it's incentivized to goh in, give those sorts of quotes because he knows he'll get coverage. i mean, i guess he's kinda living it right lab. we've talked a lot about this, right? the idea that politicians will go to someone else's criminal trial and associate themselves with that when they, you know, they don't have to, they could say that they were busy doing other things and he missed the layout here? no, the pope can't draw those kinds of crowds but bianna, say, and taylor swift can we saw this summer the arrows tore through a far bigger crowd. i thank are far bigger crowds nationwide than any trump rally might have. i mean, come on, it's the beatles that they were more popular than jesus christ. and i think that didn't go over that. well either slightly more, slightly more conservative time. but number one, their hair was like a wild is the hell was going on in our culture okay, that's where we are thanks. >> to all of you for joining us this morning and thanks to our panel for being here. i'm kasie hunt. don't go anywhere. cnn news central starts right now
4:01 am
breaking overnight a string of deadly tornadoes, ripping across the midwest and now storms are threatening cities from texas to vermont a federal the judge found strong evidence of crimes before donald trump was charged in the classified documents case. in today, we're seeing new images of a trump aide moving boxes around mar-a-lago and all hell broke loose. passengers described the moments of fatal turbulence on a flight that left one person dead and more than 100 injured were getting new details. the small morning i'm john berman with kate bolduan. sara is out crushing it this morning. this is cnn news central we, need to begin this morning in iowa,
4:02 am
where people are waking up to utter devastation and what was just yesterday, their homes or neighborhoods or towns, the whole state string of deadly tornadoes tore through the midwest. >> last night, western iowa bore the brunt of it, was crazy winds and reports of 17 tornadoes touching down across the state. one city reported wind gusts of 100 miles an hour governor kim reynolds, she is true disaster emergencies. four, 15 of iowa's 19 counties and officials say there are multiple fatalities from these storms, but at this point, they're not giving a more specific death toll. many injuries were also reported in greenfield after a tornado tore through that small city. one person from a neighboring town, describe the destruction and in greenfield saying there is basically nothing left there are waking up to a very tough reality there today in the thread is not over more than 75 million people, as i mentioned earlier, from texas to vermont are facing the risk of severe storms today, seen as whitney wild is in greenfield, iowa. she's joining us. i wouldn't what are you seeing?
4:03 am
>> okay. >> we are about a mile from where that destruction hit in greenfield is a curfew now, so that police and first responders can do everything they can because this isn't always search and rescue mission. >> so i'll just give you a quick look. again, we're about a mile from where that destruction happened. and kate, as you mentioned, western iowa, is where the brunt of this storm hit towns like greenfield. most effected and to give you a context of what a tornado of this magnitude means for our grout, a town like greenfield. this town is small. there's only about 2000 people who live here according to a recent census. the square mileage here as less than two square miles. this is a tiny town in a mac acid storm, just ripped through it. as you mentioned, there were 17 reports of tornadoes in iowa alone, as we know, the storm system was massive, it impacted midwestern states, illinois, wisconsin, iowa, included in that. here, again an iowa the impact was huge in montgomery county. that's a neighboring county to where we are are 28
4:04 am
homes were impacted in carbon, iowa, a storm team was there right after a tornado hit, they ran right up to a home that was directly impacted here is that moment paid? >> down here hundreds of thousands of people lost power throughout the storm system, which can't die. >> we said iowa late afternoon ripping through those midwestern states, again, hundreds of thousands of people losing power in states like illinois, iowa, and wisconsin. the damage here will be assessed by governor kathy reynolds, kate, she's expected to come to grow until today back to you, chase and what they're going to cease from
4:05 am
that aerial videos, you can see the literal path that it took and just cut through those tornadoes. whitney, thank you so much, john are we have new images this morning for the first time we're seeing footage of trump aid in co-defendant walt nauta moving boxes around mar-a-lago. the photos are dated june 1, 2022. prosecutors say that not a move. these boxes shortly before a trump attorney was going to look through them after getting a subpoena to turn over classified materials. today, the judge in the case, aileen cannon, will hear motions to dismiss charges against nauta and other co-defendants. cnn's katelyn polantz is with us now all of a sudden, a lot of new information here, caitlyn yeah, john, that's because there's a backlog in this case of the judge handling all of these requests from donald trump and his co-defendants carlos de oliveira and walt nauta to dismiss the case, to challenge the case, to get more information in the case before the trial, we're seeing these new images of walt nauta now
4:06 am
because there were documents, motions filed months ago back in february that are just now becoming public because the judge says it's time to make them public. >> we're going to start having arguments on them, but it's just a sliver of the things that judge aileen cannon has to work through before we even get close to a trial here in the this is classified documents case in florida, john, the thing that is happening today in court, it has a little bit to do with those pictures, but it's not actually about everything that we're getting in the court record over the past couple of days. it's something that was filed way back in february by walt nauta. he argued that he was being retaliated against by the justice department because he spoke to them several times. they say he gave them false information in those interviews, and then he stopped cooperating. he says he shouldn't have been charged at that time. that's what judge aileen cannon is going to be hearing legal arguments over today. but remember, even though walt nauta is saying that he it was retaliated
