writer, producer, keegan michael keene, but first after months of campaigning and $200 million spent on advertisements, it looks like we may be light back -- big sigh, right? >> yes. >> right back where we started. it's shaping up to be a trump versus biden rematch, but nikki haley, despite consecutive losses in iowa and new hampshire, says she is staying in the race. everybody always says that until they don't, but she says she's staying in the race. the former south carolina governor is back in her homestate tonight holding a rally and trump is using the freshly engaged senator tim scott to help make sure haley doesn't have a home court advantage. look at this. >> did you ever think that she actually appointed you, tim? and think of it, appointed and you're the senator of her state and she endorsed me. you must really hate her.

south carolina when she was the governor, it's definitely over, definitely over, but listen, we're going to have the same thing we had a few years ago. it's going to come down to biden and trump and it's going to be interesting. i think the most interesting thing is going to be who he picks as vp. i personally think he's going to take a woman. >> you don't think tim scott has a shot? he says he's not. he was on "cbs mornings" this morning and said no, he's not campaigning for it. he's very happy with what he's doing. we'll see, but he seems to be from take lot of people's point of view campaigning for this position very hard. >> yeah. i don't dislike tim scott. >> no, i don't dislike him, no. >> but i just don't personally think he's going to take tim scott. i think he's going to take a female, just my personal opinion. it will be interesting, though. but the notion if he picks a black guy that we're going to rush out in droves, that's not going to happen. i don't like to speak for all black people, but i am going to do it right now.

give him grief for not being on team trump . the base of the republican party is for trump, like it or not. >> i got friends who love trump and they say to me his policies are better, but the noise that he makes, you can't get past -- people like myself who wouldn't vote for him, they says you got to get past the noise and look at the policies. >> and they like the policies. >> they like some of his policies, but they think because some of the words you said, he's coarse, he's a bully. he's loose with the truth, but

they said if you actually pay attention to his policies, some of them are pretty good, agree or disagree? >> you are making a critical point about how trump survives. you asked some of his supporters, they're the maga base. they think january 6th was a setup. they think he won the 2020 election. they repeat and believe his lies and believe and like the coarseness in the fight, but a decent farther of the trump base are hard working americans who are so disaffected with politics they don't trust washington to do anything. one of the fisherman, commercial fisherman in new hampshire, trump opposes the wind farms they want to put offshore. he believes it will put his job off the map. that's what he believes, blue collar guy, works really hard, wanting to start a family. he thinks trump is the only guy that's going to save his job. he looks around and nobody else mentions his business, so he votes for trump. people have made this transactional decision i don't like a lot of this, but i'm

busy anyway. i won't pay attention to this stuff, using a polite word, and this guy will help me. the creation of trump is his critics, within the republican party and democrats, are not giving these people who are disillusioned, disgusted and worse with politics, they aren't giving them an alternative. >> on the other side they aren't actually jumping up and down for president biden either. >> president biden has a giant problem. you were saying you don't think black people will rush to vote for trump. however, it doesn't have to be a rush or parade, only has to be a tiny percentage in milwaukee and detroit and outside atlanta and trump can win the presidency. i was in michigan a few weeks ago. this israel-hamas war, young people viscerally angry at the president outside of detroit, in michigan, dearborn's part of it, in michigan you have 300,000 voters who traditional

the white house. >> that was 2003 you were talking smack. >> you talk about forecasting the future, if i'd known in 2003 when i did the interview it was going to be crazy as hell in 2024, but listen, i want to ask you this -- >> quick point. remember ross perot got almost 20 million votes in 1992? >> yes. >> the disgust with both parties, the dissatisfaction with trump versus biden the rematch, there's a giant opening, right now the green party, if there were a perot- like figure or dwayne "the rock" picture, his voters perceive trump to be authentic, there would be a giant opening for someone authentic. i do think after this election the third party candidates are going to matter, but you'll see a restructuring of the party and maybe more people running like hey, i'm an independent like you. >> you were looking for another job, charles. >> one more question.

immigration is obviously a big problem. >> huge. >> the economy is a serious problem and biden's age. which one of those three issues do you think are going to be the most important part coming down the stretch? >> there is some evidence inflation is a little better. his problem is working class people were so punished in 2022 and 2023. they're still driving their old car, couldn't take their kids to the ballgame or amusement park. i know what that's like when your parents have to say no, there's no money to do that. that's when you feel among blue collar voters. biden has to hope people start to feel better about that, but the age question, i call it the vitality issue. i don't think it's so much about the number. the young voters on campus, they want to see him in the community even if you got to take your lumps and say mr. president, i disagree. what are you doing for me? they want to see him be more active and again, whatever you think of trump, he's active. he's out there. you hear from him about every

>> even ryan said today, you can't have barbie without barbie and without the director. while he's very appreciative of this award, he made a point of paying tribute to his costars. i didn't understand that. there would be no picture without margo. >> which is why they're both nominated as producers in the best picture categories. i don't think of it as complete snub because there's also the best adaptive screen play nomination that greta is getting this year. she's been nominated as best director before. i'll say this. there's another snub i'm keeping in mind for best director who -- salene song who directed "past lives." all the conversation we're having about greta and margot being snubbed, what about taylor? >> i realize you can't nominate everybody. she was already nominated before.

i don't think that should matter. you should be judged on what's happening here. >> don't you think that? >> i hate to make up. we had cord on the show and he had two nominations, obviously best picture -- three, excuse me. you got sterling k. brown and jeffrey wright. i love jeffrey wright. he's unbelievable. >> yes. >> were you surprised -- first of all, have you seen the movie? >> that is something i have been -- i'll say this. >> my question is if you got two guys nominated by oscars and best picture, you should get nominated for best director. >> the movie didn't direct itself.

