hospital. street teams are giving ivs on the streets now, trying to mitigate this as well adaptation happening in real time as last june was the hottest ever here in phoenix five and-a-half degrees above normal july on pace to be six degrees above normal very quickly build these hottest days on record around the world. >> what's the significance there? >> well there's 1 1,000,000,000,000.5 tons of extra carbon dioxide pollution in the sky and the more that it's put their through the burning of fossil fuels, the hotter we get here on earth, just another record that fell. they've been falling year after year. it will continue to unless that is fixed all right. >> bill weir for us in phoenix, breaking all the wrong kind of records. thanks so much for your report this morning. >> brand new hour of cnn, new central starts now the expanded universe that is the message
6:01 am
from a new campaign memo from kamala harris's campaign chair. >> their new plan now to go on offense for a whole new crop of what they call winnable voters and protest among congressional democrats, california congresswoman judy chu on our show, last hour is now the latest this democrat to announce she will not be attending the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu's address to congress today. why so many democrats are boycotting? >> and delta ceo promising that tomorrow will be a quote, unquote, normal day. >> what that looks like now is the company is facing a federal investigation over its handling of the global it outage. i'm kate bolduan with sara sidner and john berman. this is cnn new central all right. breaking overnight, it expanded universe of swing voters. that is what the harris campaign says, has opened up to democrats after the vice president jumped into
6:02 am
the race. that campaign released a memo overnight claiming that the campaign is redrawing its electoral map going beyond the blue wall, states of wisconsin, michigan, and pennsylvania the biden campaign, it's or resigned itself to that strategy. the harris campaign says, it can expand meanwhile, president biden is preparing to give an oval office address that he honest it's like never wanted to give explaining why he has dropped his campaign. cnn's arlette science is at the white house. arlette first with the vice president, what she doing well, john harris says campaign is arguing that this race is now more fluid than ever with vice president kamala harris expected to be at the top of the democratic ticket to face off against donald trump in november, the campaign chair jen o'malley, dillon released a memo this morning arguing that they really believe harris can expand from support for it in 2020 listen, lee, referencing her appeal among black, latino, and young voters, and they also believe that she has a real opening
6:03 am
with the undecided voters in this campaign. >> what jen o'malley dillon argued was that there is now an expanded universe of winnable voters. they believe many of these undecided voters are democratically meaning and also that they care about some of the issues vice president kamala harris is set to champion in her campaign. now, it's a bit of a difference from where the biden camp pam campaign was just a few weeks ago they are now harris is saying that they will be able to play in on offense in all of the battleground states when just two weeks ago, the biden campaign had outlined that they're clearest path to victory was simply in the blue wall, michigan and pennsylvania, and wisconsin. so now they really are seeing many more, multiple pathways to the presidency for kamala harris. now, harris yesterday today made her battleground state debut in the battleground state of wisconsin really previewing the pitch he's planning to take to voters as she makes her case against donald trump. but also zeroing in on issues like expanding economic opportunity for the middle-class and
6:04 am
abortion rights. take a listen who believe in reproductive freedom will stop donald trump's extreme abortion bans because we trust women to make decisions about their own now back here at the white house, president biden is preparing to outline in extensive detail for the first time his decision to drop out of this race when he will speak to the country in the an oval office address this evening, he has been working on that speech since sunday. we are pulled and it really will give him an opportunity to explain to americans why he decided to drop out, but also lay out the path and plans for the coming months for the end of his presidency that size at the white house, big events, they're happening today. >> arlette, thank you very
6:05 am
much. >> all right. as president biden prepares to tell the nation tonight why he ended his reelection bid donald trump's team already looking to knock down the historic address in a letter to abc, nbc, and cbs, trump demanded that he be given equal airtime claiming biden's oval office address is a quote primetime campaign commercial kamala harris, this whole comes as trump returns to the campaign trail today for the first time since biden dropped out of the race, cnn's alayna treene has the latest for us from a washington dc. they she is asking for equal time that's right. >> there's a lot of questions around what this next debate could look like. of course, with kamala harris. and now seeming like donald trump's more likely opponent this fall. but look, i think this rally today is going to be really interesting. it's going to essentially offer us the first glimpse of how donald trump and his campaign are trying to define kamala harris, which they now see as they're most
6:06 am
likely appointment opponent, come this fall. and remember, just four days ago, donald trump is back on the trail after having accepted the republican presidential nomination in milwaukee. and then he was still facing off with joe biden and a rematch with the president. now, of course the political terrain have shifted, has shifted under his feet, and i'm really told that his campaign is trying to re-imagine the playbook that they have had for over a year now, that was solely focused on going after an 81-year-old unpopular incumbent. and now they're really trying to figure out what best way to define kamala harris as they look at head. now, donald trump and his team have been workshopping different lines of attacks against harris. we heard some of those during a call that trump himself held with reporters yesterday. i will point out this is the first such call of its type. this election cycle. take a listen to what he said. >> i haven't agreed to anything. i agreed to a debate with joe biden, but i want to debate her and she'll be no
