time for a look at the weather. his darren bett. we have high temperatures, the highest temperatures in england and wales. temperatures have reached 17 degrees in worcestershire and also in suffolk and it's even 15 degrees in suffolk and it's even 15 degrees in bradford and also in manchester. it's not quite as warm as that in northern ireland, but it's turning drier and it's still very mild here. temperatures picking up across southern parts of scotland but it's been a bit of a struggle across more northern areas of scotland. quite a different picture here in aberdeenshire from earlier on where we've got misty, foggy weather and some rain around. that's the radar picture over the past few hours. it's drying off in northern ireland. we have rain developing across wales and west in england. that's going to be heavy in the south—west and the

rain will push its way steadily eastwards overnight. as it does so the raynal tend to ease and by the end of the night we'll be in some clearer spells and some showers in the north and west. tonight won't be quite as warm as it was last night but not far off. it will be a very mild starts still as we head into friday and we are all in the same boat. there will be some sunny spells and many places will be dry. a few showers coming into northern scotland, wall or two further south heading over the irish sea into england and wales. more sunshine in more southern parts of england and fairly gentle breezes too. whilst it's not as mild as today, temperatures still above average, 12 in the central belt of scotland, 1a in the central belt of scotland, 1a in the central belt of scotland, 1a in the south—east of england. if we look to the west there are weather fronts going to be heading our way this weekend. the first one dies away. this is the main feature that will push eastwards over the weekend but ahead of that slight ridge of high pressure, so it's looking dry. there may be a lot of cloud left over and there will be a few spots of rain in these western areas ahead

that the club are set to sack him. hodgson, who's 76, took charge of his 200th match at the club, in monday's home defeat to chelsea. palace are nowjust five points above the relegation zone but have won just three of their last 19 matches. former frankfurt boss oliver glassner is said strong favourite to take over. supporters have displayed banners in recent weeks — calling for hodgson to be sacked and shared their frustration with how the club is being run. manchester united have approached newcastle sporting director dan ashworth aboutjoining the club. ashworth has a long—standing relationship with ineos head of sport sir dave brailsford, that dates back to ashworth's time with the english football association. talks over compensation are yet to take place between the two premier league clubs. it's understood ashworth is keen to move to old trafford, following fa approval of sirjim ratcliffe's proposed bid to buy a minority stake in the club. mbappe's former france team—mate — goalkeeper hugo lloris — has been introduced at his

don't ever want to stop playing. now, he is one of the biggest names in world rugby — and this weekend, sam burgess, makes his long awaited return to english rugby league as the new head coach of warrington wolves. burgess is one of the big talking points ahead of the new super league season, which begins with the hull derby this evening. adam wild reports. he was once the most talked about player on the planet. sam burgess is the man to deliver. but now the conversation has turned to coaching. sam burgess — warrington wolves boss. i've actually found it quite natural. i've enjoyed the challenges it's thrown at me, watching players grow individually and then the team knit together. so yeah, i really, really enjoyed it. the sam burgess story is already the stuff of legend. and young, burgess 17 years of age,. a precociously talented teenager,

incredibly one of four professional rugby league playing brothers, all of whom took their talent down under. the south sydney rabbitohs, owned by russell crowe, was where sam excelled. he captained his country, playing alongside his brothers. his, theirs, is a rugby league dynasty that may never be matched. but warrington, they've always had high hopes and now with a new superstar coach, could he be the inspiration to match that aspiration? well, they've already had the perspiration. sam's victory on tv show sas australia, leading to the preseason military boot camp. yeah, three days we did. cold, wet, miserable. as you can imagine. sam said it'll not make you a better rugby player, but it will make you a better team mate. and i think we got better at that. i think when the look back on it, you might see the reasoning for it, but whilst they're in the middle

of it, they didn't quite enjoy it. but if it helps it a small bit then it was worth it. but a few sore heads at the end of it. still amidst the highs, it's a career that's overcome plenty. the burgess brothers lost their father, also a rugby league player, at a young age to motor neurone disease. much more recently, issues in sam burgess's private life have made both front and back pages. i think i've been through some really tough times growing up, as a player, as a retired player and as a coach, i'll probably go through some things. but personally, i've grown as a human being since all that. overall, i think it'll make me a better coach. in a twist of sporting fate, the coach that gave him his chance as a player almost 20 years ago will also be the coach he comes up against in his first game in charge. when he was 17 and was a young adolescent trying to turn into a man, he was going through sort of things with his with his family, with his father's illness. and to see a young man cope with that situation,

the data shows. but what about other countries in the g7? well, lack of growth has been a challenge for many of the world's leading advanced economies over the past six months, but not in the united states. if we take a look at the us — it has seen the strongest and most consistent growth throughout the year. with a growth of 1.2% in the third quarter — that's july to september 2023 — and then it grew by 0.8% in the fourth quarter — that's october to december 2023. in canada — there's been a slight dip in the third quarter. down by 0.3%, but then plus 0.3% in the fourth quarter. in italy, there has been weak growth with 0.1% in the third quarter, and very slight increase of 0.2% in the fourth quarter. france — it remains flat with 0% in both the third and fourth quarters. japan, like the uk, is in a technical recession, which is down by 0.8% in the third quarter and down by 0.1% in the fourth quarter.

and last of all, but not least, germany — which shrinks by 0% in the third quarter, and then by 0.3% in the fourth quarter. the uk chancellor, jeremy hunt, has been speaking about these figures and says you can't have long term healthy growth with high inflation. let's have a listen. we always expected growth to be weaker while we prioritised tackling inflation, and that means higher interest rates, and that is the right thing to do because you cannot have long—term, healthy growth with high inflation. but also for families, when there is a cost of living crisis, when the cost of their weekly shop is going up, their energy bills are much higher, it is the right thing to do. the underlying picture here is an economy that is more resilient than most people predicted, inflation is coming down, real wages have been going up now for six months. and if we stick to our guns, independent forecasters say that by the early summer we could start to see interest rates falling,

and that will be a very important relief for families with mortgages. the shadow chancellor rachel reeves has blamed the prime minister personally for the uk economy falling into recession, saying it was "rishi s recession". speaking earlier, she said this. at the moment the uk has the highest inflation in the g7 and only the uk and japan, i think, are likely to have gone into recession at the end of last year. so i don't buy this argument that you need to have a recession to get inflation down. other countries are doing an awful lot better at controlling inflation whilst also managing to grow their economy. i spoke to economist vicky pryce and she gave us her assessment on rachel reeves' speech. vicky pryce and she gave us her
