from the ukrainians? >> i mean, look there, the ukrainians are incredibly frustrated. they don't know what to make of the fact that very slim minority of one party in is hoing up the entire us foreign policy, which the vast majority of members of congress, and of course the allow for assistance to ukraine to the ukrainians are really frustrated and upset. having said that, i think we have tried to reassure them that speaker johnson it does intend to do something to help ukraine. and i think any of the options that he has put out recently alone frankly, tying it to lng facilities. i don't think the ukrainians differentiate and as far as those of us who understand what's at stake here, we just want the assistance to come through. you. i have an opinion piece and the hill hill.com running that says basically that ukraine is winning and if
6:01 am
we continue to provide assistance, this will, their victory will be assured faster with less loss of life if we don't provide the assistance, then the victory will eventually be in jeopardy. but there are a whole host of reasons why it looks like ukraine is winning. and so congress should do the right thing. >> interesting argument, et and farkas, thank you so much. i appreciate it. the next hour of new central starts right now we are, >> standing by for the markets to open future for donald trump's social media company or down this after he lost billion dollars on paper yesterday. how much more could he dropped today breaking news is real, says they unintentionally struck innocent people in a string right? the killed seven aid workers from world central kitchen. we're standing by for reaction from the organization. and then abortion on the ballot in one of the most important for his
6:02 am
swing states, a florida court opens the door to a ban on abortion after six weeks, but now voters will decide if it sticks and democrats see a huge opportunity i'm john berman with both kate bolduan, and sara sidner. this is cnn new center >> the donald trump is speaking out this morning. just spoke out for the first time about the new expanded gag order but he is now under posting on social media and railing against the judge in the hush money trial. he's about to face, but also notably not targeting the judge just daughter this time that notable because donald trump has targeted the judges daughter recently targeting her by name and several comments, even posting photos about her. the new gag order that came down late last night. now bans the
6:03 am
former president from talking about family members of prosecutors and the court staff, the judge saying that donald trump's words and rhetoric pose a very real threat, is suppose this morning does not cross that line. it will face another test of this john restraint later today, as he has back on the campaign trail, cnn's alayna treene is on the trail in michigan for us this morning. what are you hearing about this out is donald trump and dot the team around donald trump going to handle or face this new expanded gag order will look. >> i think they'll do exactly what they have done in the past with the gag orders, which is who will see donald trump continued to rail against it. we saw him rail against it it's morning attacking judge juan merchan as a corrupt new york judge. but as you noted, kate, he did not violate the expanded gag order that was placed on him yesterday, and i think that's how they're going to continue to move forward. they do not want to create more problems potential new finds, it's the same thing we saw
6:04 am
with his new york hush money case. or excuse me, the new york civil fraud trial when he was here and they're violated some of the gag order, then he did not going to want to do that this time, but of course, donald trump, as we have seen play out today, is very angry about this. but look, i also just wanted to give you a sense of what he's going to be doing in michigan and wisconsin today. i think it's very noteworthy because really we haven't seen much of donald trump since his soup for tuesday when he's only held two campaign events since then. so this is really hidden kicking off his general election campaign in earnest. today now what i have heard heard of from his team about what he's going to be talking about. he's really going to be focusing on themes that helped propel him to victory in these states in 2016. and that's immigration and crime. when i talked its campaign, they said they expect him to rail against spidered and border policies here in michigan. that headline for that event is what they call biden's blood or border bloodbath. and that's what they've been referring to it as, of course referencing the
6:05 am
