undergoing treatment for cancer. i just want to show you the front of the newspapers today which have all gone with the same picture, the picture taken from that video message issued yesterday by catherine, i am well and getting stronger every day, i will be ok. the messages taken from that statement, particularly talking about needing to tell the children and she has taken the time to make sure they are aware of what is going on. cancer came as a huge shock is the headline of the telegraph there. kate says you are not alone, an ending that only very personal tone as she sent that message to others who may facing treatment to, and kate reveals cancer shock as the headline on the daily mirror and it really was a shock right around the world for people getting used to that news as it was announced yesterday that not only catherine, princess of wales they sing their diagnosis but of course king charles too, herfather—in—law, and we have seen those messages of support from

latest from here in windsor and i will hand you back to the studio. thank you very much indeed, ben. another leading story we have here as bbc news is the attack that took place at the crocus concert hall in moscow on friday evening. we have been waiting to hear from vladimir putin and a short time ago, he had started speaking. this is the scene of the attack, the crocus hall, a concert hall, and a black section you can see there is a section that was damaged with the roof coming down. president putin is said the attackers tried to escape towards ukraine but has now confirmed that all of them have been found and detained. he addressed the russian people halfway through or towards the end of saturday itself, the attack took place on friday,
12:38 pm
thanking emergency services for their efforts and in terms of some of the special efforts we saw, helicopters being used to drop water onto the building and the roof and try to rescue some of those that were stuck on the roof trying to escape from the hall. mr putin also expressing deep condolences for those who have lost family members and also more than 140 he remain injured and at the moment we understand 115 people have died. security, he confirmed, has been tightened and we don't have more on whether it is within moscow or high venue sites, they had been that warning from the us of a possible attack and he has declared the 24th of march a day of mourning as well. just remember, he had, early on there had been ukraine that ukraine had somehow been involved in this, they denied it, and the us is also
12:39 pm
said ukraine had nothing to do with this. britain and booted coming on air a short this. britain and booted coming on aira short time this. britain and booted coming on air a short time ago saying that he alleges that they try to escape towards ukraine. —— president putin coming on air. there were 11 people arrested in all, four of whom we understand from the fsb were the attackers that were directly involved in that attack on friday night. he has also added that all those responsible will be punished and he calls the attack barbaric, it was a barbaric terrorist act, and whoever ordered this attack will be punished, he said. but he has confirmed that the immediate attackers have been found and detained. he added that our enemies will not divide as and sunday, just to remind you, will be a national day of mourning following that attack on the concert hall, and just
12:40 pm
double—checking very quickly, if you give me one moment to make sure i have all the facts correct here, that was him speaking a short time ago, yes, confirmation from president putin that all attackers were arrested and some were trying to flee to ukraine. 0f were arrested and some were trying to flee to ukraine. of course, we have no confirmation or verification of that but russia very much making this claim from the outset and in fact, from the time that the us and issued this warning back on the 7th of march, he had particularly those supporting the kremlin, and said they arejust trying supporting the kremlin, and said they are just trying to scare russia, pro—kremlin voices particularly saying that the us was trying to scare russians and the us warning that american citizens also should not be in areas where there
12:41 pm
are large gatherings and i did in factjust have a look at the latest advice coming from the us government saying avoid crowds, monitor local media for updates and be aware of your surroundings and they are monitoring the events closely so this reaction here from the us embassy in russia, the embassy is aware of reports of an ongoing terrorist incident at the crocus city hall near moscow and us citizens should avoid the area and follow instructions of local authorities. interestingly enough, we do learn here that movement within russia that seems to be very limited for us citizens. i willjust read this, the us government's ability to provide you teen or emergency services to us citizens in russia is severely limited, particularly in areas far from the
12:42 pm
embassy in moscow due to russian government limitations on us personnel and staffing and the ongoing suspension of operations including consular services including consular services including consulates in russia. at this time, us citizens are advised not to travel to russia. —— routine. it was back on the 7th of march that the initial warning was issued by the initial warning was issued by the united states and it can be found on the website. the embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target a large gatherings in moscow to include concerts and us citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours. that was on the seventh and that did indeed take place last night. that was much the 22nd, so amounted that president putin has spoken confirming all the attackers have been found and detained and he says they will be punished and sunday will be a national day of mourning,
12:43 pm
and making the allegation that the attackers were detained as they had tried to make their escape towards ukraine. —— march the 22nd. well, as part of the story, we have been looking at and monitoring the huge number of mobile phone pictures and videos from inside the concert hall. bbc verify has been looking at what they tell us. videos have been emerging on social media on the attack at a venue near moscow. at bbc verify, we have been analysing footage and putting together the unfolding events. people have been videoing the dramatic events inside the crocus city hall as gunman burst in and started shooting. one video we verified begins as people start leaving the hall, something appears to have gone very wrong. suddenly there is screaming and people running as gunshots rang out, someone can be heard shouting
12:44 pm
"close the door", others drop to the floor and hide behind the chairs as gunshots continue. it's difficult at this point to know how many people are involved in the incident but in this video we see a large number of people in the hall. in another video from inside the popular venue one man says, "they have set the hall on fire, "the hall is on fire." you can see what appears to be the beginning of a fire. another video zooms in on gunmen shooting indiscriminately. witnesses have said the shooting started inside the lobby. you can hear loud gunfire ringing out and see people crawling away on the floor. another video filmed on a balcony overlooking the lobby shows the gunmen shooting as they move further into the building. we have also seen another video with four gunmen. people are shooting and several people lying motionless on the floor. and we have verified videos
12:45 pm
of buildings on fire. this is clearly emerging as one of the most serious attacks in moscow in years. just going through some of the images we have from the concert hall from the attack. earlier i spoke to sergei markov, a political ally and former adviser to the russian president vladimir putin. it is a very strange attack. it is really much different from the traditional attack of radical islamists. usually, islamists take hostages, make some demands and demand also some negotiations. here it was absolutely another style. a few people just come there, kill about 100 people and left. and now four of them have been captured, nearby the border with ukraine. in russia it is more or less clear this terrorist attack had been organised not by radical islamists but from ukrainian territory.