4:07 am
against, he was selectively and vindictively prosecuted when he said he didn't know much about the movement of boxes. there are those images of him moving them around mar-a-lago resort back in 2020 to john, looking at the pictures right now. >> all right. >> an interesting day ahead. katelyn polantz, keep us posted. appreciate it all hell broke loose. >> that is how passengers are describing what happened in the moments when they're playing hit severe turbulence, turbulence that left one person dead. for the passengers and the airline are saying now today, if virginia man pleads guilty for having ammunition in his backpack while on vacation in turks and caicos. what that guilty plea now? not only him, but the four other americans facing similar charges and person caicos, right now. and an investigation has been launched into the death of friends star matthew perry

4:13 am
watson is this morning, i believe i've an outside the hospital where some of these now more than 100 people who were injured are being treated let's write a number of hospitals where passengers and crew members were transported to after the singapore airlines flight had to make this emergency landing here in bank coke, cutting short, it's trip to singapore because of this sudden and violent turbulence that hit the numbers of injured people are kind of staggering if do you think about it according to the hospital authorities here, there were a total of 85 people hospitalized in the aftermath of this. >> and if you consider that there were 211 paths passengers on board and then some 18 crew. i mean, that's a third perhaps of all the people who were on board this flight, let's take a listen to one of the passengers who spoke earlier to our own erin burnett at describing what it was like and how sudden this all was the plane just felt
4:14 am
like clocks it probably only lasted a few seconds, but i remember vividly seeing shoes and ipads, an iphones and cushions and blankets and cochlea and plates and cups. >> flying through the air, crushing to the ceiling the gentleman next to me had a cup of coffee which went straight all over me and an up to the ceiling john, this gentleman, he said he had seen the seat belt warning come on and had actually put his seat belt on, which probably protected him if you want evidence of how sudden it was he and other passengers have described almost all of the airline crew being injured, which suggests that he didn't get time to buckle up and to brace themselves for this against sudden and violent turbulence. >> the ceo of singapore airlines, which i might add it has a stellar safety record. he
4:15 am
has publicly apologize for what happened and expressed his condolences for the one passenger who died on board the flight. it's 73 year-old british man named jeffrey kitchen, but still the investigation will have to reveal how this could have happened. so suddenly and calm but crew members and passengers off guard and hurt. so many people and just a final note, there are still 20 people from the plane that are intensive care right now. i just highlighting again how violent and sudden this turbulence really was, john. >> yeah, the footage that we're seeing now, i've and just pick paints a picture of hearer. may him all right. >> ivan watson in bangkok. this warning, ivan, thank you very much for that new warnings from president biden this morning that donald trump is sounding a bit too much like hitler in this morning, israel threatening serious consequences to countries who decide to formally recognize a palestinian state assignments

4:21 am
there. is that trump's posting is the language of hitler, germany, of hitler's germany. listen what's next for america just sound is official account wow, a unified reich that schindler's language, that's not america's. >> he cares about holding on to power i care about you daniel strauss is tracking all of this for us. daniel, where does this go from here i mean, that's a good question, but this is the latest example in a long list of statements that do allude to nazi germany from trump in trump's orbit. >> and it's pretty clear that the biden campaign has been eager to jump on this even in the few hours after this truth social post came up, the biden campaign, the vice president, biden's aides, all released
4:22 am
statements and pointed both to this particular truths social posts, and passed one such as trump's saying that there were very fine people on both sides referring to the march in charlottesville, a years ago and so this is the biden campaign sees this as an example to really go on offense here sure does. >> and what about contraception? what's this back-and-forth right? >> so this, this here, this is basically that trump in a local radio interview recently said that he would look very closely on some kind of restrictions on abortion and contraception. and that he would have a new plan that americans would find very interesting in the coming week or days or so. and this comes after the former president himself has said that he wants to leave restrictions on abortion up to states again, this is a point of tension
4:23 am
within the republican party. there are elements in the gop that want to move further in response to the dobbs ruling on contraception restrictions, trump himself has tried to veer away from that because he's worried that that would alienate swing voters in general election voters that he means to win this election de a strauss, thank you so much. >> john so after being told my doctors he might never walk again after jeremy renner is doing more than that, he is running the 53 year-old was it's involved in a near fatal snow plow accident two years ago and has titanium rods and screws in his legs. >> renner said brooke's running shoes had been a big part of his recovery ray. so the company caught when did this and the result, as you might imagine, a new ad campaign i'm still worried about the bolts and screws coming out because i learned that they can come in done. right. >> terrifying. >> but i don't care anymore.

