welcome along. the england captain, harry kane, helped save bayern munich's season with two goals in their champions league last 16 second leg against lazio. 3—0 it finished on the night, 3—1 on aggregate as bayern — who are way off the pace in the bundesliga — booked their spot in a european quarterfinal. vicki sparks reports. harry kane the hero once again for bayern as they look to avoid a first trophy—less season since 2012. out of the german cup, ten points adrift in the bundesliga, everything realistically hangs on europe. and kane's brace ensures that dream endures. his first, a header, came at a key time, just before the break, and shortly after, lazio*s captain had missed a glorious chance himself. thomas muller not at home on the stroke of half—time before kane wrapped things up the second half with his 33rd

goal in 33 games this season. he has been as brilliant as bayern have been bad, and keeps his own hopes of winning the first major trophy of his career alive. in the other champions league tie, kylian mbappe scored a brace as paris st—germain cruised into the last eight with a 4—1 aggregate win over real sociedad. the frenchman's been used sparingly after announcing that he's leaving the club at the end of the season. he was even substituted at half—time in the goalless draw with monaco last week, but it was all smiles in spain as psg move a step closer to lifting the trophy for the very first time. manchester city play fc copenhagen in the champions league on wednesday, and erling haaland insists he's happy at the club, but says "you never know what the future holds." the norwegian*s contracted until 2027, but real madrid are thought to be long—term admirers. haaland has scored 80 goals in 84 appearances for city, including 28 this season. if i say this now, it's probably going to be a massive headline tomorrow. you never know what

the future brings. so...but, again, iam happy. and you can write this, but you can also have to write everything i said right before. i'm happy and, yeah, that's what i want to do. england women's manager sarina wiegman says their qualifying draw for next year's euros is tough, but really exciting. as they bid to retain their title in switzerland, they're in a group with france and sweden, ranked third and fifth in the world, as well as the republic of ireland. the world champions spain will face denmark, belgium and the czech republic. the top two teams in league a groups automatically qualify, while the third and fourth—placed nations will go into the play—offs. along with the 12 best—ranked teams in league b, scotland will be expected to take one of those spots — they're ranked higher than all the other sides in theirgroup. northern ireland will take on malta for the first time and wales are the highest—ranked side in theirgroup. qualifying begins in april. former world number one simona halep has had her four—year ban for doping reduced to nine months

by the court of arbitration for sport. the two—time grand slam winner tested positive for an anti—anaemia drug two years ago. having feared her career was over, the 32—year—old can now return to the sport immediately. our tennis correspondent russel fuller has more. this is a significant victory for simona halep in that the original independent tribunal ruled that she was guilty of intentional doping, whereas the court of arbitration for sport has determined that it was the result of a contaminated supplement that she took ahead of the us open of 2022. they say that she did not exercise sufficient care or attention, but that she is not guilty of significant fault or negligence, and that's why the ban has been reduced from our years to nine months, and she is free to continue her career with immediate effect. other charges relating to abnormalities in halep*s athlete biological passport have also been dismissed. it leaves us to wonder how two independent tribunals could come up with two

very, very different verdicts. we'll have to wait for more details in the weeks to come. as for halep, she has released a statement via her lawyers to say that her "faith in the process has been tested "by the scandalous accusations that were levelled against me, "and by the seemingly unlimited resources that "were aligned against me." jonny bairstow says he's set for an "emotional week" as he'll become only the 17th man to reach 100 tests for england when he faces india in the fifth and final test in dharamshala. bairstow will reach the landmark 12 years after making his debut against the west indies. he follows ben stokes to a century of england caps after he achieved that in the third test. india already have an unassailable 3—1 lead in the series. as a young kid, i think every young kid that sets out on a journey playing professional cricket wants to try and play 100 test matches. and i think you look back to 2012, and i made my debut at lord's, then 12 years later,