12:46 pm
the question now, on what level the decision about a terrorist attack had been made in ukraine. either it's small, radical, neo—nazi groups on the ground level, either it's head of the military intelligence of ukraine, budanov, who has remained under suspicion, or volodymr zelensky himself took part in the decision. if the russian government was aware that there are terrorists operating in certain regions, why weren't they monitoring them? how is it that this attack managed to slip through and essentially kill russian citizens? isn't it down to the russian security system? let me answer. the us embassy publicly told there was possibility of an attack in moscow, around march the 8th, woman's day in russia, which is broadly celebrated.
12:47 pm
now information has come that this terrorist attack was planned on march ninth, in exactly the same concert hall where the concert was of a shaman singer and also who now a famous patriotic singer and who was public spokesman for vladimir putin during this election campaign. so, first of all the terrorist attack had been planned, it was march the ninth. but after this information, russian security made a lot of measures. two terrorist groups have been arrested. this terrorist attack which was planned on march the ninth had been postponed. but after it is impossible to have endlessly strong level of the security measures.
12:48 pm
after one week, ten days over, this terrorist attack had been conducted. sergei markov, former adviser to president vladimir putin speaking to me earlier. let's turn to the middle east now. the un secretary—general, antonio guterres, will renew his call for a humanitarian ceasefire in gaza during a visit to egypt today. he was on the border in rafah where hundreds of lorries are waiting to take aid into gaza and there is international pressure to allow them to take aid into the conclave among warnings of imminent famine.
12:49 pm
—— enclave. the first british field hospital has been set up in gaza, and is aiming to be fully functioning early next week. the hospital was sent by truck from manchester to provide life—saving medical treatment for the sick and injured in gaza. it has been established by a team from the aid organisation, uk med, which deploys many nhs staff to emergencies. uk med already has surgical teams working in the al aqsa hospital, the only hospital still functioning in the centre of the gaza strip. from jerusalem, our senior international correspondent 0rla guerin sent this report. wheeled through the chaos, 12—year—old anas, another young victim of israel's assault on gaza. he is on his way to surgery in al aqsa hospital, a team from uk med standing by. so, we got the patient with a femoral fracture. he is a very brave boy.
12:50 pm
so, let's go. anas says he was playing when his neighbourhood was bombed. he was injured and his mother and six—month—old baby brother were killed. "may god have mercy on their souls," he says. the surgery goes well. it is one of hundreds the team have done at the hospital, where they have been faced with desperate need and some of the worst war can do. i have worked on many war zones over the past nine years and at what shocks me about this particular context is the number of children injured that we are seeing, and the extent of the injuries. they are life—changing injuries
12:51 pm
the child will have to live with. with gaza overwhelmed and under israeli attack, the uk team have been building a new facility. it is in the desert sands north of rafah. they got started with local timber from destroyed buildings, when theirfield hospital was held up at the border. it took a lot of negotiation to get land and to get things across the border. it has been a challenge to find staff, a challenge to communicate, none of the phones work, the internet doesn't work, and everything somehow has to be made to work in order to bring essential, urgent, life—saving services to people. they are already seeing about 100 outpatients a day here, and they expect to double that soon. the doctors are ready to treat everything from minor illnesses to gunshot wounds. and if israel carries out a ground invasion of rafah, as it is threatening to do, this field hospital could be crucial. 0rla guerin, bbc news, jerusalem.
12:52 pm
to bring you an update on our developing story here, that is that the attack just outside developing story here, that is that the attackjust outside of moscow at the attackjust outside of moscow at the crocus hall, the concert hall, it has been reported by the reuters news agency that the islamic state have claimed responsibility and via one of their telegram channels, this is how they communicate publicly, they have released a photo of what they have released a photo of what they claim are the attackers behind they claim are the attackers behind the shooting and the attack on that's building that you can see on the screen, that charred, black building there, it was the main site of the attack. four attackers, we understand, 11 people arrested by russia's fsb and i willjust add that we have a bit more here. islamic state of course, again, by
