strategist at christian solace anders anderson hello to both of you are a christian. you first so so much is riding on president biden biden's abc interview, which errors and primetime tonight. what does america need to see after his fourth of july appearance saying, i'm not going anywhere american needs to see a president who is clearly in command, clearly has all of his faculties and has the endurance and stamina not just to get through november, but to get through another 4.5 years. >> and the bar is now extremely high for that, you had a number of white house staffers, good i'm sort of on background no, not for attribution quotes where they say things like, well, the president works now, he's really lucid from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or he really needs to be embed by 8:00 p.m. and that's just not what americans expect from a president. so they need to see in this interview tonight that he is not what they either saw on the debate stage on thursday or the picture that is now

being painted in interviews on background by the media the kth last hour democratic donor and marty dolan had this to say, listen i think give you put everything else aside. the simple question that the democratic leadership has to ask is, are we nominating somebody that has the confidence of the party and the country to do the job for another four-and-a-half years i think when you ask the question that way, it sort of leads you to the answer. i don't believe biden has the confidence of the party and the country that he can leave, that he can lead the country for another four-and-a-half years so keith, how resonating and messages this sending that donors are joining a chorus, including at least two democratic lawmakers who say biden should step aside. well, i think that people are getting this thing blown out of proportion. biden had a very bad debate

performance. nobody can deny that. but the point is that he is the best candidate at the moment that i can tell who can beat down trump. i mean, perhaps kamala harris could do it, but according, to one or two poles, but to have the democrats at this late stage in the game disrupt the process and bring in a new candidate and an uncertain environment is not a very risky thing for the democrats to do, especially given the power of incumbency. i contrast with republicans and i'm not saying a democrat to do do the same thing, but donald trump was impeached once and republicans tick box took stuck by him. he was impeached a second time republican stuck by him. he was indicted or republican stuck by using guided a second, third, and fourth time republicans continue to stick by him. he was convicted of 34 felonies in criminal court, and republicans continue to stay joe biden, democrat and well, that's not the point i'm making yeah.

>> when i'm not saying that democrats, they did fall exactly what the republicans doing, but democrats need to have a little bit is fine and think about this more logically and not just emotionally, logically. it doesn't make a lot of sense to replace an incumbent president with a risky alternative when incumbent presence almost always when. and so i think it's a risky move that has consequences. i'll take whoever the democrats nominate over, over, over donald trump because he is the real threat so christian, the white house, says biden will embark on this aggressive campaign scheduled to help him hey more spontaneous in interact with people. but biden also said that he'll try to get more sleep and have fewer after 8:00 p.m. engagements. so how do you see this formula working? >> there is no strategy at this point that isn't risky for democrats. it is risky. of course, to change course. but in some ways i feel like this is a real vote of no confidence in the vice president that given that the president seems like he really does not have the ability to serve for

another 4.5 years with the kind of vigor stamina that we really need an a commander in chief the vice president is a heartbeat away. and the fact that there is such a reluctance to do what to me seems very obvious to hand over the reigns. it doesn't need to be a messy process. it to say since she's going to be it's gonna be hitting battleground states as well. i mean simultaneous to the president that is now because the way round sorry, go ahead. well, yes. she's in a very tough position right now because of course she would be the logical next person and she does need to be loyal to the person who picked her on the ticket. but right now, there is no no risk strategy for democrats. they are in a tough position where there's no great plan b for them. but their plan hey, if sticking with joe biden when it seems very clear that there may not be the ability to give the kind of campaign performance necessary to beat donald trump. he's now trailing donald trump by 456 points in polls, not just nationally, but in battleground states there are in trouble if they stick with joe biden than or trouble if

they don't, democrats are in a very hard position. right now and they may just need to rip the band-aid off and do the hard thing now, before you get closer to november, if they want to have any chance at beating donald trump all right. >> go case i think that's a mischaracterization of the race. >> i remember years ago in hillary clinton was running. she was behind in the polls around this point, people were questioning her ability this whole thing about looking at polls, this several months out before an election is ridiculous. if the election were held today, yes. joe biden might not do so well, but you know what the election is not held today and once you get the fall campaign going and people have a chance to actually go in the voting booth and look at the candidates. i'm convinced that more people will come back to the democratic probe plus democrats have won the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections clearly are, clearly republican party brand is unpopular, and donald trump himself is incredibly unpopular. he is a convicted criminal who will be sentenced in september if he doesn't find another way to delay that. and the idea that the american

