not. >> i got friends who love trump, they say to me, his policies are better, but the noise that he makes, you can't. people like myself, who wouldn't vote for him. they say you've got to get past the noise and look at the policies. >> they like the policies? >> they like some of his policies, they think that some of the words you say, he's course, he is a bully. >> he is loose with the truth. >> but they say, if the you pay attention to his policies summit pretty good. agree or disagree? >> you are making critical point about how trump survives. you asked some of his supporters, the of the maga base, they think january six was a setup. they think he won the election, they believe in repeated lies. they believe and like the coarseness and the fight. but a decent part of the trump base our hardworking americans who are so disaffected with politics, they don't trust washington to do anything. one of the fishermen, i've been spending a lot of time within

the new hampshire, commercial fishermen, trump of poses the wind farms offshore, he think it's gonna take his job off the map. but that is what he believes. it's a blue collar guy, he works hard, barely pairing is mortgage, think about starting the family. he hates all the other stuff, but he looks around and no one else is is talking about, that no one else mentioning is. business people made this transactional decision, i don't like a lot of this but i'm busy anyway. i won't petition to that stuff, i will use a polite word. this guy will help me. , part of the problem here is the creation of trump. it's his critics, within the republican party in the democrats are not given these people who are disillusioned, disaffected, disgusted worse with politics. they are not giving them an alternative. >> i was gonna say, on the other side they're not actually jumping up and down for president biden either? >> president biden has a giant problem right now. you don't think white people are gonna rush to vote for trump, i tend to agree with you

based on history. however it doesn't have to be rushed, it doesn't have to be a parade. only has to be a tiny percentage in milwaukee and detroit, and outside atlanta. trump can win the presidency. i was in michigan a few weeks ago, this israel-hamas war, young people. this really angry at the president. outside of detroit, in michigan. dearborn is part of it, and michigan you have three 400, who traditionally vote democrat, they are furious. wherever you look, the president has cracks. or worse in his base. we're having conversation in january, he's got until november. you list your problems, he's got a lot of it. >> if things have gone differently would be sitting here talking about you. not necessarily for president. do you remember this chongqing? >> governor charles barkley. we have evidence. >> listen, >> we have evidence let me see. >> you mention in the past that you thought about running for

the rock johnson, if there's independent candidate who is authentic like trump. a lot of people said trump is not authentic. his voters perceive him to be that way. , there would be a giant opening. we are too late in the season now. ballot access routes, everything that it takes. after this election, either third-party county are going to matter. , how many make in the battleground. you're gonna see restructuring the power, and maybe more people running this immigration is obviously a big problem, the economy is a serious problem. biden's age. which one of those three issues do you think are going to be the most important part coming down the stretch? >> there's some evidence that inflation is getting better, his problem is the working class people were so punished, so punished in 2022, 2023, they're still driving their old car, they couldn't take their kids to the ball game, the amusement, par coming from a working class, family i know what that is like when your parents have to say no. there's no money to do that.

that is what they feel in blue collar voters. biden has to hope people start feeling better about that. the h question, i call it a vitality issue, i don't think it is about the number. when we travel, black voters in milwaukee, voters and campus around the country, latino voters, they want to see him. they want to see him in the community, even if you have to say mister president, i disagree with you on, this is what you do, but they want to see and be more active. again, when you think of, trump he is active, he is out there. you hear from every minute, not just every day, just every minute when he wants you to hear. >> when you talk about vitality, is certainly has that. thank you, john. it is a good way to look at. it is not the age of vitality. >> the president. >> even when you talk about the economy, and let's say the economy is, better but if you don't feel in your pocket, it doesn't matter. it does not matter. >> thank you, john king. >> good to see you both. >> just ahead, did they not understand this movie? that is the question. can, lance an oscar nomination for barbie, but barbie doesn't. how, ryan gosling said there is no can without, barbie his right about that. we take into the snub that

>> i will say, this it is not -- it is not a snub. i mean, look there are so many incredible movies that came out this year, there is only five directors that get nominated for best director, five actresses nominated for best actress. so it is stiff competition. i will say this. i will say this. this is the, thing wind goslyn knocked it out of the park as. can margot robbie was amazing, but ryan, gosling i mean -- >> but even brian said today, ryan, i thought it was a classy, he said you can't have barbie without barbie and without the director greta. while he's very appreciative of this award, he made a point of paying tribute to his costar's. i did not understand that. there would be no picture without margaret robber -- >> there had been no picture without, them which is why they are both nominated as producers in the best picture category. i don't think of it as a complete snob, because there's best adapted screenplay nomination, greta is also getting this, year she's also

been nominated for best director before, and i will say, this there are -- there is another snap i'm actually keeping in mind for best director, who is -- directed past lives. in all the conversations that we are having about credit gerwig being snubbed, or margot robbie being snubbed, what about saline song? what about someone like gianna taylor or -- >> she was very, good very good. >> so i realize you cannot money everybody. she said, she was already nominated before, i don't think that should matter if you are nominated or not before, you should be based on what is happening -- don't you? >> i hate the makeup. we had -- and he had two nominations, obviously best picture, three excuse, me you have sterling k. brown, and i love jeffrey wright. he's unbelievable. were you surprised, first of all have you seen the movie? >> i have seen, i loved it. >> why did he not get a best director nod?

