tonight on three 60, nikki haley's answer after the president pressured drop on of the waste no defeat last night in. hampshire also tonight -- will be facing in november with the new hampshire results suggest about the former president strong week. links >> later florida government matt gaetz inclusive reporting in the house ethics committees reached out to the woman he allegedly had sex with when she was a minor. >> reporter: good evening thanks for joining us we begin tonight with nikki haley speaking for the first time for since losing new hampshire with a case she is now making first staying in the race, for home state primary in south carolina amounts for. now we'll have that shortly governor haley speaking tonight in the wake of her second place finish in new hampshire, or crushing defeat at the former president put it last night on social media. he's also referring to is former u.n. a bass nor, as nikki bird brain haley. which is his victory speech
9:02 pm
last night with a fashion critique. >> when i watched her in a fancy dress, probably wasn't so fancy. what is she doing? we won. she did the same thing last week, but he was much more angry about it than i was. >> former president also trotted attacked accuses before on his mentor, the disgraced attorney broke cohen perfected, baseless innuendo. railing against the people prosecuting who suggests without any evidence at all that nikki haley has something to do have to hide from them. >> these are very dishonest people they're always fighting them just a little note to nikki, she's not gonna win. but if she did, she would be under investigation by those people in 15 minutes. i can tell you five reasons why already. not big reasons, little stuff that she doesn't want to talk about. but she will be under investigation within minutes.
9:03 pm
so again offered no evidence, par for the course, that's always treats isn't any. it's also how he treats his friend, consider the public m&a should he dumped on south carolina senator tim scott, who was smiling behind him. who certainly never attacked trump when he was running, he just endorsed trump over nikki haley who appointed him to sandusky when she was governor. the last night the former president twist of the night and senator scott just because he can. >> did you ever think that she actually pointed you tim? think of it, appointed and near the senator other state and she endorsed me, you must really hate her? no. it's a shame. oh. >> i just love you. humiliation that is the price on a mission for senator scott, who is auditioning to be vp for the former president. join us now haley supporter, republican party chairman
9:04 pm
coordinator caitlin. dawson i know you support haley's decision to stay in the race. what evidence ruc, or do you see any that she's poised to somehow slow the former presidents moment and in south carolina? >> anderson couple of fact and figure, thank you for having me back on you know how much i admire your show, and professionalism in journalism. let's give some numbers here. we have 62 delegates that been picked at a 2367, 62 that's all we got. i don't think republican party would be helping itself by saying, we have 420,000 people voting, and we're gonna coordinate donald trump is our president. he's not an incumbent president that is due the fact that you don't have to do these primaries, he lost. he lost in 2018, 2020, and 2022. he's got a record of losing nikki's path this thing is just started we just got rid of the
9:05 pm
door the dozen or so that we're running we needed to have a race where it was nikki haley and donald trump, so we can possibly get him into a debate, which he's not gonna do. but he should. the republican party is gonna do nothing to force him to do a debate but they should. now we've had about five days where we've got a one-on-one race, pretty close. new hampshire has ten counties, south carolina's 46 counties, and 5,300,000. so we've also increased anderson, 400,000 people since 2017, that are pretty solid republicans we've got 32 days and a lot to talk about, nikki haley doesn't think vladimir putin does beautiful letter or the dictator northward as a good guy. we've got a lot of work to do, but really excited to have him back on our home turf.
