between the two of them, isn't a lack of enthusiasm on his part? is it just recognizing on his part, that trump represents an ongoing threat to our democracy? which he is looted to a number of times. and 300 about 35 days, but who is counting, voters are gonna let him know. tonight they've done a little bit of damage control ever since the quote sneaked out, a little while ago expressed if he would still be running for president if trump wasn't running for president, to which he said this -- >> would you be running if trump present morning? >> i expect so but look, if he he is running and i have to run. >> okay. there might have been some conversations on air force one, people running his campaign well, how did they respond when they heard what he said? with the big old, yikes.

that is a quote apparently. we know the president has been looking at this election as a kind of existential battle for american democracy, with the measure we've heard from him before. >> democracy is at stake, and let there be no question, donald trump and his maga republicans are determined to spread anger hate, division, they see power at all cause, and determined to destroy the democracy. i cannot watch that happen, nor can you. this is the united states of america, and the united states congress, extreme maga republican are trying to undo virtually every progress we have made. >> that was all from this year, how about the argument he made when running back in 2020, similar right? the fact is, the then candidate, reported to aids he would be a one term president. we know that is no longer the case. remember back when a prominent virus or told politico that time, -- he's gonna be 82 years old in

backtrack saying tonight quote, she unequivocally condemns hamas use of, and sexual violence as an act of war. unquote. what does this say about why now? was she under pressure to say this is that what has happened? >> yes. in a word yes. that word that you just used from the statement that she released earlier this evening, unequivocally. that is the word that many of our colleagues, i would say most of her colleagues were hoping that she would say. you can kind of telling the interview, i wasn't sure, i wasn't expecting her answer, to say yes to condemn the brutal. this is what we are talking about, the brutal, barbaric, mass of women on october 7th israeli women.

and then to turn it back to israel. what it does underscore laura, is something i know you've been reporting on, i have been reporting on. i've been reporting on it since before october 7th, but it is exploded since october 7th. which is a growing, the hostility towards israel, by progressives who genuinely understandably believe in palestinian rights. that is been going on for a long time. there are some in her own caucus who will not condemn hamas. who will go off on tangents and say that israel's and engaging in genocide. she's not one of them. she is very very clearly condemned hamas. as called it a terror attack attack. has also spoken out forcefully against antisemitism. as a caucus chair she has been trying to walk a line, but the

president if donald trump wasn't running? >> i expect so but look, he is running and i just i have to run. >> okay, so we like to analyze an over analyzed washington, d.c. and beyond. are people being too critical of what he said and how we set it? or is that the interpretation of what many might hear, i gotta do it what do you think? >> a couple of months ago when he was deciding whether he was gonna run for reelection he said that he was going to weigh a couple of options in and who is running meeting donald trump was gonna be one of those things he would consider. he was just reiterating it. is it something that needs to be said right now? probably not, it's not the best thing to say right now. the reason i won't be running for president as they think he's the best thing person for the job. i think joe biden thinks he's a best person for the job. they are really holding a

primary for anyone to challenge him. i am not surprised that's how he feels, i'm running because donald trump is running, because the first time we ran that was the thing he said. i have to protect the soul of the nation, and you have to stop donald trump. and he thought he was the best person to do and guess what? he did it. can >> congressman team it from my home state of minnesota is slamming the initial comments he called it downright delusional and pointed to biden's pretty low approval ratings. when you heard the comments, did you interpret it in the same way as people are looking at it right now. look i had to do it or, or was it a continuation of look i am the person who can actually beat him because i have and i think i have to run. >> i thought it was not inelegant comment. if you ask if why running for president, because i'm a terrific present, i have a great agenda, and i have a lot to do for form theories. and by the way my opponent is,

a threat to the constitution in a menace. not just because i can run because he's running. he should have an answer but why is running for president better than what he gave. >> he was talking to donors so he was looking for people who wanted to see him when, at the same token oh is it fair to say that he only thinks this way? we heard from senator joe manchin talking about whether he will run as a third party or otherwise are no party. because he doesn't want to take away votes from biden in favor of trump. congresswoman liz cheney the former congresswoman has talked about her to contemplation of what is ahead. and in fact she talk to anderson cooper tonight that she is considering not necessarily a third party run but doing all she can to prevent trump from getting that victory. when we look at the landscape of all this, obviously he is the republican front runner,