>> if you get a best picture nod. >> now see that is something -- >> also, my question is, if you got two guys nominated for a oscars, and best picture, you should get nominated for best director. >> that movie did not direct, itself same thing with barbie. >> the same thing i also say with a saline song, it is something i do think about. i feel like part of the reason why we end up in this tricky places because there are ten movies allowed to be nominated for best picture -- >> and only five. >> only in the other category. so it is a little frustrating, when you have all these other movies that are in the mix for best picture, it is like what was wrong with the script? what was wrong with the director? this performance? but when we only focus on barbie, which i think is perfectly normal for maybe the production team, or ryan gosling to feel upset or slighted by that, i think we also use the opportunity to talk about so many other great movies that were nominated, or actors that were nominated like america ferreira, one of a very

small group of latino woman to ever be nominated for an oscar, and i think her victory has been overshadowed in this moment as well. so i think it is an important conversation, but also part of a larger very important conversation. >> okay we -- eye you can go and people will tell you what happens next, but oscar will be a ceremony to celebrate oppenheimer? >> now i will say, this i will say -- >> i think my money is on oppenheimer for best picture. i think my money is on oppenheimer. it just feels like between the glorious summer that it had at the box office, and everything going on with all of -- every time i open up tiktok, i'm seeing a super cut at it of people being obsessed with kylian murphy. >> you saw oppenheimer, didn't you? >> it was the best movie i've seen this year. i'm a big movie guy. i thought it was amazing. you know, i really always worry

charles, we are very excited to talk to our next guest about the story you could say has captured the nation's hearts and minds as well. you might know him from the amin peabody award-winning sketch comedy series, we remember this key and peel, or maybe you know from movies like wonka, and it tv shows like -- i just like saying -- say it charles. i like that. now we are seeing him in a row he has never played before, is playing the role of a happy detroit lions fan. he joins us now from los angeles to talk about your team. key, and it's just one game away from the super bowl, did you ever think you would hear those words keegan michael key? >> gayle, i have to tell, you i hope spring's eternal inside of me, so it's hoped i would hear those, words i just did not know when it was going to be. i certainly did not know it would be in 2020, four but i am absolutely over the moon at

what is going on right now for our detroit lions. we have this young team, that is so talented, and so resilient, much like our city, and i am -- ayman disbelief. i am in a state. >> you know, key, i have to say this, number one, i am a tremendous fan of yours. for all of his success, number, one continued success, i can't believe i'm talking to you about the detroit lions. out of all the questions i want to ask -- >> you can ask, maybe i can come on the show know the, time we can ask all those other questions. >> that would be good. >> i fell in love with the detroit lions, i have a man crush on then campbell, i know nothing about dan campbell, but i played football one day, i want to play dan campbell, what

just really special about him. he is a natural born leader. he is amazing. >> help us, keegan, understand your love for this team. i say watching the game last week when michael strahan even gave you a shout out, when he announced the detroit lions, he said i would like to congratulate keegan michael key like you had something to do with it. explain your love for this team. i find it very touching, but a lot of people feel the weight you do. >> yes, a lot of people, i think a lot of it has to do with the team, i have loved this team since i was a kid, i remember going to friends houses and watching the games, we were young, in the 80s we had -- and there is something about the blue collar hardworking nature of our city that this team reflects. and the city has been through so much in its history, when you think about its past, the

auto industry and how it revolutionized how business is done and it revolutionized the automobile in and of itself. things like the riots, and us coming up from the ashes, and us always trying to fight to get over and i've watched my team and city i should say come to this place where there is a rebirth, and the team reflects that rebirth. the team is now following suit. it is really inspiring. >> you know, the last two weeks i have been out to sports bars, because you know you want to make sure you get to watch both games with your friends, where did all this blue come from? it is crazy. >> in all cities. >> in all cities. >> detroit versus everybody. >> yes, you said, it is detroit

versus everybody. everybody routes, everybody loves an underdog story, and we are an underdog story. i think the big thing is, i'm going to state, i will just say, it we are the new americas -- i really feel like detroit is america's team. detroit reflects this hardworking, honest, energy that you can see across our nation. people really caught on to it. >> have you run that by dallas yet, america's team? >> i'm not run it by dallas, but i got a feeling we could give them a run for their money. >> so if it happens, keegan, you saw jason kelce last week at the, game where he just went shirtless. and, what was, it freezing temperatures? >> freezing, temperatures right. >> would you do something like that? >> i don't know. i don't know. i would have to think about it. >> you have to think about it? >> it might not be as cold, maybe a will think about doing it.
