more victims out there? how many more do you think well, we've had ten murders that we believe are linked. >> we've gone from four charges to six charges. the remaining four that we are attributing to him as a suspect may or may not be charged. but i can almost guarantee you that they're going to be more than ten he is smart enough to stretch his murders out to really do enough planning the document proves that. so they he could avoid a cooling off period that might fit a pattern. he very meticulously worked to change his pattern by becoming more organized guys but that means that there could be murders out there outside of the long island, new york area because we know he was an avid hunter that may never be attributed to him. i think ten is a minimum. we may never know the answer to that and they may never be charged. but i think that we're all thinking more expansively based on these new findings wow, these details we learned, they are just terrific, but we certainly

appreciate you, casey jordan and your insights into this. thank you so much. >> always great to be here thanks for joining us. >> the news continues next it's friday, june 7, right now on cnn this morning, president biden, promoting freedom and democracy from the shore because of normandy. >> while donald trump returns to the campaign trail, apparently bent on retribution president zelenskyy meeting with world war ii veterans as he goes impatient with the case of us aid to ukraine. and trump allies. steve bannon, order to prison with a very short window to appeal for help from hi are for all right. 5:00 a.m. here in washington, alive, looked at new york city. >> beautiful shot on this friday i they morning.
2:02 am
>> nice to start with that way. good morning, everyone. i'm kasie hunt. wonderful to have you with us. >> president biden returns to normandy, france today to deliver a speech on the power of democracy from a site separating the omaha and utah beaches. >> that is where american soldiers scaled cliffs to secure positions against the germans on d-day a key turning point for for allied forces in world war ii. yesterday, president biden was on hand for the ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of d-day and we watched him meet with the fewer and fewer of the living veterans who stormed the beaches on that day. and of course he offered praise for their contribution to world history you must remember the fact that they were heroes here that day does not absolve us from what we have to do today. democracy has never guaranteed every generation must preserve it defended, and fight for it
2:03 am
that's the test of the ages in memory of those who fought here, died here, literally saved the world here. let us be worthy of their sacrifice literally saved the world here, while biden was honoring our greatest generation, donald trump was spending time with kari lake and charlie kirk at a town hall in phoenix, arizona yesterday. >> it was trump's first campaign event. since he was convicted i just went through a rigged trial in new york with a highly conflicted and i mean highly conflicted, judge where there was no crime it was made up fabricated stuff all right jordi me now to discuss the kayla gardner white house correspondent for bloomberg news, a kayla, good morning to you. thanks so much for being here let's talk about what we're going to object to see from president biden today. in
2:04 am
just an hour or so, the president plans a bilateral meeting with president volodymyr is aligned and sky of ukraine. this of course, a very stark image as his, his country is of course being attacked by russian president vladimir putin. all of it, all of this martin thing, the 80th anniversary of d-day, the symbolism is impossible to miss yeah, this is the first time these tiers are going to be sitting down since december of last year. >> so it's really been a long time since they've had to have a face-to-face private discussion. and of course, in those six months, much of that time ukraine went without funding because it was stalled in congress for so long. now they have it and they're trying to make a gains that they've lost. and ukraine here, so zelenskyy is really going to be using this opportunity both this week and next week at the g7 to continue to push the us to give them some of those defense weapons that they really need. he's been had success with biden now allowing
2:05 am
or supporting ukraine, doing attacks, insider russia, which was huge and something that they had been pushing for. and really something that they want to see. they want to see the us able to give them more opportunities to be offensive rather than defensive. they think that's exactly what they need to be will to win this war eventually so the comparison that the white house is inviting with president biden's remarks, which are set for later on today. >> hey, on those very cliffs of pointe-du-hoc that ronald reagan delivered a famous address from and recognizing it's a group of army rangers that were we're trying to get take these positions against the germans. let's just flashback to that reagan's speech because i think you're going to hear echoes of this from the president today. let's we on america have learned bitter lessons from two world wars. it is better to be here ready to protect the piece than to take blind shelter across the sea, rushing to respond only after freedom is
2:06 am
lost. we've learned that isolationism never was and never will be an acceptable response to tyrannical governments within expansionist intent so reagan, of course, at the time, the republican president now it seems democrats seem to have taken up the mantle more aggressively of not wanting to be isolationist, whereas as there are increasing forces on the conservative side that are pushing for that today absolutely. i think this is super typical of nearby and he tends to use sites of history to a vote these emotions when he's talking about democracy, we've seen him do this with january 6. we saw him do this with the with the midterms and he's really tried to paint himself as a preserver of democracy proceed and right now he's contrasting himself to two men. that's flat him your putin, and donald trump. he believes putin is a threat to europe at large. that if he, congress ukraine, that he will not stop there. and yet at the same time, he's saying donald trump is someone who is not going to preserve this tradition of american foreign policy that has really been
