on the right hand of the screen and we'll take you there as soon as that starts. we start this hour in germany, where police are hunting for a man after three people were stabbed to death at a festival in the western city of solingen. eight others have been injured, five seriously during the incident on friday. this is what we know so far. local media is reporting a man randomly stabbed passers—by as the city hosted a festival, marking its 650th anniversary. the motive for the attack is still not clear. in the last hour or so the german interior minister said she was "deeply shocked" by what she called the brutal knife attack and the authorities were doing everything they can to catch the assailant. with details on the incident, here's our reporter, jack surfleet. an evening of celebration that ended in despair. shortly before 10:00, as crowds gathered at a street festival in downtown solingen, police say an unknown perpetrator attacked several people with a knife, before fleeing the scene.

solingen is a city in western germany, around 18 miles west of dusseldorf. thousands were on the streets celebrating its history when this tragic event unfolded. people were like running away from the scene. many were very calm, but so we hadn't we didn't had a panic, but, um, it was shocking. and everybody who had to see that, i can't imagine what that is like. the incident prompted a huge initial response from emergency services, with armed officers attending the scene, medical workers treating victims in the streets, and the reported deployment of a0 tactical vehicles to help with the search for the attacker. a cordon remained in place overnight as officers tried to piece together the events of the evening, their search for the suspect is ongoing. translation: we would -

difficult mission indeed and have allowed others to inspect properly the wreck for bodies. so we would like to convey our most heartfelt thanks to these rescuers, these divers. we should also like to thank the coastguard which cooperated every single day with the authorities to supervise the operations, and they continue to do so under the control of the admiral,

and we should like to thank all of them for their extraordinary efforts. we should also like to thank the other forces of law and order involved. many of them who have tried to console the other members of the families who have been affected. and of course it would be much more grave, serious, if the inquiry finds that the tragedy was caused by irresponsible crew. i'd like to also inform you
