violent scenes on venezuela streets. protests erupt over sunday's official election result. and paris pollution forces olympic organisers to postpone the men's triathlon just hours before it was due to begin. hello. a british seaside town is mourning on tuesday, rocked by the stabbing deaths of two children. six other children are in a critical condition in hospital, as are two adults. it happened in southport, in england's north—west. the children were attending a holiday dance class — a specially—themed workshop, celebrating taylor swift — when they were stabbed. a 17—year—old boy has been arrested over the attack. my my colleague is at the scene. bring it up—to—date with the latest.

southport is this morning waking up in shock, in grief and asking the question why? as i walked here this morning to the police cordon, it was actually eerily quietjust a few early morning joggers out, i saw a couple of people pushing prams with their children after yesterday's multiple stabbing just up the road here from the police cordon, where as you said, two children died, nine others are in hospital, six of those are critically ill, two adults are also critically ill. now police say they were injured while trying to protect the children at that dance event, taylor swift themed dance event. it is a beginning of the summer holidays here in the united kingdom and lots of parents around the country will be sending their

children to event like this. this one was for children aged between six and ii and at around 11:16am yesterday morning a man entered and carried out what was a ferocious attack, stabbing the children. we have heard witnesses talk about how they heard screams, how it was like a scene from a horror movie and that paramedics were in tears as they tried to help those children on the street. this morning we have seen a stream of people coming and leaving floral tributes. you can see some of them behind me, one card just says, love, stockport. there have been children's teddies, one i saw had a poem that was called hope. and i just read at the end, through this devastation with tears can barely

cope, love to be ongoing, we cling to future hope. later today there is going to be a vigil at the town hall at six o'clock which a lot of locals are saying will be well attended. a 17—year—old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. he has from the nearby village of banks, originally from cardiff. with details of what happened yesterday, my colleague report. a warning, you may find some of the content in his report distressing. in southport they have been bringing flowers, an instinctive response to an incomprehensible act of violence against children on a summer's morning. something like this doesn't happen around here. it is something that is very, like, hit our community very hard i think as well, and obviously it is still very raw as well, everything that is going on.
9:04 am
the prime minister's response echoed those from southport. the events are truly awful, and i know the whole country is deeply shocked at what they have seen and heard, and i know i speak for everybody, the whole country in saying our thoughts and condolences are with the victims, their families, their friends and the wider community. and last night the king said he and the queen had been profoundly shocked to hear of the utterly horrific incident in southport. and so many will have been affected. organisers of the summer holiday dance class and the children who were taking part. the parents who came to pick them up and those to pick them up and those who saw the aftermath. it was like a bomb had gone off. girls' bodies all over the place. me, one of my colleagues who works with me, james, he brought one of the girls out

of the building and she didn't look good at all, poor kid. i checked in on my girls and ijust ran to the crowd because ijust thought, you put your nhs head on, don't you? and the mother that i wasjust consoling, the look on her face, because she knew something had happened to her child. it is like, oh, my gosh, how do you even comprehend? there is nothing you can do. this is like the worst thing you can ever imagine. - my daughter was there on saturday, our friends' kids were here, - and theyjust got slain, massacred. there were so many witnesses, police were able to quickly describe what happened. the children were attending a taylor swift event at a dance school when the offender, armed with a knife, walked into the premises and started to attack, inside, the children. we believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children

who were being attacked. as a mum and a nana, i can't begin to imagine the pain and suffering of the families of the victims are going through at this moment in time. 13 were stabbed, ii of them children. two were killed. six children and two adults remain in a life—threatening condition. but why did it happen? a question now being asked, notjust here, but across the country. police continue to hold a 17—year—old boy from a nearby village, banks. they have yet to suggest any motive, but they are not treating the attack as terror—related. this will likely be a long investigation in a deeply traumatised community. joining me now is a local councillor in the area. you grew up just ten houses away from this incident.