9:06 pm
south carolina. i know you are bothered by comments that the former president made about haley last, criticizing addressable things, implying that if she were to win to be under investigation. do you think those remarks rally people in south carolina? >> i thought. yes. i thought those were cheap shots, inappropriate and he enjoyed humiliating senator scott, he enjoys humiliating senator lindsey graham, he enjoys this to make himself look bigger stronger and better. along with that bleach aaron orange skin he has. we're gonna do the same thing, we're gonna critique him as he comes to south carolina. this is going to be a contest. anderson you have been here before. this is, we're gonna test his mettle, we're gonna see exactly how it is, he is not one south carolina yet. ambassador haley said
9:07 pm
something similar to what you said about delegates, i just wanna play for our audience. >> but the political in this state, we need to let donald trump have this. . listen, we've only had two states that voted. we have 48 more that deserve to. go [applause] a presidential candidate has to give 1215 delegates, donald drop has 32, and i have 17. [applause] does she have, the money to keep going effectively in south carolina? the list of politicians in your state of mind up against our, tim scott, the governor, henry
9:08 pm
mcmaster, both senators -- >> all of my friends, these are all my friends everybody i did business with, everyone i helped elect. i just haven't been with nikki haley. nick he's never been kowtowed to the political class. she's always looked out for the taxpayer. i don't expect a lot of politicians to phone in line like they have with donald trump that are looking for something, are looking for favors or whatever. at the end of the day, nikki's gonna look out after the taxpayer. south carolina's there to be reminded of that. we have the money anderson, because nikki has done the work. we've outlasted, outraised and built a campaign that is made to last. we don't throw our money away. nikki works hard, and we have a chance. there's three people in this race, joe biden, nikki haley and donald trump. one of those three is going to
9:09 pm
be president? katon dawson, appreciate it as always thank you. i want to bring in three political commentators, robinson's former deputy assistant to biden, and former communications director alyssa -- . he's gonna be optimistic, what do you make of her chances? >> it's a steep road ahead for nikki haley, i want to say this. she is the most political talent of all 14 candidates running in the gop primary including donald trump. a woman who's a two term governor, former u.n. ambassador, she's come up from behind before. the problem is the nevada primary is rigged in his favor, the super tuesday are winner-take-all, meaning even if she comes in striking division, donald trump's gonna get delegates, it's hard. nikki haley is a fundraising juggernaut, she can get enough money to sustain herself. here's the problem, this is donald trump's republican party. she can spend 100 million dollars on the airwaves in south carolina, it will
9:10 pm
marginally move the needle against donald trump. it's a different animal than what you first got into politics. scott does she know, does she have a better idea now that the chiefs to beat donald trump than she did 48 hours? ago >> i don't see how, what we've learned in new hampshire there aren't that many persuadable republicans. if you look in the split inside the examples, republicans have made up their mind. she did bring out some on affiliates, independent people who really don't like donald trump. those populations probably don't exist misstatement that they exist in new hampshire and other states. alyssa, you brought up the number 100 million that's about how much your super pac spent already. she's finished third and second. at the end of the day, it'll be the republicans that decide who the nominee is. although i fully admit she is saying things that are adaptively true, she's making politically strategic smart statements, that i'm sure a lot of people agree with. but the people who vote in republican primaries, have made up their mind on their guy, it is donald trump right now. i fail to see what argument
9:11 pm
could be formulated now that already as we thought of. i want to play something else that nikki haley said about donald trump. >> bring it donald. show me what you got. i voted for donald trump twice, i was proud to serve america in his administration. i agree with a lot of his policies. but rightly or wrongly, chaos follows him. you know i am right. chaos follows him. [applause] and we can't have a country in disarray, and the world on fire and go through four more years of chaos. we won't survive it. [applause] . you don't defeat democrat chaos worth republican chaos. what do you make of her chances? >> she is absolutely right,
9:12 pm
chaos does follow donald trump. listen, i think if you're nikki haley, stay in the race. why get out? four years ago she -- >> she's actually person you don't have as vice president? i'm >> happy for her let that go out. but four years ago joe biden ran for president, he got beat in iowa and new hampshire by bernie sanders, he came back and won south carolina and the rest is political history. if your her why get out before if you get to south carolina, let's mix it up see what happens. the trick is, can she raisin of money? can she make making the arguments? can she hold everything together to see if something happens? we've seen a lot of things happen in the last eight years that people thought would never happen. including donald trump getting elected president the first time. someone with 91 counts running this time. even joe biden wedding last time, he had won twice before it didn't work out. we keep seeing things happening that we didn't expect, from nikki haley stay in the race is like a lottery gotta be in it to win it. there was, gary tuchman
9:13 pm
last night did a focus group with voters in south carolina, and to people of both mentioned something that nikki haley said last night intersect of about the ages of president biden and donald trump. do you think that was a mistake of? her >> she has to address it, it's both of their greatest vulnerabilities, bill clinton has been out of office for more than 20 years and he still younger than donald trump and joe biden. when the biggest voting blocks are gen z and millennials people are disenfranchised by what we're looking at the two options for president. i want to know one thing, the untold story of last night, yes trump won. it was a bad night for donald trump. he underperformed is margins of 2016, and he showed that he is radio active in a general election. he's bleeding moderates and independents. to jamal's point, we live in an under practical environment. i think this time four years ago, covid was just coming into the country. we don't know what the next years going to look like. there is some wisdom, to let things play out and see where they go. let's stick around a lot
9:14 pm
more to talk. about what unelected biden and trump matchup might look like. when what anything about the voting last night will say about difficult trumpeter. later congressman matt gaetz has new indications that the house ethics committee will include sex crimes allegations he is facing.
