absolutely need is to have everybody who may know kyle clifford to report immediately any sightings or any knowledge that they have of him. that is the most important thing. dial 999 if you know where this man is. do not approach him. back to your question, in relation to why they have not announced who they were looking for earlier, that is actually rather surprising. when we had the raoul moat incident in northumbria, what happened was we announced we were looking for him immediately, because we knew that it was him who had killed and maimed a number of people. so it should have been an immediate announcing of who they were looking for. of course, it may well be that they did not know it was kyle clifford

until fairly recently. the three ladies who have died, i believe, at the scene, they will have been trying to find out who had got into their properties or who had actually done this terrible crime. it may well have been that it has taken them a significant amount of time to actually find out who it was that they were looking for. the whole thing with a manhunt is the earlier that you get that name out to the public, the more likely it is they can track him down more quickly, because the public are the eyes and ears of the police in these dreadful incidents. they will be using cctv, of course, but it is the public who know this man, it is the public who may have seen

something suspicious in the area, it is the _ public who can actually help resolve this incident as quickly as possible. so we now know who this man is and the police are concentrating their efforts on the bushey area. why are they doing that and why are they not potentially looking further afield? do you think they have information or is this a normal process for a man of this type? this is be normal procedure. they will be looking around the scene as to whether there are any clues as to where he may have gone. they will go to his last known locations, they will be looking for _ his home address, they will be checking up for any associates that he has, any friends that he has too see if he has run, in effect, to them. tell me a bit about what you learned

from the raoul moat manhunt in 2010 that could potentially help officers in this manhunt. what were the big lessons you learn? that manhunt took a number of days, seven days, i believe, or was it more? believe me, it was seven days, and i can remember every one — all of them. the thing that hertfordshire should be doing is that this will be a search with firearms officers, because it looks as though he has used a crossbow that is classified as a firearm. what we found extremely useful was that we had the support of over half of the police forces in the country to search for raoul moat. hertfordshire should be seeking support from local police forces. i would imagine that

the metropolitan will have offered as much assistance as hertfordshire needs, but the reality of the situation for us, and that's why i spent such a long time with it, is you need to— get out, as a chief constable, as senior officers, you need to get out and make your pleas to the public for any evidence or intelligence they have in relation to this man. in actual fact, the way that raoul moat was, in the end, the incident was finalised, was because a lady phoned in to the police and said, "i have just seen that "man walking in front "of my windows", and we were able to locate him, and then we were able to finalise the incident. that's what you need. you need to the media to be fully briefed, and regularly briefed, and you need your communities to be fully briefed, and you need to get your officers out

england fans preparing for the england game. you are watching bbc news. the time is 1:40pm. we will bring you more on the police manhunt that is continuing this afternoon after the triple murder in hertfordshire. three women found seriously injured in a house in bushey in hertfordshire yesterday evening at around 7pm last night, they died at the scene and police described it as a targeted and horrific attack. a manhunt now under way for the suspect, kyle clifford, who is 26 and from enfield. police believe he may be carrying a crossbow. they have urged members of the public not to approach him if they see him, but to get in touch with the police. my colleague is at the scene for us now with the latest. the investigation here, in terms of forensic work and police activity, continues. the house where the three women, who we now know were aged 25,

28 and 61, the house is at the end of the cul—de—sac, to the right, we understand. we can't see it properly from where we are. there is a police court in which we might be able to see, stopping anyone who doesn't need to be there from going through onto that road. there are officers there carrying out that forensic investigation. we had a statement, a press conference in the last hour by hertfordshire police. the details confirming the ages of the three women. they were found in the property after emergency services were called at around 7pm yesterday evening. they were found with serious injuries, clearly and obviously paramedics did all they could to save the women, but they died at the scene. as well as the investigation that is going on here,

as you mentioned, there is a huge police manhunt continuing this lunchtime for a man that officers from hertfordshire police have named. the suspect they want to speak to is a man called kyle clifford, who is 26 years old, and police are searching various areas. we note there is some police activity around the gordon hill station in enfield, about 17 miles away from here. no confirmation as to whether that is connected to this. but i think what we will see is probably quite a bit of activity now that police have made this very public appeal for information for the whereabouts for kyle clifford. they would expect to get lots of phone calls from members of the public. we also know from that statement from the police that a crossbow was used in the attack, and also possibly other weapons as well. police are saying to members of the

public, if you spot kyle clifford, do not approach him, ring 999. that is because he may still have the crossbow on him. they have also directly appealed to the 26—year—old this afternoon as well, asking him to hand himself into police, to ring 999. as you would expect, a huge amount of shock in this area. this is a residential, quiet, leafy town of bushey. there is support that will be provided to anyone who needs it, who lives around this area. at the moment, police trying to piece together exactly what led to the deaths of three women, all related, and also that huge manhunt that is continuing this lunchtime. i know some of the neighbours in that area where you are now talking of how traumatising it was last night, hearing the screams, then hearing armed police telling them to stay indoors, effectively putting

the whole area into lockdown. i think one local councillor has said, we are not used to this in this area, it is a typical leafy british suburb. as you say, huge amount of shock there. exactly, and we spoke to that local councillor earlier this morning, who said he was sitting in his sitting room, watching the football last night when suddenly, there was a complete shock, as you would expect. another local resident who didn't want to be named described how they heard screaming and said that it was definitely a woman screaming and, within 15 minutes, it was absolute chaos, this resident has said. they also went on to say that there were armed police running down, screaming last night, stay in your house! they shut us off and basically put us
