hello. hello from the bbc sport centre. christian horner*s internal hearing into a complaint of inappropriate behaviour is under way. the 50—year—old, who's led red bull's formula 1 team since 2005, is being questioned by an independent lawyer. his future in the sport has been the subject of intense speculation since the allegations — which he denies — emerged. our sport news correspondent laura scott is at red bull racing's hq in milton keynes. these are recent allegations made against christian horner by a female colleague. we know that they are taking it incredibly seriously and they have launched an independent investigation. they are saying nothing more about what those claims relate to. we at the bbc understand that the claims relate to allegedly inappropriate and controlling behaviour towards a female colleague. christian horner denies
2:46 pm
those allegations. we know that in terms of the timeline, all that red bull are saying at the moment, bearing in mind that this is being handled by the parent company based in austria, they say that this will be done as soon as is practically possible. they are not really putting any more timeline on it and clearly they wouldn't want to rush it. everyone in formula 1 will know that next season is just around the corner. newcastle manager eddie howe says he's not in favour of referees being allowed to issue a blue card to players, which would temporarily send them to a sin bin during games. it's been used at grassroots level in england for dissent but could now be extended to cynical fouls as part of a new trial. it had been expected to be announced today but the decision has been delayed. the premier league'as already ruled out being part of it, and howe doesn't think it's needed. i'm nota i'm not a big fan.

i'm nota big fan. i i'm not a big fan. i think that is what a yellow card is for. i think the current system works well, it'sjust got to be applied right. i think adding a blue card would just add more confusion, just in my opinion, so i'm against it. the countdown continues to super bowl lviii, just two days away in las vegas, which is staging it for the first time. travis kelce will be back in a fourth super bowl in five years as the defending champions kansas city face the san francisco 49ers, who lost on their last trip to the big game in 2020, when they were beaten by the chiefs. it gets you fired up, man, and it makes you accept the challenges that you get presented in life. you know, going through a few of these super bowls, you can't plan any of them. you've just got to be ready for the challenge and the task at hand to be ready to overcome some adversity, be ready to finish off a football game the right way. there are certain things
2:48 pm
that you can't train for in the super bowl. three time olympic champion shelly—ann fraser—pryce says she "owes" it to her family to retire after this summer's paris games. the 37—year—old is regarded as one of the greatest sprinters of all time after winning the 100 metres title in 2008 and 2012. the jamaican also won relay gold at the tokyo olympics and three of her ten world titles after having her son in 2017. she says this year's games are about "showing people that you stop when you decide," and that she wants to finish on her own terms. the los angeles lakers have unveiled a statue in tribute to nba legend kobe bryant. it happened before their game against denver broncos. kobe — a five—time nba champion — died at the age of 41 in a helicopter crash four years ago. he played for the lakers for 20 years and is fourth on the all—time nba scoring list. and that's all the sport for now.

staying with a sporting theme. the number of female football teams in england has doubled in seven years, bbc analysis has found. the season after the lionesses won euro 2022 saw the biggest increase. the football association says it will continue working to make the game more accessible. sussex is one of the counties with the biggest growth in women's football, and lewes fc is the only club in the country that pays their women's side the same as their men's. i spoke to the co—owner karen dobres to get her reaction to this news. it is really good news, it is good for girls and women to break those stereotypes, on the pitch and off the pitch, and ifeel like we are all better because of it. how the pitch, and i feel like we are all better because of it. how much of it is down _ all better because of it. how much of it is down to _ all better because of it. how much of it is down to the _ all better because of it. how much of it is down to the england - all better because of it. how much i of it is down to the england women's team being so great and winning? that has got a lot to do with it but
2:50 pm
when we look at the result for sussex county, being the third highest increase, we can look to equality fc, which is where lewes fc introduced equal pay and equal value for men and women footballers in 2019 and we have had more sponsors and owners and more attendance and women's matches in particular ever since which has surely attracted many more girls into football, we have had our gate figures quadrupled since 2017, because of our equal pgy- since 2017, because of our equal .a _ ~ ., since 2017, because of our equal pay. what about the nail bars and prosecco bars _ pay. what about the nail bars and prosecco bars at _ pay. what about the nail bars and prosecco bars at matches? - pay. what about the nail bars and prosecco bars at matches? the i pay. what about the nail bars and i prosecco bars at matches? the thing is, let me prosecco bars at matches? the thing is. let me start _ prosecco bars at matches? the thing is, let me start with _ prosecco bars at matches? the thing is, let me start with myself, - prosecco bars at matches? the thing is, let me start with myself, i - prosecco bars at matches? the thing is, let me start with myself, i did - is, let me start with myself, i did not even know that women played football in 2017 and that was largely because all i would see on
2:51 pm
the backs of newspapers and on the tv were men playing football and at school it was only boys who played. i was only given netball to play. when i heard my local club was going to be the first in the world to pay women the same as men, i said, what, women the same as men, i said, what, women play football? i went to see a match and i was amazed at what i saw, it was young women being strong and aggressive, making great decisions on the spot, and they were free and they were not decorations to society and i just thought, wow, this is the antidote to sexism and i started to become a massive fan and i volunteered for the club to bring in women to increase to gate figure because the criticism of paying women the same as men was that they did not attract the same crowds but there were women that did not know about women's football at that stage and there still are today. i went to tell women's groups to come along to these matches and support these women on the pitch and that was when