aqua santa.com mr. adrenaline just like the standard way every turn. >> he came play shot of adrenaline right to the heart new this. morning cnn has new reporting about detailing how house the top democrat in the house, house minority leader hakeem jeffries is seizing on the fractured and slim republican majority cnn's lauren fox is joining us right now. she's got this great reporting. lauren tickets inside. how is jeffries making his mark with us? >> yeah. this is new reporting from me and our colleague meloni's and nonna. and really what we learned about the minority leader in interviews with nearly two dozen people is that this is someone who operates behind the scenes. oftentimes, not wanting to take credit in the moment. someone who also well, it has earned the trust of different parts of
4:30 am
his party by listening, by taking in feedback, many members that we talked to said this is someone who has navigated tensions within the caucus when it comes to the israel-hamas war, something that democrats have dealt with for years now as an issue, but something that obviously leslie has come to the forefront within their parties since october 7 and specifically and unique anecdote that i heard in the process of reporting out the story was the fact that jeffrey is quietly secured additional money for democratic earmarks in the last spending bill, this was something that democrats had been fighting named for, for more than a year, according to the top democrat on the appropriations committee, rosa loro. but at the end of the de and the closing days of those negotiations, jeffrey sent a clear message to johnson, according to sources saying that this was a top priority, and because democrats were providing such a large number for votes to get the spending bills across the finish line
4:31 am
will ultimately what you saw is almost every single democrat get precisely $616,279 for at least one of their projects in the transportation, housing, and urban development spending bill. and this it's an important thing for democrats because this is something that they can go back home and tout. and while this was not the full amount of money that democrats had wanted, this detail really does give a clear picture of how we operate. it's i asked for as a dolor. why didn't you guys put out a press release at the time? it took months for me to find this and her argument was we did what we needed to do. he negotiated what needed to be negotiated. not everything has to be a press conference great reporting is always real quick. >> is there something behind the just the 600 $616,279 that they all got? i haven't figured that out. >> yeah. i mean, i think it was clearly some way that they just divided up this among democrats. there were, there
4:32 am
were a handful of members who got a little bit more kate, but this was largely the trend that i found over and over and over. >> i was looking for symbolism and i clearly, it was just digging into a whole, it's great to see you are in gray reporting is always john. >> all right. knew this morning and american tourists pleaded guilty to bringing ammunition into the turks and caicos and is now facing a possible 12 year prison sentence as a result, hizon, five americans held there now all on similar charges a bipartisan team of lawmakers just got back from a trip there to plead for their release. one of them joins us now, representative bob good, a republican from virginia congressman. thanks so much for being with us. what were you told when you went to turks and caicos and pleaded for the release? >> well, we went there to meet with our constituents before detainees were still being held. some of them as long as 90 days, some are short as just a couple of weeks. but there being faced with a 12-year mandatory sentence for accidentally having a stray bullet or two in their luggage
4:33 am
as they were leaving the island of turks and caicos something that they didn't intentionally bringing the country that wasn't found when they were leaving ts through tsa in our own country. there was no criminal intent, no harm. turks and caicos put in place about a year ago, a new law, or a few months ago that carries a mandatory 12 month a 12-year sentence. it's rather if you have possession of a firearm or any kind of ammunition but these individuals, the mo was in the same of a piece of luggage or down into the line? my name, something they would have never have found if it wasn't picked up by the scanners with the head of search, the bags multiple times. so we wanted to hear the stories directly from our constituents. i've spoken with them on the phone, but one speak with them directly. and then to plead with the government officials there and turks and caicos to consider the unintended consequence for tourists, are there law especially americans who provide about half of the gross domestic product gdp through our tourist dollars visit to their country, about 1 million americans a year. >> do you feel like you made any progress? do you have any reason for optimism after this trip?
