hello from the bbc sport centre. fast bowler, matthew potts, has been called up to the england test side for the first time in a year in place of captain ben stokes whose been ruled out of the series against sri lanka with a hamstring injury. the other change sees dan lawrence come in for injured opener zak crawley. our sports correspondent, joe wilson is at old trafford in manchester where the first test starts on wednesday. so,joe, england have opted to bring in a bowler to replace ben stokes, not try to find and a like for like replactement with an all rounder. that is right. one of the issues when you replacing ben stokes, never mind his captaincy, he brings that balance for the team, because he is trying so hard... what is going on

behind me is that a group of england's bowlers are running through their preparations, going through their preparations, going through some deliveries with their bowling men tour, a certainjames anderson. but if you look at the balance of the england team, chris works will bat at seven, —— woakes. that is a long tail. you have to get 20 wickets to win that match, and during this selection they have given them the best chance of doing that when this series begins here against sri lanka on wednesday. i am against sri lanka on wednesday. i am wonderin: against sri lanka on wednesday. i am wondering if — against sri lanka on wednesday. i am wondering if they _ against sri lanka on wednesday. i am wondering if they should have retired james anderson at the beginning of this year. he may not beginning of this year. he may not be playing, but he is very much present. be playing, but he is very much resent. ~ , , ~ be playing, but he is very much resent. , , ~ ., be playing, but he is very much resent. , , . ., present. absolutely. we spoke to dan lawrence earlier _ present. absolutely. we spoke to dan lawrence earlier today, _ present. absolutely. we spoke to dan lawrence earlier today, and _ present. absolutely. we spoke to dan lawrence earlier today, and as - present. absolutely. we spoke to dan lawrence earlier today, and as you . lawrence earlier today, and as you alluded to, him coming back into the england team, opening the batting is

a big opportunity for him. lawrence said ben stokes would be overseeing things this weekend and we saw that from when the moment the training session began. because ben stokes was there part of the huddle, i would not say he was doing more listening than talking. the coach and captain for this series were doing the talking. of course, when it comes to those minute by minute on field decisions, that will the responsibility of ollie pope, i think being part of things here is the best therapy for him, knowing his personality. the best therapy for him, knowing his personality-— the best therapy for him, knowing his personality. thank you very much indeed. raheem sterling's future at chelsea seems in doubt after he was left out of the chelsea squad that lost their opening premier league game of the season 2—0 to manchester city. moments after the team news was announced his representatives put out a statement saying they wanted "clarity" over his role at the club.
2:48 pm
our football reporter, nizaar kinsella, says it may not be easy to move him on. i think there will be huge tension until august the 30th when the transfer window closes, because until then, transfer window closes, because untilthen, i can transfer window closes, because until then, i can see him being frozen out entirely based on what we saw the other day, what we heard the manager say, saw the other day, what we heard the managersay, calling saw the other day, what we heard the manager say, calling it a technical decision to leave him out. but the other question is, where does he go? will he actually leave? will clubs bid for him and pay his huge wages? that will be a huge question and i feel like the answer could be no and in the cincinatti open... aryna sabalenka defeated world number one iga swiatek for the first time this season to reach the final. having lost to her twice, sabalenka won this one in straight sets 6—3, 6—3— she'll now facejessica pegula who beat powla badosa 6—2, 3—6, 6—3 in the other semifinal. after winning three medals
