a. >> warm welcome to our viewers, joining us from around the world. i'm max foster just ahead, joe biden, the host nato leaders, at the white house as the chorus of democrats and supporters calling for him to withdraw from the u.s presidential race only gets louder plus a man suspected of killing three women with a crossbow has been captured in london. and euro 2024, final match is sets after a dramatic goal by england in the last minute live from london. >> this is cnn newsroom with max foster it is thursday, july the 11th, 9:00 a.m. here in london, 4:00 a.m. in washington, where us president joe biden will face a major test today when he holds a press conference at the end of the nato summit, nato leaders are nervous. >> democrats have been watching his every move over the past few days. on wednesday, mr. biden hosts did allies for a

lavish dinner at the white house, where he toasted nato strength for neighbors because we all share common beliefs in dignity equality, democracy, freedom we're all neighbors because we're there for one another neighborhood i grew up in. >> that's what you do when a neighbor needed help, your pitched in on the bullies threatened the block, you stepped up well, there haven't been any major gaffes, all missteps at the nato summit for him, but sources tell cnn, democratic donors are holding back pretty big checks over concerns about the president's viability i did george clooney, who helped raise nearly $30 million for mr. biden in los angeles last month now says he should exit the race even some leading democrats in congress seem to think the president's decision to stay in the race could change it's up to the

president, to set aside if he is going to run we're all encouraging him to make that decision. >> he has said he has made the decision. he has said firmly this week, she is going to run. do you want him to run? >> i want him to do whatever he decides to do. all i have complete confidence with joe biden do the patriotic thing for the country, and he's going to make that decision is never done. >> so supported me peter welch of vermont. >> now the first senate democrat to call on mr. biden to withdraw from the presidential race. he joins nine democratic members of the house. welch says, he has great respect for the president, understands why he wants to run. but he writes in a washington post op-ed, we cannot unsee see president biden's disastrous debate performance. we cannot ignore or dismiss the valid questions raised since that night i'm calling on president biden to withdraw but so far despite the mounting pressure, there's no

sign. president biden is willing to exit the race cnn's kayla tausche has more from washington with world leaders at hand, president biden, eager to get back to business as usual stronger supply chains, stronger economy stronger military, and a stronger nation. >> and the white house wants to move on from speculation about the president it's political future. but for democrats, the domino effect continues after george clooney penning an op-ed in the new york times calling on biden to step aside writing it's devastating to say it, but the joe biden, i was with three weeks ago with the fundraiser was not the joe big effing deal. biden of 2010. he wasn't even a joe biden of 2020. they'll make a rob reiner join, including writing on x democracy is facing an existential threat. we need someone younger to fight back joe biden must step aside and house speaker emerita nancy pelosi, noncommittal. >> it's up to the president to

suicide if he is going to run, we're all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short and colorado senator michael bennet on cnn became the first senate democrat to break with biden publicly. bennett calling the state of the race very worrisome. >> donald trump is on track, i think to win the selection in may maybe win it by a landslide. and in the white house in the time since that disastrous debate, i think has done nothing to really demonstrate that they have a plan to win the election. >> and adviser to the president said, feeling biden's inner circle are concerned enough to pierce biden's firm position only family could do that. and only if there's hard data the adviser telling cnn of his wife and sister, jill and valerie won't let him go down in flames since the debate. cnn's poll of polls shows trump leading biden by five points. the first time this year the candidates are separated by a
1:06 am
margin of more than three points and some donors planning events in chicago, in florida say they're now up in the air. but for biden, it's full steam ahead for now. >> it every nato member is committed to doing their part to keep the alliance strong what journalist carl bernstein is reporting that chuck schumer, the senate's top democrat, is frustrated by what he sees with president biden digging in his heels over staying in the race and he wants to assemble a small group of top democrats to see the president and his family for a full discussion of his political viability but it seems spoke with cnn's anderson cooper he's frustrated with the whole situation, especially the way the white house, the way biden away the first family has dug in and has said that there's no more discussion of this that's the frustration and schumer is hearing from every quarter from donors, from

