2:32 pm
i actually first coached ollie when he was 12. um, it was my first age group starting at the academy, and coached him for two years at that point. and he was just fantastic in terms of his character. really, really polite, humble young person. always had a smile on his face, really competitive and a really good football player. and he was part of a really good age group that we had. and, obviously, i saw him from that point on progress throughout the age groups into the under eighteens. he scored a lot of goals for us. and then, eventually, into the first team. and obviously we still follow him now and very proud of what he's done. you've known him for a long time. obviously, he was an exceptional. player when you were coaching him. could you ever have imagined what you saw on wednesday? honestly, no. i've been asked that quite a few times recently. ollie was a really talented young player. but obviously, when you're a league two, at the time, category three football club, we always aspire to try and develop players capable of playing at the top level. but to see him scoring

to the news which is dominating. the bullet which grazed donald trump. the investigation is now under way with the fbi at the heart of trying to establish the sequence sequence of events. more about the shooter, and we look to get an update from the authoritys. here's some reaction from international leaders to the assassination attempt on donald trump.
2:46 pm
2:47 pm
that is just some of the avalanche of international reaction that there has been. let us talk to the former adviser to bill and hillary clinton. richard goode steen. let's speak to richard goodstein, former advisor to bill and hillary clinton. again, donald trump isn't the luckiest man alive, when ye consider what the consequences would have been and what a horrible thing that would have been the country. i have to say this: what i hear trump supporters talking about is how violence is unacceptable in the political process. i am reminded of donald trump responding to love talking about the second amendment solutions in case things didn't go his way, shooting people. donald
2:48 pm
trump recently said that his former head of chief of staff should be executed. he posted, as you saw, online, images of a bound and gagged joe biden in the back of a pick—up truck. he marked nancy pelosi's husband, who was clubbed almost to death. so, this notion that somehow, trump's hands are clean is, i have to confess, a bit much. it is his rhetoric leading this, and honestly, the fact the shooter was a registered republican is something that i am sure democrats, i hate to say, were greatly relieved at. any suggestion, and we are now seeing it from republicans, that this was somehow biden's doing, is nonsense.
2:49 pm
i hear what you are saying, but you will be well aware of the counter narrative that we have heard in the hours since this assassination attempt, in terms of the rhetoric used by some democrats. i have heard what you have just said, but broadly, given that we know how polarised america is, is this a wake—up moment across the board? the wake—up moment across the board? iie: democrat rhetoric wake—up moment across the board? ii2 democrat rhetoric is wake—up moment across the board? i"i2 democrat rhetoric is about wake—up moment across the board? ii2 democrat rhetoric is about how trump would be the end of democracy as we know it. i think that that is indisputable based on everything that trump has said. nobody on the democratic side was calling for the kind of violence that trump and his acolytes routinely called for. and that they thought was a laughing matter. do i think that this is going to call things in the united states? i would like to say that i do, but i think that we have seen this before afterjanuary the 6th,
2:50 pm
where trump is urging on these people, was indifferent to the chance of... mike pence. we thought then that things might cool in the united states, but in a matter of days, all of these people in congress were at trump's beck and call in mar—a—lago trying to curry favour with him. call in mar—a—lago trying to curry favourwith him. i'm call in mar—a—lago trying to curry favour with him. i'm not sure that we have a basis to believe that things are going to cool and that unity will be the order of the day. how do you think this is likely to impact on the wider election campaign?— impact on the wider election cam-rain? ~ . ., . ., impact on the wider election cam-rain? ~ ., ., . ., campaign? well, i am now among those who would hope — campaign? well, i am now among those who would hope that _ campaign? well, i am now among those who would hope that joe _ campaign? well, i am now among those who would hope that joe biden - campaign? well, i am now among those who would hope that joe biden would i who would hope thatjoe biden would step aside and give way to a younger generation democratic leader. i will confess that i think that on one hand, this may make biden more inclined to say: i am that unifying
2:51 pm
figure that the country needs, but on the other hand, i think that trump loves to play the martyr and the victim, and this probably may increase his standing ever so slightly in the near term, which will put biden even further behind in the polls and make it even more imperative that there be another democratic presidential candidate. so, i cannot really say it is easier to predict at this point, i have seen some say this will make trump voters even more inclined to come out, i think that they were anyway. again, and trump could have said: calm down. he could have converged to make urged people to be calm. but his instinct was not that, it is in the opposite direction, not one towards unity. certainly he wants to have more guns in the hands of people. biden wants to regulate

them. there are issues that people haven't even talked about yet. i’m haven't even talked about yet. i'm sure that over _ haven't even talked about yet. i'm sure that over the coming days, some of those issues will be talked about, but america hasn't seen an assassination attempt on a president orformer president assassination attempt on a president or former president since ronald reagan. these are days and moments that will shake the american public for very substantial amount of time, consequential days, aren't they? it is very different to the reagan shooting. reagan was close to death. he was shot in the abdomen, and you read the stories, and it was radically different. trump isn't the luckiest man alive. it only clipped easier. not to minimise it, but again, how serious it could have been. he wasn't injured in the same way reagan was. will people react in
2:53 pm

2:54 pm
like the secret service individuals, they seem more republicans than democrats. this isn't a political judgment, it isjust democrats. this isn't a political judgment, it is just about what may or may not have been on the top of that building, but raises questions about the security being provided for the president. in that respect, whatever answers they have, people will be hanging on, because what they really want to hear is that we need to be better and we cannot let this happen again. ever. es, need to be better and we cannot let this happen again. ever.— this happen again. ever. a final thou:ht: this happen again. ever. a final thought: the — this happen again. ever. a final thought: the white _ this happen again. ever. a final thought: the white house - this happen again. ever. a final thought: the white house is . thought: the white house is reporting a good short and respectful call has happened between joe biden and donald trump. it is extremely important in these coming hours, isn't it, the sort of responses that we get across the board from leading politicians? 100%. and look, in an ideal world, biden and trump might make a joint