everyone is considering donald trump right now right? >> yes, when you look at even when your party is running for the nominee. chris christie, he said he's running because he has to stop donald trump. well, some of the people also said that aren't even in the race anymore because they didn't do so well. asa hutchinson, and other folks who are there, but people aren't thinking of donald trump. people presume he's going to be the republican nominee. i will say i still think that there could be a primary caucus surprise. what happens a lot of times it does get drug out until super tuesday. i do think people are looking at donald trump. all eyes are looking at will this be a biden trump rematch? >> former congresswoman, i keep saying congress men, former congresswoman liz cheney is contemplating that third party run under a traditional republican values. she's been very clear about a disconnect between what trump espouses and making a new party,

not necessarily a new third-party, but a new party that would go back to maybe your father's republican party, maybe your own republican party frankly. would you support that in which you have other support among republicans? >> i think liz cheney is right. when you talk about an independent movement, some mcarthur party movement. center left, to the center right of the country. because i think that the center of the country has been largely ignored in this country. the extremes are being catered to by the parties and i think liz is right. those labels no labels are setting her up, right no labels is trying to set up ballot access in all 50 states for some kind of a fusion ticket. i think that liz cheney might fit the bill for that at some point. we could talk, it could be a larry hogan, a chris sununu or liz cheney and joe manchin who knows. i'm not sure who the democrat might be but there would be

plenty who would be willing to jump into this because i think a lot of the people at the center of the country and certainly a lot of republicans like me want to be able to vote for somebody other than donald trump. i didn't vote for him in 16 or 20, a voted for biden in 20. two thirds of the country thinks one candidate joe biden is too old and the other just donald trump is too crazy. what part of that message aren't the parties hearing? >> joker to the left you, jokic is the right, here i am stuck in the middle of the. here we go who knows what actually. happens actually, charlie thank you both so much. while the director of the fbi says he is blinking red warning lights every single place he turns. next, we'll talk about what is scaring the director of the fbi. and also he says the grad threats are greater than ever before.

we're working around the clock to identify and disrupt potential attacks by those inspired by hamas's horrific terrorist attacks in israel. i've never seen a time when all of the threats or so many of the threats are all elevated alert exactly the same time. >> would you say there's multiple blinking red lights out there? >> i see blinking lights everywhere i turn. >> fbi director christopher wray waving a huge red flag about the threats of attacks on the homeland, saying that the threats to the u.s. have reached unprecedented level since october 7th. stop right now is amal harmon from department of homeland security and jamele jaffer former associate white house counsel to george w. bush handling intelligence community matters.

first of all, i don't feel very comfortable here in the fbi director having an preside precedent in moments that he's never heard before. not a ringing endorsement of our collective safety. why is this happening now put particular the post october 7th here in the united states? >> he's clearly harkening back to george tenant who actually testified to the 9/11 commission about the system blinking red. so he's really honing in on two types of threats. the first is the international threat of foreign terrorist hours asians are ftos that have sworn attacks against the u.s. and are trying to inspire people within the u.s. which is the second one, the domestic threat coming from people who are inspired by the events that are going on in israel. hamas is misinformation online, so when you look at the threat picture, it's rare that you have threats coming from overseas as well as from the homeland simultaneously.

>> well if he is seeing blinking red lights everywhere, other agents everywhere and nor the collective workforce power to handle everything. and so, that might be national security huge threat? >> well he is actually right. there are threats from the outside, it's not just the hamas israel war, war is essential and far we get a war in europe as well, threats from pacific and china and the like. and on december 31st, we're about to lose our most critical election tool, section 702 of the foreign surveillance act. if congress doesn't act in the next three weeks, we can lose our best ability to fight on these very terrorist, these very foreign threats. that will be a disaster. so the system is blinking red and this tool goes away, red is not even close to winning a face. >> how is the tool being used right now? >> under section seven of two, we collect foreign intelligence targets overseas. it can't be used against

americans, over overseas threats and only non-americans located overseas. >> what about social media? >> open source isn't the use for this. you can get open source on the internet. anybody can go out there and read it. this is for the emails of, phone calls of terrorists, spies foreign officials alike. >> well speaking of social media of course a lot of information is coming in that can either radicalize people or further divide people and foster a lot of disinformation and outright lies. propaganda is happening online. when i you look at that and see how it is flourishing, how public sentiment is based upon in so many ways, what concerns you? >> you know, the world is upside down. i woke up two weeks ago and i saw that bin laden was right and bin laden was trending. i did know what world i was in. so when you can radicalize normal americans, especially our youth to take to the

streets. we have american children, youth dressing up like terrorists, waving hamas flags in the streets of our cities on the campuses, you know you have a problem. it all stems from the internet. it's unregulated. it penetrates miss and disinformation and hate, it penetrates deep into the social media networks. and it's almost impossible to bring these people back from the brink. what we don't know is if anybody's going to act on it. that's key. people may be communicating with a foreign terrorist organization, we saw this in the mid 2000s with ices, communicating actively with persons here on our soil, as well as looking as water people are doing on social media and see if they're radicalizing. >> i always quote this all the time. the report of the tom cruise movie about whether you've committed the crime and act on, or the thought you might do something. we don't want that to happen obviously in this country.

