was the right decision for me. and i think that we have this stigma that certain individuals tried to push about who the abortion patient is. we need to have a more honest and accurate conversation about the abortion patient you showing that you had the procedure you had the abortion yesterday. how are you feeling? i mean, this is i mean, i mentioned that you're in the middle of it, but this is truly happening in real time. in this environment that we know. i mean, an arizona is a huge conversation around. it's a 15-week ban in arizona and alders conversations about it being a near total ban, but sharing this so publicly, this doesn't happen very often. senator how are you feeling? >> to be honest with you, i'm feeling really good. i'm feeling so lucky to have the opportunity to hopefully i'm potentially make an impact
5:01 am
arizona as a swing state, we are really right in the thick of this conversation about how does health care impacts the voice that voters have? and i'm just so hopeful that people will really be able to take this conversation and that it will translate into action that people will be more interested in the political process. there'll be more interested in their local elections and in what they can do to move the needle in the right direction. my experience at the clinic yesterday was was really as good as it could be. i felt so welcomed. i felt like i had all the information that i needed. i felt like i was getting such superior care and i felt i felt fine a little bit crampy and of course it's disappointing to be in this position again, but i got my dad struck and we went to the drive-through and i i went home and sat on the couch surrounded by people who i love and i have felt good since then. >> i'm happy to hear that. i'm really happy to hear that. >> i noticed you told the washington post that you your

office did that when you were giving your speech, when you're talking about your story on the senate floor, you saw some of you your colleagues figure republican colleagues leave the chamber during your remarks, including the top republican in the state senate, have you talked to any of them since the speech this week about about that about this moment? >> no. i've had a number of people reach out to me, none of them have been my republican colleagues, but i think we also have to look at the landscape of the legislature right now, even though we only have a one seat deficit in both the house and the senate, that's not how the legislature is really operated in arizona. none of our bills get heard. none of our bills a barely ever make it to committee. i've had one bill be heard in the last two legislative sessions, so there's not an accurate representation of the people of arizona in the legislature because that's not how
5:03 am
republican majority leadership is running the legislation later they're running it like it's a monopoly. and the people of arizona are not being heard. so i'm not surprised about the outcome of giving that speech. i'm not expecting things to change within the chamber. i'm expecting things to change in arizona i'm expecting us to make the difference because that's the only opportunity we have left state senator have a birch. thank you for coming on >> thank you so much >> so what's the one thing a presidential campaign wants almost as much as winning cash on hand. president body has a lot more than donald trump right now. at the very time in his business empire, people are asked me if trump might declare bankruptcy >> armed >> dangerous and on the loose, a frantic manhunt underway for an escaped inmate with time i used to whites of premises

exist on the fundraising front as well. he is lagging behind biden in fundraising. his campaign could reported that it had raised a lot on with the joint fundraising committee 20.3 million in february. now that is a slight uptick from what had raised in january, and that is what the campaign is hoping for. they are hoping that now that he is the nominee, that there will be republicans who have been on the sidelines. we have been behind some of these other candidates. they're going to say, look, the job ahead is to defeat joe biden. we gotta get behind trump. there's no other path at this point. and so we need to start getting put putting our financial resource to behind them into that point. he is holding a fundraiser next month in palm beach. were sources tell us many of those donors, many the largest republican donors will be in attendance and trying and to help president both donald, excuse me, president donald trump catch up to this fundraising advantage that biden has because we have seen so far some very strong numbers from the biden side of the
5:07 am
campaign finance ledger between his his various forms. they have funds that have $53 raised last month, 100 and $15 million cash on hand. obviously, that's well ahead of where trump is right now >> steve. thank you very much. john >> you know, uh, texas center, former tech center filled grams. so the best friend to have in politics is ready monday. and right now the candidate who's got that is president biden. let's get right to seeing them white house correspondent priscilla alvarez on the biden campaign plans going forward, priscilla >> well, they're going to use it to build out their campaign infrastructure. as you heard from some of those numbers, fundraising has been a bright spot for the biden campaign and it is reflected in what we saw in the filings overnight. that is, again, the $71 with the binding in the biden campaign account. they fund raised 53 million. last month and all in all $155 million with the affiliated committees. that's a pretty strong outlook for the