if you'd have said that you are going to be playing 100 test matches, you'd snap your hand off for one, but also be pinching yourself as well. promoter eddie hearn believes heavyweight anthonyjoshua will stop francis ngannou when the pairfight in saudi arabia on friday. ngannou, the former ufc heavyweight champion, controversially lost to tyson fury by split decision in october, but hearn knows that he poses a huge threat. for him, hejust wants to fight. you know, the work's done. he's in an unbelievable place physically, mentally. you know, we've been here so many times before. and really, all that matters is what happens on friday night. and we know the challenge in front of us, on every single level, ajay is better. but this is the heavyweight division, this guy can punch, this guy is dangerous, got to stay composed, be aggressive and you gotta take this guy out. one of the things that makes ngannou such a threat is his belief in himself. like, really, he should be petrified of fighting
3:51 am
anthonyjoshua, like, he doesn't have the experience in the ring. but i thought he beat tyson fury, i mean, he dropped him, we know he can punch, and you'd expect him to improve. ngannou's got the respect. like, either way you look at it, he either beat tyson fury, it was a draw, or he lost by a round. i mean, tyson fury is supposed to be the best heavyweight in the world. so this guy already has the respect of the boxing world. but we gotta do what we do best in boxing, and that's deal with people and challenges like this, and the danger is there, but the cream should rise to the top on friday night. i think anthony will stop him. i think he'll get to him. but, again, i've got a feeling this guy's got a granite chin as well. so he's gonna have to hit him hard and often and be smart in there, but i see him getting him out of there inside the distance. the formula 1 academy season gets under way this weekend. the all—female driving series, which is now in its second year, is another pathway for women to get into motorsport. bianca bustamante finished seventh last year, and has now become mclaren*s first female development driver. emily brown went to speak to her at the british team's headquarters.
3:52 am
just 19 years old, and bianca bustamante has already made history — the first female driver tojoin mclaren*s development programme. it's an incredible opportunity, but at the same time, you know, like, quite a pressure that i put to myself. the development programme creates a potential talent pipeline for their formula 1 team. i want to be the best driver in general, female, male, and i think that's the beauty of racing. you know, you're able to compete with the best of the best drivers, and mclaren*s helping me to be one of those. so, yeah, i'm very thankful for that. 20% of the current formula 1 grid began their careers with mclaren, including lewis hamilton and lando norris. cheering and applause originally from the philippines, her inspiration came from her dad, who's been a long—time driver and carting enthusiast. the other thing that my dad and i could bond, you know, around was actually racing. you know, he taught me how to drive before he even taught me how to walk! he worked threejobs just so he could sustain

for the family and to allow me to achieve these dreams and to fight for it. everybody knows that racing is reserved for people with money, and it often has been. and see that sport diversify, that's really what i'm racing for is just to show that it doesn't really matter where you come from, even when you're across the other part of the world, you're still able make it. cheering and applause she began herjourney in the inaugural season of the f1 academy where she caught the eyes of mclaren*s development team. she's also caught the eyes of fans on social media — over1 million of them to be precise. being a girl, it is factual that it is a disadvantage, not having, you know, that muscle at a higher level starting point compared to men. and so that means i would always need to work ten times harder than everyone else. i'm working out pretty much every day, so hopefully it's all worth it! my end goal is still to be in formula 1.

it's been decades since there was a woman who had a seat in formula 1. how close do you think are we to that day, to seeing a woman in a formula 1 car? we're incredibly closer, each and every day. we're here and we deserve to be here, and it doesn't matter if we wear make—up or we have long hair or we have coloured nails, you know, doesn't make any single difference, you know, and i've always tried to be a feminine in a male—dominated sport, and i love doing my make—up before i get in the car, and i do that as a status symbol, as, you know, a stand that i'm a woman and i'm fast. i love to see the paddock grow with a lot more women in it. i mean, we've got female engineers, female strategists, female mechanics, then it's beautiful to see. don't forget — you can get all the latest sports news from the bbc sport website and ourapp, including news on our top story as well that harry kane, the england captain, is double for bayern munich against lazia has secured their place in a

champions league quarterfinal. much more of that on our website and the bbc sport app as well. but from me, will perry, and the rest of the bbc sport team, bye for now. goodnight. hello there. we could see more sunshine around for wednesday than what we had on tuesday, particularly across eastern areas. so i think a brighter afternoon to come, but there will be some scattered showers around, especially across england and wales, and winds will generally stay quite light. we'll have high pressure anchored over scandinavia, low pressure out in the atlantic, trying to push this weather front ever closer towards our shores, but it could reach the west country as we move through the latter parts of this morning. elsewhere, we're starting off with a lot of cloud across the east of the country. that will tend to melt away, though. it stays cloudy for eastern

scotland, northeast england. some sunshine for east anglia and the southeast, a few showers into the afternoon, east wales and the midlands, and temperature—wise, up to around 10—11 degrees, single digits along the north sea coasts, where we have the cloud and the breeze. now, as we head through wednesday night, it looks like it stays dry for many. the showers fade away. we start to see some cloud rolling to central and eastern areas, so where we have the cloud, more of a breeze, temperatures 2—5. under clearer skies further north and west, there could be a touch of frost. for thursday, then, we have low pressure anchored out towards the west and the southwest, that area of high pressure over scandinavia just edging a bit further westward, so influencing our weather more. could start to see an east, southeasterly wind picking up further, though, so quite a breezy day to come. plenty of sunshine around away from the east coast and there will be some afternoon showers again, particularly england and wales. probably the best of the sunshine, western scotland into northern ireland, western wales — top temperatures again, 11, maybe 12 degrees. into friday, you see more isobars on the charts. it's going to be windier, a strong east—southeasterly wind. that'll take the edge

off the temperatures, push in some cloud to northern and eastern areas, particularly the northern half of the country. england and wales could at this stage see quite a bit of sunshine, but there'll always be showers loitering close to the southwest. and a windy day to come for all — gusty winds, particularly windy across the south and the east thanks to that southeasterly wind. so, chillier along eastern coastal areas, up to around 11 or 12 further west. into the weekend, low pressure loiters to the southwest of the country, trying to push its way northwards, so it will introduce further showers or even longer spells of rain for southern and western areas. we could start to see a few showers developing further north and east as well. it will remain quite windy, with our wind coming in from the east or the southeast. that's it for me. take care.