members of the senate, from members of the house that he, as a leader of the party has got to do something after to see that there is an orderly process in which the best candidate who could best defeat face. donald trump becomes the nominee, and there's grave doubt that that person is joe biden. grave doubt among senators of the democratic party, grave doubt among members of the house of the democratic party, among donors, and the fact that he the leadership of the house in the senate the party and self, the donors everybody has left a little hanging here except for joe biden who says, i'm the nominee i'm running and at the same time, it is the greatest secret in the world that has been unsynchronized, that there is huge movement. again, st. joe biden running in the party right now, and that includes among the senators that schumer

is talking to and the house members the republican national convention starts on monday in milwaukee, wisconsin, and that's the deadline for donald trump to announce his running mate. soon as kristen holmes has new reporting former president donald trump has yet to make a decision on who his vice vice-presidential pick will be. >> but he was weighing in on all three of the time up contenders over the last two days, some with more negative input than others. now as we have reported, there are three people who have been circulating at the top of the list, north dakota governor doug burgum senators marco rubio of florida, and senator jd vance of ohio. now, he did weigh in on burgum and not necessarily in the best light something we have heard from allies of rubio as well as vance, is that burgum went too far on the issue of abortion when he passed a near total abortion ban the state of north dakota people have warned donald trump that that could be bad for trump because they think that it would bring the issue of abortion something
1:09 am
donald trump has tried to stay away from on the campaign beryl back into the spotlight. donald trump himself has said that privately, but now he was saying it publicly. take a listen to a little bit of an issue it's a pretty strong ban. you know, i think doug is great, but it is a strong he's taken a very strong stance or the state has he also had a compliment for senator jd vance after reports he didn't like his facial hair saying he actually liked it and it makes him look like a young abraham lincoln and when it came to marco rubio he acknowledged that it was complicated because they both lived in the same state, but the residency itself was a little bit difficult, but he said that it was easily fixed. we are still told by people close donald trump, that he has not yet made up his mind, or if he has, he's not sharing it with anyone yet, as we have said, on monday, that is the latest that he can decide. but one source told me it could some as late as monday morning. kristen holmes, cnn, washington democratic representative alexandria

>> in quetta, a diplomatic sources mediators from the u.s israel, qatar, and egypt were cautious, but hopeful when heading into talks, but it's not clear if any progress was made. israel's prime minister met with the top us envoy, envoy for the middle east in jerusalem, benjamin netanyahu emphasized his commitment to a ceasefire a deal, as long as israel's quote, red lines are preserved. this comes as the israeli military ordered, palestinians to evacuate all of gaza city, urging more than 250,000 people to head south since sunday amid ongoing israeli operations, doctors without borders says its last health facility in northern gaza but it's closing following the evacuation orders the idf says it has opened a safe passage routes for civilians to reach humanitarian zones. hamas says the evacuation threatened to return negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage release deal 2.0. but the israeli army is defending its actions in the

official told cnn's wolf blitzer that the pier didn't work as well as they had hoped. >> we said from the beginning that that wasn't exactly what this period was designed to do over a long period of time. and that it would be hard, complicated task. it proved to be that it's also very susceptible to the whether we can get the ceasefire deal in place and we've gotten negotiators in cairo right now talking about this, it would give us six weeks of calm and phase one, which would allow for a much more freedom of movement but that humanitarian assistance inside gaza salma's with us just about the talks were not hearing how they ended. >> is that positive or negative? >> look, it's only been a few hours, quite literally. i mean, these talks ended last night of course you can imagine diplomats, mediators are making their way back home and so is then new, so we're working our sources to find out more. but what you need to know is that there was some cautious optimism, some hope before this new round of talks, what were they discussing? what was on the table you had these spy chiefs, including the head of