5:08 am
biden campaign as it's ramping up in this election season. and again, building out more offices, hiring more staffers across the country particularly in those battleground states that president biden only narrowly won in 2020 with these numbers don't yet reflect, of course, is the 10 million that were brought in 24 hours after the state of the union, which was another moment that the biden campaign highlighted. now, of course, last month, just to remind viewers, president biden, what did do a west coast swing? were he did fundraisers. it was also a month where the biden campaign felt that the rematch between president biden and former president donald trump was crystallized, bringing in more funds to the biden camp. so all in all, the president is going and continuing his travel blitz, continuing fundraisers in texas last night and with even more on the horizon for one event that may be the biggest fundraising event ever. that's next week in new york. were president biden will be alongside former president bill

clinton and barack obama. so clearly the campaign just continuing their efforts to shore up those ones, knowing that it's going to be a close it's raise and those funds are going to be critical to paying for those, digitalize those tv ads. and all the rest. john, right now they have big money. what they would like is big or bigger poll numbers to be sure for sale, alvarez, thank you very much for all that >> so police are now asking for help to find an nfl player who was on the run, wanted on a domestic violence hi linda warrant. we have new reporting on that in a family on a hike become stranded and stuck in the snow. >> how a phone >> feature saved them and police say he used someone else's boarding pass to get on a flight and then hidden the bathroom. he's now in trouble clearly. but why he says he's not onboard leaks cia secrets. valerie plate, >> valley plane draw are playing. >> lives were at stake yes. my

different flight, but it was overbooked police say they were viewed the security footage at the airport, which showed floor reserved in the boarding area, taking photos of multiple passengers, phones, and boarding passes when they were not looking the criminal complaint also says flores heard one straight to the bathroom once he got on board the plane, came out after the plane pushback from the gate and then was questioned by a flight attendant. and this is what the criminal complaint says. floors are indicated the flight attendant that he was in st. 21 the flight attendant verified that the passenger who is in c 21 was the person who had purchased and been ticketed for that seat. and it was not this menn why cliff floors are so there's clearly created a lot of confusion on board the plane flight attendants were able to figure out that he was not on their manifest. but remember this flight had already started taxing, so they had to returned to the gate. the police were there, read him his miranda rights they say floors are then told them that his original flight bumped him to a later flight that he was

simply trying to get home and made a mistake. he's now facing one count of stowing away on a vessel or aircraft. and was the last time that was charged, it can carry a prison time up to five years. it's not clear yet a floor has an attorney that we're trying to get in touch with them, kid >> just make it clear. so he was able to get past the gate agent, but to get to that point, he got past tsa because he had another boarding pass. even though he's not using it he actually had a buddy pass on southwest airlines. that's what he told police which enabled him to get through the gate or sorry, get through tsa and then onto the gate. but he said that he wasn't simply able to get on the flight that he wanted to get on. and so he tried to get on this different flight on delta. that's when he started taking these pictures. clearly it's a very clear case of a criminal issue here, although it doesn't really seem like he had criminal intent, we will wait to hear from his attorney about that >> yeah. i mean, just not a good idea. not a good idea. is the answer there. but it is, it

5:23 am
than expected. and there had been this fear that, that might throw the fed's expected rate cutting sctle off course that basically, if inflation wasn't daft i don't as much as the fed had anticipated it would be then maybe they would put off those rate cuts. we heard yesterday that that's not the case, at least not this year. federal reserve chair jerome powell essentially said that the inflation story hasn't changed very much. if you look at their forecasts, the forecasts of the offense officials, they suggest that they still expect three rate cuts sometime this year, future years, different story, it looks like we may not get as many cuts in the future, but for the time being, still on path, which essentially means that there's more money going around. there's, there's more liquidity in the market gets generally tends to be good for stocks, >> people do tend to like money the alternative headline to fed