that shark away. >> let me start with the heroic acts by us border patrol. take a look at these photos because according to a cbp official, there happened to be members of the elite bore star unit. now, this is a unit that rescues people for a living and they just happened to be at the right place, at the right time and they jumped into action according to the cbp official, they ran into the water pulled a victim out of the water and started rendering immediate medical aid. now, according to this official, they applied a tourniquet and if you know anything about first response, if somebody needs a tourniquet, they could bleed out in the matter of minutes. now, i talked to the city of south padre island. they said that there are no fatalities. i don't know the specific condition of this individual, but according to them, there's no fatalities. now, the response was not just by land, it was also by air. take a look at this video that we obtained by the texas department of public safety, and this is from lieutenant crystal uveitis. you can see the actual shark. how do they know that this is the

shark will, according to the lieutenant? the helicopter pilot was flying very low on south padre island trying to keep that shark away from people. so these were maneuvers that the pilot was doing to make sure that that shark didn't come back closer to shore or humans. were. now, according to olivares, the texas dps stayed there until well, there was no threat. now, just imagine being one of those beachgoers and take a look at these photos that we obtained from social media because there was a family there, a mother from arlington, texas. this isn't the rio grande valley. she says that her two daughters were in the water when the shark was in there and all of a sudden she's she heard her daughter screaming. they started running out of the water. one of her daughters had blood on her leg. that's the 18-year-old that you see with a gauze. both of them are okay. according to the mother. and then there was another incident another man also was in the water. they two men were actually swimming and the mother-in-law of the man says that he just saw his son-in-law

hearing which included olympic swimmer michael phelps morning that doping issues threatened the olympics future sure. cnn's andy scholes has been following all the developments and he's joining us now, andy, a i mean, what was what were the swimmer is being tested for? >> well. fredricka you mentioned china had 23 swimmers test positive for a banned substance ahead of the 2021 tokyo games, but nothing was ever done about done about that was because chinese authorities, they said that all of those swimmers had eaten contaminated food at a hotel. and essentially the world anti-doping agency said, you oh, okay. yeah. sounds good. go ahead and compete. or that didn't sit well with many including legendary swimmer michael phelps, as you mentioned here, he recently testified at that congressional hearing saying that athletes and water need to be held more accountable. so now the top administrator of world aquatics, he has been painted to answer questions about how all that went down with those

chinese swimmers. this comes after a house committee on china on may 21 asked the justice department and the fbi to investigate the case under a federal law that allows probes into suspected doping conspiracies even if they occur outside of the u.s. now, 11 of those chinese swimmers are set to compete in paris in three weeks. they won three gold medals in tokyo. so the spotlight will certainly be on them whenever they step in to the pool. but frederica none of this is going to be settled before the paris games. the hope is that through investigations that the competition's can be cleaned up as the u.s. is set to host the summer games come 2028. >> yeah, one more thing to look for her during the paris olympic games. andy shells. thank you so much. erica. this week the fda approved a new medication that may help some of the nearly 1 million americans affected by early stage alzheimer's for decades, doctors and researchers have been trying to come up with ways to treat the condition seen as chief medical correspondent, dr. sanjay gupta has spent the last five years

investigating the breakthroughs and putting them all together in a documentary, the light as all timers patient, which airs this sunday. here's a preview it was probably only maybe three or four months in to the study that i realized mike wasn't asking repetitive questions the way he had been and those stopped and those have kind of stayed away you're a meat and potatoes kind of guy. >> yeah. they're asking you to do a vegan diet? yep i'm from kansas city. there's me there how hard was that for you? >> it was pretty difficult to start with. >> then i just had to turn around and say this is the best i can do to stay alive and i

want to live with my wife as long as i can and sanjay joins me now, sanjay, one of a number of incredible stories. >> i'm so talk to me more about this study. and what was learned from well, you know, for a lot of people, erica who received the diagnosis of alzheimer's and mike received the early onset alzheimer's diagnosis in his mid 60s they're often told them, look, there's nothing you can really do about this. >> people are told to often plan their affairs and things like that. i think what this study showed us was that in a percentage of people, not everybody, but in the percentage of people like mike. you can slow down, stall and maybe even reverse the diagnosis of alzheimer's and then cognitive impairment that comes along with it. so it's pretty incredible. and that was true lifestyle changes alone, 40% of cases of alzheimer's dementia are probably preventable according to these