very controversial show phrase he used weeks ago that received a lot of backlash from democrats and republicans alike when he referred to a potential bloodbath on the auto industry and the country if biden were to win, we're also told that donald trump has invited the family of ruby he garcia. she's someone who was recently killed here in michigan by an undocumented immigrant police, say that it was a domestic dispute, but we'll see if her family and she come today to this event. but look, i think overall, again, i really just want to point out that this is donald trump kicking off his campaign in earnest. these are two very critical battlegrounds, both for trump, but also for biden. and so that's why you're seeing this big push here today came >> yeah, it's great point and great to see you there. thank you so much. land sir. >> with me now, cnn legal analyst and former house judiciary special counsel in trump's first impeachment trial, nor mizan. thank you so much for being with you, with us can i ask you just first,
6:06 am
how unusual is it for a gag order to be expanded? like this >> it's not normal sarah but it's not unheard of. the life of american law it's flexibility. and when you have a defendant as donald trump is doing here engaging in a kind of conduct that has never been surpassed to my knowledge, in american history of attacking judges, attack king prosecutors threatening rhetoric. it led to january 6 one of his followers attack the fbi and cincinnati in 2022. you have to flex the law in order to prevent the chilling effect. think of the message it sends to everyone and anyone if donald trump can make these attacks, judge merge, sean did just that you're speaking to about the
6:07 am
witnesses, which is usually who are the most protected and of course, the jury trump's former tech, former press secretary, speaking of witnesses, who pics david, the former executive, the enquirer, who squashed the stories that were negative about donald trump, michael cohen, trump's former attorney, who who has turned on donald trump, the former play by boy model who also accused trump of having an extramarital affair. karen mcdougal, and of course, stormy daniels herself are all on the witness list. what does this list tell you? see kellyanne conway there as well? >> sarah when i was counsel for the first impeachment of the former president we investigated this identical set of facts including many of these witnesses. i took hello, picks deposition because the same as the judge put it, alleged interference with a an election gives rise to
6:08 am
impeachable offenses as well and i think that the prosecution, alvin bragg, has up case here. if they're calling whole picks, their calling these other witnesses. it's because they've meticulously put together a case that they're going to present to the jury of how donald trump allegedly, let's remember, he's innocent until proven guilty, but he allegedly kept vital information from voters in the 2016 election. that's the case of voter deception and allegiant election interference. it's a gateway drug dam doing the same thing, allegedly in 2020, that's why we're going to hear from o picks. and the others. they have critical information in the determination of da alvin bragg shows you how wide the case spreads out. lastly, you had pointed out that we really shouldn't ignore the context around this gag order. what do you mean by that? >> well president trump are
6:09 am
former chief executive, is using the bully pulpit that comes with being a former president to put people in grave danger. quite apart from his attacks on the judges daughter, which are totally uncalled for and which are not protected by the first amendment in recent days alone, we saw him attack judges and prosecutors in his easter message he put up a heinous image, sara, of the current president of the united states bound and gagged in the back of a pickup truck obvious gesture to the kidnapping of the current president we've never seen anyone behave like this >> who's a >> former president, who's a criminal defendant, and that must go into the calculus as well. thank goodness. the judge put in this gag order yeah. >> there's also the calculus of >> hearing from january >> 6. offenders who went into court and said that they were
6:10 am
influenced by donald trump's words all very interesting the context of all of this norm eisen, thank you so much. appreciate you for coming on >> coming. up for us shares of trump media taking a beating on walls through the former president, losing 1 billion on paper yesterday. that is something to watch the markets are about to open. after years of becoming much more republican president biden's campaign now says florida is winnable for them this new found confidence comes from and why abortion rights are at the center of that and the breaking news this morning is really prime minister benjamin netanyahu just responded for the first time. after the idf strike that. killed seven world central kitchen aid workers. and what he is really military's top general is now set if you work in spaceflight, this is the worst >> possible thing that could ever happen.

