it's a tricky question because the individuals, ifind that it's a tricky question because the individuals, i find that hard because it goes back so long, but it is the government that both the products, they failed to make the uk self—sufficient in its blood supplies. to then carry on administering those blood products and not recalling them, they played russian roulette with people's lives. they all know who they are and i'm sure the inquiry team will know who they are, as well. time will tell. some _ know who they are, as well. time will tell. some politicians - know who they are, as well. time will tell. some politicians appeared before here, as well.— before here, as well. absolutely. the all before here, as well. absolutely. they all know _ before here, as well. absolutely. they all know who _ before here, as well. absolutely. they all know who they _ before here, as well. absolutely. they all know who they are. - before here, as well. absolutely. they all know who they are. this| before here, as well. absolutely. i they all know who they are. this is a time of reckoning. itjust shows

that human life is more important than any amount of money and that needs to be the first and foremost decision and anything, and that is in any walk of life, whether in a large organisation, but you have to accept that example. they have to set the precedent and they have to set the precedent and they have to set the precedent and they have to set the standards for everyone to live their lives by, if they don't —— if they don't set that example for us what we all here for? is -- if they don't set that example for us what we all here for? is this a day closure _ for us what we all here for? is this a day closure for _ for us what we all here for? is this a day closure for you? _ for us what we all here for? is this a day closure for you? i _ for us what we all here for? is this a day closure for you? i really - a day closure for you? i really don't know _ a day closure for you? i really don't know. i'm _ a day closure for you? i really don't know. i'm overwhelmed a day closure for you? i really - don't know. i'm overwhelmed with all sorts of emotions. i feel my mother close to me, ifeel sorts of emotions. i feel my mother close to me, i feel her warmth, sorts of emotions. i feel my mother close to me, ifeel her warmth, her strength to stand here. i don't know what closure looks like. it is a long way off. my mum was infected and i was powerless to help her. i

was a trained soldier, trained to kill, i've been to war and i have just been left, not acknowledged to this point. i havejust had to muddle my way to life as best i can and i'm proud of what i've done, but it has changed me forever. it changed me in some good ways and in other ways i don't recognise myself sometimes. it has impacted my career, my friendships. my ability to make decisions and to trust, so closure for me is a long way off and i don't know what it looks like. i’m i don't know what it looks like. i'm sure our i don't know what it looks like. i'm sure your mum will be looking down on you incredibly proud of what you done, fighting for her calls. let's take a life to another news conference, the different campaign groups who are reacting to the report today. it

1:35 pm
lost my twin on christmas day, i lost two cousins within the last ten years, to france within the past two months. we have suffered in northern ireland and the production of this report as it now comes has been both healing and supportive. it recognises the injustices that have taken place, gives us an opportunity to address some of those and try to apply some of the positives that we will find on this, but with seven volumes and only having received two and an opportunity to tease through the remaining five volumes on my phone, it has been hard to find the answers for you at this stage. interestingly, the government have recognised this because of the statement today from the prime minister and minister glen's statements, compensation will be paid. that is not an answer to the problems we have, nor a solution,
1:36 pm
but it will help. the other aspect that has come out of this from me is that has come out of this from me is that while i feel a cascade of emotions, positive and negative, it indicates quite clearly that the government are culpable, successive governments are culpable of neglect, of abandonment and that unfortunately has been a culture which has also been adopted within the health service. a look at northern ireland's report specifically as i could see from that that it was evident that they followed suit from the leadership that was given in the uk mainland. i think all regional health departments date. our government in northern ireland was highlighted as having two problems and that is why i couldn't deal with the issues. on most security, because there was a big commitments on security, and the other issue was that we haven't had
1:37 pm
consisting government over a practical period of time. the assembly has risen fallen and risen and fallen. what they need to understand is they have to show leadership and all the regions. the one thing that seems to have been abandoned here is that that leadership and determination to identify the specific issues that impact on their communities have not taken place, so a culture change is required. candour is required and transparency, which will involve and engage the patients. i hope from this report other victim groups will be able to identify what must not happen to them and the lessons that are provided in this report will be listened to and learn by government, civil servants and the national health service. i civil servants and the national health service.— civil servants and the national health service. . . . , health service. i am joyce donnelly and i represent _ health service. i am joyce donnelly and i represent the _ health service. i am joyce donnelly and i represent the scottish - and i represent the scottish infected blood forum. when this

1:40 pm
put on public record that these things had happened. there was testing without consent on children and previously untreated patients were given concentrates when they shouldn't have been, and that —— that led to many more cases of infection than needed to be. it is very upsetting for people because many of the facts we have known for a long time, but the states in black—and—white is particularly hard for our group to come to terms with. can you give me a sense of how victims and families will be feeling reading the reports, and is this the moment that you and they were hoping for, and if there is anything else you might be looking for going forward, for example, criminal
1:41 pm
charges? figs forward, for example, criminal charaes? r ., forward, for example, criminal charaes? . , . . , forward, for example, criminal charaes? a . . , ., charges? as regard victims and families, charges? as regard victims and families. we — charges? as regard victims and families, we have _ charges? as regard victims and families, we have had - charges? as regard victims and families, we have had limited i families, we have had limited viewing of the report because we have been on a coach for four hours, so it has been very difficult. i suppose they now feel that they are believed because it is something that people have been saying for so many years, and that in the large part is how we got the public inquiry. it is all the campaigning done by people before us who are no longer here, so we felt it was our duty to carry on the campaign because we knew the truth. we have had a lot more revealed by the inquiry. there is a feeling of closure. the difficulty is that nobody can bring back the people who have been lost, and that is the heartbreaking thing about it. when people are now learning that this could have been avoided when we have always been told it was unavoidable
1:42 pm
that troubles people immensely. i think our other issue is because there is no trust in government, even though we know that rishi sunak will apologise this afternoon and an announcement tomorrow, once the announcement tomorrow, once the announcement comes tomorrow on compensation, we don't know the details of that and we have great concerns about that because it will be an arms length body that the government with will have set up all the rules and regulations, regarding eligibility criteria and appeals, and i think the difficulty now is sir brian's recommendations may be overruled by government or ignored and that is a real worry for people, that we may still have to keep fighting after 40 years of fighting. so many people have lost their lives yet we still have to continue. i think people are reticent because they have seen what had happened
1:43 pm
previously with governments, with the way that the history has been rewritten, that nothing had happened that shouldn't have happened, so i feel that the apology is important that the next stage of our compensation, that is bothering a lot of people, because they feel they want recognition. the government _ they want recognition. the government have - they want recognition. the government have invested taxpayers money _ government have invested taxpayers money to _ government have invested taxpayers money to the tune of 135 million in this public— money to the tune of 135 million in this public inquiry, which has been going _ this public inquiry, which has been going on— this public inquiry, which has been going on since 2017 up to today. quite _ going on since 2017 up to today. quite clearly that investment from our perspective hasn't been foolishly spent, but in order to ensure — foolishly spent, but in order to ensure and reassure our community there _ ensure and reassure our community there needs _ ensure and reassure our community there needs to be more thanjust words _ there needs to be more thanjust words from the government and not looking _ words from the government and not looking unfairly towards them, at choreography towards an election, so
