tomorrow's new hampshire primary is really do or die for nikki haley as she takes on donald trump for the republican nomination. we are going to tell you who has the advantage in a new cnn poll. rejecting hamas hostage deal. his opposition to a solution frustrate israel's allies. plus, a potential medical breakthrough. a new test that could make it much easier to diagnose

alzheimer's disease. we are following these major developing stories and many more are coming in right here to cnn news central. thank you so much for being with us this afternoon. i am boris sanchez at the nation's capital. on the eve of the new hampshire primary, it is officially a two person race. nikki haley has a one-on-one matchup that she has wanted with donald trump. florida governor ron desantis dropped out of the race over the weekend. this morning, nikki haley was asked if she has enough time to capitalize. >> absolutely. we started with 13 people. i had 2% in the polls. we finished iowa. we want to be stronger in new hampshire and stronger in south carolina. keep in mind, i know the political class wants to say that this race is over. i know the political class is
10:03 am
saying everybody needs to get behind trump. this is not a correlation. you had 56,000 people out of 3 million in iowa vote for donald trump. less than 1 1/2% of that state. we have not even started with this election yet. >> she sounds pretty confident but actually, the latest poll shows the former president returning to his double-digit lead in new hampshire. were going to break down how those numbers could shift with ron desantis out and endorsing trump but first, our reporters on the trail, kristen holmes. trump is expected to hold the final event before the primary tonight. what are you hearing amendment? >> you just heard nikki haley saying the political class wants to say that everyone should mine up behind donald trump. that is exactly what donald trump's campaign is saying and what they are trying to show. they will be on stage. donald trump with senator tom scott as well as vivek
10:04 am
ramaswamy. all who have gotten in line and are following donald trump. his and observation, a way for them to try and show that the republican party is uniting behind the former president. obviously, that list is missing somebody big which is ron desantis. i am told that trump and the florida governor have not spoken since he dropped out of the race and endorsed trump. however, trump's team did reach out to ron desantis's team and offered somewhat of an open invitation to campaign with the former president at any time. they did not get into specifics on tonight's event but that is really the name of the game right now. that is their messaging. they are trying to put out that the republican party is getting behind donald trump. it is time for nikki haley to drop out and make trump the nominee. >> nikki haley has been stumping throughout the state today. what is her closing message? >> has been competing,
10:05 am
campaigning in new hampshire incredibly hard. today, over the weekend, having so many events at coffee shops, bars, schools. everything that she can do to get in front of voters. today is her first full day on the campaign trail as it is turned into this one-on-one race between her and president trump. that is what her team wanted. now she has gotten it. the stakes are incredibly high. new hampshire presents uniquely fertile ground. there are independents who can vote tomorrow in the primary. they make up 40% of the electric in new hampshire. that is a group that she does well with. ron desantis dropping out, her team feels that they might get a little bit of support. we should note that he has already endorsed trump. there are questions about where that support will actually go and if it will make any difference, given how low ron desantis was pulling. when it comes to nikki haley's message, we have heard it time and time again. focus in on the fact that there needs to be a new generational leader. she is positioning herself,
10:06 am
casting herself as that leader and also really drawing in former president trump with president biden more closely, casting them as leaders of the past. listen to what she told some supporters in new hampshire earlier today. >> when you hear trump speak, what is he talking about? grievances? the past? he's talking about then that is? today he is in court? biden is talking about investigations? neither one of them is talking about the future. >> when it comes to her attacks on former president trump specifically, we've seen nikki haley rep is up in recent days, going after trumps mental fitness which is something that she did not do throughout the course of this campaign. there are questions about the former president more
10:07 am
aggressively out of the gates on fox news. she was asked about that and she double down on her strategies. saying there were so many other candidates in the race. she had to get it down to a one- on-one race. her job was not to go after trump from the beginning. this is a marathon, not a sprint. when you talk to her supporters and new, they say that she needs to do well. they don't she needs to win to keep her campaign alive. listen, she's got a come within eight competitive position with the former president because the future of her campaign could depend on it. >> be it. let's head to cnn's omar gimenez. after weeks of nikki haley really cutting into drums new hampshire lead, the latest polls have trump expanding his lead of it. how does ron desantis exiting the race impact things? >> one would think that ron
10:08 am
desantis exiting the race, all that support would go to trump. it does seem that based on drainages in polling, there might be a little bit of both but it does not change the fact that nikki haley, based on the cnn polling, is still down by double digits. with of voters in the final week the support counts for ron desantis not being in the race. people that backed him but then also, these numbers reflect support going to their second choices. donald trump, 54%. nikki haley, in previous polling, is there difference in support between haley and donald trump. with donald trump, 71% of conservative or self identified conservative that donald trump while only 1% of self identified moderate back nikki haley. then when you look at the first
10:09 am
choice for primary nominee among undeclared or independent here, nikki haley carries that. was he present while donald trump takes the 7% of people who are within the gop. that is really the split. it is also why some may worry that because of this unique dynamic in new hampshire or independent can vote in the primary, will that translate down the line? president trump is trying to make sure it does not. stacking up endorsed from key figures. nikki haley's home state, trying to stack that deck against her. for her part, she has said she is not letting that intimidate her. she has raised $500,000 in the last 24 hours since. she is ready for that fight but a major task once this primary gets underway tomorrow. >> thank you so much for that. we do appreciate it. let's discuss this now with conservative new hampshire radio host jack.
