called stage true so all of these were people who were writing at the sametime i was for before . where you want to read your own life as a historian or scholar to understand more than your memories and one of the things my editor said to me is on memoir is just i remember but you want to do something different. here's how it fits in with all of this deep research, other people's memories, captives, captors, all the resources i drew upon to tell only my story but tell it in the truest possible way. >> i don't think we can do better than that. it is for sale by the door. holidays are coming. marthais here to sign for you . thank you for coming.

sister is playing in the woods and she gets cut off a poisonous plant and she knows he's on the top of a mountain and he doesn't have any time and he's got to act so he's got to get past the obstacles and rely on all the things his father was teaching him about a boy growing into a man . he goes through all these different things getting his current job and he's able to get up there to get power and get back down there to save his sister before she dies. it's a wonderful story about taking control of your life in situations you thought you would never be in. the whole idea is i know we've got this whole thing about emasculating men and we've been doing it for d decades but no more than we have to next five years, this book is about celebrating masculinity.
5:44 pm
there's nothing wrong with a boy being a boy and a girl being a girl . >> is that why you wrote the book about the so-called the emasculating of men? >> it's crazy, i haven't seen marty, i know it's $1 billion or more everybody that talks says they don't mean man, they make e men look like they are wimps and yet you see the movies now where the woman has to come in and save the day. indiana jones comes to mind. they have this woman be the day action hero so it's playing out over and over again. as a kid i remember these sitcoms and i was the end of all the jokes. kids are teenagers and they pick on dad and make dad look horrible and this is what kids are growing up with that the father is not that
5:45 pm
important to the family which is sad so to me you eliminate the patriarch, the bible teaches you to honor your father but sometimes it's the opposite way around. television and movies have been doing it for a long time and we've got to get to a place where enough is enough. let kids be kids and let them decide what they want tobe when they become adults . >> you brought brought adult titles through faith, how is it different writing a children's book ? >> i had a lot of help on this one. people go to brave books.com and it is amazing what they are able to get out there. people can go and join t them right now at brave books and sign up for the i love freedom book club and get a book every month.
5:46 pm
they cater to the four-year-old to 12-year-old crowd and there are books that are great for kids of all ages . they came to me because they hear me speak a lot and we need the lions to wake up and get out there and i think that's one way of saying something about masculinity i talking about mayan hood. >> kevin sorbo, have times changed since you were hercules in the 1990s as far as society and how we treat men and women ? >> i think it was a big pivotal decade with war, the feminist movement and civil rights, the heavy thing but the explosion of rock 'n roll music which is good and bad and all those things but i think it's gotten worse with a lot of hpolitical leadership
5:47 pm
the last 15 or 20 years and you see achange in this country . there's so much hate and divisiveness and people want to attack people all the time and i don't harbor that kind of anger politically or that are atheists or agnostics, maybe i don't wear that on my sleeve but i do a lot of faith movies so i see the attack on that all the time that every time you've got a pastor in a movie they are portrayed as the goofballs and idiots . i find you plenty of evil on both sides of the political aisle i. >> kevin sorbo, you mention brave books, they are also kirk cameron's publisher. >> i am reading in an elementary school on thursday can be interesting wwhat's happened when i think a lot of the liberal preachers will
5:48 pm
be glaring atme . i don't know why it's such a big deal but i know kirk, we were neighbors for many years and the attacks i thought were very strange. you're okay with drag queens reading in public but not kirk cameron. where is this country going, it doesn't make sense. >> speaking of which, should drag queens readinghours be banned from public libraries ? >> parents should have a right to make that decision .i don't understand it and i don't know why it's sebecoming a thing drag queens reading in libraries but i don't tell people how they should live their life. i don't know why people in the media are telling me how i am supposed to live my life, i've worked around gay

people all my life. i treat everybody the same. let's make a movie together, we're in the same industry. i don't harbor that sort of anger. they want to bring their kids to that. >> what do you think about banning books from public libraries ? >> 'i don't want to ban books but i do want to ban these books that you're reading to a third grader. let kids grow up. you don't have to teach them how to have sex as a nine-year-old. let kids find out the old fashion way, hopefully through their parents doing the birds and the bees. but let kids grow up and discover way life through their friends. hopefully you have strong

