charities had gotten involved, well. charities had gotten involved, as it is believed that abdul ezedi was from afghanistan. it's been a long manhunt. hundreds of police officers have been involved, and of course, they say, again that they thank all the hundreds of members of the public who called with information during the hunt and that the public support for the investigation has been overwhelming. again, i want to bring you an update on that breaking news. detectives that have been leading the hunt for abdul ezedi, the man who was wanted for a brutal attack on a mother and her children which at the time was being described as an alkalide of some sort, his body has now been recovered, at least it is believed to have been recovered from the thames after a long search. as you
11:46 am
might expect, after having been in the water for this long, investigators have explained that it may take some time to identify that body and that right now what they are basing this on as the clothes that he was wearing and that it isn't possible to identify him based on his fingerprints. what you are looking at right now are some of the last images that we had of him caught on cctv. that is chelsea bridge in london. that is what investigators were basing some of their assumptions on. and given that they could not find him on cctv cameras after that evening, i believe that was a wednesday night, they assumed that he may have jumped into the thames or that something had occurred and therefore his body needed to be recovered. again, i am going to tell you that statement from the police. you can see the
11:47 am
search there. they say "as you may expect after a considerable period of time and the strong current of the thames, formal identification is not possible visually nor from fingerprints." they said they would work with the coroner on working with other ways to complete the formal identification process such as dna testing as well as dental records. that breaking news we are bringing you is obviously about the body potentially having been found that it is worth also reminding you that it is worth also reminding you that there has been an update on the health and condition of his victim, the young mother who is in hospital. they have said that her condition has improved. she was sedated for days and there was concern that she could lose sight in one eye. they have said that her condition has improved and that she is no longer sedated. however, even to this day
11:48 am
after these few weeks she hasn't been able to speak to the police. she wasn't able to cooperate with their investigation because in the police officer's words, she was too poorly. so instead they relied on speaking to her young children. that means that instead they are now hoping they can get and glean some information from the mother who is now no longer sedated. but they do say they haven't spoken to her yet. but that isn't good news in of her own health and her own condition and she does remain in hospital but the police have said that she is in stable condition. again, it's that breaking news that after a long hunt for abdul ezedi, the man who has been wanted for a brutal attack on a mother and her young children in clapham after that long hunt for
11:49 am
him, the hours of cctv footage combed through and the search you can see right now, the search in the thames, they believe his body has been recovered. again, that statement from the commander was not based on the distinctive clothing he was wearing at the time of the attack and property found on his body, they strongly believe that it is in fact his body. it is worth also reminding you that when they were combing through the cctv footage there were a lot of questions about why it was taking so long, given abdul shakoor ezedi had a strong mark on the right side of his face. it seemed to be an injury that police had said at the time needed urgent medical care, and if left untreated, could have proven fatal. that's why they were also relying on hospitals to report if he were to come in at any point during this long manhunt. but again, after
11:50 am
reviewing that footage of cctv on places like chelsea bridge and realising that the leads were running dry, that's when they started to search the thames thinking there was a chance that the body was to be recovered there. it sounds like right now they think that could be the case because they have now issued this statement that they believe his body has been found. again, it was found, according to detectives, at around four o'clock on monday 19th of february. the passing boat crew said they had seen the body in the water and it was then recovered by the met*s police marine unit and is being investigated by police working on the case and it is believed by his clothing that it is him. the police have said they strongly believe it is. they said although
11:51 am
this is breaking news that they have believe they have found abdul shakoor ezedi's body, long period of time will pass before we can bring you the official confirmation from the police because of the time he spent in the thames. and of course it has been weeks now and that's why they believe there may not be any evidence they can glean from the fingerprints so it will take quite a bit of time. i believe we will have a correspondent coming up with us soon. do we have chouly now? i believe we are going to go back to charlie rose now. charlie, can you hear me all right? i charlie rose now. charlie, can you hear me all right?— hear me all right? i can hear you. -- charlie- _ hear me all right? i can hear you. -- charlie. obviously _ hear me all right? i can hear you. -- charlie. obviously this - hear me all right? i can hear you. -- charlie. obviously this is - hear me all right? i can hear you. -- charlie. obviously this is big i -- charlie. obviously this is big news that _ -- charlie. obviously this is big news that we _ -- charlie. obviously this is big news that we have _ -- charlie. obviously this is big news that we have been - -- charlie. obviously this is big | news that we have been waiting -- charlie. obviously this is big - news that we have been waiting for four weeks, could you bring us up to date? yes, abdul shakoor ezedi went missing on 31st of january. the search for him began on 31st of

