as the former f1 champion talks to the bbc on his future moves within the sport's. moves within the sport. hello there and welcome along to the programme. we begin in the premier league where two goals from conor gallagher helped chelsea come from behind to beat struggling crystal palace 3—1 at selhurst park. mauricio pochettino*s side couldn't muster a shot until the 45th minutes as palace looked to frustrate their opponents and pick up a much needed win to ease the pressure on manager roy hodgson. palace took the lead throuthefferson lerma, but chelsea continued to push. gallagher equalised and secured the win in stoppage time with a neat first time finish for his second before enzo fernandez added a third with seconds remaining.

i think two different sides i see in the first half. i think we were so flat, very disappointed with the performance the second half, much better and very pleased how we finished the game. so happy with the serve and then the three point, massive win. i think that is our challenge to be consistent in every single game. but this type of victory, i think, help us to build our confidence. i'm not concerned that we're going to be relegated. and i think the way the players showed tonight and the way they played tonight and the quality that we've got to come back to that i don't think we have to be too concerned about relegation, although we are aware that we're in a relegation fight. so we're not complacent about it at all. but i believe in the team, i believe in the players, and i believe they'll pull us through. it finished goalless between bottom side almeria and athletic bilbao in la liga. the result, though, proving to be a landmark for the home side, albeit one they'd ratherforget. the draw means they set the record for the longest winless run in la liga history. almeria stay at the foot

of the table on just seven points after 2a matches. bilbao missed the chance to break into the top four. and there was a shock defeat forjuventus in italy's seria on monday as lautaro giamatti's first half goal was enough for strugglers udinese to win one nil in turin, they move three points clear of the relegation zone to 15th, whilejuventus are now seven points adrift of inter milan at the top of the table. three weeks ago, a shock, 4—0 defeat to equatorial guinea left the hosts ivory coast on the brink of an early exit from the africa cup of nations. they even sacked their manager mid tournament on sunday, though they were crowned champions after beating nigeria two one in the final. and this is the reaction in abidjan on monday. tens of thousands taking to the streets to celebrate ivory coast's first afcon title since 2015, and third in total for the first tournament host to win the nations cup. since egypt lifted the trophy in 2006, ivory coast spent more than $1 billion
12:48 am
on hosting the tournament. the government saying it's investing a similar amount on improving infrastructure in the country. now tributes have been pouring in from the world of athletics following the sad news that kelvin kipton, the marathon record holder, has been killed in a car accident. the 24—year—old kenyan is said to have been with his coach, who also died in the crash on a road in western kenya where there's a training base for long distance runners. it comes just five days after the world governing body world athletics ratified victim's record time kipton*s record time from his win at the chicago marathon last october. he smashed the world record by more than half a minutes, running it in a time of two hours and 35 seconds. he also won the london marathon last year. bbc africa reporter celestine carone has more. kelvin ran his first marathon in 2022. he won it in two hours, one minute and 35 seconds, and barely a year later, he had broken the world
12:49 am
record, running in two hours and 35 seconds. breaking a world record takes years of practice, takes years of of build—up. someone like eliud kipchoge, it took him more than a decade just to break the marathon world record, starting the from the track and then coming on into into into the road. so it tells you how talented and how special he was. fernando alonso says he has no advice for lewis hamilton but reckons his move to ferrari after next season could turn the italian team into championship contenders. alonso, the two time world champion who's 42 years old, hasn't ruled out interest in what will be a spare seat at mercedes. he says his priority is aston martin going into this preseason and ahead of their new car launch. he's been speaking to ben croucher. how excited are you then for the new season? the new car? yeah.
12:50 am
i mean, it is always very exciting time of the year when you discover the new car and you drive it for the first time and you have the first feelings. this is going to be very, very competitive. there are a lot of teams in contention for the podiums until you put the car on track and you see all the competitors and how fast everyone is. you cannot be 100% confident. we did everything we could, so let's see if it's enough or not. now, many are still reeling from the news that lewis hamilton will bejoining ferrari for the 2025 season. there's somebody who has made that jump and that leap. there's somebody who has made thatjump and that leap. what advice would you would you give to lewis in that situation? no advice. i cannot give any advice. he knows the reasons. he knows why he took that decision. and we wish all him good
12:51 am
luck because we want the best for for our mates and our colleagues when they take such decisions, but we don't spend much time. what situation do you think is going into? think he's going into? what did you make of that move and that decision? i don't know. he will have his own reasons for for that, which is more a question for him, i think from the outside definitely was a bit of a surprise because he was linked with mercedes for for such a long time. and there were a sense of of loyalty between both of them, you know, to finish the career together. and yeah, it was a surprise. but the reasons behind who knows. there's a quite an interesting seat available on the grid for 2025. lots of people have already been linking you with that. is that something you would consider? wound i think the sequence will be first, decide if i want to keep racing.
