hello and you are very welcome to the programme were ever you are in the world. we start with a huge day at the bottom of the premier league — where nottingham forest have dropped into the relegation zone after breaking the division's profit and sustainability rules. their punishment comes after the club admitted losses last season that breached the threshold by {34.5 million, but that might not be the end of the story as our sports news correspondent laura scott reports. frustration at the final whistle for nottingham forest after letting a lead slip against their relegation rivals. "points deduction, it's coming for you," the luton town fans sung. and they weren't wrong. two days on and forest were ruing another result as an independent commission found them guilty of breaching commission profit and sustainability rules by £34 million.

and docked them four points, plunging them into the bottom three below luton with nine games to play. last month, everton were docked six points for breaching the same rules, reduced from ten on appeal and face another possible point deduction this season. within this 50 page judgment, the premier league insisted that sporting sanctions are the only way to meaningfully disincentivise overspending by clubs. but the result is, a team's fate in the league could be determined by a lawyer's performance in a boardroom rather than players on a pitch. and that doesn't sit well with some. a league exists and excels on its sporting integrity and i think when you have table that may have two asterisks in it and possibly three at some stage, that is a big problem for sporting integrity. but it's been more than a year since champions manchester city were charged with more than 100 alleged rule breaches and forest fans aren't happy
3:47 am
that case is yet to be heard. it's just disgusting. and what about manchester city, what's happening to them? i just think they are going after the wrong people. they shouldn't be dishing out sanctions when man city - are able to win their treble titles over and over again. and we might get relegated. a furious forest have warned this decision threatens the competitiveness of the league at a time when the sustainability of the whole football pyramid is in the spotlight and the government is poised to intervene. laura scott, bbc news. well, forest now have seven days to decide if they're going to appeal against the decision — and former forest strikerjason lee says while the punishment is obviously damaging — it doesn't mean their season is over. we know now it is four points.

i think the results at the weekend could have been more beneficial to us if we had won the game. singers get deducted points will be favourable for them. it is not undoable. the club still has a situation where they can go and win enough games this season to stay in the premier league. the team have to rely or deal with what they can deal with as players and coaching staff and their legal team behind the scenes will have to deal with the legalities of trying to get points back. once you are in the premier league, newly promoted, you are at disadvantage. you have missed windows where other teams have recruited really good squads. it does take three or four windows for an established premier league team to build that team. so for forrest, second season,

we would need to go into a third season to feel comfortable with the squad. hours after forest's punishment was confirmed, it was announced that legislation to establish an independent regulator in the uk will be introduced to parliament on tuesday. the bill will grant powers to a standalone body — independent of both government and football authorities — to oversee the uk's national sport — and in turn, avoid football clubs suffering through financial mismanagement, such as with bury fc who were expelled from the english football league in 2019 because of rising debts. in turkey, fenerbahce say they will consider pulling out of the super lig after some of their players were attacked by trabzonspor supporters following their win on sunday. there was a pitch invasion at full—time and some visiting players were forced to defend themselves. they were given a hero's welcome on their return to istanbul after the victory that saw them move two points behind leaders galatassary. but the club now say that they will hold an extraordinary general meeting on april 2, when they will consider what action to take and that incudes withdrawing

from the super lig. inter milan defender francesco acerbi has been sent from italy's national team training camp following an allegation he racially abused napoli's juan jesus in sunday's serie a match. in close—up television images, juanjesus appeared to be telling the referee that acerbi used a racist slur. juanjesus also pointed at his shirt sleeve which had a *keep racism out* badge as part of the league's anti—racism campaign. acerbi has denied using any racial vocabulary. and staying in italy — lazio have named croatian igor tudor as their new manager. he replaces maurizio sarri who resigned on wednesday after a fifth defeat in six games. tudor spent last season with marseille, finishing third in ligue 1, and has managed udinese and hellas verona in serie a as well. for the first time in four olympic games,