larger studies now and that's not something we could have said even just a few years ago so basically again, lifestyle changes are pretty intensive if depending on your perspective as mike was sort of alluding to, but it does involve things like a vegan diet, 30 minutes of daily exercise, three times a week of strength training our day of stress relief, hourly online support sessions, things like that, which are demanding time-wise, but also very doable i think what the study showed us is that again, in some people you could reverse these symptoms and it can happen quickly. it was really within 20 weeks that you saw big change in mike and he noticed that his wife notice that he's a changed man. >> it is amazing to me to sanjay zero point out that this is just with lifestyle changes. i mean, that's really remarkable and that it does happen so quickly. i also want to ask you about the fda just this week approving a new drug for early all time timers. how promising are drugs like that well, they're promising in the

sense that for a long time there were really no new medications than over the last couple of years, you've seen these new fda approvals on a few, but let me give you a little bit of context in terms of what we're talking about here. >> these, these drugs, by the way, if they end with the word mab, that's monoclonal antibody, these are medications that require infusions and did not mab, which is the medication you're talking about that had a slowing of cognitive decline by about 29% when it came to patients in the trial. so it's not a home run. but again, for many of these patients, they've been told there's really nothing you can do. so 29% could be significant. now there were side effects with these medications and that's always the balance. but there's something that is known as amyloid-related imaging abnormalities. aria these small bleeds that typically happen in the brain and they saw that happening definitively more in the patients who received this medication versus the placebo. so i'm giving you a sense, erica, the sort of decision

>> and this is cnn knew this morning a fresh data shows us job growth cool that last month, but the labor market is still strong, adding 206,000 jobs in june. >> that's a little bit better than what was expected. unemployment though, also ticking up just a bit too, 4.1 on percent. that is the highest since november of 2021 economists the federal reserve, the white house, certainly watching the jobs market very closely. joining me now, acting labor secretary, julie su, madam secretary. good to have you with us this morning. so as i noted a little bit better than expectation in terms of jobs 206,000 added unemployment though ticking up a little bit as well. how are you feeling about the report that's right. >> we feel great about it. this is another solid jobs report showing that jobs continue you to grow under president biden's leadership. this is now nearly 16 million jobs created since the president came into office. as you noted, the unemployment rate remains at a history doric low. so prior to last month, it was at

or below 4% for the longest stretch since neil armstrong stepped foot on the moon, it's ticked up slightly now but it remains historically low and labor force participation rate, especially for prime age workers, has ticked up a bit and real wages for workers continues to exceed the rate of inflation. and that is fundamental to the presence vision that when we invest in america's workers, america is stronger in terms of america's workers in terms americans full stop the issue as i'm sure you know, is it americans are not feeling this necessarily despite the rosy picture that you're painting. why is that i think that even some of those workers sentiment surveys are changing. >> but one of the things that we have to make sure that we do and that we are doing this administration is to drown out the noise and focus on the work. we have a strategy the president has been clear about that from day one, invest in america, fix roads and bridges, make sure that every family two turns on the phosphate gets

clean drinking water. make sure every community has access to high-speed, reliable internet. all of those require work. there also reversing decades of disinvestment and underinvestment in america's communities and in america's workers, the changes will not be done overnight, but we are making significant progress. we're on the right track and we need to continue doing the work. and when i traveled the country, i've got a good job summer tour, going across all communities to talk about the importance of good jobs i see he that working people and working families are feeling that bit of breathing room. they're seeing opportunity in their community. they didn't have before. those are all fundamental to what we are trying to do to make life better for america because workers, as we know, there's so much talk about housing and the housing issue and the expense, the cost of housing, whether it's rental or buying and that tends to bring a focus on the fed and what may or may not happen at the september meeting. the fifth wasn't expecting unemployment as i understand it, to go above 4% until next year. so that coupled with this report which

shows a little strong in terms of jobs added, but still shows a little bit of cooling. do you think that these combined could be leading us perhaps to a rate cut? >> i mean, we don't speak about fed policy, but remember, most people said that the unemployment rate would not get blood hello, 4% for a long time. and instead, again since 2021, when the president came into office, the unemployment rate has gone down from remember where it was? in july, this exact de and 2020, it was nearly 12 12%. and people were being told stay home for july 4th, they away from other people and we're in a very different moment right now. and it did not happen by accident. it did not happen it was not inevitable. it happened because this present had a national strategy that did not exist in 2020. and we are continuing to put that strategy into place. before i let you go, speaking of the president, i'm curious when you're last interaction