4:34 am
>> well, i think we had a good and healthy conversation with the governor, vice governor premiere, vice premier, along with the leaders of the business and tourists community. and with our own state it department officials. and again, our plea was that discretion would be utilized, that there'll be some discernment for the unintended consequences where are individuals who are being held? it should be released with time served. they spent anywhere from two weeks or a few weeks in jail or in prison. they've had to pay tens of thousands of dollars for bail money and to stay there on the island these are middle-income americans who were there to celebrate a wedding or, to celebrate anniversary or something to that effect. and they've been held again for weeks on end and money in some cases. so hopefully, i will find out next week with my constituent, tyler wenrich. that's when he's supposed to be sentence. i should say. and hopefully he'll get tired i'm served maybe a fine and a promise not to return or a public apology something something reasonable and allow them to come back to american to his one year-old son and his new bride senator markwayne mullin, who was on
4:35 am
this trip also said, if there are prison sentences, he said, we'll have to consider action to safeguard american citizens. what action? >> well, we want to tell the stories of our constituents. some have been really suffered on, some really agree jus, consequence for their time there and how they've been treated but we're appealing to the good nature of the turks and caicos officials, that, hey, this is the unintended consequence. but if they, if they were to continue to allow americans to suffer as if they had criminal attend to be treated like they were bringing multiple machine guns and full magazines and things like that. they're going to treat them that way. then we would have to advise an ask our own state department to issue a travel advisory about going to turks and caicos, which would have a tremendous negative him impact on their tourism dollars. >> of course, i do want to ask you, you travel up here to new york city to attend donald trump's criminal trial. here you are in the courtroom with other members of congress but the man who was running against you in a republican primary in virginia kenya he got to ride in the motorcade down what trump from trump tower to the
4:36 am
courthouse. >> did he get outflank? that's more fake. that's more fake news from cnn. i was in the motorcade and that my opponent who lives about everything, lied about that as well. he knows that i was in the motorcade because he saw me in the motorcade, but he's got entities like you reporting that four and that's a campaign thank talking points, dishonest motorcade. but the most important thing is good. it was about president trump is about supporting president trump. he's got a frankly an unconstitutional gag order on him. trying to prevent it from having a fair trial from nail to make a defense to the american people. so we were happy to go there and support him and be his voice and say the things that he's not allowed to say by this crooked corrupt judge. >> got it. and just to be clear, donald trump has not endorsed in your primary race. and the thinking is, it's because you backed ron desantis in the republican primary, correct? >> well, i'm happy to support president trump is greatest president my lifetime, he's gonna win. that's what this trial is about. by the way, the democrats know they can't beat them at the ballot box. they know that all eriksson's we're better off when president trump was in office. they're
4:37 am
suffering under joe biden so they're trying to the first tried to prevent it from being on the ballot. now they're trying to weigh him down with the legal costs, keep them off the campaign trail, but he's still searching in the polls. the american people know what this is. i know it's a witch hunt. they know this is legal persecution and we were glad to support them and have his back calls him, bob. good. thanks for coming to this morning. i appreciate it. >> great to be with you. thank you so and historic move this morning, ireland, spain, and norway, all announcing plans to formally recognize a palestinian state. >> leaders of the country's say this was a coordinated effort and intended to try to help move these israeli palestinian conflict toward a two-state solution. for the landmark announcement by three nations were receipt received swift condemnation, condemnation from israel. there's really foreign minister recalling these really ambassadors from all three countries, saying their moves, send the message to the world that terrorism pays seen as robertson is in london, nick, can you put this into the broader context? what does this mean i think this speaks to what the irish prime minister
4:38 am
said that he wanted to do, which was send a powerful political and symbolic message as a recognition that it's symbolic, but there's a recognition that may have political impacts as well. >> that other countries as the palestinians are asking for other countries to consider the same move this is a new irish prime minister who's just in his job. the last one, leo varadkar, was at the white house for some patrick's. they recently and i think through the irish media, you could sense this tension that from an irish perspective, they felt that the united states wasn't doing enough to put pressure on israel. and this is norway, ireland, and spain, a collectively saying the same thing to other europe, fellow european countries and north american countries. the united states in particular. and saying more, more could be done with like two move the dial here, norway's prime minister said, look to have peace in the middle east, and this is something that the united states has is saying as well to have peace in the middle east, you need a two-state solution and to have a two-state solution, you need a

