hello, and welcome to sportsday — i'm hugh ferris. here's what's coming up... arsenal beat manchester united to go back on top of the premier league with now just a week to go of the season. the men lose — but manchester united's women create history at wembley by winning the fa cup final. and novak djokovic has been knocked out of the italian open, with the world number one claiming it might have something to do with *that* bottle. hello again. after manchester city won for a seventh game in a row, arsenal did the same for a fifth time. and their premier league title battle goes into
12:46 am
the season's final week. arsenal are back on top after they beat manchester united 1—0 at old trafford. a game that ended in torrential rain began with a first half leandro trossard goal that proved to be the winner... and it was enough for arsenal to go a point clear of manchester city although they have played a game more... with city's match in hand against arsenal's north london rivals spurs on tuesday the players have a huge price, most of them they haven't been in this position. they don't know what it is and what is the stake and how you feel emotionally to go and having to win and win and win since december orjanuary, you know, and come to this place. they go to the spurs and play again, it's a phenomenal thing that they are doing right now, and we just have one of the most beautiful days ahead of us in front of our people, our families at the emirates and we hope we can do it. how will you watch tuesday,
12:47 am
i'm sure you will. i will watch it and tomorrow's game as well we always do, and we'll win it. disappointed and i want to win. it doesn't matter who is on the pitch, we have to win every game, and you have to give everything and you have to demand this to win games. so here's how the top of the table looks right now. if manchester city draw against spurs on tuesday, the two will enter the final game of the season level on points, and it's arsenal with the goal difference advantage. while manchester untied's defeat keeps them eighth and struggling to qualify for europe. so while manchester united's men lost, their women's team made history at wembley, winning their first piece of major silverware. they beat tottenham 4—0 to claim the women's fa cup for the first time. katie gornall was watching. many people expected it to be a little bit closer than it was. and in the end, it was it was very one sided. united obviously have experience of a final before they've got the big game
12:48 am
players for the big occasion. perhaps no one more so than ella toone, who scored an absolute screamer on the stroke of half time to give her side the lead. she scored for england in the euros final. she scored in the finallisma, too. she absolutely loves playing at wembley and that set her team on their way. rachel williams, who'd been a danger in the air all game, doubled united's lead and then spurs really did start to unravel after that. unfortunately for them, becky spencer, who's usually so reliable with her feet, made a mistake. that gifted united a third. and then lucia garcia, who was a fantastic all game, scored united's fourth it was brilliant it was brutal from them and it helped secure their first major piece of silverware. and i think after they've underwhelmed in the wsl, this really has saved their season, but also maybe provided a platform for them to go bigger onto bigger and better things and provide that
12:49 am
chance of a new era and a breakthrough. i wish i could play here every week, to be honest. no, i love it here. it's a home of football. it's what every young player dreams of playing at. and yeah, i've managed to do it a few times and get some good goals on it. but i love it and i love playing in front of the fans and having all my family and friends here as well. it meant a lot. german champions bayer leverkusen have stretched their season—long unbeaten run to 50 games after winning the penultimate match of their bundesliga campaign. they've already won the title and broken the european football record for most matches in a row without defeat in all competitions. but need to avoid being beaten in three more to win what's being called an invincible treble after thumping bochum 5—0. elsewhere, hoffenheim had an even bigger win to move into the european places. while bayern were without four key players through injury, including harry kane, for their victory over wolfsburg. after confirming his

departure from psg at the end of the season, kylian mbappe has played his final home match at the parc des princes. the club's fans were ready for the occasion, as was mbappe it seems, as it only took him eight minutes to score. but toulouse hadn't read the script and won 3—1. psg have already wrapped up a 12th ligue un title... with mbappe rumoured to bejoining real madrid for next season. if he does he'll be moving to the reigning spanish champions. and real have been parading the la liga trophy around madrid. it's their 36th league title. and they celebrated in madrid despite having four more league games to go. and a champions league final to look ahead to against borussia dortmund next month. it's the second time their boss carlo ancelotti has won the spanish title. rory mcilroy has won the wells fargo championship by five shots ahead of xander shauffele at quail hollow in north carolina. the northern irishman had started the day one shot behind the american, but produced two eagles — including this one at the 15th — and five birdies in a final round of 65, to win
12:51 am
the tournament for the fourth time in his career — his 26th pga title - and setting him up nicely for next week, and the second major of the year, the uspga at valhalla in kentucky. novak djokovic suffered a surprise, and heavy defeat at the italian open, but he's suggested that could be partly because he was accidentally struck on the head by a spectator*s bottle on friday. the world number one is apparently *concerned', and will need medical tests despite showing up to practice on saturday mocking the incident by wearing a bicycle helmet. djokovic was beaten 6—2 6—3 injust 67 minutes by chile's alejandro tabilo in rome. the six—time champion committing 22 unforced errors, serving five double faults and failing to create a single break point. yesterday was pretty fine. so i thought, you know, it's ok, but maybe these are ok. maybe it's not.