6:07 am
different because they have the same policies i think debating is important for a presidential race. i really do. i think that you have to get you sort of have an obligation to debate now, sara, i mean, this is very interesting because this is donald trump himself putting a marker on him wanting to debate the shows that he is still willing to go head-to-head with kamala harris despite of course, the shift in opponent, i do know that of course donald trump and his team have a lot more work to do before they get on a debate stage with harris, but it's part of the discussion happening behind the scenes. sara, i can guarantee you that it will be a very different debate than you saw between him and joe biden, even though he's saying it won't be thank you so much, alayna treene. appreciate it. >> also today is really prime minister benjamin netanyahu is giving an address to a joint meeting of congress. his goal to put the focus back on the war against hamas and also getting hostages out. the biden administration has voiced some renewed optimism around a possible hostage which deal and
6:08 am
ceasefire. but when it comes to netanyahu specifically, many democrats, nearly 90 of them now they don't want to hear it. dozens of democratic lawmakers from both the house and senate have said that they will not be attending netanyahu's speech, who will also not be there. vice president kamala harris and republican vice presidential nominee, j.d vance. vance we will not attend to do to vice presidential nominee duties. that's according to the trump campaign. and kamala harris is going to be meeting with netanyahu privately tomorrow, joining us right now is democratic congresswoman jan schakowsky of illinois. it's good to see you again, cars woman, you announced yesterday. you will not be attending this speech i do remember you also did not attend his last address. i believe to congress some years back. why are you not attending this time well, first of all, kate, thank you very much for having me today i am a proud jewish woman and i have had a long conduction to the state of israel. >> and frankly, that is why i am not going to hear benjamin
6:09 am
netanyahu who the majority two thirds of israelis want to see him gone. i'm really disappointed that he has been invited to speak at in the united states by both republicans and democrats. and i hope that people will understand that he is a danger to so the state of israel, to peace in the region. he is in, he is a danger to the so many people want to see the hostages come out and they are not going to, because he doesn't care about them we are still seeing palestinians that are dying in gaza. and this is time for the war to end. he does not want this war to end because as long as he is it continues and he is in power, then he is happy because if he is not in power and his thrown out like the
6:10 am
most israelis want he could end up going to jail much, you know, he's been convicted as well i did did see a statement from the white house that just came through right before i came on, that the press secretary is saying that both together following biden and netanyahu is meeting tomorrow, they will be meeting together with families of americans held hostage by hamas. >> they will be doing that tomorrow. i had your colleague democratic congressman brad sherman on yesterday. he is attending this speech and he says that he thinks all democrats should as well. let me play this for you. >> i have sought to be there whenever a head of state or head of government from any of our allied countries comes, i hope all my colleagues join us. there. and it's not a statement that you agree with this or that particular politician how
6:11 am
do you react to that you know, i think it is a courtesy to attend when a head of state is there. i don't feel that he deserves that relate. and that, you know, this is this is someone who was no oh, end game in mind at all. he is not for a two-state solution coming for justice for palestine the indians, as well as israelis who could live in peace together. he's adamantly against that. i think if we want to move forward as a wall as a world, as a region in the middle east, than bibi netanyahu is a terrible leader in the state of israel. i'm sorry. sorry. i cannot go there because i see in some way it is some kind of a justification for him. and i don't want to be there and i am sir, he's a very
6:12 am
clever guy. i'm sure he'll find some way to say something that will get bipartisan people standing up and applauding for him that will be the picture. he's a very clever man and i thank you is a danger let me ask you about politics here. >> right now. you have endorsed kamala harris, said she since joe biden has said that he will not seek reelection one line of attack that we have all that we're already hearing from republicans is that kamala harris is extremely liberal and one thing we know is that highlighting that before she became vp, she was rated by the nonpartisan organization gov track as the way they put it as quote, the most liberal compared to all senators. and then there was senator tom cotton who came on our show yesterday speaking to john berman. and he said this repeatedly she is a san francisco liberal a san francisco liberal. san francisco liberal, a failed san
6:13 am
francisco liberal. she is a failed at san francisco liberal is that a problem for far and your party in this now revamped presidential race well, is that all he could figure out how to say? he had a lot more okay. >> okay? >> you know, if we're talking about liberal if we're talking about justice and rights for all americans, all americans, if we're talking talking about reproductive rights for people, for talking about addressing the crisis in our air and water, all of these things are good. and i think that the majority of americans have had it with donald trump. you know, i watched that debate and i want to tell you, i know it was a bad day for joe biden for for joe biden, but i want to tell well, you biden's worst day.