5:24 am
says it will still cut rates this year, might be inflation can still come down. inflation will come down without a recession, which is a pretty good headline. >> yes. >> so as i mentioned, you can look at the >> fed officials forecasts and they have suggested a couple of things have changed in the future. some other things have changed. >> just this year >> relative to what they were expecting a few months ago, the fed is expecting much stronger gdp growth this year lower. unemployment, and a number of other good news essentially for the economy, the upshot of all of this is that that feared recession that had been in the news. and on a lot of market analysts lips, not too long ago, does not seem to be in the site looks like the economy is going to come tinea remaining strong. again, inflation still were a little bit uncertain about but it looks, it looks likely that the economy is going to continue remaining strong and that we're going to continue adding jobs for awhile
5:25 am
which again is good news for most people or catherine, you've done some really interesting writing. the last several days on the situation that donald trump is in having when you come up with half 1 billion by monday what does it tell you that no one's coming forward and saying, hey, here, have a half 1 billion i mean, would you lend him half $1 billion if you hadn't at your fingertips >> probably not. >> and there are a number of reasons for that. one of which is that the collateral that he wants to use for that. what's called a surety bond, which is sort of like alone it's his, real estate. and the very thing that he got in trouble for is broadly bluntly inflating the value of his real estate so of course, you may not trust the valuation of those assets, but even beyond that, this is a guy who proudly talks about how he often doesn't pay his bills and if you'd becomes president again, furthermore, it would
5:26 am
become almost impossible to collect on those bills. one might reasonably fear that if you did try to collect from this potential once and future president that he might sick the treasury on you or the doj and i'm not i believe hypothesizing about this. trump has said as much that he would go after his perceived enemies using the powers of the state and to some extent he did that in his prior term. so lots of reasons why he may not be the best borrower or the most compelling person to essentially lend money to in the form of a surety bond >> look, you would think if these organizations thought they could make money doing this, they would, they don't think it's a safe bet. >> yes catherine, did you not. and to be clear, yeah. go ahead. good >> i was going to say and to be clear, i think there's been a little bit of a misunderstandin g that there needs to be just

5:33 am
initially, it appeared that the whole thing would end with a ticket for trespassing but the officer changes her mind. now you're about to hear a part of that encounter. the video that you're going to see after this sound here, a warning is a bit disturbing now, you're going to take the ride today. i've decided that you're going to actually go to jail today or too many problems with you down >> absolutely not. we're getting all kinds of complaints can't be doing this there's? certain amount. of aid car >> all right. so you're now taking a look at a video inside of the back of a police van. were sanchez, mayan was placed in without a seat belt and taken to jail. the video captures at the moment that the officer comes to a hard stop at
5:34 am
a red light and sanctioned by un is forward striking his head on a metal partition. the lawsuit claims that the officer drove in a reckless manner at an unsafe rate of speed now, the third a piece of video takes place at the jail where all of this came to an end here. that is where the officer is seen trying to wake up essentia as mayan and drags his limp body out of the van, causing him to hit his head on the bumper. now, the lawsuit said that the injuries that sanchez, a minor and as suffered a left him a quadriplegic and resulted in the amputation of both legs above the knee. the suit accuses the officers of excessive force, intentional battery, and making a false arrest. john, these st. petersburg police department denied these claims and said that a quote, trust the judicial process disturbing allegations, they're carlos. thank you very much for that >> so an nfl player is on the

run. deputies in florida have been searching for detroit lions cornerback cameron sutton for nearly two weeks. he's wanted on a domestic violence warrant for alleged strangulation. deputy say a female victim was left with bruises to the head, neck, and upper body after an incident a few weeks ago, the lion say they are monitoring the situation. the lions say their money situation. >> a family of six is >> now safe today after getting stuck and several feet of snow near mount hood, in oregon, rescuers told cnn affiliate the cnn affiliate that the family was out on a hike when it happened on tuesday night. they really couldn't get themselves freed clearly from the snow. but then we're able to use the sos feature on an iphone to call for help. it took nearly 12 hours to reach them and even longer to get them to safety, were told they're all doing okay and john's favorite story for sure, you've still got a chance to win the powerball jackpot nobody wanted to. grandpa grand prize. and last night's drawing. so now the