12:52 am
i mean, the way the way i felt on the court today was just completely from, it's like a different player entered in my shoes, you know, it's just no rhythm, no tempo, no balance whatsoever on any shot. so it's a bit concerning. in the women's draw, danielle collins booked her place in last 16 with a 6—3, 6—3 victory over caroline garcia. it's a career—best in rome for the american who has lostjust one of her last 18 matches. she will face irina—camelia begu in the next round. there was an exciting finale to this year's badminton horse trials, which had a particularly influential showjumping phase. the winner, new zealand's caroline powell achieved one of only two clear rounds, to move up from sixth place and clinch the biggest prize in eventing. lizzie greenwood—hughes was there for us. well, this has just been the most extraordinary badminton. it went right down to the wire. all three phases of this equestrian triathlon have been influential. and the showjumping, the final part was particularly so only to clear rounds, one of them by this
12:53 am
lady, caroline powell. now, caroline, no offence, but we didn't see that coming. how do you feel about having won badminton for the first time? well, we were a long way down and i was sort of wondering, you got a really thought. third, might might be, you know, we would end up. but to win, it was just amazing. she just is the most amazing year and i'm so proud of him. it's been a while since. how long ago did you win bali? how long ago was that? 0h, 2010, exactly. it's been a while since you've had a horse this good after the great lenimal. so what are you thinking now? i mean, is paris is around the corner. are you making a late bid to get on that kiwi team again? oh, i don't know. you know, she's still got to go home and be sound and have a holiday and come back into work and, you know, going to the olympics would be absolute amazing and also going to bali would be amazing. so whatever way she goes, we just want the best for her. so much pressure on your shoulders. so many riders still to go and it's done in reverse order, this final showjumping phase. so the last rider, potentially everyone after you could have
12:54 am
won that trophy and yet you managed to hold it together. what was going through your mind? well, we were lucky enough that year we were down in sixth. so the pressure is isn't as great as when you go under the lead. so, you know, for her to jump around, its well within the capabilities. and, you know, she came good for us today. well done caroline, you've won bali. now you've won badminton. you've done the two big ones. huge. congratulations. go and enjoy it. thank you very much. so caroline powell from new zealand, the winner of this year's badminton second place, went to an extraordinary young irish rider called lucy latta. she's not even full time. she's only got one horse. she came second. she could have won it if she'd gone clear. but sadly, she had a fence down and britain had third place with alexander brack. so it's been, as i say, an extraordinary badminton, very exciting, a little bit unusual in the lead up because of all the weather we've had, a lot of riders haven't maybe had the preparation they would have done. we normally would have maybe a briton in the second or third place. but caroline, as i say, for new zealand, is the winner here, this year's badminton.
12:55 am
and as far as the british rider's are concerned, paris is next. they will know who is selected to represent the country at the end ofjune. but that's it for me here at badminton. tom brady again translated success on the field to the water as the american football icon was there to watch his eq electric powerboat team win a second victory in as many races at the venice grand prix. despitejust missing out to team miami in qualifying — team brady secured the win in round two with pilots emma kimilainen and sam coleman taking home the win with 21 points. team brazil took a surprise second place from will smith's new westbrook racing team in third. team brady lead the standings with 41 points, 16 ahead of the chasing pack. you can get all the latest sports news at from the bbc sport app, orfrom our website — that's bbc.com/sport. from me and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye.

hello. there were definitely two sides to sunday's weather story. on the one hand, it was very warm. in fact, it looks like it was the warmest day of the year so far. temperatures touching 27 celsius to the west of london, but we saw some really intense downpours and thunderstorms breaking up, especially across western and northern parts of the uk, ushering in a change. low pressure taking charge of our weather through this week, which will bring rain at times, not least across the southwest of england, wales and northern ireland through monday. that rain arriving through the morning and then sticking in place right through into the afternoon. could be enough rain to give some localised flooding and travel disruption, — and under the cloud and rain not feeling particularly impressive — 15 or 16 degrees, but for a good part of scotland, central and eastern parts of england, we will hold on to some sunshine and some warmth, maybe 23 or 2a degrees. in fact, for some north sea coasts, it is likely to be warmer on monday afternoon than it was over the weekend. now, through monday nights, this band of rain will be
12:57 am
moving slowly, northwards and eastwards on what will be a very mild, even warm night, with temperatures holding up at between 9—11; degrees. so, we start tuesday with our area of low pressure still in place. this frontal system wraps around the low, continuing to drive some outbreaks of rain. this time, the rain bands sitting across the south east of england, east anglia, parts of the midlands, northern england, still some further rain to come across northern ireland, and then that rain pulling northwards across scotland. sunny spells and showers following on behind. temperatures broadly 17, 18 degrees, but still up to 20 in the north of scotland. those temperatures still a touch above the average for the time of year, just not as warm as it has been over the last few days. now, this is wednesday's forecast. still a weakening weather front likely to bring rain for a time in northern england. then it's a sunshine and showers day, and temperatures 17—20, maybe 21 degrees. now, our area of low pressure
12:58 am
will still be with us through the second half of the week, but it will tend to loosen its grip, the centre of the low, pulling away southward. so, while there will still be some showers, especially in southern parts, more in the way of dry weather, some spells of sunshine, actually will dry up for some of us as we head into the weekend. and those temperatures still a touch above normal for the time of year.