6:14 am
he is 1,000 times better than donald trump. and now we have making history. the first one but the first black woman who could be the president of the united states of america. i'm excited about it as much as i'd love joe biden and i've been loyal to him. he has now said what we should do, and i'm anxious to do it here. this is not too liberal. this is about the united states it's some america values that we love to share of democracy and what donald trump has said that on the very first state he wants to be a dictator. this is about fascism or freedom that's the choice. >> six months now for both to make the case on either congresswoman. thank you so much for your time. john right. >> new social media trends storing vice president harris taking the internet by storm, but will she be able to turn me? teams into votes?

wild vice president kamala harris taking trump policy to task at her first rally as a presidential candidate, the crowd clearly behind her as excitement for her campaign grows and grows among democrats join me now, cnn senior political commentator david axelrod, and cnn political commentator and former biden white house communications director kate bedingfield. thank you both for being here. david, i want to talk to you about this. is there has been a time where we have seen the democrats or any party go from doldrums worry division two absolute excitement yeah, look, i think this is a unique set of circumstances. there is a great deal of affection and respect for joe biden. there was concern about whether he was able to move forward. there is unanimity in opposition to donald trump and people were hungry for a candidate who they thought could take it to trump
6:21 am
and you can feel the sense of relief among democrats and you look at the polling that's come out in the last 24 hours, what you see is a consolidation of democrats, including younger democrats african americans, and so on. people of color who were tepid before and have now come back. so she is consolidating the democratic base. there's more work to do. it's going to be a long, hard slog and you can see how the republicans are trying to characterize her or caricature her but certainly democrats are in a much better position today than they were you know, 48 hours ago. yeah. >> it's fascinating to just feel that from what you're hearing from different people and seeing the crowds in the way they've reacted to her there is you mentioned the poll, a new one. reuters ipsos poll showing that harris is up by two points but still of course, within the margin of error. kate, i want to ask you
6:22 am
about, it is interesting to me that we're not we're not hearing the words worried about whether a woman could become president. never mind the fact that she's a black woman who also how south asian roots, when you think about what could happen here, i mean, is america going to be ready for a black female president? >> i think so because she is the most qualified to take the office. i mean, she has been she's been district attorney. she's been attorney general, spent a senator or she obviously has served for now almost four years as vice president and alongside joe biden so you see these efforts by republicans to caricature her as san francisco liberal. i think if this is a race that is going to be fought on the grounds of who is more extreme, that is winning territory for the democrats and for harris, when you have in trump and vance, people who are advocating that women shouldn't have the right to make their own decisions about their bodies. you have you know, people who are saying that are free and fair
6:23 am
elections are no longer a core fundamental tenant of who we are as americans. appreciating free and fair elections. so i think this is a race about extremism harris is going to have the upper hand. and yes, i think the country is ready for a woman president, ready for to see kamala harris behind that resolute desk? absolutely. but i also i agree with x. and certainly if you look at this this polling, it is going to be a slog. i mean, there's no question. the country is partisanship in the country is very calcified and there's no question this is going to be a close race. but i think in the end, she's got what it takes. >> i want to ask you about some of the things that the republicans are trying out. david, we've had donald trump go on his true social and truth, social and just try a bunch of things, calling her dumb you heard the san francisco liberal thing happening again and again and again and he tends to use the
6:24 am
word dumb. i hate to point this out, but against black people, he did with don lemon. he's done it with others so had a problem with women. he tends to characterize women as crazy and as nasty and so on limit, just say all of that is dumb okay. from a political standpoint, that is a dumb way to approach kamala harris because she's palpably not. and every time she goes out now people see he she's a formidable person the san francisco liberal thing is where they're ultimately going to go. i'm not sure his team is all that happy to have him go out there and caricature her and demean hur in the way that he is as he goes with women, that they weren't supposed to go after her, but only what she has done. right. yeah. well, hasn't read the talking points or it's hard to contain him to talking points but she has to combat that the truth of the matter is that she's been a and of center-left politician
6:25 am
for her her career. it's interesting that she's leaning into her work as a prosecutor, as an attorney general. i think you're going to see he more of that because this really is going to be a battle for the middle and among independent voters. and i think it's clear that her campaign understands that, but they're going to have to fight back against what you heard from senator that are cotton. let me just say one thing and it just because i haven't been trolled on social media yet today, i let me throw a log on the fire. i heard my really dear friend and she is congresswoman schakowsky leaning into i'm so excited. this is a historic thing. a black woman and so on. you don't hear kamala harris saying that and she's smart not to she's not running to be the first black woman president. she's running to be president of the united states and she thinks she's the best qualified and the most representative of this country as a whole and that's how she should run. and that's how people should talk about her