9:15 pm
9:16 pm
9:17 pm
9:18 pm
president biden keeps up a key endorsement today from united auto workers, his campaign is shifting towards the general action, who he thinks he's gonna face in november? he left no room for doubt in the state many may last night, at the results of new hampshire came in. right from the first lady sat, this now clear that donald trump will be the republican nominee. if in fact that comes to pass, the question is what will a biden trump race look like? here is some new information gleaned from the iowa new hampshire results that may show how could look different from their last matchup, john king at the masters huawei's been for this 24. hours we are only two states in the nomination process, although trump and biden are looking to the general obviously. where do things down? today >> things stand governor haley still in the race, we should respect that you are close. even if she were the nominee, this is where the end of the last. game 306 to 30 to joe biden wins. since the santa fe real allocate electoral votes, that same outcome today state by state, it was 303 to 2:35, but
9:19 pm
this is the state of play where we start what could be the longest, the longest general election in our history. not too long for americans, forgive me why stretch this out. if you look at the polling governor haley is right when she says, she is a stronger candidate against joe biden right now. donald trump and joe biden read about, i'm no clear leader pull. the problem is republican voters are listening to her because they think he can still win, and anderson here's where we are. if you look at the polling in the states, you talked a smart people in the states. this was the map two years ago. most people tell you democrats might argue publicly not, privately. that are most definite cross the sun belt state, trump would win. yes that autoworkers endorsement might help. i was a michigan a couple weeks ago, young voters are mad at the papers, arab american in michigan are there fears. so for now, if it were tomorrow and it's not trump would win. i don't think there's any question about that. >> there is a shake up at the biden committing why vulnerabilities might be focused?
9:20 pm
>> this is the chance, think of your house biden right now if you look at this coalition as issues, he's got a leaky roof. the foundation is cracked. he's got a lot of things to work on, let's start with issues. number one again forgive me for stretching this. out overall proven rating, this is a recently poll, 33%. arceneaux pulls a little higher about 36, that still historically low for incoming president at this time the election year. look at this number, only 31% of americans have proof of the job he's doing on the mark. and seven and send that means a lot of democrats and independents disapprove, that is the lowest number abc's ever had on this question. how is the president doing an immigration? 18%. on issues, the president has a ton of repair her to do. i call this anderson, the umbrella issue. it's hard to convince people, i'm doing a good job on the economy, on immigration, overall if they think you are not up to the job. look at this number, who isn't good enough physical house to serve? only 28% of americans think the convent president of the united states isn't good enough physical health to serve. to get people to say, maybe i'll think again on the economy,
9:21 pm
on immigration the president has to get them to think again on the. obviously trump's dominated the republican race so far, in all the early contest numbers. what does it show? is there any sort of interesting information in? there >> we are seeing trump's strength for the republican base, were seen in the very same result some of trump's weaknesses. their big weaknesses heading into the general election. let's look at one, mexico for 90 new hampshire. about 44% of the electoral independents, nikki haley got six and ten of those, 39% of the votes. it's new hampshire people say well it's particularly peculiar election justin that say so. 58% of independents going to nikki haley. that's good news for joe biden in november. a lot of independents in the states that are close to 50 50, they don't want donald trump. without a doubt. no one other one we saw, factor in the assets of new hampshire, but follow me as we go through this. is he fit to be president? if he's convicted of a crowd? this is among people voting in a republican primary last night. 42% said no.