2:07 am
preserved across parties. we know that donald trump says, if he were to be elected, he wants to bring an end to ukraine and seemingly that would meet them seeding territory. and that's war we heard biden talk a little bit about putin recently also, let's, let's take a look at that known for over 40 years. he's concerned me for 40 years. he's not a decent man. he's a dictator and he's struggling to make sure he holds his country together biden speaks very differently about vladimir putin than donald trump does. that is very jersey obviously now that trump has had somewhat a friendly relationship with putin, we know that biden, if he's elected, he's going to have to continue to remain support and congress, that is something that is upper question here. and i think that's exactly what by these two meetings with zelenskyy are so crucial because he's really going to have to show him in congress at large that he has a plan to end this war in case biden is not reelected in november so akira, let's just touch briefly on some of the other political news which is at donald

trump's vice presidential selection. we've reported here at cnn that a series of potential picks have received vetting materials the former president that was on fox talking about what he plans to do when he plans to make this pec. let's watch but i think i'll announce who that person is going to be doing the convention. >> i think that's pretty normal. well during the convention ob an interesting period of time, we want to give me any names. >> no so it actually isn't super common for the vice presidential pick to be announced during the convention. this to me speaks of trump's sort of pension for the dramatic riot to have this big buildup. >> try to figure out how to do it in a way that surprises everyone. it makes a big show out of it. shall we say? >> yeah? the campaign has really not been engaging at all when it comes to the subject of vice presidents. we've seen a couple of names come out now. doug burgum, we've heard marco rubio, tim scott some of these people that could really give trump a broader appeal. i think that's why we're watching this pixel closely, is to see

whether he can be able to win over some independence, some moderate, some people that can read here get him some of those nikki haley voters that have continued to disability in these primaries, continued to bakker and suborder, and he really needs to get that broader appeal, especially after his conviction. >> all kayla gardner, for us this morning and kayla, thank you very much. i really appreciate your time all right. >> coming up next here we will not walk away hey president biden vowing the standby ukraine ahead of critical meeting with president zelenskyy today plus if hunter biden is found guilty, will his father pardon him? >> have the answer and the fda reversing its ban on jewel will tell you more about that do you want to life kim von erich? >> i want to be world heavyweight champion and be with my family the iron claw now streaming exclusively on

real still the cnn presidential debate, june 27, bit nine life. >> on cnn and streaming on max we will not walk away because if we do, ukraine will be subjugated and will not end there ukraine's neighbors will be threatened all president biden sending a message to us allies and reminding americans about the critical role of nato in his tribute to the soldiers who landed on the beaches of normandy on the 80th anniversary of d-day in about an hour, president biden will hold a bilateral meeting with ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy in paris. so lenski shared an emotional moment yesterday with a 99-year-old hold us veteran, melvin horwitz on thursday you saved europe or at cnn's nic robertson joins us now from london. nick, good
2:15 am
morning to you. as we saw so many emotional at moments in france yesterday with the surviving american veterans. and of course, president biden speech tied together the european fight against fascism. eight decades ago to what is going being on now in russia's invasion of ukraine i can we talk a little bit about what the goal is of this bilateral meeting because there are probably concrete things about it, but there is also a lot of symbolism. >> there reason i think we heard president zelenskyy touch on that symbolism when he spoke to the french parliament earlier because he, he spoken about hitler crossing a red line and saying that putin has crossed the red line going into ukraine. now. so it is there is a lot of symbolism. there are a lot of parallels here and they really worked to president zelenskyy is advantage, but also to president biden. so there's a meeting of minds. i think on that when they get together and sit down today, but i think, you know what what
2:16 am
zelenskyy is going to want here from president biden, is that real sense of continuity? what if donald trump gets elected president? what can president zelenskyy count on from the united states? that has to be a really big worry for him and it's no surprise therefore, that he should zelenskyy should have been in the french parliament today thanking them because if the united states does under a a trump presidency become more isolationists, cut ties as donald trump has indicated, he might do with nato or not resupply ukraine with weapons than it is to france and to germany and to others in europe that zelenskyy has got to look too. i'm sure that's going to come up, but it also liked to press as biden to be able to have a little more freedom using the weapons that, ukraine is getting from the united states to strike deeper into russia russian targets right? and i mean,