6:16 am
florida, even at that state has gone republican in the past few cycles, and they believe that big reason why is the issue of reproductive rights the florida state supreme court's move forward with allowing a constitutional amendment relating to abortion to appear on florida ballots in november. biden campaign manager julie chavez rodriguez. so that that would be a mobilizing and galvanizing force for voters heading into the election, the biden campaign has long argued that reproductive rights across the country can really help push voters to the polls, especially women, moderate, and independent voters. that is something that the biden campaign is also leaning into today in a new television ad, they're releasing across battleground states and the state of florida. this new ad features president biden speaking direct-to-camera about needing to protect a woman's right to choose and trying to portray former president donald trump as a direct threat to reproductive rights. take a listen
6:17 am
>> it's running to pass a national ban. >> woman's right to choose. >> i'm running hey crow, way. the law of the land again women have a federal guaranteed to the right to choose. donald trump doesn't trust women. >> i do. >> i'm joe biden and i approve this message >> now, the biden campaign believes that ballot measures in florida, nevada, and arizona could help mobilize their coalition to the ballots come november, but the biden campaign is also so running up against the reality of the political electorate in the state of florida, we have seen in the past to campaigns, former president donald trump really improve his standing among voters. there beat hillary clinton by about 112,000 votes and more than doubles that margin when he competed against biden in the state back in 2020. but one area that the biden campaign is also saying they believe works in their favor is in the attempts to court those former nikki haley supporters. there
6:18 am
were about 155,000 people who voted for haley in the republican primary. marion florida, the biden campaign has been making direct overtures to her supporters, rolling out a new digital ad over the weekend. and i'm told even reaching out to the people who funded her campaign and those high-dollar donors as well. so these are all elements. the biden campaign believes could work in their favor with reproductive rights. and the debate around it really been one of the top issues they believe will work for them arlette saenz. thank you so much, john. >> right with this now, political commentators, democratic strategist, maria cardona and republican strategist david urban maria, when abortion has been on the ballot since the supreme court overturned roe versus wade, how advantageous has it been to democrats? >> it's been really advantageous. john, as you know, in the run-up to 2022 everyone was predicting a massive red tsunami and it didn't happen. and one of the major reasons that didn't happen was because reproductive
6:19 am
rights were on the ballot the supreme court had just overturned roe v wade. and this is an interesting point, john, the issue of repro rights is very rarely adequately and accurately measured in polls. it's an underlying issue. a lot of people kind of put it aside. they said women, we're going to get over it. the supreme court ford turned it in the summer. they were gonna get over it by the midterm elections in 2022 will now guess what? we're not over it, and we're not going to be over it until the government stays out of a decision that should be in our hands with our families with our doctors and with our faith. and until republicans understand that and stop talking about how any kind of ban this is going to be a electorial kryptonite for them. and it's going to be something that's going to give huge openings for democrats. we saw it in ohio. we saw it in kansas we flipped a central florida seat that had been republican. we flipped a jacksonville
6:20 am
mayoral seat that had been republican in florida as well. this is a huge opening for democrats and we're going to take it >> david urban, are man in florida at least part of the year? what do you see there? how much? >> i'm here? i'm here right now, john, how much? how am i can see the sun shining on your forehead? how much should republicans sphere this in the state? >> now, let's john, so i think it started out with i wish daniel dale, we're here to fact check that joe biden commercial because donald trump is not calling for national ban. have anything he's pretty easy, pretty moderate on the issue. kinda in the 15, 16 week that the middle ground position he staked out so like just correct the record on that for joe biden. secondly, i do think listen, i'm maria is correct and that it has been a winning issue for democrats in election after election, i think it is, it is an issue they're going to run on. they're gonna run on abortion in january 6. republicans are going to run on immigration crime and biden's age i think the tiebreaker here
6:21 am
is going to be the economy. what's going to happen is the economy going to stay where it is now? are people going to feel like they can't afford their car payments, food and listen, i've welcome democrats coming to the state of florida and spending money, spending their valuable resources here and trying to flip the state. i think it's a fool's errand. florida is never going to vote for joe biden, the presidential election, the more money they spent here in florida, the less money they're going to spend in pennsylvania, michigan, wisconsin. so bring your trucks full of money down here. come on, maria, welcome to florida i want to shift gears if i can right now because erin burnett did i think one of the most revealing interviews that we have seen today with robert >> kennedy jr. we talked for quite a long time on quite a number of issues and i think you ended up with a real sense of where he is where he's positioning himself in this race, particularly vis-a-vis the two other candidates listened to what he said. he raised a lot eyebrows when he was asked to the bigger threat