6:26 am
you know, the fact is she her supporters should talk about why she's the strongest candidate, not that she's a historic candidate. everybody can see that, but that's not enough to bring the voters who they need to come along. >> i'm getting on my social media right now. david axelrod worry about it welcome to my world david and kate thank you so much. great conversation. kate david, can take we are live at the world's busiest airport with a new update from delta airlines ceo, why he is now promising tomorrow. things will be back to normal you're telling people about the new experience insurance marketplace it's very well shop with over 40 top providers to find you a really great rate that sounds mazy and on average, you could save over $800. i'm ready to save over eight on strike now it experience.com slash feeling from a backed-up god we relax, works naturally with the water

will be a quote, unquote, normal day for the airline after now six days an absolute mess sparked by a global it outage that stopped all major airlines in their tracks more than 500 delta flights were canceled tuesday so far today, just 47 is as it's looking, but the company is now under federal investigation after their meltdown continued well after other airlines were back to business as usual, transportation secretary pete buttigieg, which was on with me this morning this is clearly exposed. >> a lot of vulnerabilities, not just in the airline sector, but in the entire global economy. the fact that a simple glitch like this ricocheted around the world is a real cause for concern. and again, i think the but the real watch word here is resilience. how can we make sure our systems are positioned to quickly recover when something like this happens. but i want to note most of the airline sector did quickly recover. things were different at delta and that's exactly why we're investigating them. >> cnn's isabel rosalas is at the world's busiest airport,

undermined it. and finally, john, when you look at the coalition partners that he brought into government, people like ben gvir and smotrich these are known raisis and bigots there, the heirs to meyer kahani, party, which the u.s. put on our terror watchlist these are the people who were calling the shots in the west bank and other places. so the reality is that this prime minister netanyahu's extreme government does not reflect the shared values between the people, the united states, and the people of israel this spring you said something to the effect of that you weren't sure you knew what the biden administration's policy was toward israel? >> i believe it was dealing police specifically with rafah how would you like a harris administration's policy toward israel to be different than the current policy? >> well, john, i believe that
6:42 am
the biden administration, the u.s. government, could be using more of the levers at our disposal because all to achieve the goals that the biden-harris administration has set out. both with respect to limiting civilian casualties in gaza making sure more humanitarian assistance can reach the people in gaza. and very importantly, on the west bank where the retiring israeli idf, general in charge of that area has indicated that extremist settler violence and the seizure of palestinian lands on the west bank is undermining the security of israel and violates the values of israel. i agree with general folks who made that comment, and i i think that the biden-harris administration should continue to focus on applying sanctions to those who are committing those violent acts, violent extremist settlers on the west

bank do you want to see difference a day light, a change with vice president harris at the top of the ticket on policy toward israel look, i respect whatever decisions vice president harris makes on this particular issue. >> i will continue to press the points that i have been making including the ones i just made with you. i think the most important thing right now is just to continue to press for two things. one the creation of a two-state solution. this has been the biden administration's policy. it's been a bible partisan policy. the united states to create some light at the end of this dark tunnel and a couple that with the normalization agreement between saudi arabia and israel which would greatly strengthened israel's security. while we allow self-determination for the palestinian people. so that is what i hope the focus beyond, you have over the course of

aerosol. >> i was in her class and i can tell you that she is a pragmatist. she wants to move this country forward. she wants to make sure that every american can succeed. unlike mccormick, who is joined at the hip with donald trump and wants to drag the country backwards. so it's a pretty clear choice whether you want somebody who supports american families who believes that we should all have a chance to succeed, build an inclusive economy or republicans who want to just give big giveaways to the big oil and gas companies and undermine our democracy. so the choices are we're going to be very clear and i'm confident that bob casey will do very well in pennsylvania as he always has senator chris van hollen from maryland. >> thanks so much for being with us the morning. always great to talk to you. >> is there a welcome problem for kamala harris, his campaign? too many celebrities, not enough time, how the change on the democratic ticket has

6:51 am
entertainment? mr. now that endorsement from olivia rodrigo was huge. >> kate as a young voters are going to be key in this race. but what i can tell you is hollywood is in, they are re-energize after feeling disillusioned with biden and you're absolutely right. celebrities were not but publicly endorsing biden because he was not a popular candidate will now with harris, i am hearing from sources that i spoke to. i spoke to publicists, agents political strategists who are working with celebrities. they all feel like harris is the right candidate at the right time in fact, a major television producer, greg berlanti, had to tell him mean this. he said, quote, i haven't seen so many people that i know here and elsewhere. so enlivened by a moment in politics since obama's original convention speech. so that is the level of enthusiasm that we're seeing in the entertainment industry. kate, comparing it to the obama years, which of course were huge celebrity friendly years.