palestinian state and an israeli state. so he said without it, without a palestinian state, you can't have peace the united states would say, okay let's do this when when we've got a when we got a ceasefire in gaza, when the hostages aback, there's a time and a place for this to happen and it should happen. and that's sort of the view of the european union. and as well they say, well, it's a vision we should get to that point of a palestinian state but this absolutely represents frustration on the parts of those countries. and the belief that they can shift the dialogue a little nic robertson, it's great to see you. thank you so much, nick so this morning, a bunch of lawyers are writing speeches, closing arguments in new york criminal case against donald trump. >> they happen next tuesday. he is charged with falsifying documents to cover up hush money payments to adult film mac salt inflows the 2016 election the jury has six days off now or somehow they're going to have to avoid talking about the case going on the

internet or even using social media with this. now cnn legal analyst and criminal defense attorney joe jackson and former trump white house lawyer, jim shultz. julia, a bunch of days here to a very are closing arguments. you sit down to write these things if you're the prosecution, what are you trying to do? >> so you don't sit down and write it, you're writing it during the course of the trial, right? every witnesses, your narrative, and every witness you're building a closing argument now. you're structuring it such that you're going to get out the critical points if you're the prosecutor is what do you want to do? is you want to minimize cohen, right? the defense is going to be all about if you don't believe colin, you gotta, uh, quit. he's a liar. he's a thief. he has hatred. he's building money, et cetera. so what do you wanna do if you're the prosecution, you pivot from that. what you do is you say, what are we going to believe here? we're going to believe are common sense and good judgment. number one, we have corroboration with respect almost everything that michael cohen said right? look at the corroboration don't just look at his word number two, the defense wants you into this fascination about this phone call, about a 14-year-old. is
4:41 am
that the only evidence we have as to trump's knowledge of the purpose of this deal, the arrangement of the deal, the nature good, the deal. no. look at the sharpie checks. look at the basis for why he would want to deal access hollywood tape and what that did and how damaging it was and on the heels of that, another story being released, are you kidding? and by the way, did he not know about karen mcdougal and did he not have that is the former president knowledge with respect to that and this deal, as it relates to store let me dance is very similar, but he knows nothing. so those will be the arguments as to whether they connect. that'll be a jury question. >> and when it comes to the closing arguments from the defense, look in closing arguments are always important. almost feels like closing arguments here are absolutely mission-critical. going in, it seemed the defense strategy was to i'm just savage. michael cohen coming out of it that might still be the plan for closing arguments. but how do you think it's possibly changed or shifted in the course of this trial? i don't think it has shifted because they still have to focus on the
4:42 am
recording of that business record and that's a key part of the case, and they're gonna and the only real corroborating testimony, the direct evidence, if you will, is michael cohen's testimony. so they're going to continue to pound the way michael cohen as much as possible and turning discredited, discrediting his testimony, bringing up the inconsistency sees and reminding the jury of all of those in can sticks, consistencies and they're going to portray him as a liar and it's going to be up to the jury then to make a determination of what portion of michael cohen's testimony they're going to build we've and that's the prosecution's burden to prove the case. >> they have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt this isn't the e. jean carroll case where you have preponderance or preponderance of the evidence. this is beyond reasonable doubt. and if you have one juror, just one juror that says i don't i don't believe he's guilty given this drop, the final witness in this case, and really the only witness that offense put on other than sort of documents person was robert costello, who got blown up as they say by the prosecution,
4:43 am
largely in the cross-examinatio n i am wondering how that will sit with this jury. four, six days. i can't remember six hours ago. will the jury remember six days ago? so i don't think they did themselves of favor putting on costello especially with the mumbling and the admonishment from the judge and his temperament during during the during his testimony, i don't think they did themselves any favors, but i don't think that is really going to make a huge difference as to the jury's view on this case. >> it's really going to come down to the believability of michael cohen and some of the other evidence as joey stated, that's corroborate some of that, but it's really going to come back down to did they believe cohen or don't that? >> but what does six days do here? what does six days do in terms of how you craft your narrative when you're speaking, when you're doing closing arguments and who does six days benefit the most in terms of the approach for the german? yes great questions, kate, i think what has to happen is
