like the golden globes and others, which are usually predictors for the oscars, they went back and forth in winning that category. some critics in the united states were expecting it to be a toss—up, it could go either way and emma stone was the one who ended up beating out lily gladstone for her portrayal in poor things. let's talk aboutjimmy kimmel he was hosting again this year, second year in a row, how did he go down? i saw he hit back at donald trump during it, for a post he had made? you know, he did hit back at donald trump, which is not surprising. jimmy kimmel, if you ever watch him, he also has some jabs for the former president. during the show he called out the former president for a post he put on truth social that read in part, has there ever been a worse host than

peaky blinders brought him to a wide audience, but discotheque and 28 days later when he broke through. and to step up to the lead role of a film of the scale, to smash it out of the park the way he did with that performance, it is fantastic. the whole of ireland is very proud of him this morning. absolutely, let's talk about christopher nolan. he has a body of work behind him but this is his first 0scar? yes, so many of his films were science—fiction all superhero movies. the oscars tend to overlook genre films, theyjust do. it is telling that out of all the films he was made, he was only nominated for dunkirk, another war movie. but now he gets the win with oppenheimer. it is testament to the reputation he has built up with all of those films along the way. he also spoke to the journalists afterwards and this is what he had to say.

it means i can do roles that are very heavy. i it is such a thrill to be - recognised as by my peers, the nomination itself- from the directing branch of the academy, it is very, - very special to me, as was winning the directors guild awards, - for the film to win best picture is a testament to so many different people who were involved in the i film, an incredible cast and crew. it was definitely oppenheimer's night, but the one we've a talking about with los angeles is emma stone winning best actress? yes, i thought there was a scenario where lily gladstone with take that because there was so much excitement over the first native american person to be nominated. but emma stone's performance in before things and does matter is astonishing. she plays a character having the mind of a baby,

the mind of a toddler, to be a fully grown a fully realised human being. she does that in two hours and it is a technical achievement. she is delightful as a person and she is well liked and well loved in la. it was a surprise a little bit, but not what you would call a shock. if you haven't seen the film, give us a brief synopsis because it is quite weird? it is very weird. it is almost like a frankenstein story. she is a reborn, created human in this fully adult body when we meet her, who has to go on an adventure and grow up. she's created by a frankenstein figure played by willem defoe and she has a relationship with his character. it is almost fantastical, almost alice in wonderland alike. it is no surprise it also won production design, costume and hair. looks astonishing, it is a deconstructed kind of victorian era film. let's take a quick look at the clip.