2:17 am
look, in terms of donald trump, it doesn't seem to me like he can likely count on anything on that score. but let's dig into what the current american administration is letting them do. here was secretary lloyd austin talking about what america has authorized in terms of use of us weaponry on russian soil. watch or policy using long-range strike by weaponry to go into russia. edge hasn't changed but what we have done provided ukraine the ability to counter fire. and i think that's going to prove to be very, very helpful to the ukrainians going forward president biden also address this in an interview, he said that these weapons are not going to be used in moscow at the kremlin, but rather just along the border is still, it raises tensions and does a look present with zelenskyy has been told you can use these weapons for counterfire, but every military commander is going to say, well, why do i have to wait for a known enemy position
2:18 am
to fire? they're all my troops killed. my truth before i'm able to return fire. they're going to want they president zones get the very least is going to want to upgrade this to preemptive fire. let's use some of that drone imagery that tells the troops where russia's basing its equipment. that's pounding its cities and fired that. what you brain is really hoping to do here with the ability to, at the moment counter where a beer from systems on the ground or when even they get to f6 themes and a mirage 2005 get it so francis committed to give them they're going to want to fire behind the russian leinz at those positions that are targeting cities like kharkiv, right? now, what does this do militarily over time? because this is not a war that's one today or tomorrow, or next month, but probably we're looking into next here. i'm beyond this thins out the russian leinz it doesn't
2:19 am
remove them, that it pushes back there. russia's sort of support positions, it's ammunition stores, it's fuel stores. all of these things that ukraine needs to hit. two weaken russia as frontline, which ultimately is going to have to push that front line i'm back. so hit behind the front line, weaken that frontline, and save the lives of civilians and troops all right. >> are nic robertson for us in london on this friday? neck forgetful. have you? thank you i turn up next, steve bannon running out of time and run out of options before he heads to prison, plus sweltering temperatures sent nearly a dozen people at donald trump's arizona rally to the hospital sunday on the whole story. how to drag becomes such a target for the political right. >> do you think drag queens? story hours can be family-friendly? know, if they

where the sun is up on this june wanted good morning, everyone. >> i'm kasie hunt. it's wonderful to have you with us. steve bannon has until july 1 to report to prison. the former trump adviser was convicted of contempt of congress in 2022 after failing to provide documents and testimony to the january 6 house select committee bannon was sentenced to four months in prison that july 1st timeline gives him a short window to get a higher court to intervene. a defiant bannon says he's still plans to appeal all the way to the supreme court there's nothing that can shut me up and nothing that will shut me up. there's not a prison. there's not a prison. there's not a prison built. there's not a prison built. our jail built that wherever shut me up. all victory to maga okay then joining me now to discuss criminal defense attorney, former prosecutor andrew, serwer, tasky. >> andrew. good morning to you let's talk about what's going to happen here at to mr. bannon
2:33 am
what are his appeal options as he out of them as he headed for prison on the first well, the time is running out for steve bannon very quickly actually, see he has to report by july 1st. he has said that he's going to appeal. he's going to start by trying to appeal to the dc circuit in bonk, which means all of the justices on the dc circuit. and then potentially to the supreme court. now his cases trusting because it is very rare for somebody to be held in contempt of congress for that to get referred to the doj and for them to then be prosecuted and jailed. but his case is not one that appears to be very strong based on in the ruling of the dc circuit last month saying that e not in a official advisor position when this conduct allegedly occurred after the trump administration refused to engage in this in the subpoena with congress on january 6, committee, and that he didn't have any reasonable
2:34 am
justification more than that, they say that his willful non-participation, it doesn't matter that he may have been advised by an attorney not to do that. his own selection to not go when he physically could have gone was enough under the law for it to be an illegal act let's listen to a little bit of what abandons lawyer also had to say about potentially taking this to the supreme court watch so as you know, the judge today issued a surrender date of july 1 in order to let us appeal to a higher court. meaning the full court of appeals in dc and or the united states supreme court as i said in the courtroom, this is an issue that legal scholars have said from day one is a case that has to go before the united states supreme court so again, we just underscored mean is this something that the supreme court would have any reason to take up there's a few issues that are kind of spiraling on this and we saw just a couple of weeks ago, a
2:35 am