4:44 am
that, is that lay off period of time, but it's your job as an attorney to remind the jurors you've sat there, right for multiple weeks. you've heard the evidence. let me remind you what it is and i think not only will we hear argument right? from both sides with respect to propagating their narratives, what will hear audio, right? we'll look at video. they'll take you through the records, still take you through various exhibits. so closing arguments bring you back to the place, right? you know how a trial is about bringing the jurors to what happened at the scene of the crime in this case, right? it has a lot to do, of course, with the records and access hollywood and the campaign, while the closing arguments will be let me bring you back to the courtroom. let me talk to you about catching kill pecker. let me talk to you about hope hicks and what she knew and access hollywood. let me talk to you about michael cohen and why if you're the prosecution, he doesn't really matter that much. if you're the defense, he's everything. and so i think that they will structure the argument structure the exhibits to give the jury the reminder that he's guilty. if you're the prosecutor or that michael cohen can't be trusted, set

reserve in an effort to bring those prices down, seen as matt egan is, with us this morning. >> john i don't really think that this move is going to be a game changer, but arguably we don't really need a game changer because gas prices, they've actually been pretty well-behaved. >> so here's what's going on. we see 3601 and gallon is the national average, the biden administration announcing the release of 1 million barrels from this northeast emergency we're talking about the northeast gasoline supply reserve. >> it was formed in 2014 after superstorm sandy, two years before caused all kinds of chaos. >> it holds gas in new jersey and in maine, only about a million barrels of gas. it's never been used before. it's actually very expensive to maintain. that's why congress, earlier this year required the energy department to sell gasoline from here. so this is really not an emergency move as much as something they had to do. there just timing it for the peak of summer driving season. now, i've talked to gasbuddy. is patrick to khan. he told me this is really not going to move the needle much for gas prices because although a million gallons, million
4:51 am
barrels sounds like a lot, it's really not it's less than four hours of national supply. now, when you look at where prices are right now, 3601 heading into memorial day weekend, obviously, much lower than two years ago. that's when gas prices ended up peaking above $5 a gallon, but also, we are clearly higher than we've been in previous years. still though, i think that the gas price situation is a lot better than we thought it could have been. there are a lot of fears of $4 gasoline because opec is holding back supply. we have russia, ukraine, the situation in the middle east is obviously extremely tense. so the fact that gas prices are well below $4 a gallon isn't so bad now, all of this comes, of course, as millions of drivers are preparing to hit the road this holiday weekend, triple a forecast 38 million people are gonna be taking road trips this holiday weekend. that's up 4% from a year ago, and it's the most on record, hopefully john, not all of them in new jersey? yes, i will be on french people

trailblazing female athletes scape that is super cool this morning. >> here is the warning. the new warning from president biden about donald trump what's next for america the sound is official account wow, a unified reich that schindler's language that's not america's. >> he cares about holding on to power i care about you that's biden's reaction to the social media video that from that trump's account posted under the headline, what's next for america is the statement the creation of a unified reich that video remained up for hours even after his campaign acknowledged those words were a mistake. >> the video though, has been removed as of today, but has the political impact? joining me right now, a cnn political commentator, bacardi sellers and mike dub keep former trump white house communications records. good to see you guys. mike. let me ask it. the trump campaigns response to all of this was that it was reposted by a staffer. and the way that the campaign put it was, it was clearly who clearly did not see
4:54 am
the word reich were talking about what do you think about how this happened? and how it was handled from yours perspective? and as a political matter, would it have been a bin malpractice for joe biden to not call this out yeah. >> well, we'll start from the top. i mean, just from a as a as a campaign matter, it was an a fine being charitable. it was either stupidity or laziness on behalf of the staffer not not recognizing that word, it's a word in the english language that frankly we shouldn't be using as a bills fan. i say the only i want to hear a break is frank reich, leading the greatest comeback and nfl playoff history. that's when you can say reich. so this was just a piece of i campaign staffer that failed, i thought the campaign did a really good job of cleaning it up. they were immediate they close the book on this, but absolutely you're right. if i was running joe biden's campaign, i would've used it. i may have not taken five takes of that.
