hello and welcome to sportsday. i'm marc edwards. a record breaking win for england as they dispatch oman at the t20 world cup. all eyes on munich, the countdown is on for scotland's euro 2024 opener against hosts germany. breathing a sigh of relief — key defenderjohn stones is back in training for gareth southgate*s england squad.
12:46 am
hello and thank you forjoining us. england needed a big win over oman to stay in the t20 world cup — and they certainly got it. in fact it was a record breaking day forjos buttler*s team with the largest win in the competition's history in terms of balls remaining. adil rashid took four wickets as they bowled out oman for 47 — the fourth lowest total in the t20 world cup. mark wood and joffa archer contributing with three wickets apiece. england set about their target with gusto — and they made it injust 19 balls — however, they do need another big win over namibia on saturday — and even then it may not be enough to take them through, with scotland also in contention for second spot in the table. but they can celebrate for now. the netherlands may have lost their match against bangladesh but there was a stunning catch by sybrand engelbrecht — the dutchman diving to grab it. shakib al hasan made an unbeaten 64 from 46 balls to guide bangladesh to 159, before rishad hossain took three wickets as the netherlands fell 25 runs short.

let's turn our attention to the euros now and the opening match draws ever closer. scotland take on germany in munich on friday — and the scots have been talking about the confidence in the squad, and how the prospect of becoming the first scotland side to reach the knockout stages of a major competition is "driving them forward". jane dougall was in munich to hearfrom head coach steve clarke and liverpool defender andy robertson. they both, very interestingly said that there was an edge to their last training session this morning because they knew that it was going to be the last one. afterwards, they then travelled from garmisch—partenkirchen up here to munich. they've started to settle in, of course, in preparation for tomorrow. and thousands of fans you might have seen them have been waiting for them here in munich. they've pretty much taken over the central square in the city centre. i asked andy robertson
12:48 am
how he felt about that. we'll hearfrom him in a moment. but most importantly, the scotland manager, steve clarke, said that everybody was fully fit, flying and raring to go. we know it's a big game, but for us it's the opening game. 1a section, three matches. we know what we have to do to qualify this section, and that's all we are focused on. the enormity of the opening game and whoever, that's a little bit of a sideshow and hopefully we don't get too involved in that. one of the mantras i've always had is respect everyone and fear no one. so we come here with a lot of respect for the host nation. we know they're a good team. but hopefully on the night we can show that we're a good team as well. we were at the square earlier with all the fans and they'd pretty much taken over the centre of munich. how does it feel that so many of them have come out here to support
12:49 am
you in the team? it's amazing. you know, obviously, we see all the we see all the videos. we see, you know, everyone in into munich and the numbers and, you know, the so many of them, we hope they enjoy themselves over the next ten, 11 days because, you know, if we can perform that we can perform, we'll give them plenty to show about. and if we can do that, then hopefully they can stay in germany that little bit longer. steve clarke said that when the draw was made, a lot of people were trying to talk germany down, saying that scotland were going to be playing them at the right time. he said at the time of the draw he knew that it was going to be a tough match and he said today nothing has happened to make him change his mind about that. robertson was asked about germany, too. he said it was no secret that germany were going to dominate possession. and of course he namechecked toni cross, one of the best midfielders, if not the best midfielder in the world. he said that they would just have to try to keep the ball and try to frustrate germany as much as possible. and again, he reiterated something that many people within the scotland camp have been saying. the pressure will be on germany because this is their home match in their home tournament
12:50 am
and it's the very first one. t hey fight for every ball. they fight for every ball. i think as i mentioned, . they made a great journey from a team who play a lot of long balls and go - in the second ball and try. to fight for the second ball and then play in the final third to a team who can. create chances and ball possession as well. - it's not only a team who can fight for a second ball- and the ball's not always up in the air~ _ they are brilliant in both. possession moments, very good in the final third, i they play a lot of crosses. so they try to do, try _ to create some stressy moments for the defence. now, one of the most poignant things that steve clarke said was that he was proud he was proud that his team were here, proud that his team are going to be playing in this match tomorrow. and he said all the fans should be proud. and he also told them that hopefully they can achieve something even more special

in regards to scottish football. jane dougall there in munich for us. for england, their tournament doesn't get going until sunday — when they face serbia for their opener. gareth southgate*s side will be favourites to progress, but won't be taking things lightly against a team with several players from the top leagues across europe. alex howell is with the england squad, as they build up to that match. so yesterday when we watched training, john stones wasn't there because he had a sickness bug. so all eyes were on the training pitch when the players came out to see if he was part of the squad that were going to take part in the session. and he was there, which is a big boost to gareth southgate because that is one of the talking points coming into this england squad. who is going to partner john stones at centre back. as well as the debate around the centre back position there is, in midfield, there's a space there and who is going to play alongsidejude bellingham and declan rice and one of the players who could play there we spoke to today and that's chelsea midfielder conor gallagher and he spoke to us about what he thinks he could bring to the team. i'll always give my best for