9:22 pm
again, this roughly matches the trump candy horse race. it's easy to say these were haley voices, they're in the fight last night they said no. it's probably right to do great, let's assume that number even comes down the. if it's five or 10% of the republicans a state like michigan, wisconsin, georgia and arizona. that's a liability for the president interview ninth you convicted there's evidence for seeing it, some republicans would walkway. we will release you from the wall comes there with the panel. well john comes are here, is in a normal campaign, with a normal candidate, or a non-trump candidate. i assume that somebody that has the legal trump says you will cancel him don't even pay attention to nikki haley that's probably not possible for donald trump? >> he made a mistake last night. he could walk out there and said this race is over, i appreciate all my opponents. i appreciate ambassador haley, all republicans are welcome to join, let's go beat joe biden. he just couldn't do it. the haley purely went out in
9:23 pm
early and tried to bait him into the reaction. he took the bait. and now we're gonna fight it out, he's gonna fight it out for another month. it was a strategic mistake, it might not of coaxed her out of the race. but if you're thinking about what shawn just showed us, to change the map and win the election complaining about nikki haley stresses not on the top concern of issues the american people are worried about right now. >> certainly, donald trump is a deeply undisciplined character, despite as we've all measured he does have a professional operation, the most professional he's ever had. he's gonna get in his own way, nikki haley is clearly staying in this. the words that she spoke tonight, that is not someone who's like you know what i might drop out of these vice president. that is not what she's looking to do. she's gonna stay in the way to put a hammer to, to come after him in a way that she failed to in the final stretch of her campy. you're gonna see react to that, he's incapable of not. that is what the 32% of republicans who said they can't
9:24 pm
vote for him in a general action, that's the reason they can't. do you think the argument that haley makes in general in these polls iv biden, does that resonate? >> in normal times it would, in the before times, before donald trump those kinds of things would work. in the before times he would also have done some say this is my obvious vice president, i get all the republicans, she gets so many of the moderates and independents together, where peanut butter and chocolate. we can make this thing work. but that is not what the world that we live in now. donald trump is looking more for someone who's gonna be loyal to him, and not do what mike pence did. he can't possibly trust nikki haley to stand up for him that way. what do you think a campaign looks like by trump and biden's that who attends, up covid sort of was the specter that dominated how the campaign was waged? >> you make a key point there, joe biden won the presidency because of the moment, the american people said -- we need an adult. we need an adult because he
9:25 pm
lost the first three democratic contest. instantly he was revived. because in that moment in the country, is there another moment? is there something that happens between now and the election where people say we need joe biden, that adult again? maybe? trump's movement. trump is still a movement. nikki haley is trying to pull him back to the old republican party. that party's debt. if you want to show a head of him republican that takes the issues and gets rid of the drama. that is dead. that is the challenge for biden, that is a traditional campaign, you don't have a pandemic, trump was the incumbent. do you like your cardio on a new? car right now people don't like their car. enough people are so disaffected and disillusioned with politics, even those don't like the trump drama they think i'm not getting anything from the traditional politicians. he will at least close the border. he'll at least do something the arcana me. democrats get mad about that, the economy clients in economy intra. voters vote their experience,
9:26 pm
not with the experts tell them or what they think the elites tell them. that is the challenge for biden. he must, if he's gonna get in a position to win he must spend the next months repairing the cracks in the space. there are many of them. there's plenty of time to do it. to his credit, joe biden has been declared dead before, the same people who say their argument the white house, the same people say account winner, the people is that i was done after i won new hampshire. to a degree that's true, but he is the incumbent now an issue history, that i don't like it to make it about age, it's about vitality. i've been traveling, black voters among milwaukee, democratic voters in nevada, they wanted to be active. let us talk to you. we like you respect to, you kick donald trump out of the white house. but where are you? >> how confident with the campy to put him on the road for seven in az events a day? i was the secondary. >> in this environment you don't have to do that anymore, where we're starting to feel the president do you think that a more interesting. we talk to the white house, what they will tell you expect to see him doing things that
9:27 pm
are more evocative images. one-on-one, him and small groups. he went to a family's house, you talk to a gentleman who had had a student loans forgiven. that gentleman's kids put out a tiktok video that's been viral all over the democratic web. figuring out how to talk to people, in this new media weight. i think that's going to be incredibly important. >> everybody thinks just ahead, cnn exclusive on the house of ethics committee and congressman matt gaetz, new developmental who they are hoping to talk to regarding alec geishas of sex crimes. former president expects to be back in a new york courtroom tomorrow, the question is testifying in the second defamation cry and author e. jean trial, what did he actually stay? after being found guilty of sexually abusing her in civil court last year?