4:55 am
he five second video to do it, but i would've i would have closed the book. i would have brought it up the way that they did. that's all part of these presidential campaigns nowadays makari the way that biden take that's not the language of any american is if any americans, it's the language of hitler's germany and the way biden has previously talked about is like this is not the language of american presidents. >> but he did expand it to like of americans that's in, that's how we put it to donors at, in boston yesterday at a campaign reception what do you do with this? because so many people so few people actually, what i mean to say, other than trump's biggest supporters, see his social, his truth social posts, and his rhetoric does not seem to be denting his poll numbers very much yeah that's the danger. i mean, it's somewhat baked into the cake that the trafficking and racism, the trafficking and antisemitism you have to call it out at this point in time
4:56 am
because we're seeing this rise in antisemitism. and for the leader of one of the two major parties in the country to be using language like this, i think is really serving. i think the fact that date, that noise that we heard this morning, i want to air was them backing the bus up over whatever intern that was, but there are other people who are responsible or should be responsible for those tweets going out. >> in fact, i think the former president himself bears all that responsibility trump's campaign, and this is going to sound strange coming coming from me but trump's campaign actually has been extremely well done. >> the candidate is the problem. i mean, he lacked discipline, but jason miller and team have done an amazing job. it just trying to right the ship in, not letting things like this happen and so it's surprising that has killed carefully as they've curated this new trump campaign, that something like this happens, which goes to show you that trump was probably involved. joe biden has to use it, but it will it move the needle much? it'd be good at fundraisers, but the average voter tier is more about our last segment, talking about gas prices. then
4:57 am
they care about the antisemitism that is donald trump one thing that we do also know am seeing that voters care about is contraception. and mike, there's something there i want to ask about as well because trump did this local interview, local interview with us i'm i'm good at those local pennsylvania reporter and he was asked whether he supports any restrictions on a person's right to contraception trump said we're looking at that and i'm going to have a policy on that very shortly. i think it's something that you'll find interesting. >> he was asked if if, that if that had something, if that meant he would support some restrictions on contraception and he waffled through it and basically suggested that some states are going to have different policies than ever then he backtracked on truth, social. >> i have never will never advocate imposing restrictions on birth control or other contraceptives. i do not support a ban on birth control. as he goes on. >> what is going on here mike? >> well a couple of things. one
4:58 am
i think this is in the almost the exact same vein as the as the previous conversation we just had again, i in this case, i think i can be i don't need to be charitable. i'm i'm going to make the direct assumption that the donald trump misheard or didn't think through the answer to the question when he said contraception and confused it with with an abortion pill. and other parts of the conversation of roe v. wade. i'm going to go there because we've seen we've seen another campaigns where even republican primary campaigns with lisa murkowski and kelley chewbacca and alaska, where murkowski uses very effectively. now in that case, kelly chewbacca meant to say contraception. in this case, i think it was very clear that the president did not. his campaign cleaned it up but i also listening to the clip and i think it's important to listen to the clip. i also wish and i think
4:59 am
the american people also hope for this is that when it is that obvious of a faux paul, whether it be on the right or the left, that the anchor clean it up. i mean, i i'm i'm a bit dubious at the anchor. was it looking for some clickbait here in the way that he phrased the question and how we phrase the question to frankly to an individual who has had a lot on his mind this week. and ben distracted by other items, i will say just in defense of all, i don't or can't get into any anchors mind, but in defense of all anchors, i ask the questions is your job to listen to my question and to answer it because i promise you i will follow like the cargo and i trust you will follow up by wishy i think i just i struggled with that answer so much because people come on this tv show and air all the time. >> it gives joe biden hale about his ability to do the job due to lack of energy or age or whatever. and to make the
5:00 am
excuse that donald trump has a lot on his mind. i mean, he's running for president of the united states the fact is donald trump is responsible for overturning roe, roe v. wade. he put the justices on the court to do it. so contraception this is the way that i would put it if i was a joe biden campaign, look if you want clarence thomas, samuel alito, and donald trump deciding what your wife does with her body reelect donald trump. >> they don't do well on this issue and they also don't do well on policy, which is why he stumbles people vote for donald trump for something else. they vote for donald trump for that machismo for that what they believed to be strength people don't vote for donald trump for policy debt because he has not, i mean, he has dumb trump has the policy depth of a shallow bathtub. and so that's what you see when you have them try to answer things about reproductive health. he simply cannot i will also say just some great as we've all lived through trump's first-term together that whenever he says i'm a policy coming in and