10:10 am
thank you so much for joining us to talk about what is happening up there. all eyes trained on new hampshire. what are you hearing from conservatives about ron desantis dropping? how is this affecting who they may be casting their ballot for? >> a pleasure to be with you. i think is your last reporter says, it cuts both ways. i would not over read the departure. i think the timing was all that is surprising. i have sat here before on the eve of primary days. the secretary of state is calling for a record turnout. 322,000 votes tomorrow. that is a lot of non-trump boaters as well as republican primary voters. every member john mccain with george w. bush sitting in a manchester hotel room the eve of the primary expecting a 20- 30 point win. mccain clocked him. last time around, biden thought he was going to do better.
10:11 am
bernie sanders and the team beat him. i am not saying there is a surprise but what i am saying is new hampshire likes to send a surprise. a lot of independent voting. the surprise would not be a big trump win. your poll has 18-19 points. my stupid suspicion, that is a little aggressive. trump goes in tomorrow with 10- 11-12 point edge. if nikki haley can get in the single digits, that would be a big showing and the governor has changed his tune going in tomorrow from she does not need to win, she needs to do well to get momentum. last week, he told me she could win. i think it is trump's to lose but new hampshire likes a prize. >> since trump, and it is a good reminder, certainly, jack. that we have an idea of what voters are going to do. we've been taught that lesson a time or two and it is always an important reminder for
10:12 am
ourselves. unexpectedly has court today, how should he? should he be in new hampshire? >> he was here a lot this weekend. going to be a nice show on the morning live right out of the gate. nikki haley is going to be on as well. obviously together. while your last reporter was talking, i think that is important for your team to look at this tomorrow. trump is trump. he has not moved much. he's got a solid republican primary base. we have never seen a time recently where the democratic national committee does want does not want new hampshire to come. they are not encouraging democrats to vote after telling them not to. just about 88,000 democrats may vote. that leaves a whole swap of independent and undeclared who can vote.
10:13 am
i am really doing a happy dance to vote for biden. if they come over and but for nikki haley, i think needs about 65% of all of those to go with trumm's hold in the republican base. his voters are like concrete. i suspect it's going to get a little tighter. still trump's to lose but different dynamics. >> she does have a strong showing. as you say, that would be in the single digits. it is because of that, what you have just delineated their. democratic leading independent and independent showing up for her. what does that say about what new hampshire means the national picture? >> new hampshire is an independent state. it used to be a republican state and then became. our entire delegation is democrat. we are very independent state. a lot of people moved into this state and brought their politics with them.
10:14 am
we have a republican governor. we appeal more in the general election in our primaries. donald trump does not lose any votes. you know that. it is like concrete. he is like a goalpost on the football field. the question is, new hampshire is more like a general election this time around. a lot of independence can vote. that is nikki haley's only chance to make this a question going further. if trump wins big tomorrow, 15 points or more. this thing is probably over even though it goes into south carolina. i think the only real test of trump going forward, ironically, is not south carolina, it is new hampshire with a lot of independence and undeclared who can vote. if he wins big, i think he is off and running. anything less than 10 points, you folks in the national media are going to look at that and say wow. maybe nikki haley's got a chance. a longshot but maybe has a

chance. >> we will wait and see what this independent state determines tomorrow. looking forward to seeing what the beef candidates say on your show in the morning. thank you for being with us. >> thank you, breanna. in the biden campaign putting abortion rights front and center in the 2024 race. any minute now, vice president kamala harris is going to mark the 51st anniversary of roe v. wade with a speech in wisconsin. we are going to bring that you live. in georgia, a judge is hearing arguments on whether the fulton county d.a. should be forced to testify in a divorce proceeding. by that could have a major impact on the elections case that she is pursuing against trump. we will be right back.
