east and that is what is heading our way. that is the forecast for the next few days. for this evening and overnight, rather a lot of cloud, clear spells for a time across the south—east and east anglia but overall for cloud across the uk with bits and pieces of rain, really mild in the morning, 10 degrees in the north, about 7

degrees and east anglia and the south—east. friday overall, i think quite an overcast day for many of us. a blustery day as well with rain at times in the north—west but wins really strong in the coming days with bumping and flowing across the uk, gusts in the pennine. a0 celsius. if you look at the pressure chart, these isobars, high pressure to the south, low pressure to the north. that big pressure gradients and we get those wins rushing across the uk. -- and we get those wins rushing across the uk. —— across the bulk of england and wales temperatures pushing the mid—teens. spot the difference as we head through saturday and into sunday. again, high to the south, low to the north, big pressure gradient. weather fronts sneaking in the middle bringing a lot of cloud and also some outbreaks of rain. again, very