victory has become overshadowed in this moment as well. i think it's an important conversation, but it's also part of a larger very important conversation. >> we want everybody to watch the oscars, but i'm going to pay -- how you can go to a movie and people tell you what's going to happen next. an oscar just going to be a ceremony to celebrate oppenheimer? >> i'll say this.

i will say this every time i open up tiktok i'm seeing some sort of super cut edit of people obsessed with kilian murphy. >> you saw "oppenheimer," didn't you, charles? >> it's the best movie i saw this year. i'm a big movie guy. i thought it was amazing. i really always worry about long movies because sometimes they seem like a long movie. that movie did not seem like a long movie and even though they got so many nominations there could have been another three, four, five. francis pugh was ridiculous and amazing. florence, excuse me, she was flat out amazing and i'm sitting there like man, this movie is long. it's fabulous. it's going to be a coronation for "oppenheimer" in my opinion. >> i think so. >> i'm still feeling some kind

"king charles." we are very excited to talk to our next guest about the story that you could say has captured the nation's hearts and your mind, too. you might know him from the emmy and peabody award winning sketch comedy series. we remember this key and peele or maybe from movies like "wonka" and tv shows like srmigadoon, but now we're seeing him in a role he's never played before, the role of a happy detroit lions fan. he joins us now from las vegas to talk about your team, keegan-michael key, the lions are one win away from a super bowl. did you ever think you'd hear those words? >> hope springs eternal inside of me. i always hoped i'd hear those words, but i didn't know when

it was going to be. i am absolutely over the moon for what is going on right now for our detroit lions. we have this young team that is so talented and so resilient, much like our city, i'm kind of in a dream state. >> key, i just got to say this, number one, i'm a tremendous fan of yours for all your success, number one, continued success. i can't believe i'm talking to you about the detroit lions out of all the questions i want to ask. >> you can ask. maybe i can come on the show another time and you can ask all those other questions after we win the super bowl. >> i fell in love with the detroit lions. i have a man crush on dan campbell. i know nothing about dan campbell, but i'm like i play football one day. i want to play for dan

campbell. what do you think? >> i want to play for dan campbell, too. >> that would be coach campbell to the audience. we know him. >> that's right, coach campbell. we should call him coach campbell. i think that what he has done for that city and team has been so amazing. the culture that he's established for the team, he calls it grit and i think grit is one of those terms that can be described in a bunch of different ways. i mentioned before resiliency. resiliency is one of those things dan brings to the team. he keeps them mentally strong and i think those young man would do absolutely anything for him. he sprinkled his magic dust all over that team and city. i'm so thankful to the owner of the team and her staff for

hiring dan. there's something really special about him. he's a natural born leader. he's amazing. >> help us understand your love for this team. i was watching the game last week when michael strahan gave you a shout out. he announced the detroit lions victory and said, "i'd like to congratulate keegan-michael key like you had something to do with it. explain your love for this team. i find it very touching. a lot of people feel the way you do. >> yes. i think a lot of it has to do that i've loved this team since i was a kid. i remember going to friends' houses and watching the games when we were young in the '80s when we had a really good team in the '80s and there's something about the blue collar hard working nature of our city that this team reflects and the city has been through so much in its history.

you think about its past and the auto industry and how it revolutionized how business is done and it revolutionized the automobile in and of itself. things like the riots and us coming up from the ashes and us always trying to fight and fight and fight to get over. i've watched my city come to this place where there's a rebirth and the team reflects that rebirth. the team is following suit to the city and it's really inspiring. >> the last two weeks i've been out to sports bars. where the hell did all this blue come from because it's crazy? >> in all cities. >> in all cities. >> detroit versus everybody,

yeah. >> you said it. it's detroit versus everybody. everybody loves an underdog story and we are an underdog story and i think the big thing is i'm just going to say it. we are the new america's team. i really feel like detroit is america's team. detroit reflects this hard working honest energy that you can see across our nation and people have really, really caught onto it. >> have you run that by dallas yet, america's team? >> i've not run it by dallas, but i got a feeling we can give them a run for their money. >> if it happens, keegan, you saw jason kelce last week at the game where he just went shirtless in freezing temperatures. there he is. >> freezing temperatures, right. >> would you do something like that? >> i don't know. i don't know. i'd have to think about it. >> you'd have to think about it? >> i'm going to go to the game in san francisco. it might not be as cold. maybe i'll think about doing

object of abuse from fans online. it was so bad, guys, that bass had to deactivate his twitter and instagram accounts. the word is that he was getting death threats. people were razzing him, saying all kind of negative, nasty things about him. that broke my heart because it's not like he intentionally missed the field goal, that people could be so mean. >> one of the reasons i don't do social media is for that reason. i don't have any social media because people are so mean- spirited. >> they are. >> they're j total jack es. he didn't try to miss the field goal. i think people have liquid courage when they get behind the keyboard and you factor in people betting on these games.

that really makes it worse. it's unfortunate. it was a heck of a game. i felt bad for him because you knew they were going to come at him on social media. >> i didn't think they would be that mean to him. >> oh, no. there's all type of death threats. we talk about it earlier this year. some of these guys are getting racial slurs hurled at them. >> yes. >> my thing is hey, you would not say it to guys with their face. you do it in the confines of your own home with a keyboard. >> did you ever have a time you were playing you screwed up? >> many times. i'm so old we didn't have social media. >> that people came after you? >> i'm old. you know what i mean. no, i never had to worry about social media in my day and i'm blessed, but still even if they had it in my day, i'm not trying to play bad. >> i just say if anybody threatened you, they would regret it because he would come after you.