laura kenny will not be a part of team gb*s cycling team. britain's most successful female olympian, laura kenny has retired at the age of 31. kenny has won five olympic golds and seven world championship titles and admits there was a lot of pressure in trying to reach paris this summer. with the qualification coming around you have to be qualified in the last opportunity is the end of april. i would have had to have competed by then and the pressure of that was making me be, wow, i do not want to do this. i don't think there was a specific day. it's only been about ten days after i completely decided. it has been in my head for a little while and i thought that this was the right time for me. it is notjust the medals and the titles we will remember and celebrate but also how she has done it. it is the person she is, she has never changed, she has always been fine and headed down earth attitude about it. made it feel that this is something that other people could aspire to do and aspire to be and i think that

is one of her enduring legacies, the incredible standard she set and that she brought so many people into her sport and sport in general because of the way she did it. rory mcllroy has welcomed the meeting between the pga tour board and saudi arabia's public investment fund chairman in an effort to bridge the gap between the two entities. negotiations are continuing between the pga tour and the pif, which funds liv golf, about a potential merger. i think it should have happened months ago so i am glad that it is happening and hopefully that progresses conversations and gets us closer to a solution. see the entities and i think there is a big disconnect between liv and pif. so the closer that we can get to finalising that investment, i think that would be a really good thing. french president emmanuel macron says having russian

no exccesses or unacceptable comments are made in this context. we will be very vigilant on this point. i would like that because i think it is a message of peace, of international unity, of tolerance. it is a message that does not yield anything to our clear stands and to the fact that we want ukraine to recover its full sovereignty, its territorial integrity and that lasting peace returns to the country. and finally — this next sporting story is not for the faint hearted. have a look at the amazing skills and bravery on show here from frenchman victor de le rue — as he sealed his third fwt snowboard world title with a victory at the penultimate competition of the season in austria. it was his fourth victory of the season, who matched his elder brother xavier's collection of three freeride world tour snowboard titles. that is just amazing. i definitely would not be able to do that. you can get all the latest sports news at from the bbc sport app, orfrom our website but from me

and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye. hello. where the sun has put in an appearance over the last couple of days, we have felt some spring warmth. certainly, it has been a mild start to the week, but there is a change on the way. it will turn colder later in the week, and between now and then we have some spells of wind and rain to contend with — the wettest and windiest weather towards the north and the west of the uk. this chart shows the rainfall we are expecting to accumulate through the course of this week. you can see the green colours just showing up there, in western scotland, indicating more than 50mm of rain, and there is a bit of rain to take us through the first part of tuesday

along the line of this weather front. notice this front wriggles back out into the atlantic — another pulse of rain to come through tuesday night and into wednesday. but in the short term, the first piece of that weather front, if you like, lingering across parts of southeast england. some clouds, some spots of rain, and then that next pulse of wet weather pushes in across the southwest of england later on. but elsewhere, early cloud will break up to give some spells of sunshine, just the odd rogue shower and feeling very mild, even warm with highs of 17 celsius. but through tuesday night, here comes the rain, pushing its way northwards and eastwards. we might hold on to something a little bit drier and clearer towards the southeast corner and certainly up towards the northwest of scotland, where it will be cold to start wednesday morning. could even be some fog patches here, but mild further south and east. and for many, quite a soggy starts to wednesday. these outbreaks of rain just moving northwards and eastwards as the day wears on.

i think the skies will tend to brighten in many places. we will see some spells of sunshine developing, particularly towards the southeast of england, where it will feel very warm indeed at 17 celsius, but also for northern ireland and western scotland. here, though, a somewhat chillier feel to the weather. briefly, a ridge of high pressure will build, but that won't last long. we see this next weather system bringing wet and windy weather, particularly across the north of the uk during thursday. and as that clears for friday and into the weekend, well, the winds change direction and start to come down from the north, and that will make it feel significantly colder. temperatures on the thermometer lower than they have been, could even see some wintry showers over higher ground in the north. but factor in the strength of the wind, the wind chill is going to make it feel really very cold indeed. and those chillier conditions extend all the way south across the uk for the weekend.