the cia, all in doha, working on the details of what would be the first phase of a three-part deal that had been posed by president biden. that first phase, as you heard, is a potential six-week ceasefire that would see palestinian prisoners, some of them released from israeli detention in exchange for israeli hostages held in gaza. most vulnerable among them, women, the elderly, the sick to be released. we could also potentially see during this ceasefire, israeli troops withdraw from major population centers in potentially some gazans able to return to certain parts of gaza. that's the proposal that's the idea that's what's on the table. the u.s. egypt and qatar, of course, being the key mediators in this. but it all comes down to the details of course, which hostages will be released, which palestinian? in prisoners will be released? what is the ratio? what is the logistics? what is the sequence of the release that will take place? and time is of the essence here. of course max, we are talking about a deteriorating humanitarian situation on the

ground that gets worse by the minute israel has launched a fresh offensive on gaza cities now, the talks doesn't help the talks at all. hamas says this takes the talks back to square one. others. may say, well this strengthens israel's hand on the negotiating table. the practicality of it, the nitty-gritty of it is this impacts families and people's lives who are quite literally we'll be right now running, fleeing from their homes because of this offensive, you already had nearly the entire population of the gaza strip displaced. you have some 38,000 people killed so far in this conflict, according to gaza's health ministry the united nations is warning feminist spreading to the gaza strip so you have this worsening situation on the ground, this increased pressure on talks in doha, but no resolution yet. >> okay. salma, thank you british police have captured a man wanted in connection with the deaths of three women in an attack, police believe involved a crossbow officials said

