frankly expected to keep working well past midnight. they're making the claim that he's committed high crimes and misde misdemeanors. what they're not working on is stopping people from coming over the u.s. southern border. they could be meeting to discuss the bipartisan bill negotiating by gop senators, a bill that republicans and democrats say would be the strictest bill in decades. why are they not doing that? because trump said it would be a gift to the radical left democrats. so trump's lemmings are getting in line. >> i heard speaker johnson saying it's absolutely dead, which is what i wanted to hear. >> it's a nonstarter as the speaker said. >> it's not going anywhere. >> it's not going anywhere, but they're drafting an impeachment

reporting on the border deal as the senators are coming back. what are you learning? >> reporter: there was a debate behind closed doors and senate republican leader mitch mcconnell about how and whether to proceed with this deal given the staunch opposition from donald trump, house republicans and the fact that there appears to be no path to get this into law despite the demands from republicans for years to do something at the border. john cornyn said there has been no decision about how to proceed, just a lot of discussion that we're stuck. in talking to senator republicans that endorse this plan, many are exasperated. they said there's no text of this and we're seeing opposition. you heard from keven cramer pushing back against the former president. i asked him about the expectation that house republicans could kill this

bipartisan deal and whether there would be backlash at the polls, he warns that there could be. >> here's what i worry about. if we don't try to do something when we have the moment to do something, all of those swing voters in swing states for whom the border's the number one priority have every right to look at us and go, you blew your opportunity. we were going to give you a shot and you blew it. i don't think that's a reward to us. if we don't try, shame on us. >> reporter: just so much uncertainty within the gop ranks. this comes as the house is moving to make alejandro mayorkas the second cabinet secretary ever to be impeached by the house. there could be a floor vote as soon as next week. republicans are telling me today they plan to get in line, but speaker johnson has very little margin for error in the razor

impeachable offense. do you still believe that or do you support the effort to impeach him now? >> i agree with professor turley that the impeachment clause is a narrow clause and it requires a high crime and miss demeanor or something equivalent to that. there has to be an egregious act that's like a crime. in my view secretary mayorkas has not committed that. i'm a no at this point. i'm open minded. i talked to constitutional scholars, former members of the house who understand the practice and procedures here. i've listened. i talked to the homeland security staff on why this impeachment should go forward. i'm leaning no, but haven't made a final decision. >> important, as you mentioned mr. turley and the point of view

he has there. you could be doing a bad job, but it's a narrow standard and one you're saying hasn't been met. >> erin, can i interrupt? >> sure. >> one of the reasons professor turley has such credibility is he was a no on both of president trump's impeachments and i voted no on both of those . i look for guidance from processor turley. >> congressman, right now others in your party in the house are spending time working on this resolution and not talking about the border bill. obviously we heard republicans saying the bipartisan senate immigration bill is dead on arrival in the house, those are the exact words being used. do you believe that this bill -- you heard gop senator kramer saying it will be on republicans if this does not pass, that that will be a betrayal. do you think this bill should be

voted down or moved ahead? >> i think it should definitely be debated on the floor and given a vote on the floor. i have no idea what's in it, nor does senator kramer or any other house member. saying it's dead on arrival is premature and unfair. i would like to say that there are plenty of laws on the books that can be enforced. president biden could have remain in mexico a strategy that president trump had. he could have agreements with q guat guatemala, honduras and el salvador. i want to see more legislation and legislation that's effective. >> i want to ask you, congressman, you ehave been a straightforward, the former president's role in this. he said a border deal now would be another gift to the radical democrats. that's what he said. he said that the other day. in recent days, just in the past

they've made nearly 10,000 trespassing arrests. kristen says they're simply dismissed. >> it's been a $10.5 billion temporary and harsh detail to the asylum system. >> reporter: since operation lone star started almost three years ago governor abbott has continued to escalate the number of state troopers deployed to the border. state officials say operation lone star has turned over nearly 500,000 migrants and led to over 35,000 more serious felony charge. >> we deployed more national guard, thousands, than ever before in the history of the state. >> reporter: according to federal immigration data, the number of migrant encounters has increased overall since operation lone star launched in march of 2021. the texas governor's office points out that other states on

the southern border, like arizona and california, have seen much sharper increases in migrant encounters than texas. this state representative once supported operation lone star and says the $11 billion price tag hasn't been worth it. >> the numbers have just continued to increase. we have to answer to the texas tax payers. i don't think it's enough what we're doing. as a matter of fact it's gotten work. >> reporter: morales represents eagle pass, the epicenter of the ongoing fight between state and federal authorities. texas authorities have taken over a public park and are blocking border patrol agents from accessing the area. the state installed miles of razor wire along the rio grande. texas sued the federal government from allowing federal agents to remove the wire.

west bank hospital? >> erin, thanks. as you mentioned, there's a lot of details don't know. i would like to understand more before i pronounce judgment one way or the other on this. there's a lot of factors at play in this. this is not a war zone. there's reporting of an imminent attack, militants using the hospital for their own purposes. i do acknowledge it appears at least one of them was in a hospital bed. you know, the israeli forces in this case going undercover to protect themselves. there's a lot that has to be looked at. i don't know if i'm ready to announce this as -- we need the details on this. >> president biden earlier as

again. if she gets out now and husbands her funds in hopes that something happens that forces trump out of the race, then 10,000 people will jump in. she has to stay in there and accumulate delegates. she's worked very hard. she deserves to be the nominee. she's the most qualified. she is the person that can beat joe biden. donald trump i remain skeptical will beat joe biden. just your last segment, the idea that people are fixated on taylor swift is one of the dumbest things i've heard. you don't become president by worrying about taylor swift. you become president by telling people how you'll make their lives better. you don't become president by telling me you don't want people like me. >> there was a trump donor who gave him $1 million for legal fees. >> i didn't see that. >> he agreed to donate another $20 million to the main pro trump super pac. what do you say to that?