6:22 am
to democracy is among the other two candidates watch the greatest threat democracy is not somebody who questions election returns, but a president united states will use the power of his office to force a social media companies, facebook, instagram, twitter, don't open a portal and give access portal to the fbi, does it? a cia did the irs. the size at the nih to censor his political critics >> daniel did do a fact check on that last part, which i recommend everyone go check out, but maria just the idea that he is saying that that president biden is a bigger threat to democracy then donald trump he, even though he referenced right there the january 6 insurrection >> yeah, john, i think that was just a huge disservice to his own campaign and frankly, his credibility if he has any left i think it underscored the lunacy of his campaign, the
6:23 am
conspiracy theory basis of his campaign. and frankly, the fact that he's in this to help donald trump win because that argument is exactly a extremist maga, argument and make no mistake. one of the biggest contributor rfk junior super pac, is one of the biggest contributors to donald trump's super pac. so let's make sure that everybody understands that a vote for rfk junior is a vote for donald trump. and what he represents is conspiracy theories and the fact that he said that he believes joe biden is a bigger threat to microsoft than donald trump says at all. that's beyond the pale joe biden was not the candidate who inspired an insurrection and pushed his supporters to go and attack the capital, where many people died, including law enforcement officers. he is not someone who still denies the election of 2020. he is not someone who that he wants to be a dictator on day one. and so i think rfk junior is defining
6:24 am
himself, but democrats are going to do a big job of defining him as well as a maga extremist david just hang on one second here. i just want to play another little bit of sound from robert kennedy. and i think it will tee up where you want to weigh in here because again, he makes clear on who he might be more critical of listen >> i think there's a revolution happening in our country and it's the same kind of thing that happened when my father was running and 19 the polarization, the division americans is the most toxic. it's been since the american civil war that, is there's a whole group of people in this country, the american middle-class, 57% of americans who camp with their hands on had thousand dollars. if there's an emergency in their family it's all those people, if the engine light comes on in their cards, the apocalypse, or they're going to lose their, lose their job they're feeling forgotten, i, the democratic party that last part right there, david, again, it gives you a sense of what robert
6:25 am
kennedy, or does it, i should ask, is really positioning himself up against hey, listen, i think that i watched the interview, the entire interview, john, i was on aaron show last night right after >> robert robert kennedy jr. there and i had the occasion to spend a brief brief amount of time with him. he's incredibly charismatic guy and does does really well in retail but i will say he, he is a threat to joe biden more so than donald trump, although he sounds like a trump populous, they're poll after poll, you see that he does eat away at some, some trump voters, but he eats more from the biden base and that's quite frankly why they're terrified if he's on the ticket. katy bar the door. it's gonna be a completely different race. now the question is that the operative part of that sentence is if he's on the ticket. right. so we've got to see if he could get ballot access and lots of these states, not just the handful of these in now if it gets on, let's say the libertarian ticket, he's on every state that america, if
6:26 am
he's manages to get on and file and get on ballot after ballot, after ballot and swing states and other states. >> it's >> going to be a game changer. and i think that democrats are right to be spending all this money. they're doing right now i tried to keep them off the ballot because they don't want to give people that choice to vote for him over joe biden because they will vote for rfk junior over the biden harris administration. david urban, i should've noted you were the highlight of >> the robert kennedy interview last night, and erin burnett outfront, a great to see you this morning. i see an issue central maria cardona, you're always the highlight. thank you both for thanks. >> thanks, john >> shares of trump media tanked after major losses were posted by the social media company. what analysts are saying about the true value of truth social right now, and the breaking news this morning, israel takes responsibility for the strike that killed seven aid workers with world central kitchen in gaza. and these really militaries, top general says now he will personally review the findings of how this tragic strike happened

6:32 am
more like a dip than >> a die, but anything can happen with this stock. it is subject to wild moos. don't blink because you can miss a 10% move in either direction yesterday, as you mentioned, this stock lost almost a quarter of its value in one day. that means donald trump's net worth worth went down by about $1 billion because he is the dominant shareholder in trump media, the owner of truth social. you can see it just went flat on that. >> yeah. >> the reason why it fell so sharply yesterday though, they posted 2023 results, they were not pretty the company lost 58 million last year on very little revenue, 4.1 million dollars in revenue. that is so tiny because this is a company that started the week valued at $11 >> the results >> were actually very much in line with another digital media company that flamed out earlier this year, the messenger, i'm not saying that truth social is gonna go the way of the messenger, but it does show why some experts are warning this is a meme stock and it's ridiculously over, over we're value and quickly you were explaining to me so i can