five bus loads of sick and wounded palestinians are ready to leave gaza for medical treatment abroad.
9:14 am
it would be one of the largest single evacuations of the sick and wounded since the war began in october, after hamas attacked israel. israel's military operation against hamas has crippled gaza's health care system. the world health organization says there are still 10,000 more patients who need to leave gaza. international journalists are not allowed into gaza, but barbara plett usher reports using video sent by a local cameraman. a rare chance for gaza's sick and injured to get the care they can't get here. this is the beginning of a long journey, they help. nothing is ever certain. this woman needs major surgery for her scoliosis, delayed now by six months. i call on the whole world to look at us with compassion.
9:15 am
i could not believe it when they contacted me, that my daughter was amongst those on the list going outside gaza for treatment. so many need to be healed, but israel's war against hamas has closed hospitals, killed doctors, blocked medicines, inflicted traumatic injuries and trauma. we were struck. my eldest son was killed, my father was killed, my youngest son lost his sight. his left eye was blown out with a skull fracture. my middle son suffers from a leg injury and leg deformities. and i suffer a skull fracture, blindness in my left eye and a broken shoulder and ribs. there is no safe place in gaza. the front line keeps closing in. many have to flee time and time again. they have nowhere to go. this is one of the only ways out, not the first medical evacuation,
9:16 am
but it is the biggest. this 12—year—old lost her foot in an explosion. i wish that the war would end and that all children like me will be able to come with me and have artificial limbs fitted and receive treatment abroad. i also hope that i will return to see my father in peace. it is a bittersweet goodbye in the middle of a war, hoping for a cure, hoping even more they will see their families again, that one day they will be able to return. the israeli prime minister has called for calm after demonstrators, including far—right politicians, forced their way into two military bases. benjamin netanyahu said he "strongly condemned" the disturbances.

facility, this notorious military base where palestinian detainees from the gaza war had been kept. it has been highlighted a lot by human rights groups and by international media investigations at a place where there are allegations of widespread abuse and we have been hearing reports from there about how detainees are routinely shackled to hospital beds, how they have been kept blindfolded, how they have had to wear nappies while being detained. but this case is said to have involved nine reservist soldiers, accused of sexually assaulting a detainee, said to have been a senior member of hamas. we understand that he had been taken to hospital, unable to walk. as military investigators arrived at the site, that is when the protests really became very rowdy and chaotic and then later we saw the protesters

going, a crowd of hundreds to a second military base where there is a military court and breaking in there. a lot of questions being asked about how this was able to happen in terms of security and it really shows a lot of the political divisions, because while you have the prime minister denouncing what happened, the israeli military chief of staff team this bordered on anarchy, that it was unlawful, he also have far right members of the israeli government who have spoken in defence of the soldiers. the national security minister said, take your hand off the reservist. another party leader, from her ultranationalist party, the finance minister came out saying that the soldiers being question should be treated as heroes had not as criminals. treated as heroes had not as criminals-— treated as heroes had not as criminals. ., ,, , ., ., ., benjamin netanyahu says his country will deliver a severe response to the missile strike

front continuing to break up, reallyjust a band of cloud across southern scotland, northern england and northern ireland, and another one across the far north of scotland, where it's also windy, producing the odd shower. but in between a lot of dry and sunny weather with highs of 21 in aberdeen but potentially 32 in london. that tempts you to the coast, where it will be cooler with sea breezes. these are the temperatures you can expect in the sea, so still a bit nippy. now through this evening and overnight still a lot of clear skies. at times we'll import a bit of low cloud from the north sea, a few showers getting into south west england and we could see some thundery showers coming up from france, clipping the far south east where it will be humid. but it will be chilly in sheltered glens with overnight lows of four degrees. tomorrow we lose the thundery showers quite early doors, then low cloud coming in on an onshore breeze at times across eastern england and eastern scotland. but we could well see some thundery showers across the channel islands and southern counties, with highs tomorrow up to 30
