hello there. welcome to the programme. we're going to start with the english premier league, where the title race has become even more interesting after arsenal cut the gap to two points at the top of the table as they beat liverpool 3—1 at emirates stadium. bukayo saka opened the scoring for arsenal after 1a minutes, and they did look comfortable until gabriel scored an own goal in added time. at the end of the first half, arsenal retook the lead thanks to a defensive mix up between virgil van dijk and alisson, which allowed gabriel martinelli to score. and liverpool had ibrahima konate sent off in the closing minutes and then leandro trossard completed the victory. the win moves arsenal up to second place in the table. manchester city though, could overtake them when they visit brentford on monday evening.

i've been very happy, but it was a huge game. it was a game where it was going to dictate a little bit where we are, you know, where we are going to be. and it's an opponent that demands the best out of you and the best of every individual and a man in the best atmosphere to have the best chance to win. and we have replicated that with the players and then what they produce out there. he wasjust phenomenal. so when they play with that intensity, i have to put everything that i have and i have to put my energy into it as well. we had our moments, we controlled it, and then we concede that goal. and that's obviously you can concede the goal, but like this is obviously strange and everybody realizing that doesn't help and it just shows the boys are human beings that makes the things they usually do even more special. but today's we were really human and had a couple of problems.

vanderpoel continues to prove that he can do more or less anything on a bicycle. last year he won the world road race title in glasgow and he's just won a sixth cyclocross world championship, successfully defending the title that you won last year. the 29—year—old powerhouse pulled clear of the field early in the race and even had time for a little showboating as he finished 37 seconds clear of his nearest rival. and we end on some sad news from the world of rugby union. barryjohn, the legendary for wales the legendary former wales and british and irish lines at fly half, has died at the age of 79 after making his debut in 1966. john played in 25 internationals for wales and five tests for the lions. bbc sports correspondent joe wilson looks back on his life.

before rugby union was all muscularity. there was poetry and the pace and the rhythm was in the feet of barryjohn as a fly half. number ten, he dictated the play. he made split second decisions without even thinking. it is the quality shared by only a few that may truly be described as sporting genius. barryjohn was born in 1945 in a west wales village notable for two things — coal and rugby. he first rose to prominence at nearby llanelli before moving to cardiff. by 1971, barryjohn was helping to command wales, perhaps their greatest team, grand slam champions in the five nations. when wales needed points, he could always stop, kick and turn away knowing where the ball had flown. drop goals were a speciality. having conquered europe, barryjohn toured new zealand with the lions in the country where rugby is the currency. they called barryjohn the king.

hello. there is a change on the way this week. we will see colder weather pushing down from the north, but that change to colder conditions will not be quick. and it won't be straightforward either. as that cold air pushes erratically southwards we will see some rain — some of us may well see some snow. at the moment, most places are in this mild air, cold air across the north of scotland and along the boundary between these two air masses where we have a weather front. and this will continue to bring some heavy and persistent rain across the north and the west of scotland. the met office still has this yellow warning in force. by the time all is said and done, we may well have seen up to 170 millimetres of rain falling in the wettest locations, some snow mixing in on the northern edge of our weather front as it engages some colder air. to the south of our weather front, well, extensive cloud

cover, some mist and murk, some spots of rain and drizzle, particularly for western coast and hills. again, it will be breezy, but mild, 12—13 degrees, cold in northern scotland, just three there in lerwick. now, as we move through monday night, eventually that front will get a kick southwards. so that rain pushing southwards across scotland into northern ireland and northern england. some wintry showers following into northern scotland. temperatures here will drop close to freezing. further south, exceptionally mild to start tuesday morning to the south of our wriggling weather front. that front will be slicing the country in two, really. on tuesday, some rain across parts of northern ireland, the far south of scotland, into northern england, north wales. we may see something wintry mixing in over higher ground as that colder air digs in from the north. certainly some snow in the showers even to quite low levels across parts of scotland. still for the time being, very mild in the south, highs of 1a degrees. but that weather front looks like it will clear southwards into wednesday may be lingering across the channel islands, but elsewhere some spells of sunshine, some wintry

showers across the northern half of the uk and temperatures lower for just about all of us. and then as we get into thursday, a lot of uncertainty about this aspect of the forecast. low pressure expected to spin in from the south—west. as this front pushes northwards into the cold air, it may be that some of us see some quite significant snow, a lot of uncertainty about exactly where that might happen. it's likely to stay mild in the south, colder in the north.