6:33 am
understand it if i can understand it, anyone can there was an accounting warning having to do with true social, >> there was so in the sec filings yesterday, there was a warning from accountants that i do think spooked some investors, fueled some of the losses. the accountant said that the losses for trump media, we're so severe that they quote, rate he's substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern. let me translate that. is wall street speak four, we may go out of business, but john, there's an asterix there, as you see, just turn slightly positive. the asterisk is that warning likely predated the merger and the merger didn't just bring truth public. it also led to a cat ash infusion of $300 and that should be enough to let this company to buy some time. but in the meantime, john, listen, there's gonna be wild swings up and down, fasten your seat belts but then one of the most shorted stocks i understand on wall street right now, matt egan, great to see. thanks, john. that are someone who we never short >> never, ever new developments this morning, israeli prime
6:34 am
minister benjamin netanyahu says, israeli forces quote, unintentionally struck innocent people in the gaza strip. it comes after the humanitarian aid organization world central kitchen says seven of its workers were killed in gaza right after they had delivered food to a warehouse. they say in his air, rayleigh airstrike even though they're convoy was clearly marked with the groups logos and they had coordinated their movements with the idf in his statement this morning, netanyahu did not specifically mentioned the world central kitchen staffers had been killed cnn's melissa bell is in jerusalem for us with this story. a harrowing story we've already heard from andre, jose andres, who founded this organization. he couldn't more upset what what do you know if they're from jerusalem? >> that's right, sir. there's been outraged, but also great sadness expressed about the deaths of these aid workers coming from a wide variety of backgrounds is they did well,
6:35 am
we understand now, sir, is that the idf is going to be conducting high level investigation to this. in fact, we're hearing that it is the idf's top general who is personally going to be reviewing the information as it comes in. i think that's an indication of how seriously israeli authorities are taking this tragedy. this is what benjamin netanyahu had to say about it a short while ago >> let's >> have no >> unfortunately, in the last day, there was a tragic incident where our forces unintentionally struck innocent people in the gaza strip it happens in war, and we are thoroughly investigating amazon. we are in contact with the governments and will do everything to prevent such occurrences in the future >> motion issue it is going to be, of course, sarah, all the more important that israeli authorities bring urgent answers to this >> quickly because of their claim over the course of the last few weeks and months that they are working closely with aid organizations to try and alleviate the suffering of the 2.2 million gazans who are
6:36 am
currently in need. the food. >> and remember what the un says is that half the population is actually now facing famine. sir. molest, these pictures are start seeing the vehicle that they were in than the condition of it after the strike. thank you so much for your reporting there and joining us now is the top democrat on the house armed services committee congressman adam smith from washington congressman, thank you for coming in. you heard there netanyahu said his response to that tragic strike with his moos and decision's already under such scrutiny, meaning netanyahu, what's your reaction to this >> what two big things. one, it really underscores how important it is to get a ceasefire at this point. and the conflict, something that the biden administration has been negotiated, trying to negotiate for several months now and in the lab i don't know, three, four weeks, there has been a clear offer on the table to exchange palestinian prisoners for the israeli hostages and get an extended
6:37 am
ceasefire lasting over a month, that hamas has rejected and it's really, it's hard for israel who agree to a ceasefire without the release of the hostages. so we need to get that agreement and hamas needs to agree to what was put on the table. and then the second point is the need to increase humanitarian assistance in gaza i was there just a couple of weeks ago at the rafah crossing and mit met with israeli leadership, including the prime minister and the lack of humanitarian assistance getting into gaza is a major problem and something that israel needs to step up and increase without question. but this incident, this tragic, terrible incident, illustrates how hard that is to do while the fighting is going on. now, even if the fighting continues, humanitarian assistance needs to increase. but we need to get a ceasefire to make sure that they monetary an assistance can get in without these types of tragedies happen do you think that this tragedy, this tragedy

specifically do you think this shakes the goodwill >> of the biden administration in their continued support of netanyahu. i mean, we know publicly and privately, there have been tough conversations to be had but they're really this world central kitchen is resonates so much with people around the united states and around the world. we see world central kitchen and jose andres said, every natural disaster there first to help. they can't do more. they do such good things and they were there trying to get the humanitarian assistance two people. does this shake that goodwill >> well, i think look, the humanitarian crisis that existed in gaza exists in gaza right now is what the biden administration is really concerned about and has been pushing. i think certainly this amplifies that problem but it's a horrific situation all the way around that the biden administration is trying to
6:39 am