the team on and off the ball. i work as hard as possible. i'm a good team player, but yeah, i'm willing to do whatever the manager wants me to do. if it's starting a game, if it's coming off from the bench, if it's watching from the crowd, i'll be i'll be happy and do the bestjob i can. now thatjohn stones is back in training, that leaves just two players who have slight fitness doubts over them in luke shaw and bukayo saka. but there are still a couple of days before gareth southgate has to name his first starting 11 for the game against serbia in gelsenkirchen on sunday. the 2016 champions portugal have arrived in germany, ahead of their opener against the czech republic on tuesday. captain cristiano ronaldo and the rest of the squad was greeted by hundreds of fans at their team hotel in marienfeld. this will be ronaldo's sixth euros — and at the age of 39, he's still in fantastic form, scoring 10 goals in their qualifying campaign, and two in their friendly win over the republic of ireland this week. staying in germany, less than two weeks ago borussia dortmund were champions league

finalists, now they are looking for a new boss... edin terzic asked the club to terminate his contract after three and a half years in charge. dortmund finished fifth in the bundesliga last season. terzic says he feels that the club's new era should begin with a new man on the touchline. ac milan have appointed paulo fonseca as their new head coach. the 19—time italian champions sacked stefano pioli after they finished second behind inter last season. fonseca left french side lille earlier this month. with the penultimate grand slam of the year just a few weeks away, wimbledon have announced that there will be a record £50 million of total prize money for the competition. it's £5.3 million higher than last year and has doubled from a decade ago. the tournament organisers keen to stress the importance of increasing the pot across the board. when the championships is it's been so successful we have good revenues.

so it was right to reward the players by nearly 15% and the winner getting 2.7 million this year. one thing we've always done, though, is look at the whole draw because we're very conscious that those players, as we refer to on the left hand side of the draw, rely very much on grand slam revenue for travel, for coaching. so therefore, we very much look at that as well, which is why we've increased that to 60,000 this year. and of course, the wheelchairs, which is close to my heart, having seen the wheelchair athletes perform at the paralympic games all those years ago, to be able to give £1,000,000 for the wheelchair events is fantastic. emma raducanu's preparations for wimbledon continue, the 2021 us open winner breezing into the quarterfinals of the nottingham open. she made light work of ukrainian daria snigur, dropping just four games in a straight sets victory. that's back—to—back wins for raducanu for the third time this year. but cameron norrie is out, after a shock defeat in the second round to fellow—briton jack

pinningtonjones. norrie only dropped one game in the opening set but pinningtonjones, who is ranked 773 in the world storming back to beat the former wimbledon semi finalist. rafa nadal has confirmed he won't be playing at wimbledon. the two—time former champion said he was saddended to miss the championships but he wanted to focus on his preparations for the olympics in paris, where he will aim for a second singles gold medal, and pair up with carlos alcaraz in the doubles — a title nadal has also won, back in 2016. you can get more build up to the start of euro 2024 and the latest news from the us open golf on the bbc sport website and app, but from me and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye.

hello there. just starting off with confirmation of probably what you already know. so far this month, it has been cold, temperatures running about two degrees celsius below average. and i suppose on thursday, a case in point, we had a lot of cloud around outbreaks of rain and quite widely temperatures of around four or five degrees below average for the time of year. one exception, northern scotland, where we had some sunny skies and also temperatures were a bit above average, but otherwise it was a disappointing day on thursday, thanks to this area of cloud and rain, an area of low pressure. an area of low pressure that you're going to get really quite bored with over the next few days because it will still be on our charts through friday, through saturday, through sunday, and it's still there even into monday. so we're looking at a stuck weather pattern with
12:57 am
loads of showers around. now, looking at the weather picture friday morning, we start off on a mild note, probably a bit of sunshine for eastern areas to start off with and dry weather. showers get going from the west from the word go and the showers become really extensive through the day, some of them heavy with hail and thunder. more general outbreaks of rain for northern scotland, particularly in the morning, where it's also going to be windy and cold, temperatures around 12 or 13 degrees here. otherwise, temperatures staying well below average, in any case, around 15 to 18 degrees for most of us. now through friday evening, there will be some further showers coming and going, particularly across western areas. might have some more general outbreaks of rain here by the end of friday night and the start of saturday morning. saturday, the same area of low pressure is with us, probably something a bit brighterfor a time across western scotland, but some heavy rain for eastern scotland. the winds picking up across southern counties of england with gusts running into the 45 miles an hour. that's going to make it feel a little on the cool side as well. and if that weren't enough through the afternoon, there'll be loads of showers around again, some of them heavy with hail and thunder.
12:58 am
across the board our temperatures below average forjune. little change really through sunday. this time, though, it looks like we could see some heavier bursts of rain working across northern ireland into northern england and scotland. thundery showers developing elsewhere with some sunny spells in between so it won't be raining all day across the midlands, wales, east anglia, southern england. but the temperatures for most areas continue to run a little below average for the time of year. however, for a couple of days next week, it looks like temperatures will get closer to average, but it doesn't last long. it turns cooler later in the week. showers never far away.
