fans frustrated, key players injured, form vanished and constant questions over the future of that man. just what can crystal palace achieve this season? and welcome to the football news show. in the last three months, only forest, brentford and sheffield united have worse records. they've not won back to back in the league since april. manager roy hodgson is the target for much of those dissenting voices from the holmesdale road stand, brought back last march with palace three points above the relegation zone. he kept them up. better than vieira and debruyne. not quite as good as allardyce or pardew. and how much hinges on these two? every jersey and michael ashley say 15 goal involvements this season compared to 31 for the rest of the team. bear in mind that at least he's been injured for half this season and essays missed a quarter of their games. while our man in the know, alex howe, gave us his assessment.

things are getting bad for worse for roy hodgson and crystal palace after that game and the defeat at brighton last weekend. michael only lasted 11 minutes before coming off with what hodgson says is a serious hamstring injury. and that has really summed up palace's season. he's only played 11 games, but when he has played, he's been the star man and his output has been excellent. and the same with eberechi eze. he has another hamstring injury and he's had his own fitness issues. and after that brighton defeat, it did seem that it could have been the end of roy hodgson. patrick vieira was sacked after a defeat at brighton and with the fan feeling towards the manager because of the poor results and also their feeling towards the clubs. it didn't look like he'd make it to the chelsea game. now he's there long—term fans are feeling that things have stagnated a bit, money hasn't been spent in the right areas and now the football is in great. and with the key players out, it does feel very negative heading

into the game against chelsea on monday. well, the former premier league midfielder michael brown is with us. michael, put us in that dressing room, if you can, when the results aren't going your way, when there's speculation about the future of your manager, how different is it? 10—3 on a saturday. listen, i've been in those situations many times with different football clubs, whether it's a relegation, whether you manage to just come out of it and it gets tense, it gets heated. and ultimately, the one thing is that's hanging over you is you need to get a result in the next game as that pressure increases and it's worry, it's not a good place on the training ground day to day. it's not that fun, the enjoyment you're going in after, the defeat can be tough. and when there's uncertainty around the manager and there's criticism there, you're waiting for some leadership, some statement about the club saying, well, he's definitely going to be here because ultimately those little cracks and you're thinking, well, those couple of i will probably like the manager to go and change because he's not picking them. and then you've got others who are thinking, well, i'm really happy. i really like what roy does, and we believe in what he contributes

to staying in the league to keep us out of trouble, to grind results out. so all around there's different areas of it. they need a bit of clarity for me, that roy hodgson is here until the summer. as a football club, they're thinking, well, if we lose the next three, how do we come out and make that? we might need that reaction. so difficult times. i've sat here for so long and say, leave off roy hodgson there needs to be ultimate respect in everything he does. he will get you over the line. he'll shake everybody's hand. he'll wish everybody well at the end of the season and then palace move on with whatever direction they need to go in, see they need to go in. let's see what the palace fans think. then we're joined by matt watts from the team called palace podcast. so i don't think it's unfair to say that many palace fans are unhappy with hodgson. how are you feeling? yeah, i mean, i didn't. really want to be in this position, to be honest with you, because we all love _ roy hodgson. he's done a fantasticjob i for the club over the years, | but ijust feel as though it has reached a point in the last few

weeks where change probably does need to be made. - he was brought in in pretty much exactly the same situation that you're in right now. he was the man to save you from relegation. i think you were three points above the drop zone when you sacked vierea last march. so why is he now not the right man in this situation? yeah, it's a really interesting one. i and i think it's something that| people outside the football club maybe wouldn't understand, - because if we were to make a change, l you look at it and you think, well, l you want someone like roy hodgson. but unfortunately this season hasn't | been particularly good, the football| hasn't been very good. and then in recent weeks there's been a couple - of particularly alarming results. | i think you would kind of associate | them with being very hard to break down, you know, grinding out results. that simply hasn't been the case. so i do feel that fan base hasl turned and i think we all know that it's very rare that - managers kind of come back from that sort of position. so just how close are palace to relegation then, and what does