january after that brutal attack on a mother and her two young children in clapham in a residential street in clapham in a residential street in clapham, 31—year—old mother and her two young children aged three and eight. a corrosive substance, they were doused in corrosive substance, an alkali substance and police launched a nationwide manhunt involving the metropolitan police, of course, the british transport police and northumbria police because he had links to newcastle. he was then tracked using cctv all across london. his movements coming down from newcastle in the early hours of wednesday morning and then throughout london making his way as the suspect in this attack to clapham and then he was seen tracked on cctv leaving clapham in his last movements which were tracked and
11:53 am
seen to be on chelsea bridge in london in the late hours of wednesday 31st of january. police couldn't track him down. they offered a reward of up to £20,000 for any information leading to his arrest and they were scouring hours and hours of cctv. it was a huge nationwide manhunt. eventually they worked out that abdul shokoor ezedi, an asylum seeker, who managed to successfully asylum in the uk after two failed attempts, believed to have come to the uk via a lorry across the channel, he was last seen on cctv on chelsea bridge at about 11:30pm on the evening of the attack. he was seen pacing up—and—down chelsea bridge and then there was no evidence to suggest that he had left chelsea bridge. so the theory that detectives were
11:54 am
working on was that he fell from the bridge into the river thames and then they launched a large—scale river search. that river search began on the 9th of february, and of course it is now the 20th of february and they have discovered a body. this body, police say, was found on monday, yesterday, about a mile or so downstream from chelsea bridge near tower pier. they say they believe this is the body of abdul shokoor ezedi because clothes were found on the body, distinctive clothing that they have matched to the description they have and the cctv pictures and information they have of abdul shokoor ezedi. in the past few moments the metropolitan police have issued a statement. they say the body was recovered by the metropolitan police's policing unit and has been viewed by detectives

working on the investigation. commanderjohn savill has been giving updates to the media throughout this investigation since that brutal attack using a corrosive substance in clapham. he said based on the distinctive clothing, abdul shokoor ezedi was wearing at the time of the attack and property found on his body, the metropolitan police strongly believe we have recovered the body of abdul shokoor ezedi. we have been in contact with this family, they say, to pass on the news. it goes on to say, this statement, as you may expect, after a considerable period of time in the strong current of the thames, formal identification is not possible visually, nor is it possible from fingerprints. the statement says, police will work closely with the coroner on other ways to complete formal identification such as dna testing and dental records. this may take some time, police say. this is what appears to be the conclusion of a massive police investigation into

the weather front to producing the rain. as it sinks south, more cloud will build ahead of it and behind it we will see a return to bright sunny intervals and some showers. in scotland the showers are likely to be heavy with some hail and thunder and wintry on higher ground. it's going to be a mild day across the board and also a breezy one. as we head through the evening and overnight the weather front six south as a weakening feature but if you remember it curls around and thenit you remember it curls around and then it returns back northwards and eastwards bringing some heavy rain with it, particularly in the north and the west. here, too, strengthening winds with gales developing through the irish sea. but for most it's going to be mild except for where we have the clear skies in the northeast where it will be colder. tomorrow this heavy rain continues to push northwards and eastwards. it's going to be a windy day where ever you are, gusting widely, a0 mph or in excess of that, with gales across the very far north with gales across the very far north with scotland. then you can see the weather front comes back once again into the south—west. these black circles represent the strength of

the wind gusts. but still it's going to be a mild day. seven in lerwick to be a mild day. seven in lerwick to about 13 as we push further south. it changes from thursday as we start to change the wind direction to more of a westerly or north—westerly pulling in the cooler atlantic air. so this whether front here is going to continue to push steadily eastwards as we go through the course of the day. it will be quite slow and the rain will be heavy. then we see wintry showers coming into the west. for most they will be above a00 metres, 500 metres in the south—west, and in between we are looking at some brighter skies. but note the cooler weather sinking south. we continue with the cool theme as we head through the weekend, closer to average temperatures and it will be wet and windy at times.
