with these financial rules rather than as the fan mention, what is happening on the pitch. i spoke to a former chief executive of everton saying, a leak exists and excels on its sporting integrity. he says, when you have a table that for many people will have asterisks next to certain teams come the end of the season, that that does a lot of damage to the integrity of that leak. he says the premier league is in crisis and called on the hierarchy of the leak to come forward and explain to fans, why these rules are in place and to help fans understand them. but i think this leaves a very complex and probably situation where you have a club's feet decided by lawyers in a boardroom as opposed to players on a pitch. of course you have the possibility that forest could appeal this four—point deduction. we are expecting that they will. we have

there's been so much reaction across social media to dame laura's retirement. another 2012 olympic champion jessica ennis—hill says, "you are such a legend, always will be and you will continue inspiring! enjoy this next chapter." four—time tour de france winner chris froome — "congratulations on a spectacular career laura!" and mark cavendish, "absolute legend mate. congratulations doesn't even seem enough to say about what you've achieved. thank you for everything you have done for british sport." and fellow dame, paralympic great sarah storey wrote, "utterly brilliant from start to finish, so proud to have raced with you." and we've spoken to british rowing great katherine grainger, who saw kenny overtake her olympic record of 5 medals. i don't know where you start with her achievements, what she has done, it has never been done before. that shows just how sensational and

unique and incredible of an achievement she has done year after year. it's notjust the metals and titles that we will all remember and celebrate, but how she has done it. the sort of person she is. she has never changed and has always been fun and has had a incredibly down—to—earth attitude about it. and made it feel that this is something other people could aspire to do and be. i think that is one of her enduring legacies, is the incredible standard she said, but she actually brought so many people into her sport in general because of the way she did it. she has been so influential and inspirationalfor mothers who have come back who still want to be in sport but having children and a family but managing to balance so much. so the way she talks about following passion and still being the personal is an inspiration.— still being the personal is an inspiration. over this error of metals and — inspiration. over this error of metals and success -

a group of senior players on the pga tour have been meeting with officials from saudi arabia's public investment fund, the pif, that bankrolls the breakway liv golf series. merger talks have taken place between the parties that could see an end to the rift in the sport that has lasted for the past two years i think it should have happened months ago. so i am glad it is happening and hopefully that progresses conversations and gets us closer to a solution. i see the two entities and i think there is a big disconnect between pif and liv. you have my car went over here and liv are out doing their own thing. so the closer we can get to pif and finalising that investment, i think that will be really good.
6:46 pm
those talks are taking place in florida, the players championship was held at sawgrass, and our golf co—respondent iain carter spoke to me about the meeting. i think this is a potentially significant development, the fact that the governor of the saudi arabia public investment fund is being given time to speak to the player representatives on the pga tour's policy board. you heard rory mcelroy welcoming the development, no longer on that board. we spoke to patrick, one of the influential voices there saying that he felt it was going to be very much a listening exercise. he did not expect anything substantive to come out of the initial meeting, but if this is the first step towards some kind of saudi investment in the pga tour and potentially somewhere down the road, some kind of unification, some kind of peace deal if you would
6:47 pm
like in the wars that have been set the golfing environment over the last few years. this is potentially a significant moment in the saga. so many bridges have been burned up the best part of two years. it was only last summer that the pga tour players themselves felt a bit broadsided by the news of the possibility of a merger. this was one of the _ possibility of a merger. this was one of the key — possibility of a merger. this was one of the key issues, _ possibility of a merger. this was one of the key issues, the i one of the key issues, the announcement injune of last year, of a framework agreement with the saudi arabia public investment fund blindsided the players. they did not see that coming and as part of the fallout from that, they have been giving greater representation and indeed the majority hand on the policy board of the pga tour. so anything that is negotiated by the management of the tour has to be ratified by the players. that is why this meeting is so important.
6:48 pm
because the governor of pif will be trying to get this influential player voices on his side from a position whereby it was outright hostility in some quarters to the notion that a deal would be done with saudi arabia, given the extent of the about turn of the announcement injune of last year. there can be no simplistic solution when you consider what has gone on in the past, but it is the crux of it as rory mcilroy pointed out before the player championship which you have been bringing us common tree on, the fact that the best players are simply not playing against each other for most tournaments during the year outside of the majors. the tournaments during the year outside of the majors-— of the ma'ors. the only time they come of the majors. the only time they come together — of the majors. the only time they come together at _ of the majors. the only time they come together at the _ of the majors. the only time they come together at the majors. i of the majors. the only time they j come together at the majors. the first on the men's calendar is next month at the masters. we had to set a players championship which was a fantastic event won by the world number one, but i hesitate to say, asterisk, but the fact of the matter
6:49 pm
is that neither the masters champion northern us pga champion were there becausejohn rammed the masters winner and the winner of the pga championship now compete on the liv tour and suspended from the pga tour. certainly there is a big feeling within the management of the main tour is that they need these big players back on side, but how you achieve that position, given that they have taken money from saudi arabia and turned their back on the rank and file tour members is the crux of the conflict that is going on at the moment. so i think the overall aim from this meeting would be to set up a process whereby, those gaps in position can be eventually bridged. england's women start their first series of the year at midnight.