5:36 am
estimated jackpot is up to 750 million. the next drawing is saturday and if 750 is just not enough, the mega millions jackpot is currently at 900 and million that next drawing is on friday. and i know you're buying a ticket job. you can lose too big lotteries in just one week >> larry, as we sit ago, about it. i love what these stories haven't i always play. >> hope springs eternal. you're always a winner. all right. there is a brand new poll of the presidential race out in it shows donald trump with one of the largest lead he has enjoyed in polling up seven points. that is occluding according to the respected pulsar and seltzer. so what's behind those numbers seen and senior data? porter harry enten is here. you have a little bit of the y, the y, why is donald trump ahead in this particular pole? and it really comes down to voters of color. i was digging through the cross tab
5:37 am
and i want you to take a look at an cells was pulled back in march of 2021 in which joe biden was hit by four points, obviously now, donald trump's a hip by seven. now, if you look here, march in 2020, among voters of color, look at that joe biden had a 45 point advantage. you look now at this most recent poll that an cells are put out in march of 2024, biden still leads among voters of color, but that lead has been slashed to just 11 points. there was just a three-point movement among white voters. the reason why down trump is leading now in this cells or paul as compared to four years ago, is voters of color. this margin dropping by 30 percentage points. john, i gotta be honest with you. i've never seen anything quite like this from one four-year period to the next. all right. dig deeper, dig deeper. so what is going on with voters of color? i decided to look at our last to cnn ssr the rest pulse, and it shows a similar pattern among voters of color overall compared to four years ago. why is this? why do we see biden doing significantly worse among voters of color? look at this among voters of color age 45 and older so as a significant
5:38 am
lead, a 35 point lead, look at voters of color under the age of 45. it's just a full court advantage. john xia state four point and then apparently my sleep courted a little bit just a four-point advantage for biden here. so what's going on in this particular cases, four years ago, we did not have the same split among by this age breakdown voters or color basically voted consistently among those older and younger. now we have a massive the split interesting enough to reverse, but that we have among white voters were voters of color under the age of 45 are significantly more republican. >> all right, when we say voters of color, that's a pretty broad group accomplices, many different things. >> it >> does. but so i decided to break it down amongst black voters and hispanic voters. and this is the polling at this point in time. take a look in march of 20 20 versus march of 2024. look among black voters, joe biden had a 72 point advantage four years ago at this point, look at where it is now. it's 50 points still a significant leap, but significantly smaller. and amongst hispanic voters, it was
5:39 am
21 points at this 0.4 years ago. now, it's just two points. so we're seeing it across the board. what's interesting there? there are statistically that's the exact same drop. it's about a 20 point drop among each group. that's exactly right. all right. what about the policies? the policies and president biden? yeah, the impact of this is going deeper into the why, policies have helped you personally among black voters, they 26% say trump's policies helped them versus just 17% for say biden's policies helped them. the same thing amongst hispanics, more hispanic voters say that trump's policies helped them versus biden's policies help them select poll and kind of just lines up here, john. and it's a big shift at something. honestly, i've never seen before. so the real question is, are the pulse picking up on something new and fresh, or the polls wrong? tend, to think the polls are right. but this is quite a dramatic thing. >> well, it certainly gives the biden campaign a >> clear target. yes, going forward and it says of what they have to do >> kate. >> thanks, guys. so biden is out west right now trying to reach out to just as john and
5:40 am
harry were talking about trying to reach out to latino voters in part making it clear how much he needs them this time around. here's part of his message >> here. the reason why enlarge part i beat donald trump, you know, we i need you i need you badly need to help comment and i desperately need feed your help. because look, there's only about six or seven states you're going to turn the outcome of election. they're toss-up states. this is one of them >> biden was speaking in arizona there another one of the state's important to biden's path to reelection is nevada or biden has been this week joining us right now, democratic congressman from nevada data dina titus, it's great to see you. she campaigned with biden when he was in the state thanks for coming on, congresswoman, the way the president biden put it was that nevada is really, really, really critical to the november election and his path to victory. >> among >> the critical voters in nevada and your district or latino voters what do you see in that polling that we just