but this idea of what might happen is the real conundrum for law enforcement. you've got all the different threats they pose, if there are some existing, and then figuring out which to identify, and then thinking about while at some point is there gonna be a more deeper conversation about surveilling american citizens as a result? >> that's exactly right. and this point about what's happening online, a lot of this is happening on tiktok. chinese owned and operated platform. it's no coincidence that this kind of radicalization the bin laden thing, all these american kids happen on to happen on a chinese chinese platform. but you're exactly right. that's why section 702 and this law actually protects americans overseas and in the united states. if you want to surveil an american anywhere in the world, you have to go to court and get a court order. from the judge in the pfizer court. it was irregular district judges who just serve in that court. already you have to go to federal court, a federal judge

like and get a warrant like you wouldn't criminal proceeding. so the only thing just two committees for surveilling foreigners overseas, when are engaged in terrorist activities. so it's true you might get communication with americans, but that's exactly what you want to know. if these terrorists are talking to americans. that's when you want to know. and if you want to collect and then you have to get to go get a court order. >> sounds like a volume of the possibilities might be ripe for a system to be abused or either gift or the curse. who knows, thank you for both of you coming here tonight. i appreciate it thank you so much. up next, the horrifying moment of a deadly house explosion just outside of washington, d.c.. you've probably seen this video. we're learning more details about gunfire and the man barricaded inside as police were execucuting a seaearchh warrrrant.

there was a tragic and to please stand up monday night when suddenly this.

this stunning video shows a home exploding into flames and officers were trying to execute a search warrant. the suspect 56-year-old james yoo was barricaded inside his home when the blast occurred in his presumed dead. now you have a lot of questions. you certainly seen this footage, so the way. turning now chief law enforcement intelligence analyst john miller. john, i saw this. i'm not gonna spoil it for people but there is a similar movie scene about this sort of thing happening but it was all booby trapped and all these things happening. the magnitude of the explosion in real life, not hollywood is shocking. what caused it? and do we know if that was intentional? >> well, it is still under investigation and that is being carried on by the arlington county police department, the atf and the fbi. but atf arson experts have been going through that has to take a chemical test.

here's the operating theory lori. james you brought police there because he had fired about 50 projectiles, probably flares in the direction of neighbor's homes. when police got there, they say they were fired on again so they backed down and they came back with a burqa. that's that armored vehicle you see approaching the house just before it explodes. they were talking on the loudspeaker asking him to come out an armed and they were going to take him into custody. that's when the house exploded. what they think happened. before they did the arrest warrant and try to get him out, they cut off the gas line to the house. but by then they believe yoo had filled the house with natural gas. and then a figurine may have caused an additional flare to

cause a spontaneous combustion. but i've seen a lot of gas explosions. i've talked to people on the scene. i think there is something else here. perhaps additional propane tanks or some kind of accelerant, because they said after the gas explosion at the amount of fire, the fact that the flames kept ongoing signals to them that he had some as you suggested rigged the house, booby trapped up with something more than just gas. >> so who is this guy? what do we know about him? is he known to federal authorities? >> he is. it's really interesting because he's totally unknown to the people on his block. the man at 8:44 burlington street in arlington was never seen by neighbors. they didn't even really know if somebody really lived there. but the federal authorities, to the court system, two attorneys, he was a prolific filer of

lawsuits, with outlandish claims in paranoid delusions. paranoid seems to be the driver here. he felt that the neighbors were spying on him, the neighbor's children were spying on him, that his ideas and businesses have been stolen, that people were following him, that the fbi had mics in his house. it was deep. >> i mean deep to say the least. and to say that he obviously was believed to be killed in that explosion, when the officers i think it was unattached duplex now that was harmed significantly. it's really unbelievable.f the story and that is going to peel away some additional layers john. thank you. >> it's a miracle no more people were initially injured. >> it's a mystery and will be on. and john miller thanks a lot. >> thank you. >> they're more questions in jackson, mississippi after another man was found to be buried by authorities without his family's k knowledge..