couple of months at this point, peter navarro had a similar request of the supreme court and the supreme court did not take up is there are a couple of interesting questions that are at play here. >> first is kind of generally the idea of how congress and subpoena and require former white house officials are white house aides to testify before congress. that's something that over the years has been kind of battled back-and-forth between the white house and congress. and has not resulted in prosecution's, although there have been times that people have been held in contempt of congress not jailed for it steve bannon's case as the dc circuit, the appellate court lays out, essentially says that steve bannon's case and the scheme of things is not a very sympathetic case. de bannon obviously claimed let's do the opposite, says that he was acting as an aid to the former president and believed that there was a possibility that there was an executive privilege that would be that would be put forth in his
2:36 am
situation, but the judges here as well as some of the president shows that that full outright refusal to participate at all versus kind of bits and pieces of perhaps claiming some sort of privilege and then cooperating on others. that's the part that the dc circuit really did not care for. and says that his his cases outside the scope of what these appeals in these claims call for so andrew, we heard from donald trump on this he took to truth social. >> and if we could put that up on the screen so we can read a little bit of it. he calls it a total and complete american tragedy. and of course calls it the cricket joe biden, department of injustice to crazed former republican lunatics. he says you refers to adam kinzinger and liz cheney. there. now he is actually called for them to be indicted. the january 6 committee members
2:37 am
here i suppose this is just rather typical of donald trump, but still telling i think that this falls into the category that a lot of people will see as political lawfare. >> and that's a concern in our country. i'm trying to think that it's a concern as it applies both ways obviously, the person in the executive position has a great deal of executive privilege and that has been something that has been balanced over the years against the interest of congress to subpoena folks and to gain testimony from individuals. so it's the sort of thing that is a a new development in the balance in that dance between congress and the interests of the executive in how they subpoena and collect information in act congress, and require people come forward. i think the concern being on both sides that this is a trend that will continue. i don't know that steve bannon or even peter navarro and their refusal to
2:38 am
participate are particularly significant outliers when we go back in history, both democrat and republican presidents, who have resisted stood subpoenas from congress in the past. so donald trump and his supporters certainly see this as a significant departure from what the history three of this, of the subpoena process from congress really looks like and how it's executed. >> i mean, the only thing i would add, having covered a lot of this as it unfolded during the trump administration, as some of the earlier issues with bannon and navarro, is that republicans on the hill were frustrated with how they conducted themselves. there were plenty of others who resisted doing what congress was demanding of them without getting to this point. and some of that, some of that is straight up political because there were republicans in congress who were, were, were more for okay. with bannon and navarro facing this than they were with others to take that for what you will. andrew tchaikovsky. thank you. i really appreciate your time this morning thank you. all right. let's turn now to this

2:41 am
week, there was a similar israeli strike on a un school also being used as a shelter, which left at least 45 people dead. and we're hearing just now from gaza's civil defense authorities that there was another strike on a un school that was sheltering displaced people, which according according to them, has left at least six people dead and dozens of people wounded. that's in the shati refugee camp, which is west of gaza city in the northern part of the gaza strip. so this is just really the latest in a series of incidents where the israelis have attacked us in schools that are being used as shelters, schools where people assume wrongly perhaps that there'll be safe. casey very different ben, let's also talk about the tensions that are escalating along the israel-lebanon border at president biden has pushed for a truce. >> there israel's government
2:42 am
has said that they are prepared to launch a large-scale attack. we heard this from a state department official about that watch we continue to see hezbollah taking strikes across the border, including incredibly destructive strikes and israel of course, has the right to defend itself when hit by a terrorist or fertilization. >> but we remain concerned about the risk of escalation and the risks that any type of escalation could further widen and broaden this conflict. >> then what are the consequences of israel starting even what they call a quote-unquote limited war with lebanon well, one of the first dangerous casey is that it's hard to keep a war limited. >> and of course, what we know is that hizballah is far better armed and trained disciplined? then hamas don't forget they're supported by iran. and unlike gaza lebanon has strategic depth. cvs, it's his butler
2:43 am
receives it's a weapons via syria for instance. and therefore, it's not an isolated enclave like gun now, according to some estimates, hamas, hezbollah has somewhere between 150200000 rockets. some of them with a range as much as 300 kilometers. and i was reading an article in the israeli daily hard, it's which is saying already, did the israeli military has been eroded the bathroom sure eight months of war with its abilities, it's means ended the inventories of its units to be engaged in a war if his hezbollah will put stress not only on the israeli military, but it will mean that the cities and communities of northern and central israel will so be vulnerable to attack from his butler alright, then we'd have been for us ban.

