report with some of the big moments in his career. he brought a swedish crew to english football, but behind that studious surface, sven—goran eriksson's rain was anything but dull. he made his managerial name first with gothenburg, then with flat seal, but one england cap book —— appointed him as kevin keegan's replacement into doubt it sparked a storm of controversy. england had never had a foreign coach before, but if the traditionalists were upset, erickson was unflappable. if it traditionalists were upset, erickson was unflappable— was unflappable. if it is the most difficult job _ was unflappable. if it is the most difficult job i _ was unflappable. if it is the most difficult job i am _ was unflappable. if it is the most difficult job i am happy, - was unflappable. if it is the most difficult job i am happy, it'll- was unflappable. if it is the most difficult job i am happy, it'll be . difficultjob i am happy, it'll be the biggest challenge of my life. he soon silenced his critics on a famous night in munich. after 5—1 thrashing of germany and suddenly he seemed england because my saviour.

would leave after the tournament. england went into it with high hopes, their team to have the golden generation, but yet again they crashed out in the quarterfinals, yet again on penalties. eriksson said it was the biggest disappointment of his career. i don't think england was ready to win the world cup in 2002. 2006, yes, england should have done better and if you take all the defeats i had in my life, that was the hardest one. after leaving the england job, eriksson spent a year at manchester city, followed by a string of other clubs, including notts county. his profile and he was never short of offers, but it is as england's ground—breaking boss that he will be best remembered, the man behind one of england football's most eventful

periods. as we were just hearing, sven—goran eriksson, england's first foreign manager. he revealed injanuary 2024 that he had terminal cancer. his managerial career spanned more than four decades. it began in sweden, taking charge gothenburg. he was only 30 years old at the time. then he began his journey only 30 years old at the time. then he began hisjourney across europe. a lot of success at benfica, and another uefa cup final in 1983. he went across to italy for a short time, then this second spell leading benfica to european cup final in 1990, where they lost to inter milan. then sampdoria, fiorentino, before his big move to lazio. he delivered the league title in 2,000. it was only the second time the rome club had won italy's biggest prize,

which made him one of the most highly rated managers in europe at the time, which is where his appointment as england manager in january 2001 came about. a lot of accusations are perhaps not getting the most out of it's so—called golden generation, but there was of course that very famous 5—1 victory over germany in munich. he reached the quarterfinals for england in three major tournaments. he left at the end of the world cup in 2006. he went on to manage a host of clubs. manchester city, leicester, mexico, and finally the fiddle —— the philippines. in march 2004 he managed liverpool at anfield in a charity game. he called it a beautiful day afterwards. there was a documentary about his life that

12:56 pm
that we're seeing late on in the afternoon, so a little bit warmer than it has been through the weekend. nothing startling, but somewhat of an improvement. as we head overnight the winds are going to start to pick up and we start to see some rain coming into northern ireland, heading further into scotland, and perhaps over the irish sea, as well. for large parts of england and wales it will be dry with some clearer skies. quite a warm night, particularly so where we've got that wetter, windier weather in northern ireland. that should move away, though, fairly quickly on tuesday and we'll follow that with some sunshine. some heavier rain over dumfries and galloway for a while, but the rain does tend to ease away for most of scotland because it stumbles slowly into northern england, into wales and the south—west. the midlands and a good part of eastern england are likely to be dry and there will be some sunshine here. it's starting to get a bit warmer, as well. those temperatures reaching 24 or 25 degrees ahead of the rain, which is coming in on that weather front there and because that weather front is so slow as we move into wednesday, temperatures ahead of it will continue to rise.
12:57 pm
following on from that weather front, we've got lower pressure in the north—west. that will bring some showers on wednesday into northern ireland and particularly scotland, with some heavier, thundery ones in the west. there's the weather front. you can see there's not much rain on it, but it's not really move very far at all. and the south—east continuing to warm up our temperatures reaching 27, maybe 28 degrees. that's going to be the peak of the heat, mind you, because eventually the weather front is going to move its way eastwards. in the south there's little or no rain and not much rain further north as well. but once that clears through, we're all going to have a run of westerly winds and that's going to bring with it some cooler and fresher air. so temperatures are going to be lower later on in the week. we are going to find on thursday some showers for northernmost parts of the uk, but even these move away on friday and in the sunshine further south it will still feel quite pleasant.