the future, short and long—term look like for them? we can speak to a man who scored more than 100 goals in two spells at selhurst park, clinton morrison, so clinton, have you noticed a difference in palace of late? have you noticed a drop off? yeah, it's been a big drop off. the results haven't been good enough, performance have been all right. i know they've had a lot of injuries to key players, but it's been nowhere near good enough. i don't think the fans are happy, obviously. they're definitely not happy with the chairman at the moment and maybe it's time to get on roy hodgson's back a little bit, but crystal palace are where crystal palace should be, i think. i don't think they have money like the top teams in the premier league, so it's always going to be a struggle. but i can understand the fans frustration with not spending enough money. do you think they lack ambition off and on the pitch with their playing style as well? oh, that's a difficult one, because, listen, when patrick vieira was there, there was a style of play he was trying to play out from the back. for me personally, i didn't want patrick vieira to leave.

i could see there was good progress being made. and then roy hodgson came in and he kind of got the best out of players. and you know what it's like with roy. it's going to be like defending your numbers and play on the counterattack. and when they had someone like wilfried zaha, what really only said palace would will be all right, but it's going to be a struggle i think at least maybe in this report it might be out for a couple of months. on coming back for the last month of the season, which is a huge, huge blow. so as a he should be back sooner rather than later. then they lost my game. i don't know how long mark is going to be out for. he limped off against brighton, conceding too many goals at the moment. so ijust think they've got enough. i think there's three worst teams at palace this season. palace versus chelsea, then palace have a dreadful record against chelsea, i think 12 straight defeats now 12 games without a clean sheet as well. do you give them a chance? there's always a chance. i think we know the inconsistency that that chelsea have. cup competition. yes, getting results butjust

as you think they're going to turn a corner they're not and this chelsea side and the young players that they have can obviously be susceptible to a poor performance and result. crystal palace will try and obviously get organised, be hard to beat. they haven't got that flair with the players missing and that organisation levels are going to be key and that's where roy hodgson comes right into his sort of top a game. for chelsea, the last two performances in the league have been well below par. those defeats against wolves and liverpool conceding plenty of goals. but that villa performance in the fa cup on wednesday, how much of a difference can that make? i think it's a big reminder again of the talent that's in the building. the pressure was on, had to go and get a result. and people, people looking at from the outset saying they're quite soft and got no real sort of grit and determination about them and then they proved they can go and get aston villa side as well. they were flying high, so it was a real psychologically big performance from them and i think now they have to build on it. but we've said it this season already and they keep falling behind. as always, thank you.

with the showers turning to longer spells of rain, breezy at times, but it will be mild, particularly through the middle part of the week. this has been the story today. we've had some nuisance rainjust clinging onto the far east coast of scotland and northeast england. some brighter spells and a few scattered showers out to the west. now, those showers will continue to feed in across west—facing coasts overnight. but with some clearer skies, temperatures are likely to fall away. it's going to be a chilly start to our monday morning. low single figures for many, perhaps in rural parts of scotland, below freezing, a touch of ice not out of the question where we've got those lingering showers. low pressure dominates the scene as we move into monday, the wind direction coming from a northwesterly, slightly fresher source and that's going to continue to drive in plenty of showers closest to that area of low. so northern ireland, scotland, perhaps northwest england as well. and some of the showers to the tops of the mountains once again could be wintry in nature. but there will be some sunshine elsewhere and those temperatures are likely to peak between six and ten degrees. as we go through monday

evening and into tuesday, we've got this little ridge of high pressure keeping things quiet. but all the time this weather front is approaching from the southwest, that is going to gradually spill in more cloud ahead of it. so after a bright start, clouding over. a few scattered showers in the far northwest, more persistent showery rain develops across the channel islands, south west england, wales and eventually into the midlands, north west england and northern ireland by the end of the afternoon. 7 to 11, our overall highs. so as we move out of tuesday into wednesday, it's here where the showers potentially could merge to longer spells of rain as it stays pretty unsettled. the wind direction there coming from a south—westerly, so a very mild direction and that is going to just push that milder air further north across the country. so it does mean that we could see temperatures perhaps into the mid—teens as we go through the middle part of the week. but it stays pretty unsettled for many of us.