parents that are leading them on growth that's not going to be detrimental but let them decide when they get older. >> the new president of the american library association is a self described marxist lesbian and here is a quote in the washington times from her. she says every reader has a right to decide for themselves what they read and that includes children. >> i don't think children are deciding to look at a book that describes intercourse, they are getting that pushed on them by teachers and that's crazy. the whole marxist thing, are people truly aware what marxism is all about? all they've got to do is look at the history of countries going through that. it's gone through such a

change with what the governments have gone through their. how many people want to get away from that, it's the most prominent country and now it's one of the most poor and people are w flooding out of that country. i am hard-pressed to see where communism is a good thing . it's prized away self-esteem and motivation to the point where i've got to give up, e that's the biggest killer in america is apathy . our government eats away a little bit more day today. why can't i have a different opinion, you can have a different opinion, i am okay with that, freedom of speech that is what it's all about and most politicians don't want to pay attention anymore. >> kevin sorbo, you write about the fact that you were a victim ofcanceled culture . >> my agent over a decade ago
5:52 pm
called me and said because of what your posting on facebook and your christian views and i put a lot of sarcasm and truth to what i do and people still follow me on twitter. i i said i need more conspiracy theories. facebook took me down. so my agent said we can't work together anymore. if there is an attack when they have days in a movie some people get very upset, i don't get upset about that why do they get upset if i have a different point of h view? the hypocrisy in the world is so blatant and obvious and freedom of speech is a one-way street in hollywood. >> has that affected your acting career ?
5:53 pm
>> i continued to do things in hollywood, they're not going to ccall me for a network television just because they have a different point of view but i formed solo studios and i've got four movies in post production, a wonderful movie opening at the end of october called miracle meets texas, opens october 29. get your tickets right now so i am staying very busy. i've got over 50 movies, they're just not out of mainstream hollywood but i do the movies hollywood used to do, movies of faith and love and laughter. hollywood wants to push anger and violence and i am doing the opposite. >> in a way you live your values. you left california.
5:54 pm
>> we were looking to move for a long time. i love california, i live 40 miles north of la but it got to a point where you look at the crime, the attacks and traffic, i've shot over 80 movies and 70 in texas. my wife and i said we both have family in florida. if i'm on the 101 or the 405 i just cringe and i said i'm done with this, there is no reason for us to be here. we made the move five years ago and i haven't looked back yet. there's a reason why people are leaving new york and jersey, california, moving to nevada. >> kevin sorbo, you and your

wife sam have cowritten a book and she's writtenseveral as well . >> she's been very busy. i do a book called true strength. i had an aneurysm that opened up a series of collapses on my arm. i suffered four strokes and it took me three years to recover and i wrote a book talking about my journey . all of a sudden i had to learn how to walk and balance and i am fortunate. it was a book i didn't want to write. it's been a blessing, came out 10 years ago and i do about 15 speaker events a year with it now and i speak on a wide range of things so it's been an interesting door that was opened to me and we did a follow-up book together called true faith.
5:56 pm
whether it's religious faith or having a belief in your self to get past the obstacle without blaming god and pushing yourself to be a better person. this book was something i wasn't expecting. bethany hamilton wrote a book for brave books, she was a part of a book i did called soul surfer so this has been fun for me doing something i never thought i would be doing. >> you've got a third author in the family, youreldest son . >> the initials are kevin sorbo, brave and sorbo. he's preparing for that next month. >> what's the process of having three fathers in one family?
5:57 pm
>> is kind of fun. he's writing a script so he's got the bug. i'm not surprised, my kids have been exposed to this sort of stuff. we were home school advocates and braden came up and said we want to be actors. braden finished his third or fourth movie. they are way ahead of me. i didn't get my big break until my early 30s with hercules. >> let's finish going back to "the test of lionhood". when you came up with the conceptwhat's the difference between writing for children and writing for adults ? >> i think a lot of it has a lot to do with the books i read to my kids.
5:58 pm