find a way de israel and hamas to get to a ceasefire. now i do think part of the problem here is hamas has been unaccountable and all of this they have no incentive at this point. well, they have a clearance and even that is the protection of the palestinian people that does not seem to be a priority. but they seem to think that their winning the pr campaign i mean, the un refuses to even condemn hamas while calling for a ceasefire so what's going to force hamas to accept that ceasefire at this point? yes, it continues to push the biden administration to find some solution to this but it takes both israel and hamas to agree to that ceasefire, right now. and i hope some pressure will be exerted on hamas to accept what has been on the table for weeks now what also ask you about? ron says that israel took out seven of its officers, including a senior commanders of the irgc and strikes and syria hitting an iranian embassy complex and damascus the white house says that the
6:40 am
united states conveyed to iran that the us was not involved in, didn't know about it ahead of time, yet, iran has come out saying that the us, they hold the united states responsible for the attack, saying the united states should be answerable is how they put it how concerned, how serious was this strike? how concerned are you about it? and retaliation will appear a very concerned about it, but the iranian claim is ridiculous they want to blame america for absolutely everything they'd been in a conflict with israel. they've been funding hezbollah, they've been found funding hamas. they've been funding a variety of different threats and attacks on israel for quite some time now they know they're in that conflict is not driven by the united states, it's driven by the fact that iran has made it very clear that they want to wipe israel off off the map. and israel is defending itself against that attack now, the specific strike, i don't know the ins and outs of why israel felt like this was an appropriate strike to take in that conflict. but if iran wants to
6:41 am
stop this sort of thing, they, they need to stop advocating for the elimination of israel. but the us has no responsibility for this. this is israel and iran in a conflict that i think we're all very painfully aware of. but the big concern here is the spread of the conflict in something we've been trying to contain since october 7 with the rockets and the weapons that hezbollah has just up to the north and lebanon and iran has been shipping across syria for some time is a real risk of this spreading into a larger conflict that engulfs the entire middle east so we have to keep working to try and contain that in any way we can >> congressmen, it's always great to have you on. thank you so much for coming in thanks for the chance kid. john. >> all right. today, the last two survivors of the tulsa race massacre will fight for justice in court at 109 years old. well, they see the reparations they are hoping for? and we are standing by to see if donald trump will break his new gag

6:47 am
decided to hear there, please. cnn's omar jimenez is joining me now. you had a conversation with the survivors. tell me about this legal battle yes >> look, as you mentioned, these are the final survivors of the 1921 tulsa race masker. they've been locked in this year's long court battle at this point, lower court is a court battle essentially for reparations. lower court dismissed the case. state high, the state supreme court agreed to hear this case and now today they have a chance to actually make their case, which of course is a huge step. and if you haven't been doing the math, these survivors are all 109 years old, so time of course, is of the essence here, essentially what they argue is that what happened over 100 years ago, still having ripple effects on their lives and had ripple effects on their lives over the course of it. and that the city of tulsa, among others were complicit in those ripple effects. and as you mentioned, i spoke with one of those survivors, 109 year-old viola ford fletcher, and she told me that what happened in 1921 isn't ancient history to her.

honor them while they are still with us. i also want to note there was a third survivor who in the midst of this court battle hughes van ellis, he died in october 2023, waiting for this opportunity. and i just want to put everything in perspective here. just for how long this process could actually be let's just say the state supreme court agrees with them and allows their case to proceed. this is just for the chance to go to trial because then it's referred back down to the lower court. then you actually begin the process for trial, which could also take a number of years. one of course time is of the essence, 109 incredible how lucid and great of a speaker. she is staff. >> thank you so much, omar. appreciate a cake for six days from the we're sick days from the rare solar eclipse and y state's best positioned along its path are already getting so excited, we'll be back >> we all need fiber for our digestive health, but less than

million, he'd go back seven years ago. it was just 12 million less than or equal to 3 million back in 79, less than or equal to 4 million back in 1970. if you add all these last three eclipses up the number of people in the path of totality is less than the 31 million this time around. so the fact that this is a special eclipse because they're gonna be so many people in that past. >> i'm old enough to remember 2017 and i have 2017 and i have to say like the hype for this one is more than three times greater than 27 17. talk to me about how you're seeing that. yeah. >> you know, if you were to look at google searches, right? remember beyond say came out with her album last week. this is regular relative google searches, cinch fraught friday, searches for the solar eclipse, or the highest on record beyond to it came out with that new album last week behind solar eclipse and behind hi, i'm taylor swift. so the stars of our actual planet do not make meet the star of our entire universe, which of course is the sun. and we also set in