outgoing editor and he became the first black male editor in 2017 and this was his first ever issue and this was his first ever issue and this will be his last. he said he chose women who reached beyond fashion and culture to change the fabric of society in the 2020s in ways small and large and positive and he described the months of planning it took to bring together the star—studded cast in a studio in new york last december. he said from london, new york, paris, milan, los angeles and beyond, they materialised as if from a dream and the notion that these women are in the notion that these women are in the same room at the same time is so unbelievable that british vogue published a video that showed it had actually happened and they had not been photographed separately and stitched together using photoshop. the shoot took 15 minutes but the magazine will be hoping the image is one for the ages.—

one for the ages. thanks to courtney for that. a french model enthusiast has entered the record books, and it's a title he's had to fight for. richard paud's 7.2 metre matchstick replica of the eiffel tower was rejected by the guinness book of records after it was determined he'd used the wrong type of match. but after he filed an appeal, the authorities reversed the decison admitting they were too heavy handed. hugh schofield in paris explains. he thought he'd done it. after eight years of work, and 700,000 matches, richard plaud was ready for the guinness book of records. but then the hammer blow. he had used the wrong kind of matches. instead of using shop—bought matches and scraping off the sulphur, he had bulk—bought matches from the manufacturer, without the sulphur tips, and for that, his tower was disqualified. translation: it has been | an emotional roller-coaster. i mean, for eight years, i always thought that i was building the tallest matchstick structure. at the end of those eight years, the decision made
2:55 pm
by the guinness book of records, i found it too strict and cruel. it felt incomprehensible. but now, a new twist. the guinness book has relented. the condition that matches have to be shop—bought is now regarded as overly restrictive. like i say, we are happy to be able to admit that we were a little bit too harsh on the type of matches needed in this attempt, and richard's attempt truly is officially amazing. and so, all*s well that ends well. effort is rewarded and this is the biggest ever matchstick eiffel tower. it is official. hugh schofield, bbc news in paris. that is all from me here today. matthew is up next. stay with us here on bbc news. hello there. as temperatures have continued to rise, so the focus has shifted from snow to rain and flooding. this was the weather watcher picture taken earlier
2:56 pm
today in leicestershire. it's a combination of the rain and in some cases the melting snow that's led to a large number of flood warnings. the bulk of those have been across the midlands and southern england, but the weekend looks like it should be drier. this weather front has been moving northwards, taking the wetter weather up towards scotland and that's where we've got the colder air still in place, but elsewhere it is much milder and we are seeing some spells of rain. with that milder air coming in over the cold ground here in staffordshire, it's meant quite misty and murky conditions, as well as the snow gradually thawing. we've got misty, murky conditions across much of northern england and northern ireland. those are the temperatures we've got as we head into the evening. somewhat colder in scotland. there's still a strong easterly wind blowing and it's over highland and grampian above about 300 metres there could be as much as 20 centimetres of snow, so it really is well
2:57 pm
over high ground. it's rain elsewhere. we've got more rain in southern scotland into the night, moving away from northern ireland and some clearer skies will develop further south and it may well be a little bit chillier than last night across southern england, with lows of two or three degrees here. it depends on cloud and mist and fog, and we could see some mist and fog developing through the midlands towards lincolnshire. that will be a little slow to lift. and we've still got more cloud around in scotland on saturday. the rain and snow mainly in the far north of the country. some showers will follow to the south, mainly in south wales and south—west england. but we should see some sunshine and even across northern england, southern scotland and northern ireland. that will certainly give the temperatures a boost. it's continuing to get milder in the next day or so. the colder air is getting pushed to the north of mainland scotland by that weather front by sunday, but we've still got low pressure close by, so there still could be some showers and there may even be a bit of rain running its way close
2:58 pm
to these north sea coasts. otherwise, it could be quite cloudy with mist and fog patches to lift, particularly in the north. some sunshine coming through, but still a few showers, mainly in the south and west of the uk. blustery winds still through the english channel, otherwise the winds fairly light and those temperatures in scotland will continue to rise.
