republican national convention, many speeches here later tonight and we will bring you those live as well as plenty of discussion and analysis you're on bbc news so stay with us. but for now back to in the studio. studio: the key to our team in washington. police in spain say human police in spain say human remains have been found on the island of tenerife, near to where the british teenager — jay slater — went missing. the 19—year—old from lancashire, hasn't been seen since he disappeared, last, month. a formal identification has yet to take place — but spanish police say "all evidence suggests" the remains are those of jay slater. the teenager was on holiday and had been attending a music festival on the island. he then went to a house several miles away — that was the last time he was seen. the body has been found not far away — near the village of masca. police say he may have suffered an accident or fall, as our correspondent danny savage reports. rescuers today in a deep, inaccessible gorge in tenerife, close to where jay slater was last seen alive.

it is here where human remains have now been found, along with his clothes and possessions. it's a month since the 19—year—old ended up at an airbnb in this mountainous part of the island after a night out. jay had been holidaying with friends when he vanished last month. a huge search was launched for him by the authorities on the island. drones were sent into the air to assist mountain rescue teams, but the official search was eventually called off when no trace of him was found. a statement from the civil guard on tenerife today says, "all indications indicate that it could be the young british man disappeared since lastjune 17th in the absence of a full id." jay was from oswaldtwistle, here in lancashire. ever since he went missing, people have been tying blue ribbons to lamp posts and fences in public places to show that people here were keeping him and his family in their thoughts.

period, and some of the rain torrential, with thundery downpours in it. now, that weather front is continuing to push its way steadily northwards, and it will linger first thing on tuesday morning. not a bad start, though, for scotland once again, a few scattered sharp showers to the north—west of the great glen. a few showers developing as we go through the day, but on the whole, there will be a good dry slot with some sunny spells coming through. not a bad start into northern ireland, north—west england as well. here's our weatherfront at 10am in the morning, lingering across east yorkshire, lincolnshire, gradually drifting its way eastwards. and then as we go through the afternoon, we'll see sunny spells and scattered showers. but these showers across north—east england, eastern scotland could be heavy with the odd rumble of thunder mixed in there once again. on the whole, winds light, but again still from that cooler north—westerly source. a bit more of a breeze, perhaps, into the far south—east. and temperatures certainly a little bit more subdued. particularly further north, we're looking at highs of 16—20 degrees. moving out of tuesday, though, into wednesday, high pressure is building

attempt on donald trump at that rally in pennsylvania. all of the questions that have been asked about how this could happen, congress has called for an inquiry. they're holding briefings, looking into what happened with secret service and their plan for that rally. we've seen the president, joe biden, hold remarks. he said that he's launching an independent investigation into what happened. he also said that those results will be revealed to the public. he made a call for unity in an address to the nation as well, where he said, "look, we may have our differences, but we have to settle those in a civil and peaceful manner." he said that he called donald trump after the shooting. he managed to reach him on saturday and had a short phone call with him. we know that the president's — the first lady, rather — jill biden, also spoke to donald trump's wife, melania trump, briefly on sunday. all of this flurry of activity, of course, after the nation really has just been in shock after that assassination attempt. and then we saw donald trump saying, "look, i'm not going to a shooter or assassin stop me from going forward with my plan,

so i'm heading to milwaukee." so he arrived here in milwaukee on sunday evening. he stepped off the plane, there were hundreds of his supporters there to greet him, and he has now said that he plans to go ahead with his programme here at the republican national convention. and now we're hearing this morning two huge pieces of news — first of all, that a judge has thrown out the criminal case against donald trump for mishandling classified documents. you know, adam, many people will remember some of those images that, you know, went around the world of classified documents that were being stored at donald trump's residence in florida, in a bathroom, in the ballroom. well, the special counsel, jack smith, brought a criminal case against donald trump for that. and thejudge here, aileen cannon, said essentially that that special counsel, that his role violated the constitution, that he didn't have the authority to bring that case, so that is a huge piece of news. we saw donald trump reacting to that already, saying, "that is great news and all other cases against me should be

thrown out as well." and we are now expecting donald trump to announce his nominee for vice president. it was rumoured that that could happen on monday, the first day of the convention. and our news partner here, cbs news, is also said that he's expected to make that announcement in the afternoon. and we could possibly see donald trump here at the convention centre — it's been filling in slowly, with delegates arriving — but it is rumoured that he will arrive here this afternoon and perhaps might speak as well, ever so briefly, we believe, because he's expected to sleep — to speak, rather — later in the week as well. but that is what we're hearing today, and so much has been happening, adam. sumi, that was an excellent summary of an avalanche of news. and that is why you're the chief anchor for the bbc world news channel. let's zoom in on some of those things. and i should say that we're recording this episode of newscast at 5.31ipm on monday evening. so while you were listening to this, actually, some of those things may have developed even a bit further. justin, just, first question to you. are we learning any more about how this could have happened?

i mean, you don't need to know anything about american politics to know that the bubble of security around the american president is the tightest security you could imagine. yeah, and it's notjust security on the day. that's the other thing that i rememberfrom my time in the states and actually watching presidential tours around the world as well. i mean, i followed george w bush once, of all places, to sedgefield, to tony blair's old constituency, and you land there in air force one at the nearby airport and they ferry you in a helicopter, in a blackhawk helicopter, to the then prime minister's house — because they don't think the roads are safe, because they haven't been able to scan them. and they brought their own fuel as well, i remember, for the blackhawks because they didn't trust british air fuel. so there is a huge amount of effort, "no expense spared" effort, that goes into the secret service's work in normal times. the allegation now is that that effort didn't go into this.