9:28 pm
9:29 pm
9:30 pm
9:31 pm
and a cnn exclusive, a source familiar with the house ethics committee investigation of allegations of six crimes against republican congressman matt gaetz suggest the probe might be heating up. you may remember there was an justice department investigation -- plus after the ouster of former speaker kevin mccarthy, for mccarthy said gaetz was anchor with him because of the ethics community probe. i'm joined now by -- what have you learned about what the ethics committee is doing? >> of around the ethics committee has done a new round of outreach. we have reached out to this
9:32 pm
woman who was safe and taint when she allegedly had sex with congressman. gaetz they've also reached out to justice department the, seeking material from its years long investigation into the congressman. the investigation into the congressman actually began under trump appointed attorney general bill barr, and went on for several years. expanding beyond the allocation of just six with this underage girl. almost looking at possible sex trafficking, possible lobbying politician, as well as obstruction of justice. last year -- they did not pursue charges. and in response to the fact the ethics committee is looking into what doj, did as well as reaching a councilman, the congressman told us, quote, those allegations were not true, have not been true, and the people who spread those lies have been exposed, indicted, and imprisoned. >> jennifer, does the doj have to comply with the committees requests for documents? >> they do not anti probably will have because nothing was ever charged. here submit hurdles gathered as far as the criminal investigation ordained confidential. shop is a price if they give
9:33 pm
them really anything worthwhile. they can do their own investigation. they can defeat witnesses, apparently they're trying to do. click documents via subpoena and all. that but they won't get what doj heads. >> they won't, even though it's congress -- a committee and congress asking? >> likely. not asked that charge something, and the materials had become public, but the referee careful with materials that to make their way into the public realm. if you don't, charge it deemed it wasn't worthy of charge and so you don't want to smear peoples names but turning over evidence. >> the committee is controlled by republicans. it started under the house democrats, though. >> yes, it started in 2021. but when that justice department investigation became public, they don't have to yield to the federal probe. when the federal investigation wrapped up last year without any charges, that was revised. and gaetz has told people privately, he blamed than how speaker kevin mccarthy for a little the ethics probe to be resuscitated and mccarthy has said publicly he thinks gaetz's
9:34 pm
frustration over this ethics probe is what he led the push to get mccarthy out of the speakership. doctor, see even in a post speaker mccarthy world, this investigation not only continues but it appears to be ramping up. >> i want to ask you about the aging carroll circle to finish on trial in new york. the former president is expected to be back in court tomorrow. is he going to testify? >> great question. much will tell me he is still expected to testify. but ends, with simmons. before right up at the last-minute, for one reason or another, he decides not to. but what absence of her in this case as he and his like, ultimate they've been trying to use it to amplify this idea he's a victim of an unfair system. and the widest on that, here they sort of manufacture drama overnight following the rules of federal court. here, if he does testify, there are parameters he has to stay within. his value as a quickness and a damages case, pretty narrow here. but is not expected, hit state
9:35 pm
within these parameters. the judge will have to try to keep him in. line that's going to set up controversy and that is the goal. they want to get into it with a judge. >> jennifer, is there any reason why he wouldn't get up and start to say things which he did not hit it for this, which the judge has already said he can't, site just to get into? that is there any penalty for him? >> there could be. the judge could sanction him. the judge could potentially stop his testimony, presumably embarrassing him in front of the jury. could to a whole series of things. >> that wouldn't really embrace him in front of the jury he cursed about, which is public opinion. >> yes, but how he behaves badly, especially a pace abusive to the judge in front of the jury. they really lacked that triage. they followed the judges and strong trends. that's the person that takes care of. them when you are made to the judge, juries don't like that. you could end up with higher punitive damages -- if he behave that way. >> what's the schedule here, paula?