6:52 am
now, today, i hear that the harris campaign has organized a briefing with the entertainment industry celebrities will be on that zoom they want to talk to them about how they can support, because phones have been ringing off the hook with the campaign. now, lastly, what i will tell you, it's very early for the convention, but i do here that when it comes to the dnc, that there are pop stars who are interested in performing already a lot of needs your worked out in a very short amount of time now, for that convention. >> thank you so much, elizabeth sara. >> all right. new info shows some gen z democrats are also energized. now that biden has left the race, a cbs yougov poll found 42% of 18 to 29 year-olds say they're more excited to go to the polls now, let's talk about this with the nora gets hosho the ceo of do something young activists and service group all right. within hours of announcing, we saw harris all over social media,
6:53 am
not from something that she necessarily did, but it was the brat memes that were suddenly the everywhere you can avoid them. explain how this caught on with gen z voters so quickly good morning and thanks for having me sara, i think it's such an exciting time, right? >> do something as the hub for young people and their activism and service. and what we can say is that we've seen a stark difference in gen z voters right before earlier this year. what we heard them say is only about 21% of them were excited about participating in this election. and of course, our work is to get gen-z to turn out to vote. and what we're seeing now is that young people are excited as you just mentioned, that you go coal, we're seeing the same thing with our members gen z voters are ready to come out there, ready to vote, and they're energized about what's at stake in this election in new and exciting ways. and the numbers are in their favor, right? so when you think about gen z and millennial voters, they make up about 49% of the electorate this year. if they all register and turnout to vote, there's 40, almost 41 million new
6:54 am
members of gen z we are eligible. and as you noted, they are focused on social media. that's where they're getting their news from there, really thinking about memes and how they can engage of cool, easy breeze, but also getting things done is the epitome of what's gonna be at stake from now until the election day there's always a lot of talk in every election about young voters and they don't tend to come out like the older voters. >> what do you think we'll get them there? how many of them can cast their ballots? now it's i mean, that's the crux of the matter and i often talk about the importance of gen z and millennials for that matter are going to play in this election cycle like i mentioned, there are 41 million new eligible gen z voters, just 8.3 this year alone. and if they turn out at the rates that they did in 2020, the last presidential election, they're going to make up about 37% of the electorate. that's nothing to sneeze at, especially when you think about the fact that they are, they think about
6:55 am
issues intersectional they care passionately about climate and sustainability, about health care and reproductive justice. in particular, they care about mental health access. they care about educational equity and why there's full leaders are banning books and why they're taken away access to information. and this is a generation that cares passionately about their safety and well-being and the pervasive threat of gun violence in our community and so what i'd say is in this election, what it's going to come down to, what it's going to motivate people to turn out to vote is making sure that the candidates are talking authentically, whether that's on social media or in-person about the issues that matter most to gen z voters just quickly here what are some mistakes that can be made by campaigns when trying to use social media to lure new voters listen gen z is amazing in that they can see through the nonsense, right? so they know when you're putting online inauthentic means when you're not speaking in your first person self. and so my advice to all the candidates campaign
6:56 am
in the modern era authentically meet gen z where they are and millennials for that matter, to doj i'll do things that actually aren't what you do in a normal day-to-day life, right? what i want to tell you is make sure that you're showing up as you're chewing authentic self, but also makes sure you're meeting the people where they are, right, because that's what they want. they don't want stay on memes. they don't want you pretending, you know, about the cool trends. they actually want to know that you are understanding the current trend that you're talking to them in a language that makes sense. that's right. so no pop culture incorporated into what you're going. but in the lens of your voice. nora, get a child. thank you so much. i appreciate it yeah, i'm not cool. so i'm i'm going to try. >> it always works being cool, dad, hey, right on grow all right. >> thank you all for joining us rose this has been cnn news central cnn newsroom with jim acosta kids, love summer break,