highlighted with my colleagues there, the drop from march 2022, march 2024 of biden going from plus being up 21 points with hispanic voters to now just two points well, the polls are all over the math and we've seen some polls in nevada that aren't that bad, but there's no question we got to put that coalition back together. voters of color play a large part in that in my district, you've got a large immigrant populations from asia pacific islands, as well as hispanics. and so the president is saying straight out, you helped me when before you rejected trump twice in nevada before. and i need you again. and i think people will hear that message now you're going to have a contrast between the two candidates and the president's taken it on the road and i think that's a good thing >> one of those contrasts is on immigration policy and the way that they are talking about migrants. i mean, considering the way the donald trump talks
5:42 am
about migrants starting back in 2016, all the way up to just this week and the comments that we've seen from him calling migrants animals, and not even human. and then you see that he's still gaining ground with latino voters, not saying that's the only issue that latino voters would vote on. do you think there is a problem here though, that the biden campaign needs to address >> well, congress needs to address it, and there's no question that immigration system is broken. we've got to build out of the senate that's bad partisan the house won't take it up because donald trump said, don't take it up. we need to make this an issue, but he wants to make it an issue with white suburban voters, not with hispanic voters. hispanic voters in my district care about immigration in one house. so you'll have person with papers, a daca, tps, a person without papers and a person who didn't know what they are. so that's five problems and one house. so but spanning, voters care about what other voters care about. they care about a good job. and nevada is
5:43 am
creating jobs were the fastest recovering place in the country. they care about education for for their children, care for their seniors. so we can't just pigeon-hole them into immigration. we got to talk about the whole spectrum of issues and the things that democrats have done under president biden that have made their lives better? >> absolutely and i, wanted to ask you about one of those issues because one thing that we know, all voters, including hispanic voters, care about is the economy. there. their economy, their personal economy. >> and >> one thing that haven't dogging the biden white house and campaign is that many voters think that donald trump? we'll do better with the economy than biden has. >> is >> that issue what you think the outcome in nevada in november will turn on >> i do people care about jobs you got to remember we were the hardest hit of any place in the country. we had unemployment at 35%. that's now down to four and we're the fastest recovering, creating more jobs creating small businesses. and when people stop and remedy
5:44 am
remember with the strip shut down, nobody working, nobody traveling, and gambling. how much better are they today than they were the only person who's better today is donald from you're in a tough reelection battle facing the same republican challenger that you'd beat two years ago. part of the republican strategy that i've seen congresswoman is from the nrcc at least is trying to tie you to biden as much as possible in some of the things that i've seen having president biden at the top of the ticket. >> does that help you or hurt >> you in your district of cycle >> well, i've been riding with biden from the very beginning, so i can't start to deny that now, but he's been to nevada several times. the vice-presidency in some of the surrogate members of the cabinet. i don't shy away from that. i think we just need to tell our story better. talk about the investments in infrastructure, the investments in renewables we'll energy protecting health care and bringing them premiums. so i'm i'm proud to campaign with the president congresswoman dina titus. it's always great to

have you on. thanks for coming in. >> thank you. thank you. thank you. >> so coming up for us, they are calling it a massive theft. major league baseball's wealthiest player claiming his translator still millions from him for sports betting. what this means now for dodgers star shohei ohtani candidate who wants to run north carolina's public schools is dodging questions about pass social media commentary suggesting executing prominent democrats for treason barack obama, and that he should be executed. calling her the death of other presidents. do you stand by that do you, stand by those? >> sunday, a wrongfully convicted menn, freed after more than a decade. >> i can't believe i'm seeing you >> face to face with jake tapper reveals how i'll the legal system failed and is very personal quest for justice, the whole story with anderson cooper, sunday at aid on seat cracked windshield >> schedule would say flight and will come you to fix it.