grave. >> mercedes, just hearing your mother described what has happened to your brother in the feelings behind it he was somebody he was considered tingly on the move, it struggled with some substance abuse. but what was your relationship like with him? why was there so much time between knowing where he was and then this devastating revelations? >> we feel there was so much time because that was marrio's way. that's how he was normally. was raised in a strict christian home. so he was more so ashamed and he knew if he came around we, would know what you were doing, what you shouldn't be doing. he kept his distance for that reason but we always saw him on

holidays. he always came around to my mom's house. so to us he wasn't missing to us he was basically being marrio just because of the things that he struggled with. but we knew hala time daytime mario was going to come we were gonna see him. so it's very heartbreaking to know what happened to my brother, not only that he's been barry but my mother has got any answers. >> i mean, what you have described has been the experience of so many families who are struggling with something very similar, except for what you are specifically going through mary and that is many had the chance to either say goodbye or to at least know where their loved ones remains are for a proper burial. do you know where your sons remains are right now?

>> i have been told that he's in pauper's field buried. >> benjamin crump i want to bring you in here. there are so many questions and concerns and unanswered questions for this family knowing that he is in this field. the exact location not exactly known, not known for months where he is. and i asked for comment, i wonder when jackson police department and the coroner's office said cnn copies of the reports. the jackson mayor's office declined to comment. what are you asking for from authorities because many people have this question. what should've happened here and why wasn't it done correctly? >> well laura, as miss mary his

why >> comical? >> the prosecution played audio -- well because the prosecution played audio of him in a rant claiming that he is a great man, he wants this english white women to act like caretta scott king or michelle obama. he's showing up to the court dress like a extracts from judas and the black messiah, like he's in the black panther holding a bible as a god has been hiding and now found jesus. all of the testimony that we heard thus far is immaterial into we hear the driver. he said, she said story, he has his narrative, the defense is laying it out saying she really wasn't injured, she was the aggressor, she went out later to party. they have video still footage of her at a bar. she's claiming that she didn't feel the pain right away. we've got the text message on the phone that she took from him, that he tried to wrestle back. all of this is so ludicrous you

would think it was the script of a movie except that this man, who is 34, and this young woman who is 30. he could really not only loses his career, he could lose his freedom. so yes it is the theater of absurd, but when you look at the elements it's comical in that, it is ridiculous. until we hear the driver and what actually happened, until we hear what actually happened from the driver. what are we supposed to believe? are we so's to believe this man, who they've got on tape. are we supposed to believe this woman, we got video footage of? you are the lawyer lawyer, how do you make heads or tails? >> i am. part of that of course the prosecuted a number of domestic violence allegations my career, i will tell you, the she said, well, she said, he said he said cases, come down to that very idea the object of third party person who was witnessing it.

we're trying to talk about that in a court of law, but you rightly point out should boone, that a lot of this because high-profile nature of the accused, is talked about in the court of public opinion. a lot of cases like that for this reason, are settled outside of court. the fact that he is willing to fight this, of course he does have the presumption of innocence, the potential caution may have that prove their case full stop. he's going to publicly fight this shows that he is determined to such an extent, that it might raise doubt in the court of public opinion as to his guilt at all. is that enough, to say they must be innocent if they fight it? >> it should brace doubts in the court of public opinion. i must r whawe normally see to your point, this gets settled outside of the public eye. but this man is already lost millions of dollars from movies

that have not been, he's been cut from, or aren't going to run. ads that have dropped him. he is fighting for his livelihood, and not being imprisoned for a year. he is willing to fight and show up at least says to me that he believes his size of the story what i caution everyone is let it be adjudicated in court let us hear from the driver at least a hopefully impartial third-party cause we're never gonna get the complete truth from mr. barr, or from jonathan majors. they have their own reasons to tell their sides of the story, and the court of public opinion we want justice is ephemeral, we don't really know what justice looks like, in a trial like this. what we want is accountability. if she is telling the truth, that he should be punished. but if she is lying, then let her be held accountable as well. hopefully the driver can shed some light on to it, the court

of public opinion, if you are an advertiser, you've been cutting's salary, you've been cutting his checks. if you believe her side, or you just want to distance yourself from what looks bad, from a man who is so much bigger than this woman. the court of public opinion, at least where the money lies, has been been believing her side of the story. we shall see, when the driver testifies if it holds up. >> we will see all of that and the due process that is supposed to extend in a courtroom, and the presumption of evidence and, the prosecutorial burden, very different than when there are business decisions being made, particularly the area of metoo. i don't know if anyone's convinced that just because you fight it means you are innocent. we will see ultimately how this is going to pan out, and whether there were statements made closer in time even without a driver, or anyone else, that might show more credibility one way or the. other segun, we will be watching. thank you all for watching