12:52 am
second will be asked on talk and decisions. and then if all those things didn't succeed, i will. didn't succeed, i will, i will look what is available. but i know there are only three world champions on the grid. two of them are just committed to teams racing ferrari and max in red bull. so i have also that that looks rated i can choose. if we speaking again in december. what does a successful season look like for you and for aston martin? i think at least as last year, i won't always if possible, improving the previous season. so we have some some high standards to meet this year. obviously podiums and very competitive season i will love to fight regularly for points for podiums and and dreaming of the first win in green you know the first win
12:53 am
for this brand will be very special. hopefully i can witness that i can be behind that will when when that happens. and we will try hard. fernando alonso there. now we've seen celebrations following that dramatic overtime super bowl win for the kansas city chiefs. it would have further inspired hopefuls of playing in the showpiece event, including former rugby union player louis rees—zammit. the wales and gloucester wing shocked the rugby world last month when he announced he'd be leaving the sport to pursue a career in the nfljust weeks before the start of the six nations. he's since moved to florida and started on a ten week programme with big ambitions ahead, as he's been telling adam samuel. i had to sit down with my family and go through everything with them. and itjust came to me that it wasjust the right time in terms of age. i think if i did this
12:54 am
in a couple of years, it would be too late for me and i wouldn't be able to pick up the game as quick as other people. but i think now*s the perfect time for me to give this a go. and i love challenging myself. so, i mean, why not? why not do it now? how was your transition from rugby to american football being? what have been the easiest aspects of that and the most difficult? i think training isjust completely different. you're using different muscles that you wouldn't use in rugby. the soreness is different. i thinkjust in general because it's a ten week camp and i'm having to learn the sport in ten weeks. i think it's just so intense and you know, it's something different and i'm actually loving it. i'd probably say the most challenging thing is probably how much got to learn. i mean, the classroom stuff is is full on. and as i said earlier, i'm actually loving just learning a completely different sport. louis rees—zammit talking to adam samuel there, and that is just about it from us. you can, of course, get all the latest sports news, including the latest on that chelsea win over crystal palace over on the bbc sport website
12:55 am
at the usual place bbc.com, or from our app as well the bbc sports app. but that is just about it for me and the team here on sports day. thanks very much indeed for watching. we'll see you again next time. hello. we had a sunny start to the week, but tuesday is going to be very different for many of us — extensive cloud, outbreaks of rain and drizzle — but it is going to be relatively mild, and indeed, this is the outlook for the next few days. now, let's have a look at the big picture across our neck of the woods. weather systems gently streaming in from the south—west and the jet stream is generallyjust to the south of us. so the air hasn't been all that mild over the uk, but in the next few days we will see these warmer air masses streaming in almost from the subtropics. so temperatures are expected to rise — of course, not to subtropical values,
12:56 am
but it will be milder. anyway, here's the early morning forecast, then. some wintry showers in scotland, pretty chilly as well with a touch of frost in the highlands. and then the further south you are, the less cold it'll be in the morning. so around, say, 5—6 celsius in the south of england. tuesday's weather map shows this weather front approaching. it's a warm front, so behind it we've got that warmer air streaming in pretty much from the azores. and that means extensive cloud across many parts of south—western britain initially. then that weather front will basically move sort of north and eastwards through the course of the day. outbreaks of rain will come and go. almost impossible to say at what time — it's just going to be a pretty overcast and dreary day across the bulk of the uk, apart from scotland here. in fact, some sunshine and a little bit colder. and then into wednesday it looks as though that weather front will move a little bit further north into scotland. so yes, clouds will increase eventually later in the day on wednesday in southern scotland, eventually the lowlands, too. but to the south itjust stays cloudy, rainy.
12:57 am
you can see the winds are coming in out of the south—west, not particularly strong, but noticeable on coasts. and look at these temperatures, up to 14 degrees in yorkshire, still a little bit colder the other side of the weather front in scotland and the northern isles. you can see that slightly colder air there just in the north of the uk. and then the outlook — so this is really for the rest of the week into the weekend and even into next week. it's a general trend here for these milder air masses to sweep in off the atlantic. so pretty stable temperatures, maybe as high as 16 but generally around 13—14 celsius. in the south of the country, closer to single figures — around average in the north of the uk. bye— bye.