joe biden to step aside and not run for reelection. this comes despite comments from the president that he is quote, not going anywhere, a recent poll show him trailing donald trump in key swing states. an american airlines flight aborted its takeoff after multiple tires exploded on the runway. you can see smoke and debris billowing from the wheels boeing seven, 3-7, as it attempts to take off from tampa, florida no injuries reported. and inside out two is now the highest-grossing pixar movie ever globally. the film has already earned one and a quarter billion dollars and it still isn't out in theatres. it edged out incredibles to the previous record holder now president biden is set to hold a news conference in the hours ahead. as the nato summit wraps up in washington on wednesday, he hosted a dinner at the white house attended by nato
1:31 am
secretary general jens stoltenberg and other world leaders. but the summit has been overshadowed by mounting questions and concerns over president biden's reelection. bid earlier in the day, he sat down the talks in the oval office with the new british prime minister keir starmer mr. biden called the u.s. and uk the best of our allies and said the two men had much to talk about, including soccer start off, are you talking about football. we soccer by the way you know, soccer become incredibly popular here, you united states, really growing but any rate, a lot going on i think she can closer ties in your crews for all of us can clients great idea that we're gonna be working together on i thought we had a good meeting today, nato, very good meeting and i think things are moving in the right direction president biden has been
1:32 am
looking to project strength during his meetings with nato leaders, but so far, there's been little to ease the concerns of congressional democrats worried about the president's chances for i reelection soon as monday, raja has more from capitol hill democratic fears are only intensifying in the aftermath of joe biden's debate performance. late last month. in fact, all the efforts by the president to say, i'm running, i'm running the campaign saying that he's going to pushed forward. that has done very little to calm democratic anxiety on capitol hill. in fact, many democrats neither said they want to see more, or they're suggesting that joe biden has still may not run. in fact, that's what nancy pelosi suggested. and a national television interview just earlier in the day on wednesday, and that led to a whole day of back-and-forth, including from some biden allies who said that, like john fetterman said, this is strange remark that she would make it this time. others, however, echo that remark and hope that
1:33 am
joe biden would make the right decision even if they were not trying to fortunately, call him to step aside, suggesting that he should step aside because they're worried that he could take them down. they can take congress down with him in november. now, there are still eight, only eight democrats have come out publicly and calling for joe biden to step aside. the eighth, pat ryan of new york, he's new york swing district, democrat, other swing district democrats are also on that list. and some of them, them do harbor those concerns privately, including senator sherrod brown of ohio and senator jon tester of montana to democrats in red states who are facing difficult reelection in the fall, both of whom said behind closed doors on tuesday that joe biden would lose in november. it will not reiterate those same concerns when we asked them earlier in the day on wednesday, but would speaking to democratic senators, it was very clear that there are still ample fear
1:34 am
about what joe biden's candidacy may mean for them in remember i think he's going to get this thing to the legitimate concerns of all iowa voters. my job is to fight for them on everything, to fight for lower drug prices how concerned are you about his chances in november? >> i'm very concerned. it's going to be a close race and we already knew that. >> but i mean, you have to be concerned about his viability aren't you i am deeply concerned about joe biden winning this november because it is an existential threat to the country if donald trump wins. >> so i think that we have to reach a conclusion as soon as possible. >> and this all comes at a critical time for the biden campaign to ease those democratic concerns, the senate and the house go on recess after thursday for a week and on the senate south of the capital on thursday afternoon, three top biden officials will be briefing democratic senators
1:35 am
about the state of the campaign. can they ease those concerns? there's a big question and we're also hearing that the democratic leader hakeem jeffries plans to relay the concerns he is hearing privately directly to the white house itself. the president himself. so this, this debate within the democratic party still playing out manu raju, cnn, capitol hill since money for that report a night, if us house member has joined the calls for president biden to exit the race. >> democrat blumenauer of oregon said, in a statement on wednesday, he hopes mr. biden will come to the conclusion that he should not be the democratic presidential nominee more now on the nato meeting, washington, canada has announced an additional $367 million military aid package for ukraine on the sidelines of the summit nato leaders issued a declaration, declaration affirming ukraine's future is within the alliance and its path to membership is irreversible. they also for the
1:36 am
first time called out china, expressing profound concern over its deepening partnership with russia as nato allies agree today. in our summit declaration china has become a decisive enabler of russia's war against ukraine and china's support increases the threat russia poses to euro atlantic security i allows allies have stated clearly that china cannot enable the largest conflict in europe. in recent history without this negatively impacting the interest and reputation ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy is making the rounds with nato leaders. >> he met wednesday with the german chancellor and the dutch prime minister. and mr. zelenskyy is thanking denmark and the netherlands for donating us f 16 fighter jets to he's military. additional aircraft will be coming from belgium, norway, not as here. um, does he go back from this
1:37 am
summit better-armed, at least well, sadly, this is something that he has been pushing for for some time. we know that the transfer of f-16 jets has been in the works for a couple of months now, we know that ukrainian pilots have of course been training. we heard from us secretary state antony blinken saying that the first batch of pilots who were undergoing training graduated earlier this year. so those jets are already on their way to ukraine. of course, this comes just a day after we heard from the u.s. and other nato allies saying that they were boosting their support when it comes to air defense systems as well. this has been a huge goal for president zelenskyy from the outset of the war, but especially going into this nato summit, trying to secure those concrete commitments for more military support. there has been some suggestion over the last couple of weeks that ukraine has been somewhat forgotten, left alone clearly this isn't the case the nato alliance really bolster during its military support, canada as well, announcing a new multimillion dollar aid package, military aid package for ukraine. so there has been that huge sort of pledge of military support from the nato
1:38 am
alliance. but of course, zelenskyy also wants to see concrete commitments when it comes to ukraine's membership of the alliance that's something he's been pushing for, of course, from the outset of the war you mentioned there, they said that this is irreversible that ukraine's place will be within the nato alliance. but there was no clear timeline for when that might take place. there are still commitments that need to be fulfilled, still prerequisites that need to be fulfilled. so until those conditions are met, ukraine won't be fully admitted into the nato alliance. but this is something that clearly member states have committed to again, reiterated their support for during this summit. but again, no timeline for that. and that is something that zelenskyy has been asking for. >> and in terms of the leaders, there a lot of them are facing domestic political issues where there are forces rising who are less inclined to give ukraine financial support in future is there a sense that you had to
1:39 am