you see that word no streaming exclusively on macs michele morrow not expected to win her republican primary race for north carolina's top >> public school official. then last week in an upset she did. when she did her extreme and controversial comments began getting more attention last friday, cnn's kfile reported on that and that she previously he asleep tweeted about wanting to see former president obama put in front of a firing squad on paper view saying, quote, we could make some money back from televising his death. morrow has also made suggestions about executing obama and other prominent democrats for treason, including then president elect joe biden replying to the question, will you follow joe biden's advice and wear a mask for 100 days? she replied, never, we need to follow the constitution's advice and kill all traitors
5:51 am
morrow has also promoted various q and on conspiracy theories. cnn has reached out to morrow, reached out to morrow and her campaign multiple times, but received no responses after publication of the kfile story >> morrow than >> tweeted and tweeted the following according to kfile, cnn's cnn politics obama's drone attacks on hundreds of innocent muslims in yemen are not treasonous. the insanity of the media demonstrates the need to teach k through 12 students real history and critical thinking skills, which does not directly addressed the multiple social media postings that we just listed. cnn's shimon prokupecz is in north carolina where he tried to speak tomorrow about all of this >> shimon. what does she say >> yeah. >> well, we tried to speak to her about this and we also try to speak to her about the things that she has said about the public education system like the fact that they are indoctrination centers that she wants a public school system that they should be destroyed.
5:52 am
and we finally caught up with her as she was leaving giving a gop convention at a local convention site and when she came out, we finally got a chance to speak for her to take a look >> hi ms morrow. how are you how did it go in there >> yeah. great. yeah. and good. who are you guys with? i'm shimon prokupecz on with cnn. >> have you been parked in my neighborhood by any chance? >> when trying to talk to me? yes. >> okay. >> well, you can go through my cell, but i have you now, so why don't we talk now >> no, no, not >> well, i want to ask you, do you still stay and i'm not talking to you, ma'am, do you still stand by your comments about former president barack obama and that he should be executed, calling for the death of of other president's. >> do you stand by that we're doing do you stand by those comments? have a good night. >> do you stand by what you've said about the public education system and that needs to be
5:53 am
destroyed >> no. do you stand by that? do you understand the concern that people have with this nomination? how >> do you vote in north carolina that keep your eyes on your own paper? >> well, let me ask you i i've read i've read papers. >> so here to keep your concerns, >> people have with your nomination and the things that you have set people in new york have concern over the country really concerned about north carolina. do you know that education is a problem in this entire country? so maybe they need to focus on what's going on in your state of new york, which by the way is where i grew up maybe they need to focus on what's going on in california where children are not getting the education that they need. maybe they needed to focus on what they're doing in michigan because right now in north carolina, i'm focused on helping the families of north carolina for their children to get quality education for them to be safe and for us to be sure that our money is going into the classroom rather than bureaucracies. that's what i've been focusing on. that's what i've been fighting for for the
5:54 am
last five years, going to the general assembly dealing with those issues. so that is why i'm running my and the sooner but you have set such hurtful things to it terms of the education to tell you about transgender. one is so done with the gotcha moment. >> this is not a gotcha. >> your own words, ma'am, this user, your own. that's not you. have education the former president are my words, because you tweeted, are those not your tweet? do you deny saying that you have an opportunity now i am. we deny saying that i am. are you denying that you said that in those tweets? i am telling you have use that. i'm going talk about the indoctrination of children by teachers i am telling you, have you talked about that? have you said that about student have you seen any of me going to the school board for the last five years because you will have my answer and so look, it is certainly very concerning for people who live here in north carolina. what she has said about education system, it's a
5:55 am
system which has about 1,000,000.5 students and a massive budget. and if she was to win this election, it would give her a platform from a place. >> the >> podium, a place to speak from more freely and more openly. and that is something that is certainly very concerning for people here. and of course, whatever from a policy, she would try and implement. and so it's a very consequential election and very concerning for the folks here in north carolina >> shimon >> thanks. for van they're great to see you. thank you so much. >> john wright >> wow, that was quite a conversation. this morning. new fbi data is showing violent crime in the united states, down 6% down 11% in cities with 1 million people or more, property crime is down 4%. >> cnn >> chief law enforcement intelligence analyst, john miller is here with us now. i just want to put these numbers in and of themselves in
