10:15 am
live from london, this is bbc news. let's get all the action now from the euros. the defending champions italy had a hard—earned 2—1victory over albania. the albanians caused an early shock, making a bit of history by scoring the fastest ever goal in the tournament's history, just 23 seconds into the game. the underdogs had only scored one major tournament goal before saturday. italy were quick to equalise ten minutes later, and followed it up shortly after with a second goal. spain made thier mark with an impressive 3—0 win over croatia in berlin, while switzerland beat hungary 3—1 in cologne. england here will be taking on serbia in gelsenkirchen. we are nsn, close to gelsenkirchen, a lot of
10:16 am
serbia and england fans have been staying here with a limited number of hotels are available in gelsenkirchen. are at gathering in the square behind me, a lot of fans will be gathering here to watch the game later. there is a big screen over my shoulder. two fan parks the area, one for the serbian fans and one for the england fans travelling without tickets, but some will be in the stadium later. england will start the tournament as one of the favourites, they lost to italy in the last tournament on penalties but with some of the very talented players that they manager karen southgate has at its disposal, no wonder that will start as one of the favourites. but he has said himself thatis favourites. but he has said himself that is sent to my will have to be exceptional but the message to the fans has been to enjoy themselves and for those ready here, they've been doing that.
10:17 am
we'll top the group. then we'll just fly through the tournament and just win it, it'll be great. it's happening, it's coming home. it's coming home! football's coming home! wahey! # sweet caroline...#. we're definitely going to win. win the game against serbia, it's our toughest game but i think we'll win it. we've been here two days and it's been brilliant. the best thing ever! are england going to win the euros? 0h, definitely! definitely! when you know, you know. and that's why we got on the plane, because we know it's coming home. j we know we're going to win it. we know it's going to happen. the fans certainly think they're going to win, england is one of the favourites, how much pressure does that put gareth southgate and the team under?— that put gareth southgate and the team under? ~ ~ ., ~ ., team under? when you know, you know and those fans — team under? when you know, you know and those fans clearly _ team under? when you know, you know and those fans clearly know. _ team under? when you know, you know and those fans clearly know. the - and those fans clearly know. the belief they have as a consequence of the result is that england have produced at recent major tournaments. and performances as well. the final of the last euros and the quarterfinals of the last world cup. there is pressure whereas
10:18 am
previously england arrived at major tournaments with hope, now it is expectation and it does bring pressure. gareth southgate is all too aware of that is, not least his future has been a topic of conversation in the lead up to this tournament, not least because he suggested he may leave his role as england manager were england not to win the tournament this year. that's an indication of where his head is at. the fa will decide if he is replaced at the end of the tournament and have said they want him to carry on come what may. the players that look relaxed and are revelling in the outer because there is a genuine belief that they can win this tournament. it's been a very long time since england have managed to win a men's major tournament. you have to go back to the world cup of 1966. the fans and the world cup of 1966. the fans and

10:26 am
particularly across parts of england and wales where we had heavy showers around yesterday. there will be some sunshine, still a few showers on the cards. it will be cloudier with a bit of rain across parts of scotland and northern ireland at times, as well, because we're closer to the center of low pressure here. we've got a couple of fronts just pushing their way south, so that is pushing that cloud and patchy rain across central and southern scotland into northern ireland through the latter part of the morning. elsewhere across england and wales, we're looking at some sunshine and a few showers. they will be most frequent for north—east england, the east midlands down towards the south—east. i think mostly dry out towards the west. lighter winds here than yesterday. still quite breezy for the western isles. that northerly breeze pushing down towards northern ireland, as well. we're looking at the mid—teens in the north, 13 to 16 degrees. 17 to 20 further south. we've got high levels of uv for some of us in between those showers, particularly for southern parts of england and wales. for some of us, some very high levels of pollen today. the pollen count is on the rise, in fact, over the next couple of days. now into this evening and tonight, we've still got quite a lot
10:27 am
of cloud in the north. it pushes a little bit further south. this weak front overnight brings a little bit of patchy rain to wales, central parts of england. some clear skies to the south of that, so temperatures six or seven degrees here, but i think most of us about nine to 12 to start monday morning. still quite a cloudy, reasonably mild start to the day. there will be some showers once again on monday bubbling up through the day across eastern scotland, parts of northern england, perhaps the midlands, as well. one or two for wales. southern england will be mostly dry with some sunshine, so an improved picture here. temperatures, in fact, up to about 22 towards the london region. a slightly less chilly day, so we're looking at temperatures back up to the seasonal norm, really, on monday. into tuesday, again, quite a bit of dry weather for central parts of the uk. some rain possible in the south—east. some showers building during the afternoon for northern england and eastern scotland. in between any of the showers, not a bad sort of day. lighter winds. temperatures about 21 in the warmest spots, but again, a bit cooler across the northern half of scotland. high pressure tries to ridge in through the middle part
10:28 am
of the week, but sandwiching that high pressure there is low pressure both to the north and to the south as well. so, yes, some drier weather on the cards. a lot of dry weather for cardiff, for instance, but still a chance of a few showers, but it's a touch warmer than it was last week. bye— bye.