9:36 pm
>> about two days. the reason i say, that aging carroll, they have to wrap up their. case trump, if they justifies, will be one of maybe two witnesses. then you have closing statements, jury instructions, and deliberations. remember of the trump back in the spring, it was formal complicated because they were also considering allegations of sexual abuse, defining, and images. >> this is just about damages. >> and it only took a few hours. i remember sprinting several blocks to get to the camera for that verdict. here, it shouldn't take that long because there are just focused on damages. i wouldn't expect this to go beyond just a few days. but we also have this question of what delay this, what's that you are doing, does anyone have covid -- but i would expect it to the rack of the early next week at the latest. >> thanks very much. up ahead, what's up with the oscars and barbie? marker robbie overlooked, greta gerwig shut out -- can get nominated. ryan gosling is speaking out, ahead.

take a look at video taken and such a rough day of a military cargo plane crashing into the region bordering ukraine. not much is known about who or
9:41 pm
what was on board when the plane went out. russia said 74 people were on board, mostly they claim ukrainian p.o.w.s. ukraine denies that claim -- matthew chance has more. >> reporter: this is the moment that russian military transporter plunged from the skies. and i witnessed gasps as a huge orange fireaeable billows from the ground. russia says the aircraft was shot down and whatha't confirmes russian boulder ridge and is an active war zone. i was clearing the snow when suddenly there was a loud bang, says this russian eyewitness on local tv. there was an explosion in the sky, he says, and i got scared. across the florida's crash site near the russian city of belgorod, twisted metal debris is strewn across that wider area.
9:42 pm
but with human remains. ukraine says the plane had a cargo of missiles heading to the front lines. but russia insists the aircraft was carrying 65 captive ukrainian soldiers on route to a prisoner exchange. cnn can't independently verify either claim. i feel pity for everyone, says this russian woman who saw the plane go down. my own grandson is fighting in our special military operation, she says, and all of those on board probably have people waiting for them, as well. and recent weeks, ukraine has been stepping up attacks across the russian frontier. hurting an oil terminal near st. petersburg with a drone strike last week. nearly taking out russian strategic long range radar detection aircraft slant near

the border. and the russian-controlled city of donetsk, and eastern ukraine, officials say at least 25 people were killed last weekend and a ukrainian bombardment. meanwhile, on russians live television, commentators have condemned the latest shootdown saying it was ukrainians killing their own. this was yet another premeditated criminal act, which does not surprise us, says this former russian general. it's not retain behavior, he says, by the kyiv regime. but kyiv says, if ukrainian prisoners of war were on board ahead of and ask change as moscow claims, they were not informed and that russia may have deliberately put their lives and danger. our chief global efforts correspondent matthew chance joins us now. what are russian officials saying tonight about the crash? >> anderson, russia is clearly
9:44 pm
trying to use this instant as a way of painting ukraine as the aggressor, even though of course it's russia that staged that full scale invasion of ukraine about two years ago. one russian official describing it as a park attack. the shutdown of this aircraft is russia characterizes it. the russian foreign minister speaking in new york at the united nations earlier going further, saying it was a terrorist act. but the truth, us over the past couple of weeks, as i mentioned in the report, there has been a big upsurge in cross border strikes but ukrainian forces in russian territory. and even though ukraine hasn't formally set at that, this it does seem like the latest iteration of that strategy. >> and what does president zelenskyy say? >> he's in a difficult position because of originally your cranium tolerance was saying this was an aircraft that was carrying munitions, missiles to the front line. in which case it would have been a high-profile target and of course a legitimate target.