2:49 am
who also had a romantic relationship with hunter. she described how he introduced her to crack cocaine and how she disposed of a gun. hunters gun in a grocery store, garbage can president biden also says, he'll respect the verdict in his son's trial. altering an abc interview from france let me ask you, will you accept the jury's outcome, their verdict no matter what it is? yes. >> and have you ruled out a pardon for your son? >> yes. >> you have right. >> joining me now, national politics report for axios. alex thompson, who has been in the courtroom covering this trial. >> alex. good morning to you. this is i will admit headline grabbing salacious testimony from hallie biden. now she got up there and said that hunter biden had introduced her to drugs. she said it was a terrible experience. i went through i'm embarrassed and i'm ashamed and i regret that period of my life take us
2:50 am
inside the room for what it was like to actually hear all of this play out in court main truth is stranger than any soap opera in this case because it really was extraordinary hear from her for the first time. >> hallie biden is really tried to keep to herself. she'd been very private even when she got engaged. i believe it was about last next year. she really tried to keep it private. it's to sort of extraordinary that she revealed in court that she recently got married and by recently, i mean, this last weekend and he was in court with her we just hear about how hunter biden would you know, keep multiple ping pong size crack cocaine you know, i don't know what you call them crack cocaine. harb four sorry. >> i can have no idea what they're called i have i
2:51 am
apologize, used to keep them with them. >> yeah. the other thing is that this was really just a family tragedy out here on the national stage because not only did she get addicted, she was recounting that she and hunter, we're both using drugs and hunter would use drug on a daily basis? at the house where her kids were there. and these are her to school age children. you have one part that really stuck out to me. what's her young son hunter junior was texting her firm, was able to sort of use just casual terms of hey, i found a stem in this pouch in the library. you know, he knew what to call it and it just showed this toxic very sad relationship that was going on in 2017 in 2018 ahead of joe biden's presidential run so can you walk through a little bit like what in terms of the legal stuff, the damage that may have been done by some of this testimony. >> and what we expect to see today in terms of who the defense is going to put up
2:52 am
there absolutely. >> so the real damage was that hallie biden, in addition to hunter sending her text messages in the period where he owned this gun so basically, this entire case relies on the fact was he using during this period when he bought the gun and before she disposed of it and there were text messages that said you 100 biden saying, i was sleeping on a car smoking crack with someone. there was another text message where he basically insinuated that he was at a 711 buying buying crack cocaine. she testified to those things. she also testified that she thought he looked like he had maybe been using drugs that she thought she found residue in his truck that looked like he had been using drugs, but abbe lowell, his abbe lowell, which is hunter biden's lawyer. his main thing was but you never saw him using drugs? in this period of time and she said, no. so what you're going to see is naomi biden and jimmy biden,
2:53 am
which i'm guessing we don't know for sure, but i'm just guessing but they did see him during this period of time when he owned the gun and they're going to testify that, hey, we didn't see him using so because the whole point is was he a user was he an attic during this time when? own the gun and i expect that's what we're going to hear today. >> all right. alex thompson for us, a very much appreciate the texture you're bringing to this reporting here. hope to see you again soon. >> thanks so much. >> all right. time for sports. the celtics put on a dominant display to take down the mouths and game one of the nba finals, coy wire has this morning, which report? coy. good to see you. good morning. yeah. what's up, casey boston had to top-rated offense and the nba this season, they also had the second rate in defense, all your but after six eastern finals in the last eight seasons and not when it all since away they might have found what's been missing last night is named chris kristaps porzingis. the seven foot three center from latvia with a skill set so unique, they call them
