others, like china's "unfair trade policies" and preventing access to advanced us technology. and on the chinese side, president xi reportedly called us support for any taiwanese independence effort "a red "line" and accused the us of trying to suppress china's development of advanced technology. over four days of meetings, treasury secretary janet yellen is expected to meet with some china's top political and economic officials, as well as american business leaders and chinese professors and students. she is expected to warn china against flooding the market with cheap clean—energy exports, things like electric vehicles and lithium—ion batteries. the white house is trying to bolster that industry domestically by offering its own tax breaks and subsidies. let's get you up to speed quickly with an earthquake this morning in taiwan, because the well*s largest contract chip maker has told the bbc it has evacuated some of its facilities there.

largely fuelled by a boom in exports, but the south—east asian nation is facing difficulty after the president resigned last month, becoming the second leader to leave office in just 1a months. vietnam has been attracting record foreign investment, due to manufacturers diversifying away from china, although ties with beijing remain close, with vietnam's foreign minister arriving in the chinese capital today. fund manager at asia frontier capital says, despite the apparent political turmoil, vietnam remains very attractive to foreign investors. i think you need to understand that the president has resigned and it is the second president that has resigned in the last 1a to 15 months, like you mention, but having said that, firstly the president's position in vietnam is largely ceremonial. i don't believe he has a very important say in decision—making. furthermore, i think it is a very consensus—based decision—making in vietnam

and also in terms of the impact on foreign investments, this anti—corruption tract, things that have been happening with the government, it has been happening for almost two years now, and it hasn't really impacted foreign investments. in fact, foreign direct investments into vietnam in 2023 were about $20 billion, but has the company has seen, about 5% of gdp, the highest in the region. so far, i don't see it having an impact on vietnam's attractiveness as a foreign direct investment opportunity for many investors. which sectors are particularly doing well in vietnam? especially post—pandemic, geopolitical tensions between china and the us we have seen a host of manufacturing move from mainland china into vietnam. almost 70% of foreign direct investments into vietnam

the airline, which operates around 300 flights a day, issued a statement, saying they had reduced the number of flights temporarily to ensure adequate connectivity. they also said they had started using bigger aircraft to ensure the accommodation of more passengers. in that same statement they said they were trying to work hard to ensure the statement is stabilise soon. the official statement did not mention why vistara was having trouble finding its crew but they have been reports of late citing concerns about pilots and vistara about a revised salary structure ahead of the planned merger with air india. air india you would remember was once india's national carrier, sold to the tata group at two years ago as part of the indian government's divestment plans in order to privatise the airline and generate more funds, so export saved that could also be a factor. india's aviation regulator has stepped in,

asking for daily reports from vistara and asking that there are minimum inconveniences caused to the passengers and they should have a regrettable form to get refunds and reschedule their flights. just to give you a context, vistara is nine years old and is a joint venture between tata sons private limited and singapore airlines, which owns 49%. that is it for this edition of asia business report. i will be back at the same times tomorrow. goodbye for now.