9:45 pm
they have not quite clawed back on that but they have said they're looking into the possibility, or looking into the whereabouts of the prisoners of war who are going to be swapped later on in that prisoner exchange antics cold for a full international investigation to find out exactly what cargo, was it human, was at weapons, are important aleutian 7x plane that crashed near belgorod in russian territory. anderson? >> matthew chance, thank you. we'll be right back.

barbie has eight of court nominations, though there was outrage that films director of greater cowrote snapped in the best director category. also margot robbie, barbie, for best actress. the film is distributed by cnn's parent company. all of this is leading to backlash --

numbers. did they get robbed? >> and my soul i believe they got robbed. if you look at that mathematical models and there are those who predict who is likely to get nominated and who will ultimately win the oscars -- if you look at them, what you saw was both have a majority chance of getting nominated. right around 75% for both director and ankara. of course, 73% and 74% are not one president. so i'm surprised but not shocked. >> what about the history of women nominated for best director award? that's been cold at time and time again. >> it's pathetic. it's pathetic, anderson. that's the only word, right? it's only nine out of 240 times out of 1976, i say not hinton physics, because before then there were no woman nominated for best director. and you know, this, i think, also goes to the fact that there are a lot of opportunities that have been bypassed for women. that is, they haven't in fact been put up to be directors for

a lot of these films. and i think it's big to a larger problem within the industry, we are woman on a vote of the opportunities to be directors on this big films and the time to actually do, they were snubbed. >> the voting, when does the voting actually take place? >> that's what i'm really excited about. but nominations occurred throughout january. and now there's four weeks between then and the vote, which will have been vibrate for the second. what i'm curious to see is whether or not all of this outrage actually impact the way they go and vote. remember, both margot robbie and greta gerwig have no management and other categories including best picture. so i wonder if they watch and observe this frustration, and it changes the way they vote in the. and >> no secrets, former secretary of state, senator hillary clinton put out a statement -- while it can sting to not take home the gold, --

you are ken now. >> -- people want to watch the oscars because the level center can for people be retained. i said let's actually go to boost viewership because they want to see whether or not better -- greater and barbie, margot robbie say anything when they do acceptance pages and other categories. >> and if you look at the trend line in terms of people watching the oscars, it's been going down, down, down. we saw a little repent coming out of covid but it isn't like the nfl, are we seeing ratings, people watch on sunday. it's been an award show where people tune into. maybe the controversy can boost the viewership, and and that way i think the oscars might welcome that. >> what are the chances of at winning this picture? >> this is the other thing to keep in mind. so important, looking at the oscars, generally speaking. barbie was a film that was fairly well refuted but wasn't the critics choice, necessarily.

and this is something we know when we're looking at this picture in years past, especially morey simply. you might think, okay, as a film does really well at the box office, are we, number one domestic box office, your think, okay, that's going to be the film that is best at the oscars. that used to be the case. we used to say this real sort of correlation between the film that at best at the box office and those that did best at the oscars. but what we see is that they're trained from 19 80 to 2008, 11 -- i know this is confusing -- >> i don't know what you're saying. >> they don't like comedies, anderson. they're so biased toward dramas and the things so from that companies tend to case not but the academy. >> why didn't you say it like that? >> hold on, comedies to kate's not, that's true. that's what i think robots issues. it's also the case they don't like forums that necessarily do. will the films winning oscar's most presently are not necessarily the films that have not won -- well at the domestic box

office. critics moving away -- your covid made us look like reformist. >> i'm about to pass. at >> what i'm trying to say is here essentially the critics or disagree with what audiences are saying. >> that's true. >> i'm glad we can end on that. thank you, we'll be right back.