5:56 am
perspective because they've been out there and i think they pass, people buy historically speaking, how much is crime dropping right now? >> so crime is dropping precipitously, but this is also in the context of in 2,020.20, 21. we had a perfect storm in this country we had defund the police, we had departments getting smaller. we had district attorneys changing policy. we had pandemic which shut down the courts and stop trials. so crime went up a lot. so are we down to pre-pandemic numbers in terms of crime? no, we're not, but we are headed back towards the normalization, which is a good thing. >> why is there a sense of why crime is dropping as much as it is >> so some of those things have been reversed. a number of the places that defunded the police found that they had to refund the police because of citizens concerns about crime. a number of places that changed the laws dramatically have gone to revisit those laws and adjusted them so you're seeing that, but
5:57 am
also they're very practical things. the courts are back in business trials are being held, but there are still challenges. there are still challenges but i want to try to figure out e is crime is moving down. yet americans concerns about crime are moving up like gallup has its 63% saying it's a big deal. he'll, which is the highest number ever. so why that disconnect. so >> that is really interesting, john, because even in the 990s, when crime was at an all time high, you had 24,000 murders you go up to the mid 2000s when crime is at all time lows and do surveys, there was a pew research survey, the gallup survey when crime is up, people say crime is up. and when crime is down, people still say crime is up because what they're seeing is not necessarily the violent crime, but take san francisco, los angeles, new york places where you have a severe homeless problem, mental health issues. they see the
5:58 am
chaos around them. and it makes them feel unsafe. and then there's us and social media, which is now with every cell phone recording everything live we're showing those crimes from security cameras, social media videos. so it creates this aura that it's always getting worse, right now. it's getting better right now. it is getting better tire cable that warrants are devoted to making it seem like crime is going up. look not saying it isn't a concern to people, but the data is showing that it is moving in the right direction. >> so we're having the largest decline in homicide, 13% down that we've probably that's what we're on track to have if it continues in this direction that we've seen in probably recorded history, but it still doesn't bring us back to where we were before. so much work left to be done. >> no question about that, john miller. thank you very much >> okay. >> so one thing taken very seriously, especially in baseball, is accusations of gambling and betting. now, los angeles dodgers superstar shohei ohtani is in a swirl in
5:59 am
the middle of a swirl of accute accusations related to his longtime interpreter and friend that interpreter has been fired and according to reports he's accused of stealing millions of dollars from ohtani using your taney's bank account to place bets with a bookie under federal investigation? cnn's andy scholes has much more on this. andy, what do you hear about this >> i mean, k is rather wild story. so shohei ohtani, spokesman originally told espn that ohtani sent money to cover the gambling debts of his longtime interpreter and friend y muizzu hora but then ohtani's lawyers on wednesday said ohtani was actually the victim of massive theft. now, this came to light because federal investigators are looking into an illegal california gambling operation. as first reported by the los angeles times. now according to espn, ohtani sit millions of dollars in wire transfers from his bank account to an alleged bookmaking operation and moos you horror originally told espn in an interview on tuesday that the transfers were to cover his

losses and he said, ohtani had quote, zero involvement in the bedding and none of the bets were on baseball. and msrp, harlow told espn he didn't know gambling was illegal in california and ohtani, he wasn't happy about his debts but decided to pay it get off for him. well, as espn was getting ready to publish their story on wednesday. ohtani's lawyers, they sent out this statement saying in the course of responding to recent media and queries, we discovered that shohei has been the victim of a massive theft and we are turning the matter over to the authorities. now wins on wednesday as well, ms o'hara also walked back much of what he had told espn saying ohtani had no knowledge of his gambling activities. debts are efforts to repay them a cnn is attempting to contact me, zahra. we've reached out to local authorities and age league baseball is refusing to comment at the moment, ms o'hara was in the dugout for wednesday is mlb season opener against the padres and soul. he was seen smiling and talking to ohtani. but ms o'hara, he was
